I go here regularly to ship and package all my textbooks that I sell online. Last time I went here, a postal worker saved me a ton of money. I was about to ship my stuff by weight since they couldn't fit in the regular flat rate envelopes, but the woman told me better deals. She was patient and got me all these boxes without even asking for them! She kept saying "you don't need to pay for things that you don't want!". I like that. The lines are long in the afternoon, so if you're familiar with your shipping method, you can use the automated machine in the front. This place is reliable with friendly service and they know what they're talking about. I can't say the same about the post office at memorial union, which is sometimes open on a thursday morning, sometimes not, and usually out of all shipping envelopes (aren't all post offices supposed to have those?). Unlike majority of the reviews here, I've actually had nothing but good experiences here. I usually have pre-paid packages so I don't have to wait in line to pay for anything. The line hasn't been long the few times I've went, so I wait in line to have them scan my stuff. They were very fast and efficient when I went. Friendly also. Listed hours are wrong. Went to pick up an important package at 8 before a flight, hours said 8-5, but nothing was open. There were people there working. You could hear them very easily, but no assistance. Waited till 830 when the package pickup door said they would be open, and they continued to ignore over a half dozen requests for assistance over the next 5-10 minutes. Pretty darn annoying having to wait 30 minutes for a package because they can't provide you with accurate information and no one is willing to respond to the package pickup buzz. read more

The workers were quite friendly, maybe I went on a good date as compared to the other reviews. My large return box was shipped promptly within the two day ship and just waiting on my refund on that order. Line is usually long at the USPS store, but it went by quickly. 4 workers at a time when I went on a Tuesday around 1pm. Clean, spacious and plenty of parking, just annoying to have to deal with a one way in and out lot though. They also have to drop off boxes out side as well and a mail consierage to assist you while you wait in line, but if someone needs a lot of help. They may never get to you, lol. read more

I once received a package that could not for some odd reason be delivered to my residence. So they held it here. Not having a car and recently having had my bike stolen I had to walk across campus, across town, all the way to this piece of shit. I've been here a couple of times to either send a Christmas package or buy postage stamps. I tend to get the friendly bald man as my cashier person. He taught me a lesson today regarding the packaging boxes. If you reuse boxes, only need to remove the portions that refers to addresses with a black marker. See.. my boxes was covered with Sharpie marker since I thought everything had to be hidden. Yay! Now I know.. I can leave the amazon.com references all over the boxes for future shipping. P.S. I was there today and as I walked in there was a man with no mask on. They took care of him and didn't say anything about him not having a mask. They should of refused to help him until he put one on. everyone keeps saying if we work together we can fix this. It had a tracking number and I looked it up online only to find out it was out for delivery, but never made it any where after that... very very suspicious. Davis USPS represents some of the worst in work ethic and customer service that I have ever seen. Beginning with the fact that their phone line is busy even when they have workers in the office, to how they will have a line out the door with one employee behind the counter, they excel at wasting your time as the customer. You can expect different answers from different representatives, as well as promises to be helped and followed up with over the phone which are met with no action. Their voicemail system is terrible, and, naturally, no matter the amount of people waiting or what they are waiting for, they shut their doors at exactly 5 pm. read more

I would give this zero stars if I could. I never write reviews on Yelp but due to the post office's extreme dishonesty, I feel like I should tell my story to make it known. Here's my experience with the post office: I recently mailed a letter to Spain on express mail, that I paid $50 for, to have it delivered in 3-5 days. Not only did the mail not get there in 3-5 days, but it's been on the way for the past two weeks. I sent it on express mail because the addressee is a student and is going to leave soon and now it's too late, so I went to the post office to complain today. As I walked in, I could see that the line stretched pass the entrance doors, yet there were only two clerks at the desk. Later when the line died down more clerks came out to help. I think they should know better. Anyways I was helped and told to wait to talk to the supervisor. After waiting 20 minutes, I saw the supervisor, a middle-aged black male wearing a green polo, walk out and back in multiple times, yet they told me to keep waiting as he was in a "meeting". After another 20 minutes I complained again and saw the supervisor walk out back and forth and help out a clerk at the front desk. I think that if he has the time to help other people out he should've already helped me, who has been waiting for almost ONE HOUR out by now. Instead I assume that he avoided me hoping that I would leave after waiting too long. Eventually I lost my patience and left. But I will be back tomorrow to settle things. Their regular staff is okay but the manager James is just horrible....He doesn't seems to know anything about USPS services and he always has an attitude.I've lost two packages at this location. One is supposed to be sent back to the sender but they never got it. And another one says delivered but just wasn't in my mailbox. Whenever I go to the post office James would just ask me for the tracking number and track it online. NOTHING else.....and he said, I quote "if it says delivered on the website, it's delivered." The line tends to move fairly slowly and staff tends to be unfriendly however at my most recent visit the lady that helped me was so nice and engaged in an actual conversation with me that I left feeling in a friendly mood! Goodness, this place is just horrible. Yesterday I waited over thirty minute to check if I had a package there because I couldn't access my mail box. A woman named Rosa checked and said there was nothing. I get the key right after and there's a notice I need to pick up my package at this exact location. Just went in today with a few orders off amazon.com to send off and was very happy with this experience. The staff here are happy and the most informative USPS people I know of when it came to questions about shipping products like books, fragile items, electronics etc. They gave me options on the speed of delivery, insurance, and told me about keeping the receipt for record. The envelopes and shipping supplies are well-stocked and neat, some USPS offices is a mess and are always out of things, I couldn't even find a pen at one USPS in Sacramento and took me almost 30 minutes to send one book. At this USPS it took me less than 10 minutes to send almost 5 things. read more

THE DAVIS POST OFFICE STEALS MONEY OUT OF THE MAIL! Don't ever send money to a student who attends UC Davis because someone who works at the post office will steal it every time! My grandson has received my cards that have been slit open with the cash stolen ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I never have this problem with my grandkids at UC Berkeley or Yale. I am aware of all the bad reviews here, but honestly, my actual home post office (Royal Oaks, Sacramento) is way worse in terms of missing packages. The same reason I go to the Davis DMV -- it's a lesser of two evils. Can't improve the general experience THAT much but it is more convenient than going to the UPS Store or FedEx downtown. I usually go through this Davis USPS since it's close to work, and I have never had a bad experience here -- I've shipped many, many flat rate priority mail boxes to US and APO destinations which were trackable and delivered fine, used their self-service machine and dropped off stamped cards/letters in person at the slot inside or at the drive through boxes outside if I miss the pickup time at my office. Yes, the lines can get long, but there are always the same 2-4 postal workers at the counters (separate from the passport counter). There is a person at the front of the line who assists depending what you need (stamps, etc.) to expedite if you need certain forms filled out, etc. Yesterday, I had an envelope (documents) I needed next-day (1-day Priority Express) delivery for, and after weighing, the lady advised it would be $15 cheaper for me to send it in a flat-rate priority express envelope ($19.99). It was sent with the evening express mail, and arrived 90 minutes before promised at its destination in TX! Sent a few handwritten letters for the Snail Mail My Email 2015 project through here as well. So no, I don't hate on this particular post office so much. read more

Had a highly unpleasant experience with the man who works the Passport station. I had been all over town looking for someone who could help me with a UK visa/passport photograph for my visa application (they require a 35mmx45mm picture, not a 2in squared picture), and all of the other stores (CVS, FedEx, etc.) had sent me to the 5th street Post Office. After waiting in line for 20 minutes, when I explained the situation and asked the clerk if he could help me, he was so shockingly rude that at first I didn't know what to say. He told me: "No, we only do US size photos." I said that was fine, but did he know where I could go for UK size photos, since I am sure I am not the first person in Davis who has needed a UK visa. He said, "I have no idea" dismissively, and when I said that FedEx had sent me to him, he insinuated that I was lying by saying, "You weren't at FedEx, you said you went to CVS." I had been to both. I found it so insulting that he was trying to tell me that I was lying. He concluded this with saying, "Nope, can't help you, not my problem." If you experience this kind of customer service again from this post office, please call in and let someone know. It is unacceptable to be so rude to someone who was just looking for some help. If you want passport help, go to the PDQ on F Street. They were so incredibly kind and helpful when I went to them after the post office. read more

I honestly can't see how people give this place 4 stars. I've been coming here ignorantly on many occasions to ship out books to computer hardware, only to be met with a vibe borderlining animosity. About 75% of the time I get this one lady who seems to hate her government job, because the look I get is blank and hard. When asking her for "help" she attempts to tell you what to do but in a very condescending manner, and doesn't even move a finger or suggest which forms to get. This place limps with a 2 star rating because there are 2 older men who are VERY helpful without the bs attitude. I went in today to ship a huge package and the same lady decides to say it's going to be well over $20, and once I had everything filled out/taped up, they could ship it. Good thing I went to the UPS store in downtown, where not only did the guy tape up everything, addressed the package again digitally and promptly for me; he also hooked me up with a 5% discount even though I forgot my student ID. I read all the reviews before went to this office and expected a bad service, but it turned out ok. Then I needed to go there for the following couple months on a weekly basis. Only a couple of times the line was long and only one staff refused to help me because she said she had to leave, but overall they were friendly. And always there was a staff tried to help people in the line before we reached the window. One thing I didn't like though, was they always tried to persuade people to use the machine instead of waiting in the line, but I prefer get help from a person :) read more

For a post office, Davis' post office rocks!! The people have always been very friendly and helpful. I've never had to wait in line for long periods of time (surprising, b/c I think this is the only post office in town too). Location is super-easy to find and get to. You can easily walk, bike, bus, or drive your car here for your mail and package needs. Oh yea, btw, I need to mention that I did go during non-peak hours, so I'm assuming right after work and during lunch periods, the lines are a bit longer than I ever experienced... even so, you're in Davis - what's the rush. read more

Hello I know how hard the postal workers have to work, as I once was a rural route carrier in Plumas Co. in Ca. My concern is that since you no longer do Passport service & renewal, that you st least have a supply of Passport Renewal forms DS-82 on hand available for people to mail in on their own. I was told that one had to go on line and download a form. Never mind that a renewal link said that Passport service was now available at Davis PO on 3rd St. No it isn't! I was told one had to go to West Sac to get such forms FYI Postmaster/ supervisor, one can easily go to UC Davis Arts and Recreation and get all the stuff you need! Very simple just like it once was on 5th street. Anyway, hopefully you now have the good sense to tell your customers to go to UC Davis etc. Or how much trouble is it to keep forms available with all your other stuff and forms This is vital because of the long process required for renewal these days! Hopefully you will all get with it and have forms available if nothing else! Besides downloading some forms required a lot of time consuming details for those not into total online life styles. read more

The carriers never bother to deliver packages. They just leave a "sorry we missed you" slip and ask you to pick up the package later. It doesn't help if you use USPS website to give them instructions, or even ask them to hold on to the package until you can pick it up. They just put it on the truck, but never deliver it. read more

I went to this location to mail some packages about 2 weeks ago. The woman at the counter named Angel was so rude I almost walked out. When I entered, I was the only customer inside. She was acting completely unprofessional, snide and snotty. She had a "I don't need to be bothered by you attitude". If I didn't need to get my packages out that day for a birthday, I would have driven to a different location. She needs to be addressed because she is the worst counter person I have ever encountered. read more

Be advised if you're doing anything with a passport on Saturday, they've changed their Saturday passport policy to appointment only (they still allow regular walk-ins M-F)! Found that out the hard way today, no mention of that anywhere on any sites. Lines were long, but at least they had an employee going down the line asking what people are there for and to direct them to the proper answer/form to make sure they weren't wasting their time in line. read more

Why are there always so many people and why does the line always move so slow? They should put more USPS priority boxes outside and get international mail working on the automated machine so that less people will have to wait for an actual person for help. Depending on who helps you, they can be super nice or you can tell that they would rather be dead than stand there and help you. read more

I don't use this post office very often (couple of times a year), but when I do, things go anywhere from smoothly to great. Today was exceptional. I had a priority mail letter that was supposed to be delivered on campus this morning but was still at the post office in Davis (not the Davis post office's fault). My student absolutely needed it - it was the signed title page of his thesis. Deadline for filing today. I asked if there was any way we could come pick it up, and Vince came to the rescue. Maybe because it was in a priority mail envelope, but he found it among many items, student picked it up, and all ended up as a happy story. THANKS VINCE! read more

I've had some pretty mixed experiences at this post office. Usually it's pretty good - there's a lot of people that come here but the line moves at a reasonable rate, although maybe a tad on the slower side. But the last time I came here I got pretty peeved, not gonna lie. I got out of class at 4 or 4:30PM every day last quarter and that left little time to get home and drive over to the post office. The hours listed on here say 5:30PM, so I figured I had time. But I got to the post office at 5:02 and there was a guy guarding the door saying I couldn't go in. Well that was pretty annoying - literally two minutes after and he wouldn't let me in. I explained to him that I thought it closed at 5:30 and I needed to mail out a package that day, but he shook his head. About 4 other customers walked in after me and some of them started yelling at him and arguing with him about the hours listed as well. I felt bad for him, but then he had a rude attitude and stated that it wasn't his or any other employee's responsibility to update it or inform anybody to change the hours listed. Except it is, because you WANT your customers to be happy and you WANT them to come here and not somewhere else. After some yelling occurred between him and some of the other customers I asked if there was any way I could ship the package out that day, and he showed me the self-serve system that lets you do everything yourself. It was pretty helpful and by then I had cooled off a little, so I thanked the guy and left. I know its just a post office, but the employees could really work on their customer service skills.
