This USPS facility is mainly a sorting center not open to the public, but you do need to go there to pick up packages if they required a signature and could not be delivered (or if the carrier didn't bother to ring your doorbell). The procedure is awful. First of all, there is absolutely no parking. There is an employee-only lot which is almost always full, even if you want to brave the "you will be towed" warnings. Street parking on Downing is rarely available and there is no parking on 16th Avenue. I often end up parking at the retail Post Office on Marion Street and then walk the two blocks to this location. In the past you then came to a locked door, rang a one-way intercom, gave your name (wondering if anyone had heard you), waited forever, and maybe then someone would appear with your package. Things are now much worse because the retail Post Office on Marion Street has been closed for months due to problems with that building. All of the people who have P.O. boxes at Marion Street must now come to this USPS Annex building to collect their mail. No retail services are offered here so the entire neighborhood has to go to the Post Offices at the Civic Center, downtown, or in North Cherry Creek for any other postal needs. The one concession made by the Postal Service is that regular window hours are now being kept. There is only one clerk on duty and there is always a line. Most of the P.O. box mail appears to have only been sorted into groups of boxes, so the clerk has to go through tray after tray looking for the mail for a specific box. This can take 10-15 minutes per person. If someone with a package delivery issue shows up, that can take 20-30 minutes or longer. There's a very small lobby in front of the service window that now has four broken-down chairs and room for three or four people to stand. I've waited as long as 40 minutes to pick up the mail from my box in this cramped area. The whole situation is absolutely miserable for both the people waiting and for the poor clerk. USPS management does not care. Do they even understand what a customer is? read more

Hours at this facility are further reduced, service remains execrable. If you ask USPS to hold your mail while you're away, you have the option of asking that your carrier deliver all of it when you return. But because routes and carriers are unpredictable, you never know when you must be at home to receive the accumulated mail. You would think then that going to this facility to pick up your mail would be made simple. Instead, this Annex is open only ten hours a week. I LOVE my mail carrier. Capital Hill is probably the most difficult neighborhood in Denver to deliver in. You've got lots of traffic, very few parking spaces, mailboxes that are hidden in strange places & people who move frequently. It's a difficult job & long hours with rigid management. I appreciate that he is always early (although I know that is luck of the route layout) he is always cheerful and very polite. I just want John to know I appreciate him and the hard work he does. It takes a special kind of person to take complaints constantly from both customers and supervisors when missing mail just happens. It's nobodies fault, but the carrier gets all the complaints. I appreciate his attitude and friendliness. I've only been to the actual store a handful of times. I've never had a problem. It makes me sad when I see carriers out so late at night. Maybe some day they can hire enough people to work so employees can have some time off. But since politics are involved in the organization, they are doing the best they can with their hands tied. Management doesn't have authority to hire enough help, so yes, late mail happens. I think they're doing a great job considering that fact. Happy holidays! To the REAL SANTAS!! read more

I know people love to hate on USPS but this isn't the location you should be hating on. Honestly this is probably the best USPS location I've ever been to (I've lived in about 5 cities and moved about 10 times in 10 years so I know the USPS). I find the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous, always willing to explain things clearly and sympathize with frustrated customer. Special shout out to the younger guy with blonde hair -- he is always easy to deal with and explains things clearly to me and other customers. The wait is usually less than 5 minutes even though they always start by saying "sorry for the wait" which always makes me laugh because they're all obviously trained to say that. lol read more

I know you can't really pick your post office, and that's really a shame. This is my first 1 star review, and that seriously says alot. I've had several (yes, SEVERAL) bad experiences at this particular branch, and the most frustrating thing is that you can't really do anything about it! I've lost a valued book that I was shipping back to a friend, and it still hasn't been recovered. Was told to contact some mythical "global shipping department" but wasn't given any 411, just instructed to "look it up in the Yellow Pages". Why was I not surprised it wasn't in there? Was treated rudely on several occasions, but to be fair it was by the same lady (and I'm wondering if it's the same one mentioned by Shiho). Here's the kicker-- my wife and I went on a wild goose chase this morning trying to simply pick up our held mail from when we went on vacation. First, we were told to check with the Annex building across the street. Fine, easy, right? Well, the person there told us our mail was held in a special mail room in a separate building downtown, and we had to go there. We got to the building and it was closed (of course), somehow got security to open up for us and miraculously spoke to our mail carrier who happened to be working for a brief period of time in that very mail room. He proceeded to tell us that our mail wasn't there, but it was actually BACK in our apartment complex in a large letter box, which he had still been delivering every day we were gone, knowing full well we had placed a vacation hold! I don't know what gives, but the USPS certainly let me down. read more

Really slow and unpleasant/rude. I was the only person in line and one of the workers up front had to call back to them to look up from what they were doing. The gentleman that helped me (I don't remember his name must that he was bald), never confirmed what address I was sending my package to, just took it and walked away. High rate of theft. Items showing as "delivered'..yet, they were not. Recently had a carpet cleaner 'delivered'..during a time I was on my porch..and....ummm...unless I am blind- a truck never came by. I called Amazon and they suggested I wait a day..because oftentimes the postal worker will mark something as delivered just to meet a quota. So, I waited..and nothing. Amazon was great about issuing a refund..but that doesn't fix the fact that this location is corrupt. Postal workers should be required to flick everything like Amazon does. This is not the first time I've dealt with this. You submit a form to the usps asking for someone to contact you- bahaha yeah right. It's a damn joke. I absolutely dread when I find out a company ships through the usps vs FedEx, etc. Something needs to be done! A damn carpet cleaner is missing and you mismanaged bunch of fools can't tell me where it is?. I called to simply put my mail on hold for a few days so it would be directed to my new address. I had to talk to a machine for 15 minutes only for it to tell me it couldn't help me bc the dates I entered were wrong. The machine said to pleas hold - wait time would be between 10-15 minutes. Can you put negative stars? I have been waiting for a package for a week and it has been sitting in the Denver post office for 4 DAYS! I called 3 times today and was met with a woman on the phone who had nothing but unhelpful short answers and was super eager to get off the phone. I asked her when the package would be delivered (this is an insurance package...ps) and she said it could be as late as 6:30pm. So I waited till 6:30 and still no package (remember...4 days late) and then I called back and she said it could be as late as 7pm. So then I drove over to the post office and it was already closed. I agree with the earlier poster.....why do we still have a post office if they can't do their very basic job? Let alone just be nice and helpful on the phone. And why would my package just be sitting there??? Contact me and I'll come pick it up myself and do your job for you. Use a different service. Or use a carrier pigeon because it will probably be faster. read more

Why would they even bother opening for two hours on Tuesday? The hours are inconvenient for anyone who has a normal workday job. On more than one occasion have been standing at the service door ringing the bell all while listening to the counter attendant chatting on his cell phone. Never a dull moment with government agencies. Now I get to leave work early, and rush to the post office for a package that they would not attempt to redeliver. Awesome. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever dealt with. I was shipped an important package priority mail which was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Although I was home all day, when I checked the tracking information later on, it said "attempted delivery, notice left." There was no notice left. When I went this morning to retrieve that package that was supposed to be left at the post office, the woman was extremely rude and said they couldn't find it. When I asked to speak with the supervisor, he told me it was back out for delivery but they couldn't contact the carrier. I explained what happened yesterday (no indication of courier, no notice) and the supervisor actually yelled in my face "I don't know what you want me to do!" Absolutely unnecessary behavior from someone who is supposed to be in charge. read more

We sent a personal check using priority mail and signature confirmation requires. It was tracked to the receiving post office, tracked to be out to be delivered, and then disappeared. What is the point of paying for tracking if the response is, "We don't know what happened to it?" It never surfaced. Therefore, we paid for the priority mail, for the tracking and signature confirmation, and then we had to pay to stop payment, and alternatively wire the money. And their response was, "Next time send it express mail and pay to insure it and then we will pay the insurance, but we still won't refund the cost of sending it if it is not received." So glad I found this location to review properly. I had packages stolen and so went here to ask about having packages held so I can pick them up. She told me they can only hold mail for 15 days and all of it. I say fine, fill out card and leave. A couple of days later my package says it was out for delivery but was not delivered and no slip left. I go there and she tells me nothing is there. Couple days later, same thing and tracking information isn't updated beyond a few days ago. I go in a third time, she tells me it's not there and they have no information. The time previously I had asked her to discontinue holding of any mail and to throw the slip away. She gives me a number to call about lost/stolen packages and it's a local wrong number. She also has personal conversations on her cell phone while "helping" you. Today my package came right along with the hold tag I had asked her to throw away. This place is just absurd. I can't believe the number of incompetents they hire at the postal office. read more

I honestly wish I could give this place zero stars. Absolutely worst service ever!!! Package was supposed to be on Monday and checked he tracking and said attempted delivery. When I tried to call the post office I couldn't get through and probably called over 10 tines until someone answered. When someone did, I wasn't even put on hold, just the phone was sat down and left for 10+ minutes. When he returned he told me that they couldn't get ahold of the carrier and my package was at the post office and could pick it up. I went there Wednesday at 3:30, they are open till 5 and the window was shut and rang and called he office over 10 Times. I was banging on the door and yelling and took 20 minutes for someone to come. When the woman came to the door I said, I've been waiting here and banging for someone to answer. And she rudely said. "I was on break." Was NOT apologetic or helpful. This place is a joke and the front area looks like a prison holding cell. Tried to call back to complain and get ahold of a manager and couldn't even get through. Such awful service here. Needs to be shut down. read more
