This branch has become progressively worse over the years. I avoid going there as much as possible, and would rather drive to Orinda USPS. The problem is that our mail service is from the El Sobrante P.O., and our regular mail man, who was AMAZING, is no longer around, it seems. They have not settled on a regular replacement and the service has been inconsistent at best. I can't even rely on them to fulfill a package pick-up request on time. This never used to be an issue. HORRIBLE SERVICE. They need to overhaul this entire branch. We are so done with this crappy service. read more

Staff is rude, particularly one of the manager who went out of her way to try to embarrass me in front of a line full of people. After informing her my dog was a support dog, she asked to see my documents which I know isn't okay, but I guess because the lady behind me was informing me of what I already knew the simple minded manager proceeded to try to prove me wrong then when I provided what she didn't expect for me to have, she told me she could not provide the service I needed. This Post Office is supposed to be open at 8:30 am. It's 8:50 and not a warm body in sight except those waiting in line for an employee to show up and open the doors. This branch is one of the worst. Twice - they ran out of stamps. Go figure... Rating would be improved if posted hours were honored and you were stocked with stamps. read more

I usually go to the USPS at El Sobrante. They have always been very nice to deal with and have gone out of their way to be helpful. Today was the worst service in the 15 years I've been going there. The clerk today was extremely rude. I went to mail an item with tracking attached. I filled out the form and removed the item from the envelope to make it easier to attach the shipping label. She complained about the item not being in the envelope and how she has to do everything for the customers. So she puts the item in the envelope and slops tape and labels on. Everything is a wrinkled mess. The tape doesn't lay flat. It's all bunched up. I start to say something. She says, "Don't talk". Puts her fingers up to her lips, with the "zip it" sign. I put the money down on the counter, and she complains again, "People can't just hand you the money. They make you take it off the counter". Complaining through the whole process. She should not be in a customer service position. read more

Jackie is the rudest postal employee I ever met. I was putting my package on the counter and she yelled at me saying Do not reach over my counter! How am I supposed to give you the package if I can't reach up to place it in front of you?! This isn't the first time she's yelled at me. This is the third time in a week and I see her yelling at customers in front of me. Other reviews mention her bad attitude as well. I've been a customer of this post office for over 30 years and have NEVER had s problem with the staff or deliveries. It's hard to believe that people have issues here. The staff have always been polite and helpful. They have helped with packages, mail, return receipts efficiently. Kudos to them! read more

Ive been coming to this post office almost every other week. And seeing most of the worker here. And by far The worst customer service i get is from this lady name Jackie. Not only that she can not maintain her attitude and communication, she got upset so easy and brush you off. With such a bad manner of body language and attitude. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - 83/100. It's a small post office. No more than 3 counter clerks at one time. Boy, they are pretty friendly AND patient! There were only 2 clerks available the morning I came through. (I was next.) Both of them had customers requiring far more complicated transactions than just mailing packages. It took a while and the line behind me built up, but they both finished with customers walking out happy. Despite that, the one I dealt with was more than happy to help with whatever it is I needed done - it's almost like the complicated transaction she just handled before dealing with me never happened. Service with a smile is always good. So glad I didn't have to deal with that line lots of fellow Yelpers mention here. Plenty of parking. I'm a fan. read more

I tried giving them a chance to redeem themselves but no, all employees here are just rude for no reason, 1st interaction they threw my package Infront of me to the back even though the item was fragile and clearly marked, 2nd interaction a different lady was just being rude towards everybody not just me, if you hate your job just quit then. The most recent one was i got there as they were closing, i was in no need of any service i just needed to drop off my packages on the counter and thats it and they Didnt let me in even though i would have been in there for no more than 5 seconds MAX since the packages were all pre paid. Horrible service. I wanted to talk to the carrier about a package scanned delivered but was not delivered. She said didn't know who the carrier was, which is BS, and would only ring the bell for the supervisor, who never comes to the front. I asked her to go in the back and get the supervisor but she said she was with a line of customers. I am a customer, I waited in line for 20 minutes for nothing. read more

Obviously in competition with the DMV as to who can move slower. Constant rotation in staff and half of those need help with basic math, so you end up with 3 postal workers in front and only 1 customer getting helped at a time. Absolutely infuriating if you have anything else to accomplish in the next 45 minutes. read more

I rarely have the need to mail anything. I feel bad because I try and support the USPS. I had an interaction with Jackie who was curt, rude, and condescending. This is my local post office and today I needed to send out a package to family with an international address I was unsure of. I asked for help from the person working with the customs form and to make sure the address was correct. She was able to assist me without any problems. While I was filling out my paperwork to send the package a big line of people cane in and were all out by the time I was done to go back to the counter and pay. Completely done in 15 minutes. What is nice about this post office is the drive-thru mail drop. Unlike the other local offices where you have to get out of the car or stretch the width of the car to drop mail into the box, here they are on the drivers side on one way drive way. Went in to mail an envelope, had my Service Dog with me and after standing in line for 15min was told that "pets" where not allowed. I then said, she's my service dog, and was then told that service dogs aren't allowed. My dog is clearly marked and is tasked trained. The clerk pointed to a sign on the wall which clearly states service dogs are the only dogs allowed and he still tried to tell me that my service dog wasn't allowed. Unfortunately the only number available to this office is the 800 # for the USPS. This is unacceptable and in complete violation of the ADA. So because I have a service dog I'm not able to conduct business and use my local post office? It's the same as telling someone with an oxygen tank that they're not allowed to have their medical equipment with them. read more

60 days that I have waited for my legal work permit to arrive, after requesting a Congressman to expedite it, asking my new job HR to give me more time (or I will lose the new job) and other much more strenuous efforts to finally receive the notice from US Immigration office that my work permit is on its way, via 2-day USPS Priority service, to get to my mailbox. As the wonderful USPS text/email tracking updates that lead me each step of the way from departing to arriving at my local (El Sobrante) post office, the journey of my card is now seen every 1 hour as a new update posted. Now it is "out to deliver". I decided to stay put waiting right by the door for this memorable moment of welcoming my legal Work Permit to arrive. Too much is riding on this small care... Two hours later a new update, "Notice Left, No Secure Location Available". Wait, how come? I have not seen a soul approaching my door, and definitely no sign of any notice was left anywhere out there...What happened? I checked online tracking and it says that I have to go to the post office "indicated in the notice" to pick up the mail, but there is no notice left. I rushed to El Sobrante post office, waited in line for 30 minutes, and finally talked to a supervisor who did not have a clue nor could provide any useful information, except that more "investigation" needed to conduct. I inquired about the name of whoever was out there delivering Priority Mails or entered that last update that morning, he simply refused and said "No". I left my personal contact and asked him please find out where that important mail could be. He said for a peace of mind he would totally help me. Now the day has gone, 12 hours later I have not received any words from him. I tied to call many times but his "direct line" was never picked up nor went to a voice box. I am very upset. Unbelievable careless and injustice...where multiple hours of manpower could be totally wasted at the last step of a routine delivery. Now I may worry too much because the mail could still be in the bag, but when even the smallest lie is detected--no delivery was attempted nor notice was left, someone simply decided to wait for the recipient to show up at their office to pick up a Priority mail due to, I don't know, convenience because they assume no one will be at home on a Tuesday morning? No one seems to care about correcting this error. I got the facial impressions from another clerk working there that this "has happened too often and has to stop". I will visit the office first thing tomorrow. I hope they let me know who entered that false update and thought they could get away. read more

came here to ship out a bottle of perfume. perfume is a hazardous material so I waited in the extremely long line to talk to an associate. when it finally became my turn, the man I talked to was extremely rude. he didn't even listen to what I had to say and told me I couldn't ship my package. then another associate had to correct him and tell him I could ship it if it was only ground shipping. I told him I had a prepaid label, which was priority shipping. he told me I needed a NEW label with a NEW tracking # in order to ship it ground only. however I called before hand and was told they simply just had to write "ground only" "fragile" on the bag. the man then gave me a phone number to call and figure out what to do. he wouldn't even do anything to help. I wouldn't recommend this post office if you need assistance for how to ship a special package. they don't know anything even thought it's their job, and they'll act like smartasses. read more

Waited almost 45 minutes just to pick up a package for them to tell me its not processed yet but showed them the label saying ready for pick up that was in my box. Damaged and opened packages. I would stay away from this Post office. All the workers are like zombies and most barely speak english. I know that our postal system is in dire straits and facing some terrible cuts in the near future, but the experience I just had at this location did not do anything to increase my sympathy for them. I was attempting to mail a few New Year's greeting cards and send one gift. I chose to ship the gift using one of the flat rate boxes but there were no pens available on the counters. I figured "No problem, I'll just ask up at the counter for a pen once I reach the head of the line." After standing in line for about 10 minutes, I finally got to the counter and asked for a pen. The gentleman behind the desk (I believe his name is Kiva Sidhu) glared at me and told me that I should have prepared the box before I reached him. I responded that there were no pens and he said "You should have brought one" and he tried to get me to leave the counter. (Have the recent budget cuts included publicly available pens? If so, they may need to rethink that cut as it doesn't seem wise to add additional barriers to mailing items when the post office is already suffering from declining business. Even the post offices in third world countries I've visited make pens available.) In any case, I stood my ground and asked Kiva to take care of providing postage for the other greeting cards I was sending while I filled out the address. While I am busy quickly writing in the address, Kiva is putting the postage on my envelopes...but doesn't bother to ask me if I care if he puts Hanukah stamps on my cards. Mind you, it's 12/30 and Hanukah is over. Also, I'm sending out New Year's Cards. Also, you'd have to be pretty liberal to think that with my brown skin, I'm Jewish. When I see the Hanukah stamp on one of my cards, I ask Kiva why he put a Hanukah stamp on my envelope. He gets indignant and says that they don't break stamp books and so I have to take what he gives me. I tell him I understand that not breaking stamp books, but I would have appreciated him giving me the option to buy a book before he stuck the stamp on. "Fine," he says and charges me for a book of stamps. But the damage is already done. Yeah, in the end the greeting card will get there, but it's embarrassing for it to look like I took so little care in preparing the card. I should add that while I was writing the address, he paused to loudly tell the friendly Asian lady working the next counter (I think she's mentioned in Silvia's post) that she should cut the explanation she was providing to the customer's she was working with: "Don't explain to them. We don't need to provide them with an explanation. Look at the line." She responds that she is trying to help them because they are customers and he repeats, "We don't need to explain anything to them." I'll give him credit for wanting to promote efficiency, but the disregard for the feelings of his coworker and the customers she was working with gets an F-. I'm glad I didn't waste my time talking to the supervisor as the reviews here make it clear that would have been a dead end. However, I will be sending a complaint to the Postmaster General. I know there are a lot of hard working postal workers out there who do a good job, but people like Kiva need some serious training or else should not be providing the public face of the post office. read more

Major snaps to Ed behind the counter, with his friendliness and great customer service. I've shipped a ton of boxes overseas to APO boxes, and he never rolls his eyes at the amount of time he's going to have to spend with me. I'm always happy when I get him as my postal worker. MAJOR thumbs down to the manager/customer service rep--whoever!!--behind the counter this morning. The customer in front of me wanted to complain and get resolution for missing and "returned to sender" mail that should have come to her business. You know, little things like CHECKS so she can stay in business. I had spoken with her before the manager came to the front, so I got a bit of what she needed to talk about. She was calm but frustrated. And the person who spoke with her was a first class prick. Clearly came across as not caring at all about her situation, offering no suggestions for improving or resolving the situation, and in fact, his attitude escalated the situation into a very tense one. I wasn't even involved, and I left the post office pissed off! Mad enough to write this review. I know it's a government job. I know the post office can't be shut down or go out of business. I know the mail will be delivered well or poorly (or not at all) and the customer (that would be you and me) is virtually helpless to rectify any bad situation. I know a bad attitude and bad customer service, and this guy had it in spades. But I also know there is a way to say "sorry" without admiting to any blame, or when you don't give a sh*t about the situation, which this manager clearly implied. "I'm so sorry for the situation. I can see it's frustrating for you. I assure you I will look into it and we will try to address your issues. I can't fix what has already happened, but I will work with the staff here to try to improve in the future. Thank you for bringing this to my attention." Pick any three of those sentences, say them in any order you want, and the customer feels heard, cared about, and, fingers crossed, is out of your hair in a few minutes. How do you people even have jobs?! This post office is seriously the worst I have ever dealt with. They frequently misdeliver mail in our neighborhood. Mail dropped off before pickup time is often kept an extra day with no tracking update. They deliver packages during vacation hold. And the latest: I paid $60 to deliver a very important package overnight that must be refrigerated. Turns out they have not scanned the package after end of day, and my package will be sitting at the post office overnight. There is absolutely no consequences for being lazy and not doing their job here. Seek any other post office for your postal needs, literally any other in the world. read more

I figure all post offices are the same. I feel like the people that work here hate their jobs because it shows. Not really sure what's so bad working in a post office? Came in here to because I need to change my address from a move. I tried to change it online but they charge you close to $50 to change it (for security reasons). Don't see how anyone would pay that much to change where their mail goes. So I decides to go in. Wasn't really busy and there was 2 people at the counter & 2 peephole in front of me waiting to get helped. One lady at the counter had an issue mailing a package out and getting the write price on it - she was super snobby which was annoying. The other lady was trying to pick up a package which was filled with birds! She was acting like a total b**** to the lady that was helping her - it's like calm down - your birds aren't that important. When I finally got my turn to help , I told the lady what I was here for and she just gave me a form to fill out and to drop it in the mailbox when I was done. Are you kidding me?! I was in line for oh I don't know 40 minutes and I have to fill out paper work? Why don't you guys just have those forms out so people can just grab them , fill them out and be on their merry way. So stupid! Only good thing about this place is that is was nice and modern looking. It also had plenty of parking and a drive thru mail drop which is always nice with you have kiddos in the car with you. read more

Ed is the best guy working there - friendly, fast, efficient and always knows the best way to ship things. Everyone else there is grumpy and the new people they have are god awful! This is like the slowest Post Office in the area. It is faster for me to drive to Pinole where I'll get in and out in 5 minutes, than it is to go to this Post Office which is 5 minutes from my house. Pinole always has two or three people working the counter and no line. El Sob has a long line and one person working the counter. Deceiving since it's a big huge building with a large parking lot. read more

Probably here on an off day, but both postal workers were having difficulty with every single customer (language barrier probably played a role too), and the supervisor wasn't much help, either. Line was out the door, which I've come to understand is the norm at ANY post office, but the employees just weren't very efficient. I give the post office 3 stars, but personally give ED 5 stars. I usually don't write reviews on here, or anywhere for that fact but this OG right here keeps it real. He makes sure I am always taken care of as well as other customers and he knows how to keep things moving. Oze as well. I haven't had much experience with the others but these two are the most welcoming. Ed always goes the extra mile for me, teaches me how to properly tape my boxes without using too much tape and points out every time I do it wrong lol. This man is a contracted by trade but due to his many injuries and health issues he is at the post office and yet still continues to fight through all of that to keep smiles on his customers faces. If you want to not worry about a package being lost, do not drop off and leave a package at the counter here. Also, insure your packages. We dropped off, received a receipt and the priority package has been "in transit between locations" for 9 days. It's lost and no one can help. If you are looking for no lines, don't go to the Post Office. The El Sobrante PO is far better than options in the surrounding towns. The clerks are always happy to help. It does feel more like a small town PO. Dealing with any government agency will likely mean waiting in line, PO, DMV, etc.... Glad that when I get in front of the clerk, the experience is always good. If your only complaint is the lines, you may need to reconsider a negative review and have more realistic expectations from a government agency. Lines can get long but the people there are great. read more

i accidentally dropped off a UPS package here along with several other USPS packages. i went back & my package was gone. this was my mistake but the way i was treated over it & the lack of customer service & ZERO MANNERS of the staff is unbearable. i understand that rn many work forces are overworked & underpaid. i work in the restaurant industry & sometimes people arent so nice but that makes me even more dote on customers who ARE kind. i'm very patient & mild mannered & boy lemme tell you whomever answered the phone was a rude ass! lord have mercy FIX YALL ATTITUDE! idk what is going on at post offices but i think these people are upset behind the scenes. no help with my $100 package which was probably stolen by whomever supposedly picked it up. no answers just rude attitude. read more

This location is my preferred post office in the area. Usually an, "in & out" ordeal & the staff is always both professional and helpful. One employee by the name of Mercedes, was super helpful and answered my questions and concerns with skill and ease. She was a huge help since it was my first time utilizing a particular shipping method. Really seems to be a great employee and I appreciate the patience given. Awesome customer service. read more
