The post office is clean and the staff are friendly. BUT, they don't have a self-service center! Is that totally dumb? So you have to wait in line for a person. Waste of time going there... The reason they don't have it is because the area is not considered safe so they need to lock it at night and the self-service needs to be open 24 hours. OK, so, WHY would you relocate a post office to an unsafe location and reduce the services available. USPS major fail! Another point I'd like to make is that while the staff is friendly, they are like machines with their brake time. When it's time to take the break, they go, no matter how many people are in line. I have never seen this happen at any other retail store... I mean, you can just wait to take care of the few people in line, AND THEN, take your break. I was just dumbfounded watching 2 of them take breaks with 3 people waiting in line for a while. Finally, the parking lot is designed backwards. Since you are most likely approaching FROM the residential (even office area) of El Segundo you are going east on Mariposa, meaning it would make sense to enter in the first driveway. Instead, you enter in the second driveway, essentially making a useless loop around the parking lot area. And then pulling out of the lot, you cannot go back to El Segundo, but must go east into... ____________________ UPDATED: April 16, 2013 - AFTER tax day I waited 20 minutes in line behind about 8 people with complex packages. Behind me piled up another 5 people. It was around 3:30pm, so not lunch and not after work traffic. THE LINE DID NOT MOVE AT ALL as there was ONLY ONE WINDOW OPEN, so I gave up and left. I just needed to buy stamps! A self-service machine, more EMPLOYEES, and a stamp machine would really hurry things up. Never going to this post-office again. I just left the post office in which I was rudely informed that they could not give me 2 pieces of tape to tape my label down and that I either needed to buy tape from them or else wait to mail my package at a later time. Mind you, this is a return package to Old Navy, no there should be no charge to me. When I said that to her, she said then I needed to contact Old Navy to send me tape! Then I asked for a tracking # for my other package, which was also a free return and she watned to charge me almost $2 to get the tracking number. I'm sorry but it's not like I was asking for a box, packaging, etc. but rather 2 pieces of tape in which was right there next to the manager. First of all, this is why I NEVER go to USPS anymore and rather go to UPS. I never have issues with the workers there who are always friendly and helpful. Second, this is WHY the USPS is having such issues. Why don't they try actually hiring people who are helpful. Anyway, the move is completed, the old PO is closed, and they are trying (sort of) to make the new location work. Not enough parking at peak periods, long lines, etc. The usual mix of competent and incompetent window clerks. there seems to be no management. Just the usual. Some days are better than others, though, so my most recent experience has elevated my star rating to two stars. Big deal, huh? El Segundo used to have the best post office ever. If you think California dmvs are slow, try coming here. Came to this location three separate times on different times of the day and there is a huge line with only one or two staff. They move at a glacial pace but with global warming, that may be giving them too much credit. They don't even have one of those automated mail center kiosk to buy stamps. This post office is actually open again after suffering a major water main break. The number listed everywhere actually forwards to the Hawthorne post office. The number I was actually able to reach the ES office is (310) 414-0354. Although I don't normally write posts on Yelp, I had to write this one! I grew up in El Segundo but I live in Austin now. This week I had the ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! It was so bad that I ended up putting the guy on speaker so my mom, dad and friend could here how horribly rude and condescending he was. When we asked his name he said it was Arthur Tillitt and is apparently is the customer service rep I need to talk to and is in charge of all Priority Mail and disputes. So, a little background: I was visiting my family in El Segundo, CA but forgot my medication and my husband sent it to me by 2 day priority mail. It never arrived so on day 3 I called the main (800) ASK-USPS number and was given a claim # and told someone from the ES post office would contact me within 72 hours...which of course never happened. On the 4th day I called the ES post office and was transferred to Arthur Tillitt who apparently handles all the claims and mis-delivered mail for that office. I explained that my package hadn't been delivered and his response was "the system shows that it was delivered." I assured him it hadn't so what do I do now? He told me that "I can file a claim, but even though Priority Mail packages are insured for $50, if I filed for a reimbursement for the insurance he guaranteed it will be denied because the Post Office assumed I am lying". So, I said "basically being given a tracking # and saying its is covered by $50 of insurance is actually a lie because the post office could deliver my package anywhere, scan it in and declare it delivered." Out of sheer frustration, my mom stepped in and tried to get him to understand our position and why would be frustrated. Ohhhh, the call went downhill from there! He began yelling at my mom and started going into the diatribe about how difficult his job is and we have no idea how many packages they deliver and how much better they are then any other carrier. Any time my mom would say anything he would just continue on talking over her in a louder and louder voice until he was nearly shouting at her. My mom is not a newbie to handling customer service as she was the director of Customer Service for a Fortune 100 company for years. She asked him if he had ever been to any Customer Service training and he replied no. She said that it might help, because all that was needed from him was an understanding of why a customer would be frustrated, and even if they couldn't help them resolve it, at least hear them out. He heard none of this because he was still yelling over her. And then he hung up on her! We all stared at each other in absolute shock! Absolutely unacceptable behavior to treat anyone like that but especially inappropriate if you are the person who deals with customers. As a side note: 2 weeks earlier to this fiasco my mom had ordered something that was sent by Priority Mail and it never arrived. A week later, she received a Priority Mail package for someone who has the same # address but is one street over. She called the post office to let them know, they came and picked it up and sent it to the correct person. When we spoke to my mom's mail carrier that afternoon he said that he had been reassigned for the last few weeks and a fill in carrier for her route was handling her area. He apologized for what happened with him and said that if it helps any the mail carriers aren't treated very well either. I have filed a Consumer Complaint against him with the United States Postal Service and hope that he is reprimanded in some major way! Unbelievable! But consumer beware of the El Segundo Post office and especially if you have to deal with Arthur Tillitt! read more

I'm so disappointed with our USPS service! I specifically paid for my document (certified) be signed by the recipient and now the recipient said they did not get it. I asked USPS to give me a copy of the signature and they said they can't!!!! What's the point of paying the extra $$ if they wouldn't give me the signature of the recipient??? DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!!! This place is a small branch. It has three windows. I came in at 9:45 and only one was open. Three people in line in front of me when I got there. One behind me as I left. This place moved pretty quickly. I have seen this place criticized and other reviews for slow service. It seemed average and acceptable to me.The larger post office on airport has more open windows (usually four) but also a longer line. The problem was the single window post offices like this is that one difficult customer can hold up the line for everyone and make it grow exponentially putting everyone into frustration mode. However the airport/arbor vitae location just keeps chugging along and you can get in and out fairly quickly. This location has one automated stand available 24/7 in the room with the post office boxes. Small po boxes are available for $60/half year. Plenty of parking. No traffic. Easy in and out as it is off the main drag. read more

I would like to share my experience I had with the El Segundo Post Office. I was suppose to get a surprise ring from Chicago. I was informed it was put in my mail box Saturday November 26th, 2016. Only I never got it even though they said it was scanned in at 11:11am that day. I called the 800# and filed a report and got a case #. I was on hold for 51 minutes, but Diamond was very helpful and said I would be hearing from the El Segundo post office in 1 to 3 days. Since I didn't, I walked 2 miles to the post office (in El Segundo) to talk to someone, because the phone # they gave me was not the El Segundo post office. I waited 10 minutes in line to tell my story. The girl rang for someone to help me. About 10 minutes later a girl spoke with me in another area. I told my story, her name was Karen and she was very helpful and caring, but couldn't locate my package. She said they would talk to the mail carrier that delivered that day. By the time I walked home a girl named Melda left a message from the post office. I called her back with the correct phone # I found on YELP. I then told my story again. She was also very caring, but she too could not locate my package. The next day I got a call from a Trina and she inquired if I received my package, which I didn't. I never received my ring, turns out my mail carrier was on vacation. Someone else supposedly delivered it, but not to ME...Someone else received it and it was either given to their girlfriend or someone is walking around wearing my ring! Even though I never got my ring, everyone that helped me at the El Segundo post office was very kind, helpful, and caring. Yes the line is always long when you go in. But I called about a package that i was concerned would not deliver before I left the house. The packages had always come by a certain time, and was express. I called in and spoke with Melba, asking if it was actually being delivered or like previous package, would be delivered next day. She called her supervisor who actually reached the postal drover who delivered within 10 minutes. You have to appreciate that kind of effort. read more

The staff there just like you owe their money and especially the supervisor, when you ask her some question what she can do is just tells you she has no idea about it and you should do it by yourself. The staff at this location are terribly slow. Customer service is very poor. There were 10 people waiting in line this afternoon with 2 clerks. I waited for almost 20 mins till I got to the front. None of the clerks communicated to the customers waiting in line. Isn't it standard customer service to apologize for the long line or tell the customers how much longer it will take? This is the first time posting a review, but I needed others to know the bad experience with one of the workers at this post office. There is an Asian lady that works with gloves at the left counter which wasted my time and gave me an attitude when I dropped off 4 prepaid packages to scan 2 days ago. She told that I NEEDED to do a different method before going to the post office which involved me scanning all my packages to one bar code. It's understandable if I'm bringing in 10+ packages to the post office, but it was only 4 packages that day. She also told me that I'm "holding up the line" by having her scan each of the 4 packages individually. The time it took her to explain this to me and have her leave the counter to go get someone else to explain to me again took longer than scanning 4 packages and giving me my receipt which she refused to do. There were only 4 customers at most in line that day. There are 2 other ladies that work at the same post office that ALWAYS complete my transactions without any attitude. I am willing to stand in line to hand off my packages to have scanned instead of dropping them off on the side. read more

Trina is the best! I had almost 100 packages to send out and she very kindly showed me how to work the kiosk machine. The best customer service I've had in all my years of living in the beach cities (almost 30 years to be exact!) I also noticed in the corner of my eye how she would go out and ask the customers in line whenever the line got a little long, what service they needed and if she could help. Just straight up unpleasant people. Not a smile to be had in this place, doesn't matter how polite the customers are. The specialty this morning was throwing packages around (literally) and speaking harshly to a woman trying to fill out forms with 3 kids (one of whom was a newborn) and a stroller in tow. Nothing has changed in 30 years....still slow, every employee is grumpy and doesn't seem to want to be there so not sure why they took the job to begin with, and clearly supervisors and managers or anyone in charge could care less about the public or how their employees are doing and just continue to let it happen year after year after year after year. Joke of a post office. Our Amazon deliveries are either always late or never arrive. No one ever answers the phone there. They have only one person, if any, working the counter every time I had to go there. My local post office where I live is much more organized. This Post office is okay but now that it is Daylight Saving Time - and it gets dark at 5:00 pm the lights in the parking lot do not come on. This should of been fixed when the plumbing issue got fixed. With a city like El Segundo I'm surprised this has not been corrected. If the lights are on timers they need to be adjusted. Went today. Line out the door. One lady, I won't say her name, working the counter. She's super nice...and slow as molasses. Finally, another woman opens a counter. The first one is chatting away with one customer for literally 20-30 minutes as the other lady is whipping through the line. The hilarious thing is hearing the slow lady say, "The line is slow, but you can't blame us, it's all the cutbacks." No, the line is slow because YOU are slow! If you can't do two things at once, stop chatting with customers, do your job, and the line will move! Then there's a guy working there who is apparently the supervisor. He sees the line isn't moving, but instead of opening another counter to move it along, he opens the package/pickup door and asks if anyone is picking up something. No one is. Then he just hangs out there. No one wants to spend an entire lunch time at the post office, okay? I think I see now why the post office is in so much trouble. read more

The worst post office in the area! I run a home based business and ship high value items in which I need a receipt for my drop offs. The receipt is my proof that I shipped something should I need to file a claim for lost mail. I purchase my labels on USPS.com to save time but Cindy and Sylvia state that I need to pay more to get a receipt since the postage paid online is discounted. These ladies are rude and do not know the meaning of good customer service. Go elsewhere. It's not worth the wait or the poor attitude/service this office provides. I also called to file a complaint with consumer relations and I was told that I was not the first to file a complaint about this office today and their made up lies. Unbelievable! Cindy & Sylvia need to be fired as this is not the good customer service that USPS stands behind. I made the choice of receiving packages at my office because I was afraid of my packages getting lost at my home in Hawthorne while I am at work. I lost one ebay package from this office once and I had to spend almost a day finding the office and driver, including a formal claim. The delivery person signed his own name and claimed that he delivered when it was a signature confirmation. The package was not delivered at the day he recorded. After two days, formal complaint and a talk with the Post Master, my package appeared. Then I got a rude dude calling me asking me if I received the package. A second package from ebay was "lost" again and showing as delivered. I filed a formal complaint, the supervisor of the place told me in the morning that there was nothing he could do that the package was showing as delivered. After the complaint to the Postal Inspector, the supervisor called me and asked me the tracking number and that was the end of it. I lost the money because the package was not insured. So far I have not being able to recover 1 package from Mariposa Ave and 1 package with Hawthorne post office. What am I supposed to do? Not to order from ebay anymore or pay insurance expenses that will increase the cost of the items I buy? Just because these Post Offices don't care about investigating dishonest or illegal behavior from their employees. What do I expected? When you have more than 1 complaint, they need to write all the details of the issue including delivery driver information. If you see a pattern on specific driver(s), you need to take corrective/preventive action with the driver(s) involved. It is a shame that a customer has to show you how to manage your employees when a pattern of irregularities are taking place under the employees you manage. read more
