My number was called, I went to the window with my documents. Piece of cake. I was in and out with title + registration + plates in less than 45 minutes. The frontline employees are not the problem here. They appear to be doing everything they possibly can with the resources they've been given. The real problem is Denver city government. Denver officials acknowledged earlier this year that its motor-vehicle offices were operating at roughly 55% staffing, with average waits exceeding 90 minutes. This came amid the city's hiring freeze and budget decisions made by the mayor's administration and City Council. Whatever Denver's budget challenges may be, this level of service is unacceptable for a basic government function. Residents should not have to arrive before sunrise just to avoid spending several hours in line to register a vehicle. And employees should not be put in the position of having to perform heroics simply to keep an inadequately staffed system functioning. Mayor Johnston's administration and the City Council should take responsibility for fixing this. It isn't fair to residents, and it certainly isn't fair to the employees who are left dealing face-to-face with the consequences of decisions made well above their level. Five stars to the supervisor and staff I dealt with. Two stars overall because Denver's elected leadership has allowed a basic public service to reach a point where excellent employees are being set up to fail. read more

This experience was exactly what I thought it would be. I got there 10 min after they opened on a Tuesday or Wednesday, waited almost 1 hour outside before being able to get my number, waited another 4 hours...just for them to fully skip my number. Waited an additional hour after getting a special S number (they verified I had been skipped) and then I decided to give up and try another day. I returned the next day, waited almost 2 hours, and then was finally able to register my vehicle. I honestly wanted to give them 1 star, but I decided on 2 stars because the security guard at the front and all of the staff members inside were actually very friendly and pleasant. This is unfortunately just exactly how a DMV works, and as long as you expect it going into your DMV experience, you shouldn't be let down. Nevertheless, I will say that this DMV could do a better job at highlighting which services they no longer provide. It is my understanding that they recently stopped providing specific services, because SEVERAL individuals waited in line for hours just to be told that they could not complete that transaction there. I think that is unacceptable, and services should be very clearly posted everywhere. Also, you have to check in with a staff member at a desk in order to get your number, and they ask you what you are there for. Issues like that should get ironed out there, not after waiting several hours. read more

Obviously we all know that the DMV is not fun. I think the systems in place currently make the DMV largely inaccessible and unnecessarily confusing. However!!! The people I interacted with at this location made the experience so much smoother. We had our security guard diva (long brown hair in a half pony) who made sure everyone in line knew what services they couldn't provide today, and I personally saw him take many extra steps to just be generally kind to people (opening doors, smiling, directing me to an extra pen, etc.). Selina is who helped me out when my number was called and she was very friendly, informative, and timely! To the DMV Cotopaxi vest lady - you are awesome! I stopped by this location around 6:30am on Tuesday , April 21st. There was already a line forming with like 7 people ahead of me. When 7am struck Cotopaxi vest lady came out and addressed everyone re the process and what they do and don't do at this location. Once we got our numbers we filed inside and she addressed us one by one to make sure titles were filled out correctly BEFORE we were called up to the counter. This process really streamlined things and made things flow. A visit that could have easily taken 45 mins only took 20! I was out of there at 7:20!!! I haven't been to a dmv lately so not sure if this is a new thing or this is what they do at this location. Definitely a model, process they should continue and implement at all locations! She was also very helpful when customers asked her questions. read more

I'm a disabled senior who walks with a cane but I went to stand in the long entrance line anyway. I was in line for just a second and a female security card came and got me , took me past the line , sat me down and provided the customer number I would have gotten from my turn at the front of the line. I was flabbergasted! Everything else went smooth as silk and I finished my business there very quickly. I'm still impressed with the customer service when I think about that visit to this particular DMV facility. read more

I have to start out by complimenting Ashley who was so friendly, helpful and efficient. I give her 5 stars - personable, professional, genuine and patient. A fine example of the qualities anybody would want in a team member. That said, Fran gets "0" and should consider a new line of work or just something that is not customer/human facing. Maybe a perfect fit for a back office role doing audits at night, or something that involves no people. She uses condescending tones and pretty much matched the exact profile of a person working at DMV who makes these visits unnecessarily painful. The last visit was with an African American woman who had to be the worst state employee I've ever come in contact with. After waiting 90 mins, she found one signature on a title that was missing a date. Knowing this was sold out of state, it's literally impossible to physically go meet the seller to collect a date of signature. She knew that I was forced to enter the date on my own, but made me leave the office and come back to pull a number and wait for another 60+ mins. In the end, the date was placed onto the doc and completed at another more friendlier DMV, albeit after a 20 min drive and another 30 mins of waiting. Seems like an unnecessary amount of time spent by two state employees. Our tax dollars hard at work. Go to Central Park/Stapleton - they are always courteous and respectful - even the security team is helpful. read more

I got to the DMV after 2:30pm which is the cut off - they were turning everyone away and the person at the door couldn't let me in but said he would ask his manager - Rich Martinez - because I had been driving for an hour to get there. Instead of having the guy at the door tell me no Rich took the time to come out and explain. The answer was still no (they couldn't let me in because there were tons of people still pulling up and trying to get in even as I was leaving) but it made all the difference in the world that Rich took the time to talk to me. He told me the best time to come back and made sure I had everything I would need to get to get my title and registration transfer when I came back. He was very professional and compassionate. She was patient with me while I located my milage and helped me fill out all my paper with with no rush and explained items when necessary. I arrived early on a Tuesday for one trip and early on a Thursday for another. My wait was not more than 1/2 hour. Once I was called, it was a quick process since I had everything in order. I believe I was done in less than an hour during each visit. I used my wait time to make phone calls about another errand I had to run later that day. Those who seemed frustrated or had been waiting along time were folks who forgot to bring the information. A quick visit to the web site or a call to the office (I did both, and both were fast and easy) lets you know what you need to do/have before you get in line. I was dreading my visit to DMV. I needed to get a handicapped placard and I'm in pain. I was worried about having to stand a long time. Well all of my concerns were for naught! I had the single best experience not just at DMV but at any state run facility ever! I was greeted by Tim. He went above and beyond to help me and was not just good at what he does but very kind the whole way through. Tim's attitude totally effected my experience He was optimistic and friendly and super kind the whole time. Go to this DMV just to visit with Tim! His attitude affected mine the rest of the day. If I must go to the DMV, then this is the one I choose. It's usually relatively calm compared to other DMV's around town. By calm, I mean a reasonable wait time. That being said, I'm not sure how you can rate a DMV. Going to the DMV only evokes fear and anger for most people. There's NO WAY I could ever give a DMV over three stars. There's nothing fancy to report about this place. Pick and number and wait your turn. They only renew and register at this location so if you need a DL you'll have to go to one of the other spots. A good rule of thumb: stay away on the beginning or end of the month. read more
