Long lines on Saturday mornings! Also received a note my package was to be picked up at the Hercules Post Office but when I tried to retrieve my package, it was not at the Hercules location. A supervisor was suppose to call me back to confirm the whereabouts of my package but didn't get a call back. I made the assumption perhaps my package ended up at the Rodeo Post Office which it did and ended up getting hung up on the first time I called the Rodeo location. read more

I forgot to write the zipcode on my envelope and I asked the person behind the counter if she could look it up. She said no, but handed me a 2004 zipcode book to look through. Fair enough. Not only was the zipcode not in the book, but when I asked for an updated book, she said she didn't have one. Um, what? Don't we go to the post office for this kind of information? I sympathize that she was the only associate present at the post office available to help the long line of customers, but seriously, better customer service would have been nice. read more

I am not sure what is it about post office service that makes it so bad because every single one that I have gone to before has terrible service. I am not sure if the people hate their job or what but they aren't happy to be there at all. The service at this particular office is hit or miss, either it will be really slow or really quick depending I guess. The parking issue is better than other post offices that I have been too. This post office is on the smaller side but it is the right size to do the job. Customer service is not friendly and some have major attitudes, which them makes the customers miserable and in a bad mood. I have yet to find a post office with decent customer service, however, I don't think that they exist. read more

I only came into the post office to quickly mail an envelope, but I had a very good experience. From reading other reviews, I was expecting to be slighted in some way or to be treated rudely by Soo, one of the employees who works there. But she was very cheerful and nice with everyone she served, including with me. And she was nice when I mistakenly wrote the mailing address and return address on the wrong places on the envelope. I would go back to mail more things. read more

I'm glad the doors are open all day. But it always seems dirty when you walk in to this post office compared to the one in pinole. I rarely see employees here when operations are open and it almost feels like an abandoned building. read more

Having to deal with this Post Office and USPS in general is a great example of why a government agency shouldn't run anything. Waiting all day for a signature required package redelivered. This office refuses to answer their phone. The main USPS phone # has absolutely no idea what's going on in its branches or where my package is. I feel confinded to my house for a package that will likely not arrive because the mail today came and went and no knock on the door for me to sign for this package. When the USPS hotline tried to connect me with someone who actually answers the phone, they directed me to Rodeo PO instead of Hercules. Skip this and use FedEx or UPS instead. read more

This office is the worst I've seen. Not only do they not have a phone to contact them by, but they changed their hours of operation from closing at 6pm to 5pm. They changed it by just crossing out the 6pm with a sharpie and writing 5pm. I missed my package due to these people. read more

The last time I went to the Hercules branch was right after my sister had lost her cancer battle. I had to pick up certified mail that was addressed to my deceased sister. I was a mess and Soo could see that I was struggling just to explain why I was there. Soo was very patient with me. read more

I went in the post office another person was in line went up to the counter and the postal clerk she looked up at me and said I am closed after him come back at 2 pm I'm going to lunch there was no one else there except the two of us that was extremely rude. read more

My mailman delivers packages and mail to the wrong address often. Sometimes i get other peoples stuff and other times the wrong people get mine. Our locked mailbox which is shared by a dozen other neighbors gets left open and unlocked for thiefs to steal mail. Who hired this dude? Super inconvenient and super unsecure read more

Long lines, slow service, and rude staff are three words to sum up the experiences I've had at this branch. My most recent and LAST experience here was yesterday with the clerk named SOO; very rude. I have lived in Hercules for 18 years and I've been going to this post office weekly for the past three years due to my online business. I prepay for all of my postage online to avoid the long line (they have 2 registers, but only 1 is open every time I go here). By using the prepayment method I have not experienced any problems, until yesterday. As I'm approaching the branch to drop off a last minute order, I see a line of people reaching to the entrance door. I'm thinking to myself, "Haha, good thing I don't have to wait in this a** line!" I place my package at the counter and the clerk ignores me (nothing new). As I turn to walk away I hear "WAIT!" I turn around to see what she wants and she doesn't say a word to me. She grabs my package off the counter, puts it on the scale, and then SLAMS the package down in my face (I could feel the wind) and she yells, "YOU NEED TO GET IN LINE, YOU NEED MORE POSTAGE!" I ask, "How much more is it?" She yells with an attutuded, " I DON'T KNOW! YOU NEED TO GET IN LINE! YOU JUST CUT ALL OF THESE PEOPLE!" (What? How did I just cut if you're the one who called me back?) I say to her, "So tell me how much I paid for my package since you know off top I didn't pay enough?" (Being that there is no postage price displayed on my package, I knew that she could not answer.) She yells, "I DON'T KNOW! BUT YOU NEED MORE POSTAGE, YOU PUT 3.8LBS AND ITS REALLY 4LBS!" At that point I was so angry that I grabbed my package and walked out. I went home and looked up the pricing for my package weighing 4lbs instead on 3.8lbs and it was the SAME PRICE! So I left the original label on the package and took it to the post office in Rodeo where I had no problems. Another incident I've had at this branch was a couple of months ago when I had to drop off a package for my mother which wasn't prepaid for. The branch change their hours so that they are closed from 1pm-2pm for lunch during weekdays, which I was not aware of. I arrived at the post office at 1:50pm and there was already a line of 5 or 6 people inside waiting for the counter door to open. I figured I could wait 10 minutes since I'm already here, so I stood in line. 2:00 comes around and nobody opens.....2:05...still no one.....at 2:10 impatient customers start to pound on the counter door yelling, "It's 2:10! Come on, lunch is over!" (Didn't work). At 2:15 a young lady walks onto the floor from a door leading to the back, smiling like nothing is wrong and says, "We're open!" -_- Great, thanks....I've only been waiting 25 minutes. Now I have to wait another 20 minutes before I'm even helped, NOT HAPPY. Overall, I will not be coming back to the Hercules branch. I'm going to try the UPS store 2 doors down that everyone is talking about. read more

Unbelievably horrible service. I've been to multiple post offices all over the Bay Area and this by far is the worst one in my books. Like many other reviewers mentioned, the Caucasian lady with the shorter hair is extremely rude. I was told that I am not allowed to alter boxes provided by the post office. I told her I never had the issue at other places before, and she told me I should take my package to other places. She said that there's a reason why they offer other sized boxes for shipping, but she couldn't even provide me with one to fit my package! After telling her I would take it elsewhere to ship, she still brought up the issue as I was paying to ship another package and tried to further argue with me even though the problem was settled by me telling her I'd go elsewhere. These negative reviews are so surreal to me because I go to the Hercules branch because of Soo plus the parking is better than Pinole. Being brief,professional and perfunctory is not being rude. I see it as being efficient and conserving energy considering how many times she has to say and do the same thing over and over in addition to people come thru her line thinking they+their situation are very,very special and they demand special treatment from a government office. I see the job of a postal worker as getting the job done accurately and keeping the line moving, not giving folks a pleasant experience altho once Soo went way out of her way for me,saving me lots of time and frustration. I am always leery of going to this particular Post Office because of the lady that works at the cashier. I always pray and hope that the particular lady does not work that day and almost all the time, the prayer never gets answered. First of all, the lady has an attitude problem and can be really testy at times if you just have question or a request that she does not understand. I am posting this review on behalf of my mom. She had gone to the post office to purchase stamps one day and arrived a little before 5:00pm. There was a lady at the window in front of her so my mother waited in line. When she finally got to the window it was 5:00. She told the lady she just needed to buy stamps, the lady looked at her watch and told my mom "its 5:00, you have to come back tomorrow." my mother plead again, just needing a stamp. The lady at the window refused to sell her any. would that have really taken that much time? so unbelievable. terrible customer service. how dare you even consider leaving at 5:02 instead of 5:00, god forbid. I commute to work in San Francisco, so, when I receive a notice to pick up a parcel at this post office, you'd think it'd be easy to pick up my package on my day-off, right? NOT! There always seems to be just one clerk at the front with a party going on in the back. With a line of 5 people, I asked if another clerk could be called in to help. What a sneer I got, and the ultimate stare-down! Needless to say, the clerk wasn't friendly and I felt I was bothering her. Customer service is non-existent here. Beyond incompetent. This post office has staff that deliberately mess with people. In talking to others in Hercules, seems to be the rule, not the exception, especially if you don't look like a son Obama never had. Postmaster is disrespectful and couldn't care less about customers. I have been holding off for a few years to write a review on the Hercules Post Office, but today was the last straw. I have had multiple packages lost immediately after dropping them off at this location, they have been unable to locate many of these for up to 3-4 weeks. Now, I have experienced one of the absolute rudest postal workers I have ever come across-Soo! She is incredibly disrespectful, degrading, belittling, and unfriendly. This has clearly been noted as an issue with other customers and nothing seems to be done. Avoid Soo and this post office at all costs. The Pinole post office is 5 minutes down the road and you will have a much better experience here. read more

I'd like to amend my previous review of this PO to say that things have improved. The rude lady is not so rude anymore. In fact I've caught her smiling a few times and even made her laugh once. And she's greeting people pleasantly now. Not to say that she's lost her edge, she knows her stuff and will clearly state it with no frills. As to the station's service, I think the scanning has gotten a little better. After more experience I realized that the Hercules PO is a sub-station as opposed to a Post Office, so maybe that has something to do with scanned info lagging in transmission to the Track & Confirm USPS online platform. Sometimes the first scan doesn't show up online until the package gets to the "hub". That said, I still think it's hit or miss for packages to be scanned at ALL Post Offices in my area, so I don't want to just pick on Hercules. It's a little annoying to me that this PO closes at lunch sometimes and they don't open till 2pm which is supposed to be a pick up. But I found out that all the packages from this sub-station go to the Rodeo PO a few miles away and their pick up is at 3pm anyway. So, if you are an Ebay seller I recommend telling customers that their package might not show up in the system till it reaches the hub, or even later. I've even had occasions when the tracking doesn't show up until the box is delivered, at which point all the scanning points show up at once! Soooooo, all this is my way of saying that while this PO still has a few issues they've improved their attitude and that my original scanning criticism may not have been deserved in light of USPS' overall scanning data transmission spottiness. It seems there's no real way to tell if it's lack of employee scanning packages (because they think the next guy will do it,) or if it's a backend data transmission issue - maybe a combo? On another subject, I have noticed a real improvement with speed of delivery this year over last year. I think the USPS actually hiring 30,000 employees for the Xmas rush this year may have helped, but I also think the people at my PO have improved their efficiency as well. It seems they know what they are doing and are helpful in communicating the necessary information even if it means having to point out that delivery times are NOT guaranteed except for the Priority Express items (Note: rude-lady has IMPROVED her tone a LOT.) I am learning to read the fine print, it's all there if you look. But when I compared last year's tracking info to this year's data I noticed that my regular Priority Mail packages got all the way across the country very FAST and reliably. I even had a few customers who were amazed, like the used Xbox I sent on 12/22 which made it to the Midwest (intact) by 12/24 even though it was a 3 day Priority area. I did have a ceramic cup break, despite my scrupulous packing, but the online claim submission was relatively painless AND I've already received a check from USPS! As an aside, you get tracking and $50 insurance for free when you use Priority Mail. In summation, the Hercules PO has improved in a few ways and the USPS had faster delivery overall this year, I was a lot happier with my Christmas shipping experience this year. read more

I was going to send in a package to a customers from eBay. I printed out the postage at home and decided to drop it off at this post office. The clerk, and old white lady with short blond hair; her name tag read SOO. Is by far rudest person. As I drop off the package and walk out, all I hear is her loud obnoxious voice scream to come back. When I approached the counter she begin to question me what is in the package. I tell her it's just a shirt, and she begins ranting on how I'm using the wrong postage label and what I was doing is illegal, and starts telling be all the stuff that will happen. How the hell was I supposed to know it was the wrong postage, since that's the one ebay recommend me to use. She wouldn't refund the already postage that I paid for and wanted me to pay another one. I had to get the item to the customer so of course my stupid self paid for the other postage. What I've should have done was walk a few feet next door and gone to UPS. Well now I know, thanks to SOO or whatever the bitter old lady's name is, I will be taking my business to UPS. read more
