Every single time I've visited since I've myself received nothing but stellar service, the (current) staff here is exceptionally friendly helpful, cheerful and clearly passionate, really couldn't ask for more of a freaking post office. Absolute shit show. The clerks were so annoyed that people were in a line and wanting to mail packages. I arrived at 4:45 and was in line. Had not put address on two packages I was sending because I was purchasing the post office envelopes. Didn't want to do something wrong. The line took 15 mins and went I got to the front for my turn they said they had to lock the doors and kicked myself and two other customers out! I'd been waiting for 15 mins. Not my fault the line took them time. Wtf! They need to put out a sign stating no one can enter after 4:45 or something. I'm so frustrated. Waste of an hour of my life round trip. read more

I will never use this USPS office again and I hope the lack of sales eventually reflects on the Postmaster's rude attitude and way she conducts business. The Postmaster has to go. She should be transferred to an office where she can gain insight into how she takes for granted the great clientele. I have received 3 letters from the Postmaster saying I have violated the terms and conditions of media mail. Each time there is no explanation of the issue, only a general statement of a media mail violations. Of course, a bill has been attached for me to pay each time. The bill also has no explanation of the violation or which item. After the 1st notice, I proactively asked the Postmaster to inspect my media mail before sealing the envelopes and each time she refused. On 2 of those occasions, she later sent me a letter with more bills, and again, no explanation of the violation or the item at fault. read more

The post master who took over the Fairfax Post office several years ago appears to have serious boundary issues with customers. In addition to an inflated notion of her own importance and sense of agency over the customers' business, she is rage-infused, overbearing, officious and contemptibly rude. An inveterate attention whore, she appears to thrive on causing scenes, embarrassing customers quietly waiting for service, identifying problems that don't exist for which she demands actions that are entirely uncalled for. I started going to Fairfax, since the San Anselmo Post office has devolved into a violent criminal enterprise. Today I had the displeasure of arguing with a very rude employee about the priority mail flat rate tyvek envelope that was clearly priced as $6.70. I was told by this unpleasant employee that it was mislabeled and there was no such thing as a priority envelope. I'm in shock because I've used this envelope MANY TIMES before and always been charged the price that is shown. Also looked online, and yes there is a priority mail tyvek mail envelope!!! I am shocked by the level of awful customer service in this post office. The woman in here who identified herself as the postmaster is the worst postal office employee I have ever come across! She acts like a schoolmarm talking down to customers, and takes pleasure in enforcing rules and regulations. I sent in a complaint about her a couple of weeks ago and today got a call from somebody in the post office who sounded like a robot, telling me they have rules for international parcels that have to be enforced, etc. etc. I am not going to put up with this. I see that another reviewer has opened a case with Consumer Affairs about her, and I intend to contact them. I am a retired RN of 25years and cannot imagine talking to the public this way. There's this guy that works at the Fairfax post office now who's SO GREAT! He's charming, charismatic, and incredibly customer-oriented. He makes every experience pleasant and fun. And recently I came in to request a package that was there for me; I told him the PO Box number, and he remembered my name associated with it! Wow! He's waited on me several times now, and he's consistently this way. I asked him last time if USPS has recently retrained their staff? He replied that no, it's just him. You cannot rely on this post office to process ordinary mail in a timely manner. A time-sensitive payment that I mailed by putting it into the mail slot for "all outgoing mail" in the lobby was not even stamped "posted" until 5 days later! So do not mail anything via the lobby mail slot - instead, use one of the outside blue boxes, where I presume it will be picked up, on schedule, by a competent postal carrier. I also fully agree with other comments here about Running Deer's rudeness - that attitude does not belong in a customer-facing position, period. read more

Woa! What's with the horrible reviews? When I went in, the woman behind the counter was efficient and helpful. People seemed to know her, like her and she greeted some people by name. She greeted everyone with a smile. I mailed a book and she helped me decide between media mail and first class. She was patient and smiley. We live in Cannon Ridge, Fairfax 22030. Lately, for about 2 months now, we do not receive our mail delivery each day until 5 o'clock or later, several days last week were as late as 7:30pm. I am sure that Ms. Running-Deer, the Postmaster at the Fairfax USPS, has strengths and talents, but courtesy is not one of them. She should not be in a public service position. I have seen her be not only unhelpful, but rude and dismissive to customers, including myself. The new postmaster, Running Deer, is quite possibly the rudest person I have met in years. I have been a Fairfax resident for 20 years and I have therefore used this post office quite a few times in the past. In the first few months of her new position, Running Deer has insisted that they 1) "have never held vacation mail" (what? I hallucinated picking my mail up all those times??) 2) insisted she needs to weigh all pre-paid packages because "people hide stuff in them" (like?? I'm hiding stuff along with my zappos return?) and 3) you can be ejected from the post office by not standing in line far enough back (this last one to a poor woman with a wriggling toddler). I just had the most awful experience in the Fairfax post office. I manage a business in Fairfax and for the last 19 years my boss has given me a company check for a roll of stamps. Today I walked down there in the rain and the woman behind the counter refused to take the company check because my name isn't on it. Of course it isn't on it, it's a company check! She wasn't only rude, but she was insulting, exclaiming that she didn't know me as if her personal recognition was indeed a royal stamp of approval. In fact she was just plain mean as well, she could see that I was soaking wet! Well, we really needed the stamps so I had to walk back and take money out of the register. By the time I got back I was really soaking wet and really really mad on top of it. I told her that she needs to get to know the merchants in this town if she's going to work here. I have to say I miss Joann and her humming while helping you at snails pace, over the complete rude running deer . First of all, is her name a joke or what? We have numerous packages delivered and for some reason we were left a note saying pick up at Fairfax. My daughter went down to pick up and running deer told her it's not here it's in San Anselmo, but said I will call you and let you know. She went home and received a call and "lying deer" left a message say it was indeed in San anselmo and she would need to go there and pick up. I stopped by San Anselmo and they did not have the package, I also talked to a woman from in the back who seemed to be in charge and she said that package is in Fairfax, running deer called us and had it transported to Fairfax, she also told me to not Engage with that postmaster because she is not worth my time and suggested having the package brought back to San anslemo where I could pick up later that evening. I thanked her for her help but told her I would just go to Fairfax, this is really ridiculous that I avoid the Fairfax PO because of this incompetent running deer. I go to Fairfax and I see running deer in the back and she whispers to the front lady my address and they say some more stuff and then the woman says, ya the San anslemo post office always messes up. I said actually it's your supervisor who is lying and you should not go along and support her. She is a terrible woman and I don't know why she is still allowed to work there. So many complaints and she is still hassling nice Fairfax residents. I thought by her name she would be a bit down to earth and with the vibe of Fairfax but I am so wrong and so sad she is even here in this town. I wish I had a more positive update but nothing has changed at the Fairfax post office. It's like they don't do performance evaluations. The postmaster is as rude as ever and seems to take pleasure in lecturing people about ridiculous rules. She made me rewrite my return address on the package because it had one of those printed return labels with a picture. The reason: I could have just pulled those labels out of someone's mail box!! Never mind that it matched the address I put on the customs form and why would I be sending a package to my sister under a fraudulent name? She couldn't believe that I just put the word "purse" on the custom form where it said to name the object in the package and nagged that I should have described what the purse was made of. Meanwhile the line behind me is growing. Then she told me my signature wasn't a legal signature and that next time she wouldn't accept it. I give the Fairfax Post Office one star because of its beautiful location, but I can give it no more because of the rude behavior of the Postmistress, Ms. Running-Deer. Today I attempted to pick up a package for which I received a delivery notification slip clearly stamped "Pick up at Fairfax Post Office". Running-Deer insisted that the package was at the San Anselmo Post Office, which might have been plausible had I not been able to see the package (which was a distinct size and shape) on the shelf. I begged Ms Running-Deer to go and check the address on the package but she refused. She insisted that I was wrong and that all packages are delivered to the San Anselmo Post Office. Noting the line of customers growing of customers, I left and returned later when another worker was on duty. I picked up my package without incident. Draw your own conclusion.
