There are two security guards by the door to check you in and make sure you're not carrying anything dangerous. You check in and get a ticket with a number on it like the DMV and wait to be called. Even though I have an appointment I wasn't called until almost 15 mins after my appointment time. The person that helped process my paperwork was nice and quick! Regina is the best worker at this facility. Everyone else here had a bad attitude and made the experience uncomfortable. If Regina were not here, I would never come back. The first lady who did my fingerprints deliberately messed them up. She knew the fingerprints were done poorly and told me that if it became an issue, I would have to reschedule. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened--we had to come back because the fingerprints were taken very badly. Thankfully, when we returned, we asked for Regina, and she truly went above and beyond. She handled everything professionally, fixed the issue, and was kind, calm, and helpful throughout the process. She is truly the sunlight in a very moody and unpleasant place. There are three other workers here, and all of them had attitudes that made the experience stressful. Thank God Regina is here, and I sincerely hope she stays as long as I, my kids, and anyone else we know need to use this facility--because we will always ask for Regina. If management is hiring, please hire people with good attitudes who actually care about doing their jobs correctly and not messing things up for others. read more

This review is for the actual appt in Sacto, not any of the many calls to the 800 number. I had previously applied for my Soc Sec benefits back in Oct 2024, however, I still hadn't started receiving my checks. I tried calling 1-800-772-1213 several times. Sometimes I would be on hold for 2 hours only for the system to drop the call once they closed for the day. I finally figured out that I could just leave my cell number for them to call me back, rather then waiting on hold. Once I finally got through to an actual person, I was told that I needed to contact my local Soc Sec office in Sacto. I called 1-866-726-8136 and set up an appt to come in to show them my ID. I confirmed my appt the day before, and received a text the day of my appt, which said to check in on my phone once I arrived onsite. We arrived about 10 mins early, did my check in on my phone, which gave me a 4 digit ID. The office itself was located in a strip mall. It was rather small, nothing like what I had imagined. There was a security guard at the front door checking bags. There were only about 5-6 people in the waiting area, and about 6 others sitting at the various windows they had. We were probably only waiting for about 10 mins when my # was called. Miranda was the sweet young lady that helped me. I pulled out both my CDL & Soc Sec card and slipped them through the small opening in the Plexiglas window. Miranda was pleasantly surprised to see that I was well prepared. I explained to her that I was still trying to get my Soc Sec benefits approved. She took a copy of my ID, and said it will probably take another 2 weeks before their records would be updated, and she said we can call her directly if I have any further questions. read more

Here's what's going to happen. You're going to try to call the one 800 number and get a recording that says that even though it's 8:30 in the morning it's more than a two hour wait. Then you're going to take your friends advice and call your local office after a 10 minute Google search to find the local number which is not easy to find. Once you call the local number you will spend 20 minutes on hold patiently waiting for someone to answer the phone. After waiting for 20 minutes, the phone will ring and you will think that your phone call is about to get answered but instead you'll get a recording saying that they are busy at this time and to call back another time and the line will go dead. I arrived at 3:08, checked in at the kiosk, received a number, 30 minutes later they called my number up to a window in the lobby basically to put me in line to talk to somebody who can actually help me. 30 more minutes later I was called back to talk more privately at a window with a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful person. I was finished just 10 min later. I appreciated the knowledgeable information. It's not the workers fault that the government has such an efficient methods for helping people. I would give a two star for lack of adequate staffing and efficiency having to wait so long to ask a few questions but I feel the workers deserve five stars for being friendly, patient and especially knowledgeable. Be prepared with your spouses Social Security number written on a piece of paper so you can pass that to the person when you are in the public lobby where everyone can hear you when they ask for your spouses Social Security number. Best to make an appointment online ahead of time. Outside of the building there is a line for appointments and a line for non-appointments. The guards will check your bags and give you all of the instructions. The wonderful officers working on March 18 at 9 AM were so kind and made sure I understood everything. Don't get confused, suite 1000 is for social security i believe and suite 100 is for biometrics and fingerprints. I was in and out and under five minutes. I went to the West Sac Social Security office location. Before heading over to the SS office, I did my homework, went online and also called ahead of time to make sure I have the correct paperwork and supporting documents and if appointments only. The agent said that appointment is preferred, but walk-ins are also available. I'm sure in the future this requirement will change, so always check ahead. You can read the rest of my review, but overall, I was very impressed from the time I arrived till the end. I was there for one hour for my visit, yours may take longer due to your issues and how prepared you are. Here's my honest opinion of my visit to this location: I didn't have any issues finding it from Google maps. I arrived at 11am and there was ample parking. I was greeted by 2 security officers, one asked me what I was there for. I explained my visit to the officer, and he was very helpful, showed me how to sign in on the automated kiosk, i got my number, and took a seat and waited to be called. They had masks, hand sanitizers, pens and clipboard for use, I brought all my own supplies, like I said, be prepared. Your mother doesn't work there. There were plenty of folks already at the waiting room, so I looked at my number, and saw the numbers on the teleprompter and anticipated some time for my number to be called. In addition to the teleprompter, there's also an automated voice that will call out the numbers. While waiting, the cubicles are not private, so the agents and customers can be seen and heard right at the waiting room. You can overhear other people's business, but nothing that poses identity theft since most of the customers conversations are more complaints of what they're having issues with, etc. I am sure there is a good backstory to these peoples conundrum, but ultimately if you don't have your sh*t together and ill prepared, you are gonna waste time explaining your reasons to the staff who is just there to make sure to get you some help and then hopefully move on to the next person, but now everybody knows your business and has to listen to your drama, but however good your story, without prope documents, it stops there, come back when you're ready. So enough with the jibber jabber and let the agent do his/her job already, with someone else. My number was called in around 45 minutes mark. The SS agent who helped me was very polite, knowledgeable, efficient, and I was able to correct a personal info in no time. I brought in all recommended documents from their online site and also on what was noted on the form, I brought other documents just to be sure (for those who are not "adults" - bring certified and or original copies, none of that photocopy bs, you're going to waste your time and everybody else). So to sum it all up, we all dread having to go in any governmental office, and I'm not saying that every government staff will be the same as the young lady who helped me, I know I had my fair share of the stereotypical snooty government worker, where you just want to punch something or pull somebody's hair out, but my experience with this office was the best ever, absolutely the epitome of great customer service! I just really want to thank the SS officers and staff, I know most people already have the negative attitude when they visit, because of past experiences, but I really appreciate all that you do. read more

I needed to get a replacement social security card. When logged into "My Social Security" it said I should be able to request a replacement online but when I tried to it said I had to go to an office and gave me the address of this office. I called this office to find out what I needed to bring as proof. My call was answered within a minute and I was told to just bring my driver's license but that I could do it online. I explained it wouldn't let me. He asked a number of questions that would have explained the problem, such as was I born outside of the US (nope) or not a US citizen (again nope) He couldn't explain it but said that right at that time the office was pretty empty. I headed right out but hit some traffic. By the time I got there the waiting room was pretty full. I was also a little confused what to do as there was a desk right at the door but no one sitting at it. I asked another customer and she pointed to a kiosk by the desk facing the middle of the room. You enter your name and SSN and are issued a number. Numbers are called and you are directed to a window. Arrival to departure took only 1/2 hour. The guy at the window was really nice and we had a nice chat about my last name. BTW, the guy on the phone did warn me to try to avoid the first days of the month as the office is always packed then. read more

I went there twice and this was the friendliest, most efficient, and kindest government office of any sort I've ever been to! The first time we went was to get my fiancee a SS# and there were some complications but they didn't just say "well we can't help you". The man gave us a lot of extra information, even stuff we didn't ask that helped us not only with social security. Then we had to go again and we met with two other men, both of whom were very efficient with processing our paperwork and again gave us a lot of extra voluntary information to make our lives easier even though we didn't ask and he didn't have to tell us. I was in the West Sacramento Office. I was told that I could not apply for retirement. That they had appointments all day. It was only 10:30 in the morning. Although the lady apply and she was after me did. She was from West Sacramento. I know because I talked to her and I believe that they turned me down because I happened to go to the West Sacramento. This is a government building. You can freely go to any DMV, Postoffice, at any location. The lady said that I was not from West Sacramento and to go to the Folsem location. I give ZERO stars. Not only did social security drop my mom from her Medicare without any explanation! Leaving her to pay for her cancer pills which cost $300 per pill! They also dropped her social security payments down to $150 for the whole month! They don't know what's happening and this has been going on for six months! They also sent her over $1000 but don't know why they sent that to her! And nobody can help her! Social security tells her they don't know what happen so they cannot reinstate her! I have dealt sucessfully and agreeably with Wes Sac Social Security Administration Office in prior years but that was not the case recently. After the usual long phone wait to talk to an agent/employee I asked to verify that a certain form would be sent upon my request and to confirm the number and name of that form. The employee did not recognize my social security number nor my husband's social security number which is impossible because I am in the system under those numbers and names and in fact receive retirement benefits which I told the employee. Then he would not discuss getting the form I needed because he couldn't identify me by the social security numbers I gave to him. The information he eventually gave to me about the form, I later discovered, was entirely false either a direct lie or simply as a passive aggressive misdirected game to frustrate my efforts to access the program I called to inquire about. He referred me to Medicare administration gaving me the toll phone number which I asked him to repeat to me twice. The number, which I called after I hung up with him, was an adults chat line! The social security employee must be out of his mind to use his phone agent job as a means to play games with a public cold call asking for assistance from social security. Can you imagine? They only give their first names when they answer the public access main phone number so I can not direct a complaint about him directly with social security administration. ( You will be given the first and last name of any person who is handling the process with you if you are requesting benefits, which requires certified documents and other validation of identity etc. and usually can not be completed in one visit, phone call or online occasion.) Later I called two CA state agencies that have a tangential connection to the social security administration program I need. I got the detailed information about the not- well-known-form and the program, and was given identical and accurate information from both sources. I did online research for myself before the initial call to the local branch of social security administration, but only some of the information I need was available. It is honestly quite confusing to get exact information only from general FAQs pages. There are times when you need to talk to social security administration directly.
