Service has improved here. Most packages I drop off are back to being scanned that day. I did recently have an international package returned to me due to missing customs information but I believe that's a usps lack of education on new import rules for that country - nonetheless a lesson to do your own research and not leave everything to the hands of usps employees. read more

It's a hit or miss when needing service here. The small petite woman with long brown hair is very fast and efficient. Same with one of the Asian women. Everyone else kind of takes a long time. Today there was lack of communication with the workers. The Korean lady helping me had issues with her printer 2x. She seemed flustered and told me to wait for the other worker (who was scanning and moving packages)... there was a man behind me so I wasn't sure if I should wait behind him or if I was still next, because the Korean lady didn't even tell her coworker what was going on. For about 3 long minutes the man and I stood around looking at both of them. It wasn't until the other worker noticed me and made eye contact with me that she asked the Korean woman if she was going to help us. Then the Korean woman finally mentioned her printer wasn't working... A simple "hey coworker my printer isn't working can you please help the customers" would have been nice. read more

There seems to be either a lot of incompetence, or apathy, or both, behind the scenes of the Davis Post Office. I purchased a PO Box rental about three weeks ago and received someone else's mail on the very first day. Miriam said it's because the previous renter stopped paying, so she had the key changed and said it wouldn't happen again because she would put "stickies" on the other side of the box to notify the workers not to do it again. I had a feeling it wouldn't work and asked for a different box. She insisted that I give them a chance. My gut was right. I have since continued to receive the other person's mail more than my own. So, I complained to the supervisor. She said she would tell the workers and inquire into getting me another box. Then, it happened again. So, I spoke to another supervisor who said, adamantly, that it wouldn't happen again. We'll see. In the meantime, some of my mail is still going to my previous address, after having received "official confirmation" that my mail was being forwarded to the PO Box--a service which is supposed to be good for a year! Had I known I would go through all of this, I would never have purchased a USPS Box. I would have paid extra to get a box at UPS, a non-government entity. If I cancel this PO Box, I only get a partial refund, so I'm stuck with it for another five+ months. In the meantime, I have to wonder, where is my own mail going (besides to my old address)? read more

I would just like to report at issue I have with one of your mail carriers. Today I witnessed him coming into my front gate to drop off the mail and not closing and latching my iron gate on the way out. This has happened numerous times and in addition, he walks across my grass and stepped on and broke my sprinkler twice already. TLDR: Lady was rude to me. No thanks! My mail got stuck at the post office so I called ahead of time to ask about the status and the person on the phone (who was great) found my mail and told me that she would hold it for me to pick up later that day. When I got there, the lady on the phone was gone and the one lady I spoke to at the post office was horrible. She didn't listen to me and so she looked in the wrong place. Wasted her time and my time. I had to repeat myself multiple times before she finally understood me and then she found my mail and told me to tell her that my mail was on hold next time....even though I told her that already...multiple times. You'd think you can't have a pleasant experience at the post office, right? Wrong! I've been here twice and both my experiences have been great! There's someone at the door to greet and advise you. The first time I came here, I needed to get a money order and mail it along with some paperwork. The staff was incredibly helpful, patient and nice and helped me through each step of the way. The second time, I needed to mail a box. While I was waiting in the line, a staff member approached me and asked he how he can help. He took my box and told me I don't need to wait as the package was prepaid. Used one of the shipping boxes provided by the PO to pack and ship something out of state. The very RUDE Asian woman behind the counter said I used the wrong box and needed to repack everything. It would also cost $110 to ship. I said, "Why is it the wrong box?" She could not answer and become even less helpful and increasingly rude, insisting that I had to use a different box and repack. I took my packed USPS box to FedEx and they shipped it fine for $28. Do NOT us the Davis Post Office for shipping. read more

I came in to print a label for my package and drop it off to be shipped. It's pretty crowded and gross outside, but inside is clean and quiet despite how many people there are. Everyone was social distancing and wearing a mask (except one guy who was asked to leave). I used the self service machine to get my label, which was smooth. The drop off boxes fill up VERY quickly (it was so full it almost didn't close), so I would advise coming early! read more

Come here if you want a wider selection of postage stamps! I came after going to the post office on 3rd street in Davis because they didn't have any of the stamps that I wanted. Like any post office, there was a line but it moved pretty fast. There were 2 people at the counter and one in the back who was helping people with picking up packages and about 10 people in line. When I got to the counter, the person helping me seemed very apologetic about the wait. I felt really bad when I asked the person for the specific stamps that I wanted and he had to go searching for them in a drawer at the back and holding up the line for another 3 minutes or so. But I did come specifically for the stamps because picking out the stamps is 35% of the fun in writing letters. Overall, I would come back to this post office so I don't have to deal with the parking downtown (they have plenty of parking spaces). Although it may seem like there is a lot of people they tend to move fast. And they have a wide selection of stamps! read more

Lost $50 worth of packages through their delivery. Occasionally checks that package is delivered. Also their response to lost packages is to file a claim when not every package has insurance to file a claim. Only thing good is the cheap international mailing service. read more

Not the best experience I have had at the post office. I was there forwarding my mail and the lady helping me was very difficult to work with and ask questions, which was frustrating because I have never filled out those forms. However, I have used the outside drop boxes often and enjoy that there is never a line. I have also bought stamps here multiple times, normally it's a pretty seamless experience. read more

Came in to drop off a return and they told me they don't have tape. I had to purchase $4 tape. Not a big deal but the lady telling me this was practically scolding me for not bringing my own. She also let me use her sharpie and was like "don't go far and make sure to give it back, that's my personal one." Oh god lady get a grip it's a damn marker. There are two post offices in Davis and this is the one you want to go to. Bigger, more staff on hand, plenty of mailing supplies, and ample parking. Even if the lines are long, the staff does their best to move things along smoothly. Not only helpful employees, but personable as well. I'm happy to have a welcoming and functional post office in town. read more

Every single time I come here there's a line. Even the short lines take forever!! If you are in a hurry, I suggest going to the one in the MU on campus. The service was good though and the workers were friends and helpful. However, the wait can be unbearable. read more

When I went to the location on 3rd street, I just wanted to ask about the approximate price it would be to send a small box that was lightweight internationally. She just told me "it depends on the size and weight" which I already knew and when I went to specify what I meant and approximate the size and weight it would be since she couldn't help me to start off, she just repeated, "I don't know it depends on the size and weight of the package." I went to this location, the one on 5th street, and the lady there was amazing. She took the time to ask me what I would be sending so she could get an approximate weight and size and then proceeded to ask me if I wanted the fastest or cheapest. Even though I asked for the cheapest, she wrote down on the piece of paper the amount and restrictions for each option which really helped. She even recommended an option she thought was the best for me. read more

I'm glad I now have a Kindle Paperwhite that I can bring along with me everywhere because there is always a long line at the post office. Reading a good book while waiting makes the time go quickly until you are finally at the counter. Once there the employees are friendly, efficient, and helpful. Really upset with the hoops I have been jumping around. First a package was apparently delivered but no one can find it and after two weeks checking back was finally told I could file a grievance or complaint about it. Now my partners stimulus card has been either lost or stolen by a clerk there. It was in my informed delivery notice yet never arrived at my location. DO NOT SEND PACKAGES THROUGH HERE! My girlfriend and I have had TEN packages suddenly vanish from the system after arriving at the Davis Post Office. All are marked "undeliverable" before delivery is even attempted, (despite all other mail going through,) and yet they're never sent back to the sender, they just vanish. We got the run around, so we're going to the Postal Inspector and the police. If your packages look valuable, don't send them through here- they steal things. I have lost hundreds of dollars because of these criminals. read more

I dropped off 7 packages last Monday 08/17 and barley got the scans today 08/25. Buyers were accusing me of not shipping their packages. Thankful they were not lost or stolen. Hey, for a post office, you can't get much better than this. I walked in there last month with a stack of 57 large, flat envelopes, which would ultimately cost me around 80 dollars to send. One of the employees, I regrettably don't remember her name, sat there patiently while we figured out how we would get all of them stamped and sent. The line is usually long but it moves fast. USPS website is OUTDATED. Take any information there with a grain of salt. You CANNOT renew your passport at this location. Just fill out the form and mail it in. EVEN though the website states for this location that "US Passport renewal can be done in person, or by mail if within 15 yrs of previous." LIES LIES LIES. read more

I hate how there's always a long line every time i come here, especially in the beginning of the quarter when everyone is shipping out their books. There are a few shipping counters here but only less than half are used at a time. It's a little annoying when all i need is to pick up a package they couldn't fit in my mailbox. However, I can't give it too bad of a rating since one time i accidently mailed a priority package back to myself (apparently in the hurry i was in i misread the to and from and switched it around) and was surprised to see the package i had mailed out the day before in my mailbox. I don't usually write reviews on Yelp but my recently visited was too disappointed. I went there to ask for the mails because our apt mailboxes was broken for awhile. It is ok for me to open the box but not them. I wondered why I didn't get any mails for like 2 weeks. I just knew it after my neighbor told me. An asian lady went to the back looking for my mails and came back with nothing, yelling at me why I came here listening to my neighbor when there were no mail there at all. However, because I know that I missed 3 important mails already, I came back in the afternoon. This time, I met an old lady and she checked for my mails again. She found like dozens of mails for my apartment, and said sorry for not letting us know the mailboxes were broken. She told me that they gonna fix them soon. Believe all the bad reviews for Davis post offices. Everytime, I drop my packages off at the UPS store since it's actually more safe than the actual post office. Basically, they delivered two of my packages over Winter Break and left them in the street when I had a mailbox that would fit those packages in it. I spent three weeks calling the customer service, filing a criminal report with the US National Service, and arguing with Paypal, Ebay, and my credit card company for my money back. I went there and I was suppose to call the person between the hours of 8AM-9AM the next day and I called them and no one picked up. Then, I went back and this guy told me that the person would call me the next day from 8AM-9AM. I was up the next day at 8AM since I have my textile statistics/computing testing class at 9AM. No one called :( Then, I had to go back to file an insurance claim form which someone should've told me on the first visit. Keep in mind, that I don't drive and had to take the A line back and forth from campus. After that, being fed up with the post office, I just filed a claim with Ebay and my credit card company and got it taken care of. If you ever need to use this post office, I would expect a 30min-1 hour wait. This place operates at a slow speed unlike SF, LA, or NYC and it's great if you work here, but if you're a customer you're stuck with a long wait time. read more

Absolute worst service ever. I spent a week trying to recover a package that no one could find because the carrier kept running me in circles and changing his story on where it was. I went into the store twice after they told me they had my package, and each time no one could seem to find it. They kept promising to call me, and never did. Eventually someone found it for me and it had been there the whole time (but no one actually put in the effort to look). Each time I spoke with someone on the phone, they were not helpful and rude. Also, the lines are crazy long because they never have enough people working or they're just moving slowly. **As a note, their phone number is listed incorrectly on their website and above. The correct number is: 530-753-3546. Also, they have a package pickup door inside that you can visit outside of the normal hours they're open, something I wish someone had told me sooner. read more

I LOVE the Davis USPS office on 5th and Pole Line. Every time I go in there's always a line of about 20 people and I think, maybe I should just do the self-service? I've done it a few times but I often just go through to the teller to make sure everything is done right (I'd rather it be their fault than mine! ha!). Somehow, I am shocked each time by how quick they are! This most recent time I went in, there had to be at least 15 people ahead of me. I don't think I waited in line more than ten minutes- I couldn't even stand in one place long enough to check my phone! I've been enough times to recognize the employees and I truly believe it is their knowledge and expertise that make this branch such a great one to go to. I love FedEx for shipments and everything, but the USPS consistently has the best rates and is extremely easy to use. It's pretty much the best ever. I have always had a solid experience at this post office. Maybe it's because the downtown Davis location is so crappy. On busy times, they have someone checking people in the line to make sure you are prepared to get served. I have been helped by Scott many times, and I can honestly say that he is a genuinely good guy. Very down to earth and willing to go the extra mile for you. He will make sure your package is shipped for the best price and always try and crack a good natured joke. Recently I've been here about 3 times a week, shipping stuff out. Don't come on your lunch hour--the lines are long. Don't come at 5:00--the lines are long and it's hard to make a right turn onto Pole Line (cars are backed up over the hill). If you come in between those times, you may find that the workers are very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge with you, thus saving you stress and money.
