On Friday Sept. 12 at about 2:30 I visited the shipping Place there was 5 person line. The young lady said to look me if your package was ready for mailing you could the machines two people took advantage. One customer had difficulty with machine she was immediately helpful and boom line is two gentleman ahead of me quickly was finished my turn I was trying to return a package to Amazon asked if I had a return label and asked if I had Amazon on my phone. Quick trip to car and returned with phone. After a few seconds my ineptitude she politely asked for the phone A few seconds later the package is ready for return and I have a receipt. I felt so wonderful that this process was expedited and the lady was so helpful to this very Senior customer read more

Just gave the store a call for an inquiry and politely asked if the store owner was in. Was immediately cut off with a rude response of "DO NOT waste peoples time- Bye!!!!!!!" Excuse me??? I then called back again because there is absolutely NO WAY I heard that correctly and once again reiterated that I'd like to speak with the store owner and was hung up on for a second time abruptly. I was born and raised in the town of Hyde Park and my family and I come to this center often and I am completely DUMBFOUNDED at how poorly a working customer is treated and can only imagine how other people are treated. Not sure exactly who I was talking to at the front desk but whoever has a Friday 1pm shift at this location, I'd rethink going here unless you want an awful customer experience!!!!!! Tried to drop off a pre-paid FED-EX box but the label would not scan. I was told the label was bad. I dropped it off at Walgreens 30 min later and it scanned successfully. I thought as a good deed I called Shipping Place to let them know maybe their equipment had a problem and maybe look out for other bad scans. DO NOT SHIP with "The Shipping Place"- they charge more than twice UPS or FedEx shipping rates - for the same service. I needed to ship a box. I entered the dimensions, weight, and destination on FedEx.com, and it quoted a cost of $23.18 to ship it. The site listed "The Shipping Place" as the nearest dropoff location. Perfect. I dropped off the package and... was charged $53.80! I said that there must be some mistake, as the website had quoted shipping at half that. The staff said that I must not have entered the dimensions correctly ont he web. So I went home and double-checked: identical weight and dimensions... $23 to ship. I was forced to pay $53 The Shipping Place, for idential FedEx Ground Home Delivery. Thinking there must have been a mistake, I returned with a printout of the shipping quote. The same staffer proceeded to yell at me, saying that they "were a small business and had to make their margins someplace." WHAT?!?! An EXTRA $30 to ship a $20 package?!?! (They didn't pack it, tape it, or anything, it was 100% ready to go. The Shipping Place simply charges double the FedEx or UPS rates simply for the two seconds it takes you to drop a package off there.) Folks, there's an official UPS store up in Rhinebeck. Drive the extra few miles and cut your shipping costs in half. read more

worst owner ship and employees !!! took advantage of a young girls money. times are hard !! so when shipping is $80 and she said that was to much and nevermind, the employee made her ship it anyways because he packaged it!! he should have given her the option to just pay for the supplies / materials he used. complete disgusted with how money hungry they are. we're in hyde park - the poverty level is high and we are all struggling. so to make someone spend $80 that they don't have is horrible in my opinion. everyone go to the post office - its right down the road and cheaper and reputable. much better then these dirt bags. read more

Really disappointing customer service. The young man who works Saturday needs a lesson on customer service. Would not pack or ship my FEDEX and I asked why does the FedEx website say your a shipping center and he replied "don't believe everything you read on the internet " and "we are drop off only". I went there today to do an Amazon return. I'd been to a couple of department stores (don't waste your time with these contact point places) where they claim to do them, but after I stood in their lines, I was told in both places that they couldn't use the return code from Amazon. I went to the shipping place and the man there (Ted) showed me how to go into my Amazon orders and get a different return code. the ups store in kingman, Arizona JUST charged me 325 dollars (!!!) to ship a bike from kingman, AZ.,...to hyde park, NY. ---so I guess 190 at THIS place is almost "half price". good lord!!! after being stung for shipping bikes repeatedly in my lifetime, I finally discovered that AMTRAK will let you bring your bike when you travel!! ----so save yourself 2,3,even 4 hundred dollars by taking Amtrak and bringing your bicycle with you. read more

Went in on Saturday to send a small envelope out via FedEx and was shocked at the price they were going to charge me. Over $80 for an 8x 10 envelope and it was a 4 day expected delivery. Upon questioning the price - the younger guy who wasn't even helping me yells across the room - obviously we can't help you so you should take your things and go elsewhere. I pick up my phone to make a call to see my options and he than yells again you cant make phones calls in here - take it out side. Bosses rule ! I usually get my packages shipped here when I'm out of town. Two men were working tonight, the younger mans was super polite whereas the older gentleman was quite rude. Made me feel kind of uncomfortable without actually listening to what I had to say. He made sure to say "not to be mean" however, it was just a very unprofessional way to speak to someone. UPDATE: Since posting my original review on 03/31/2016, I've received two other messages on Yelp from others who have had their valuable items stolen and then their boxes were received empty or partially empty. If this has happened to you please go file a police report. I have filed one and so have the other two people. Original: Received a package out of here. When it was dropped off it weighed 2lbs. When it left this store (according to the UPS tracking info) it weighed 1.6lbs. Needless to say, my valuable item was stolen. And yes, we insured the package and was charged for the insurance. Just had a horrible experience inside of this location. The associate Joey was looking for my package when a "regular" customer came in and asked if their was anything there for him. Joey stopped looking for my package and went over grabbed this gentleman's package and then helped ring him out all while I was just standing there! Needed to have some of my professional equipment packed up for repair. The shipping place double-boxed-packed it up so that it will ship nicely out to California. I have a lot of peace of mind that they did a great job - much better than what I had tried to do. What a ripoff! And the service was terrible! I was next in line to ship two packages and Return a large box and a small roll of bubble wrap. I was told to step aside while the obnoxious clerk waited on the next three customers behind me who he addressed by name. I was told that he needed to reduce the line. I was made to wait at least ten minutes while he processed several packages. When it finally became "my turn ", the clerk initially refused to give me my money back on the large box,$27.00, and the very small roll of bubble wrap, $6.95. Both were unused! No good reason was given. I adamantly insisted that he accept the returns and after a heated conversation he relented. Buy your boxes at U-Haul, they're way less expensive and ship from somewhere else like the UPS STORE, it's also cheaper. read more

In August I came into this place with a FedEx package that I had packaged a textbook in. Packaged it myself, with the book renter's prepaid label on. Shipped from this place with no problems. A week goes by and the book renter company contacted me and said the textbook they received was not the textbook I had rented. They sent me pictures of everything, and the textbook they received was for a course I have never took, also the textbook they received was not even in their inventory, and they don't want it. Went over to the shipping place to see if someone could have opened my package, and placed a different textbook inside (as this place does buy textbooks for cash). The owner denied everything as expected, and became irate when I mentioned previous Yelp reviews saying items shipped were removed. I am not suggesting anything like that took place in my case, but the fact is I packaged a textbook myself, book renter received a totally different book. read more

I've been using this place for about ten years without any issues. Very friendly service. I like that they give me the prices of the various choices that are available for my packages. I'm given a tracking receipt, but if I lose it, they have it in their system and can reference it for me. For faster service and convenience, if I've sent a package to place before, it pops up and I don't need to go through the whole time consuming process of entering it. I've heard the owner handle disputes on the phone with patience even when it's clear the the individual complaining isn't willing to listen to reason. As an intermediary, this company does it's utmost best to make sure that are providing excellent service. I will happily continue to use them. read more

I brought a box to be dropped off (postage paid) and shipped UPS at The Shipping Place - I needed one small piece of tape to close box. Owner would not tape unless I made a donation to St. Judes or bought a roll of tape. Offered to buy something else -- but it was either or. When I declined, he handed me the box back and told me to find another shipping place. It was my intention to ship a package -- not be coerced into making a purchase or a donation. I would not use any of his services in the future -- and know that offering tape to close a package is the cost of doing business in this type of establishment FYI: I bought a roll of tape so that my package could be shipped. read more

Dropped off two packages couple days apart at this location and like other yelpers both of my packages arrived at their destination empty.

As with a few of the other reviews, I shipped out several textbooks for trade ins with Amazon. The girl who took the packages the first time I was in there complained that they don't make any money on prepaid packages for UPS. I dropped off a few more and the owner also complained about UPS and Amazon and went on and on about how he doesn't make any money. Amazon just contacted me to tell me my packages were empty... they were textbooks, and surprise, surprise, they buy textbooks at The Shipping Place.... so I guess they made a bundle off of me. Never again. And I'm filing a police report as well. read more

I went here looking to send a package to a foreign country and the guy behind the counter was super helpful and honest with me. He was able to answer all my questions and he was super nice and friendly on top of that. Plus, my package made it to a place off the map in the middle of no-wheres without any mishaps, so The Shipping Place can definitely be trusted. I recommend it. read more
