Have you ever watched MTV's show Boiling Point? If not, it's a show that is kind of like a Candid Camera of sorts. They try to piss people off in a certain amount of time. I always think they must be filming this show when I visit this Post Office. By far, this is probably one of the worst Chicago Post Offices EVER!! The employees move in slow motion. They are very rude, and can't even speak properly. They all act like they just got the job 20 minutes ago and everything is brand new to them. Also, everything that happens at this post office is your fault. They aren't afraid to tell you either. I have seen many examples of this the dozen or so times I have walked into this location. Tonight there was another and I promised myself I would never step foot in there again. After waiting in line tonight for 40 minutes to mail 1 package, and for the record there were only 4 people in front of me. I was already at my boiling point. The poor girl in front of me, now was at the counter and she was being berated by the not so friendly employee Nancy because she was paying with cash and didn't have the exact change. Nancy started yelling at her about it. this went on for 5 long minutes. Finally I reached into my wallet and basically dumped all the change I had on the counter so Nancy could keep the line moving. She didn't move any faster, instead Nancy decided to yell at the customer more for not saying thank you to me!!! Are you kidding me? Dear Nancy, get another job that doesn't involve communicating with the human race. Yours Truly, The girl who reached her boiling point today. read more

If ZERO STARS was an option... My review is based on which will hopefully be my last visit (ever) to this particular USPS branch. Granted, it's apparent by the less than stellar reviews, that this USPS location has a horrid reputation. In fact, the Gov't has actually sent out surveys recently and asked for input from the neighborhood residents as to the numerous reported complaints. Unfortunately upon this past visit, I had to return merchandise that had a pre-paid label good only @ the USPS. Uggghhh, long lines, and anything less than expeditious service awaits:( After waiting in line for approximately 20 minutes, my experience is as follows as I was second in line: Unfriendly African American employee with fluorescent yellow hair: Honey, you cants use thats tape on yourz package. ME: Well, why not? Unfriendly African American employee with fluorescent yellow hair: Youz gotsa uze ours priority tape, or clearz tapes. ME: Uh, well I have a pre-paid label, and masking tape was all I had. *The shelves, as usual, were empty with no courtesy tape for the customers Unfriendly African American employee with fluorescent yellow hair: Wellz, you need to takes thats off, so we can puts some clearz tapes on thats package ME: {Look of disgust on my face, as this is NOT a requirement of mailing a PRE-PAID package with the USPS} Unfriendly African American employee with fluorescent yellow hair: {Hand on hips with what I interpreted as a don't smart off to me boy, look on her face} ME: Ok, can I have some "clear" or "priority" tape? {I followed her instructions and started to tear off the tape that was on my package.} Unfriendly African American employee with fluorescent yellow hair: Wez all outs of that hunz. It's my opinion, that she was just too lazy, and didn't want to deal with the long lines of customers. Unfortunately, I have seen this display of "screw the customer" demeanor on several occasions, from EVERY employee that I've encountered here. Not to mention, I've witnessed the employees using profanity directed towards the customers. Oh, how professional?!? I walked out, and took my package over to the Ashland location, where they taped my box, and offered excellent customer service, with zero attitude. AVOID THE LAWRENCE BRANCH OF LAZINESS AT ALL COSTS! read more

Once again, I am reminded that I'm glad that I no longer live in 60625. It was fine when we had Irving as our mail carrier, but when he retired, it all went downhill. Getting one's mail on time does matter. I was at a community meeting some years ago when I lived in 60625, and a couple of people stated that not receiving their mail caused them to be late in paying some bills. Yes, they were older people who did not use the internet for bill payment, but they should not be penalized for choosing to use what should be a reliable mail service. I have always been respectful as a customer at this location, but have not always received the same courtesy in return. Something as simple as using a respectful tone of voice, rather than a "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?" attitude would be helpful. The better employees try, but some are just incompetent. Other locations are not like this, so I put it down to the local manager. My new post office and mail carrier do a great job. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever been to. This morning I stood in line for an hour watching two of the three employees gossip about a late employee while the middle person was the only one taking customers. They were blatantly talking about how unprofessional and argumentative the other staff members are, all in clear earshot of the customers. The woman in front of me asked the two chatty employees if one of them could assist her, and they said no because it was their break time and that their replacements were just late showing up, so they were just sitting there waiting to leave. I was disgusted by the laughable customer service. I watched as the middle employee gave attitude to several customers on how they filled out paperwork incorrectly, and she kept sending these customers out of line to do the paperwork over and over again. Yet, she was not giving them guidance on how to complete it correctly. I was just there to drop off a package with a pre-paid slip, and I needed a receipt otherwise I would have walked out. read more

The truth is that these people are training to represent the United States at the Slow Olympics. The best and the slowest come from nationwide in order to practice gold medal quality displays in Apathy, Disdain and Sloth-like Movements. I'd suggest bringing in a lawn chair, cooler of refreshments and binoculars in order to take part of the spectacle that is people showing how little of an eff they give. That is, if you can catch them before they go on break. read more

Great. Now I don't even need to set foot in this shitty, fucky place to be impacted by their craptitude. Now the mail carriers that issue forth from this pit are bringing their special brand of horror to the outer world. For the past month or so (possibly longer, as I was away for 5 weeks before that) my mail has consistently arrived all crumpled or crushed. I loved the previous delivery person, Ruby. Not only was she efficient, she was just a lovely person. Her replacements have all been utterly useless. I can't believe that such lousy 'service' can exist in a country that's not experiencing simultaneous famine, drought, war, pestilence, floods, fire, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, hail, hurricanes, typhoons, killer monkeys, cyclones, earthquakes, plague... It just doesn't seem possible. Hang on, I just noticed that the overall rating for this shitpit is 1+ stars. HUH??? There's someone out there who actually gave it more than 1 lousy star?!? IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM POSSIBLE. read more

Today I HAD to go back in this hell-hole. I had an international package, but all I had was a domestic mailer, so I waited in line because I needed further instruction on how to label it, etc. So, I stood in line. There were two people working. The one lady that has always been sweet was busy with a foreign family taking care of a passport issue, I knew I was out of luck with her. I had to wait for the lady who works in the far left booth, that had already been horrible to my husband. (Think happy thoughts, I told myself). First of all, the gal who was right before me and her had a five minute chat after her transaction, even though she was the only available teller and there was a line of 20 people. When it was finally my turn, I walked up with a smile on my face and asked "I only had a domestic mailer, do you have an International one?". She looked at it briefly said "you don't need one" - even though my mailer clearly said "domestic use ONLY". She then told me to do one thing, when that didn't make sense I asked her if she had a sticker i was supposed to put on the mailer and she yells "YOU DON'T HAVE THE ADDRESS?". Iwas like I have the address on my own sticker, I didn't want to put it in the way of something you needed to put on there, like the green customs tag I filled out - she starts yelling at me that "YOU HEARD ME PROPERLY. YOU'RE JUST BEING ARROGANT!" WHAT? I think to myself - "I'm unable to understand your Mumbles McGee speech with your head looking towards the floor - and I'M the jerk?" She walks out of the room. Just leaves. I stand there. Waiting. The 20 people behind me glare into my back for incensing the BEAST and making their wait even longer. She comes back and doesn't look at me and just starts typing stuff into her computer. She tells me the total "$13.98" and I lay my debit card on her machine. She Mumbles McGee's something else and I said "pardon me?". She just glares at me with all her might. So, she won't say anything, she won't take my card and I'm at a loss. I start over. "I heard you say $13.98, I then laid my debit card down, then you said something I couldn't make out and I asked you what you said?". She just glares at me I said "you said $13.98, i handed you my card, you said something else and I couldn't understand you." She starts off again "I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE HAVING A BAD DAY YOU DON'T BE COMING IN HERE TAKING IT OUT ON ME! YOU HEARD EXACTLY WHAT I SAID AND YOU'RE BEING ARROGANT TO ME!" WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? "I TOLD YOU TO GIVE ME YOUR ID!!" Was that so hard? She picks up my id and starts yelling "Miss REGAL or WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS, I WALKED ALL THE WAY BACK THERE SO I WOULDN'T YELL AT YOU AND YOU JUST WANT TO BE STARTING UP WITH ME AGAIN." I told her I was not having a bad day until I came in here. But, then, she seems to be having a bad day everyday. I told her I had seen the way she treated people in the past. Her response was "YOU AIN'T NEVER SEEN ME BEFORE!" Uh, yeah, I have. You and the tiny, mean woman are the reason I don't come in here anymore. How hysterical, after coming in there for 11 years she couldn't pick me out of a line up of 20 girls that look like me, but put her in a crowd of 100 and I could pick her out in about 5 seconds. Evil stands out. Evil, thine name is Nancy. read more

A 1 star rating is far too generous. The rating should a negative number that steadily gets worse. Here's a nice little tidbit: Chicago was recently rated as being the worst city in the US for postal delivery. No Joke: Ravenswood Post Office is the worst in the city. So some quick applied logic tells us that this is LITERALLY the WORST post office in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES!! I could fill a couple pages with ranting about this place, but here's the long & short of it: everything you've heard or read in these reviews is true. Mail (if it actually shows up at all & isn't thrown away) arrives damaged or burnt (yes burnt). Cards have been opened in hopes of cash included within. Wait times include an hour + , and usually despite there being multiple "workers" there, there is only one person actually "waiting" on people. I use the term "waiting" loosely. It's really more like attitude-fest. The counter workers are the laziest, surliest people you'll ever have the misfortune of meeting. They're like goddamn Patty & Selma from the Simpsons, but a thousand times worse. DO NOT let them jerk your chain with their red tape - you'll have to struggle to get anywhere with these idiots, but don't back down. If this were not a government agency where incompetence is not only tolerated but seemingly rewarded but rather a small business, it would have gone belly up years ago. My deepest and sincerest regrets and condolences go out to everyone else in my neighborhood who is forced to use this Hell's Waiting Room incarnate here on earth. All I can say is I share your pain. I HATE this post office and firmly believe there should be a sign out front reading: "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here". If you are not forced to use this branch, run away!! read more

Now I've lived in NYC so I know a thing or two about long Post Office lines...and this one is by far the worst-est! I cringe every time I have to go here to pick up a missed package; definitely THE biggest pitfall of living in 60625 and ordering things online. There is ALWAYS a line, it is ALWAYS long, and ALWAYS moves slow. I know postal employees aren't known for being friendly (it's called going 'postal' for a reason), but these are the most non-caring ones I've come across. If you need to do ANYTHING other than pick up a missed package, I suggest using the 60618 Post Office hub on Montrose. The lady there is uber-friendly and there's almost NEVER a line (wait- why am I telling all of you this?!??). If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. I'll attribute the one star to the asian lady who works there; she's a bit of an oddball and just as slow as the rest of the staff, but she's also very nice. read more

The Lawrence branch is like some horrendous comedy skit about the worst post office ever. I can't say that I have ever been ANYWHERE that has exhibited this low level of service. You'd be better staffing the counter with surly teenagers. At least they'd do a little work. Latest incident (and last -- I've tried this post office 3 times): The automated machine is STILL unable to print small postage since the last time I tried at this branch 3 weeks ago. So I am forced into the line - UGH. 9 people deep. Angry hostile lady at far right (as always), and the poor slow as molasses 90 year old asian woman at one of the other counters. I start the clock. 10 minutes later, one person mailing one domestic package is still being helped by slow-poke, and angry hostile lady has spent the last 10 minutes sprucing up her space. Unbelievable. 15 minutes in, SAME thing. Line is now 15 people long, and I give up and shout out "excuse me, can another line be opened?" -- just because I can. Not even a glance up. Hilarious. At least the line got to talking after that about their struggles. No need to stay silent folks. You are going to get treated like sh*t no matter WHAT you do in that place. So I drove to Broadway, and was in/out the door in 10 minutes. USPS, retire out the people there (since clearly they are incapable of being fired), and introduce a few people that actually don't hate everything about themselves and the job. read more

If you think your day just can't get any worse, and you want to prove yourself wrong, trek on over to this postal station, and have the customer experience from Hell. I can't say you'll be glad you did, but you'll know that your day really wasn't as bad as you thought it was, until you went to what may be the worst Post Office on the north side of Chicago. I try to avoid this place about as much as I would the bubonic plague, maybe even more. When I had to drop off a package, the Drop-Off Box was rendered unusable, forcing me to go into Ground Zero. When you use the USPS online Click-n-Ship, you must click and go through the Hazmat affidavit or your postage won't print; therefore by definition, any Click-n-Ship label printed means that the customer has done the Hazmat questionnaire. It's probably even more valid this way, since you are using your credit card that is tied to your personal identity, versus going to the Post Office and anonymously sending a package. All the other Post Offices I've dealt with let you drop off your prepaids rather than clog up the lines, in the rare event that the box isn't working or they don't have one. Since they disabled the Drop-Off box, I went to an empty window and dropped off my package. Suddenly one of the "ladies" screetches out, "OH NO, ON NO, YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE THAT HERE!!!!!" I turn around and let her know it was a Click-n-Ship. She responds by screetching again, "OH NOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE THAT, YOU NEED TO DO THE HAZMAT THING!!!" Since I didn't want the package to mysteriously fall into a corner and never be seen again, I had to stand there and humor her (read: baby sit) while she read very loudly and slowly, the same affidavit I already digitally signed, while everyone in the line that snaked back to the front door had to wait. And that was my most positive experience at that station. The key to surviving there is to say as little as possible, and never, never do anything until they give you permission to. Don't try to swipe your credit card right away, to save time, or you will be yelled at. Let them do the talking first. And if you're feeling particularly aggravated, remind yourself that at least you don't have to live with them. read more

This is not just the worst post office in the city, it may well be the worst business in the city. I haven't patronized every business in the city, so I can't say definitvely, but I'd place a hefty wager on it. Here are a few highlights: -- I brought in the save-the-dates for my wedding--about 40 postcards. I waited over 30 minutes & when I get to the counter, they wouldn't put it through metered mail or hand stamp it. You know, their JOB. They WOULD sell me the only stamps they had in the correct denomination: Simpsons. Exactly what I want on my nice postcards. -- I waited FORTY-FIVE minutes to find the ONLY person who could handle the passport application never showed up to work. They could have put up a sign or something! -- My husband was commissioned to do a drawing for someone in Canada for Christmas. He brought the package, in a shipping tube, to the post office about a week before Christmas. The weighed it, got the address, made the label & determined postage. When the package was returned as undeliverable to Canada on 12/23, they refused to refund the $25 cost even though they had determined the postage themselves. We tried there & over the phone. --Today, I walk in to send a package cuz we don't have time to go to FedEx, and there are 2 employees & 17 people in line at 10:30 in the morning. Curse my husband for putting stamps on the package (anything over 13 ounces has to be handed to an agent). This lazy, awful employees who work there are sitting on their asses just waiting to collect their government pensions. We try to use the post office as little as possible. All our bills are paid online, and my husband uses FedEx for pretty much all his shipping. I've been in this hood 5 years, and all I can say is I really miss the Logan Square post office. I feel like printing out all the reviews and wallpapering the outside of the building with them so they realize how worthless we all think they are. read more

I've never met so many people so absolutely miserable at work and so absolutely determined to make their clients that way too. If ever there was a reason to privatize all postal service, this would be it. If you see even a medium sized line up, that means up to a two hour wait. I don't know why the line moves so slow... maybe its the trash scattered all over the place, or maybe its because the AC makes the temperature somewhere around absolute zero. Or maybe its because employees flat out just leave in the middle of servicing customers and go home. read more

Y'know. I never knew I could loathe a building and a staff more than I could loathe these people. How many complaints do you suppose this place gets? Well no matter, because I actually filed one with the USPS today over these a-holes. Picture it. Chicago. 2012. A beautiful summer day, warm and inviting. I set out early (Because I know how much this place sucks worse than slamming your nipples in a fireproof door) so I'd have time to get to work. The situation was, our buzzer is broken at my apartment. I found that out when I found a badly scrawled note on my door barely explaining the situation (But luckily I'm sorta Sherlocky so I came to my own conclusions pretty fast) and called up the 1-800 number. Their suggestion eventually was to simply call my building manager (In progress, another story) and go pick up my mail there. Getting there, you walk in and feel like you're in hell. Everyone has that same look on their face, the look of a lamb being lead to the slaughter, or the one or two really masochistic fools who still go there. I unfortunately have to, they're the ones that deliver my mail and that's where I found out my mail was being held. After explaining the situation (And bringing the piece of paper like I was told to do on the phone) I was first of all yelled at for taking the paper off the door (Hey I get I should leave it on the door, but did you need to yell?) after she gets a manager, clearly not wanting to deal with me. I have barely said crap at this point, folks. Soon a manager comes out, and I'd give anything to remember his name. He was the rudest most unhelpful human being I've ever met in my life. People here don't just hate their job, they seem to hate actual other people and for the life of me, if I acted a fraction of how they act, I'd be fired on the spot from ANYWHERE I've worked. Basically, I was told they couldn't give me my mail (...by the way, i called today? Guess what folks, if they give you that, it's bull. They can't just keep your mail if they're holding it) even after I asked him why not (he refused to answer) and then he had the nerve to try and talk me into renting a PO box instead. UHM. NO I AM NOT GIVING YOU MY MONEY. Infuriated, I eventually just told him I'd work it out on my end, since clearly they were not going to help me out at all, and I left. I've never been so insulted or treated so badly in my life, and believe me, I've been to some pretty rude places of business in my time, but this one? Is the worst. It's worth going out of your way to NEVER have to darken the door of this facility. It's worth me moving somewhere more expensive in the city so I never have to deal with this piece of crap again. read more

This is the worst post office in the history of post officedom. What, I ask you in a rhetorical fashion, is the purpose of a post office? 1 - To deliver the correct mail to the correct address in a timely manner. Does this post office succeed? While I have enjoyed a healthy 85% success rate in receiving mail addressed to me, not a week goes by that at least one misfiled letter goes atop my apartment building's mail boxes. I tremble in fear that my bills go awry. Though I do appreciate the occasional issue of The Economist that finds its way to me, nevermind the actual recipient lives several blocks west. 2 - Smiling, at least semi-efficient service when I must mail something larger than 13oz. While the clerks are typically friendly(ish), they are so slow that it might make more sense to put your package down outside the building and let continental drift take care of the delivery. One fine day, I was the very next person in line... for 20 full minutes. MOVE IT. 3 - Mailing and packaging materials easily available for purchase. God in his/her/its heaven help you if you want to buy or use one of the flat fee boxes. Not only must you wait in the aforementioned eternal line, you must know AND communicate to the clerk which size you want. You may have to communicate this more than once. 4 - Easy pick up of packages Oh, there is a pick-up window. Not that there's ever anyone there. Unless you have no other choice, do yourself a favor and avoid this post office like it is ground zero for avian bubonic syphilitic swine sars. And spare a pitying thought for those of us whose mail goes through here. read more

I get a ticket in my mailbox telling me to go to the Post Office and pick up a package. I go. I wait in line. I give the little old man my ID and the ticket and he shuffles off. A few minutes later he shuffles (this man was a downright shuffler, tiny little feet, baby steps, stooped over...) out of his little room and into the back of the post office. I see him through the door aimlessly shuffling back and forth for ten more minutes and then he comes back with my package. This was the best experience I had at this Post Office. It was all downhill from there. If you live in the 60625 area code, move. read more

Like another reviewer I saw here, I actually signed up for Yelp this evening for the expressed purpose of writing this review. I'll boil it down to this: 1. Package took 11 days to deliver from outside Philadelphia to Chicago. 2. Line was over 25 minutes long. 3. They could not find my package in the back room for 15-20 minutes (it was misfiled). 4. The older woman in the booth third from the right (African American, hair slightly above her shoulders, glasses) accused me of "cussing her out" and telling her to "shut up". I came into the office determined to not lose my cool or raise my voice. After a long wait, I decided that I was done working with the counter staff and asked politely and repeatedly to speak with a supervisor about my missing package. Apparently this was "cussing her out". I admit to losing my cool as she loudly complained about how rude I was by saying "do your job so I can go" (I admit that I was wrong to say that). She then said that I told her to "shut up". I don't think I've told anyone to "shut up" since junior high. At this point, I was a little frightened, to be honest. If she imagined that I was swearing and telling her to shut up, who knows what else she could falsely accuse me of. I hightailed it out of there before she tried to accuse me of stealing the Lindbergh baby. The supervisor who spoke to me for 5 seconds after finding my package was polite, however. Still, he would have had to wash my feet in order to get this location a second star. Reading these reviews made me feel better in a sense ... not sure how many different ways there are to say "I wish I could give 0 stars". Ridiculous that a stinkin' post office can generate such a response. I'm considering making a formal complaint, although I'll probably just go have dessert instead. From the looks of this Yelp thread, doesn't look like Big Mail really cares too much about the problems here. I refuse to believe that with 9 percent unemployment, there aren't more decent people who could do these jobs. read more

How do I give them a ZERO rating?! Call 1-800-ASK-USPS and register a complaint! (see below) The only person working the counter was rude and abusive to every single customer. I mean every customer! More than once she even refused to take larger denominations of cash! The US Postal System won't take cash? If you think this is the most disorganized, filthy, poorly ran and unprofessionally staffed post office that you have ever encountered... YELP about it but more importantly, call customer service and REGISTER a COMPLAINT: Call: 1-800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) When the system prompts for English/Spanish: Press 6 Press 4 Say "Register a Complaint" Tell the customer service representative the zip code of the post office is 60625. Confirm it is: RAVENSWOOD - 2522 W LAWRENCE They will ask for contact information and then will provide a confirmation number. A representative will call you back - provide details, names, dates, etc. If enough people register a complaint maybe they will close it down, remodel (it so desperately needs a refresh) and reopen with new management and a friendly, happy and helpful staff. read more

I'm no longer getting packages again. After letting them know every way I could, from signs, to filling out their little card, to writing them personally, they will no longer deliver packages (that don't require signature) to me. If I leave the card saying to do so, they just ignore it. The Ravenswood employees are only alive because breathing is a reflex. If it was something they had to make some conscious effort to keep doing they would have withered away long ago either because they're too stupid to figure it out, or too lazy to care. read more

I actually didn't use the service. Here's why: I walked into the door and intended to mail out my naturalization application but left the place confused and went to Fedex instead. I knew that if I took more time looking through the so-called "instructions," I could figure out the proper package and pricing for the service I wanted to use. Unfortunately, there was one (1) person working there and she was tied up at the service counter. Well, I guess I shall seek the plan B. That's why the private couriers still exist and thrive because governmental agencies don't seem to be too trustworthy and comprehensible to a regular gal like myself. With that being said, I couldn't rate the actual customer service and other criteria. From now on, don't think USPS as an option UNLESS you have to use it. read more

I ordinarily loathe going to the post office. You hear all the horror stories, plus, the times aren't too convenient if you work regular hours. However, when I'm faced with a card with extra postage (very worth it at times for the additional glued on decorations), or doing a non-UPS return, I don't mind coming here. There is one employee here in particular who is so nice and friendly, that it makes the experience very pleasant. When I asked if they had any "cute" stamps, she suggested flowers or Harry Potter - I like her style. If you have issues with patience, I would suggest avoiding going to the post office altogether. Coming during the weekday and not shipping anybody Christmas presents are tips that will help maintain your sanity. read more

Okay, so I haven't been here in a while, even though I live right across the street. And I remember them being slow and rude with me two years ago when I was trying to renew my passport, but at the time, I didn't see it as out of the ordinary post office sluggishness and dickitry. But after reading all these reviews...wow. I knew our post office sucked, but not this hard. I have to admit, I kind of want to go there soon just to witness this for myself. And when I go through with this rogue, post office sting operation, my precious yelpsters will be the first to know! To be continued... read more

Wow, is it awful! I'd rather have wisdom teeth pulled than to have to go here again. I went last Saturday morning to turn in my passport application. I walk in, see the passport desk, and it's empty. So I step into the regular--long--line. It's about 16 people long. Finally, I get to the front of the line, and only one of the three women working was able to process passports. So I wait for the woman to finish up with the customer in front of me. She finishes up, then she begins to walk away, to the back. Five...10...25...30...45 MINUTES goes by, and she finally returns to her little stand. Meanwhile, there were still about 12 people in line, and she just walks away! So she returns 45 minutes later, finally takes care of me (it took a whole 3 minutes, tops). Between that, and having one of the other workers make the ENTIRE line move from the left to the right because they were "on the wrong side." Uhhhh-ok. Then, the typical cop-an-attitude from the USPS workers... Awful! read more

I do have to say I don't hate the post office but this location makes it hard not to. Came in on a Saturday around 1pm and the line was almost to the door. It was a really weird thing to be waiting in a line for close to twenty some minutes and then watch it starting magically start to move. Not only is the vibe here weird but some of the clientele seem to be too. On this particular day there were two lines. One that never seemed to move, but had large families waiting in it. I figured out that that line seemed to be one for passports...I think. Oh but wait, did I mention there was a woman in line with her two small dogs in two in a jogging stroller? Uh ex-squeeze me? I expect to wait in a line at a post office, but not one that rivals the DMV! Seriously, how weird was it to be waiting for twenty minutes for no reason and then start to magically move. I have been to other postal offices who have lines, but are quite efficient enough to get customers in and out and don't need to really on their snarky employees to bring the charm to the table. Even my husband commented that it was a 'truly awful experience that will make me think twice about selling something on e-bay'. I must be a really forgiving person to give this place two stars. Because depending on the day, you may get a quirky postal employee with who is sassy enough to make you giggle, but more often than not you can always bet there will be a line. read more

This post office is terrible. In the last year they "lost" two packages, and numerous correspondence from family, accounting, friends, etc. If you go there to inquire about a package, they look at you as if you are from another planet. Awful, just plain awful. Customer service is dead and buried. read more

So far the only bright spot of my day has been reading the other horrible reviews of what might be the only post office to give the Wicker Park branch a run for it's money. You know those Comcast commercials with the turtles who prefer to live the 'slow' life? They would love this place. These women move like they're wearing molasses bikinis in a pool full of Jell-O. I think I actually saw cobwebs on someone's arm. Zing! But seriously, folks. . . I understand that these women couldn't care less about the fact that I actually do have better things to do with my time than stand in line for an HOUR. I sure don't want to make any of them break a sweat or move at anything more than a snail's pace. I mean really, it's my fault for having shipping needs in the first place. Who do I think I am, a citizen of a country which provides safe delivery of packages and letters? Go back to Russia! It must be really nice to have a job where the toughest part of your day is putting on a polyester vest. Imagine how much better your life would be if you didn't have the stress of pleasing customers and working quickly. Every day would be like a fluorescent-lit vacation! I do feel bad abut making fun of little old ladies. But then I remember that they just stole an hour of my day during which I almost tore out all of my ever-greying hair. I also think about the millions of non-government employees who actually work very hard without the promise of sweet benefits and pension plans. But of course, we don't get the vests. So I guess it's a fair trade. read more

I've had nothing but horrible experiences since I moved into this neighborhood in 2006. The front desk staff are abusive, lazy, and incompetent. They are also amazingly arrogant, considering that none of these primates could hold any other job. But, one must acknowledge their consistency. But it's not limited to package delivery or pickup. They are equally incompetent and nasty about regular mail, and passport handling. After being made to wait nearly an hour there in 2007, because the "only person capable of handling my request" was occupied...we were then told that this individual they had left the office 30 minutes into our wait. No notice, no apology, the other drone simply turned her back on us and left the front desk to the lone attendee...also ignoring the a long line behind her. We left, went to the Evanston office and were in and out within 15 minutes. Since that last fiasco, I don't get mail at my home address any more, and have all mail directed to my downtown office. Still, even when limited to packages alone, and then ONLY because the merchant uses USPS for their "free delivery" options, I am forced to waste time and money on "failed" deliveries claimed by the P.O.'s website to have been "impossible to deliver"...and without any paper documentation. Of course, it's indeed impossible when you've made no effort in the first place. Most recently, another "package could not be delivered as addressed"...but no delivery attempt ticket left behind (guess why?) Then, and despite two separate requests for redelivery, each of which was acknowledged and confirmed by e-mail, not a single effort to actually do so (I was home both days, and left details by both the online redelivery request and on a full-page note at the mailboxes on the front gate. Yet, regular deliveries by UPS on behalf of Target, Amazon, etc. seem to have no problem. I have met with the supervisor there in 2007. She was intelligent, empathetic, and equally frustrated by the fact that she couldn't fire the lot of these wastes of space. If this was a private business, they would be subject to a consumer fraud claim. In fact, I will be advising all future businesses that I will require service by UPS, and cite the many complaints about this office's blatant contempt for their customers over more than a decade. If they don't like it, they can take it up with their agent who is making them look bad...or, I can take my business elsewhere. If everyone else does this, hopefully these losers will be shut down. Every front-line worker at that location should be fired, and dumped into the street. Every.single.one. read more

Oh god, I hate this place. I feel rage welling up every time I pass it. I pride myself on being nice to people in the service industry (I'm a waitress -- it's good karma), but holy fucking christ, the employees here put me over the edge. Not only are they rude and incompetent, last time I was in there I witnessed them yelling at (and throughly humiliating) an older lady while I was waiting for a half an hour in the line. Not to mention the fact that they have lost at least three of my packages, and several, several letters since I moved here in July. In fact, I'm now on the third try for a gift I originally bought online in November, they lost the first two packages. Or perhaps just delivered it to someone else, a completely realistic possibility considering the fact that we get other peoples mail every single day. Amazingly, amazingly horrible. Edit: Make that five packages that they have lost. Mhm. read more

All my life, I've felt like I've had different experiences, different stories, than other people. My experience at the Ravenswood post office appears to fit that life-long scenario. I've used this office for maybe 10 years, and I've never had a terrible experience here. Oh sure, the lines can be long, but it's not because I've ever seen one employee fooling around. They are always working. Take today, a Tuesday, during the holiday season. I went in mid-morning to mail a package. Well, not just any package; shipping my late step-father's ashes to my sister in California. I wasn't sure the best way to ship this special package; heck, I wasn't even sure I could ship it at all. FedEx office told me they wouldn't ship ashes, and that the USPS wouldn't either. Recently, though, a funeral director told me, oh yeah, go ahead and ship them USPS. It won't be a problem. About 8 people were in line in front of me. Everyone had one or more packages. Three clerks were working, and a lady who appeared to be a supervisor was flitting around behind the counter. I waited less than 10 minutes. The clerk was helpful, efficient, and got me in and out in about 3 minutes. I also saw the same clerk exhibit kindness and concern before I got to her window. There was an elderly Asian lady in the lobby, who acted like her English wasn't the greatest. The clerk was pulling a package out for her, and she said, "Do you have somebody with you?" I realized that, from the clerk's viewpoint, it looked like the lady was using a walker. The (apparent) manager asked the clerk, is there a problem? No, said the clerk, the package is heavy and fragile. They both looked closer and saw the Asian lady was pushing a shopping cart. "I'll bring it for you," the clerk said, and she came out from behind the counter into the lobby and placed the package in the Asian lady's shopping cart. The lady smiled her thanks, and the clerk gave her a big smile and went back to her station. I don't always see such specific instances of kindness or consideration, but I've never had any problems, in lo these many years. The only time I ever saw a clerk be slightly sharp or rude was an elderly Korean man who worked there; I saw him on several occasions, and it was only once that I thought he wasn't polite. I'm not saying I get big smiles from the staff, but I've always gotten my stuff mailed or picked up. I see other people had problems applying for a passport here, but I've always gone to the federal building for that, so I can't comment on that process. There is a small, busy parking lot on the east side of the building, and that's appreciated. Would I plan to spend my spare time at this location, just for the wonderfulness of being there? No! But I've never had a bad experience. My business gets done, sometimes after waiting in a long line, but hey. I've seen more customers behave badly than I've seen clerks go nutso here. read more

I can't understand all the complaining. Does everybody hate the post office? I've been here several times to pick up held mail and to mail packages both big and small and never had a problem. Various degrees of friendliness, of course, but I always got done quickly and smoothly. Yes, sometimes there is a long wait in line. read more

It is super nice that the US government (and you and I) are giving these troglodytes a place to work. Why can't we fire them? There are lots of smart people out of work that could do a better job. Let me save you an hour - go to the UPS store. Avoid this place. A fistfight between an older postal employee and a customer almost broke out last time I was here. Also, if I want to get a priority mail shipping box or envelope, why do I have to wait in line for an hour (or suffer the scrutiny of all the wretched souls I walk past on my way to the front counter). Restock the shipping supplies once in a while. Or don't. I'm not coming back anyway. read more

Do we really have to give a star to this black hole of ineptitude and attitude? There are SO many things here that pisses me off about this post office - but my biggest gripe is that they make no attempt to really deliver packages in the first place (I work from home and they never ring the bell/knock on door), nor do they man the package pick-up window at the P.O. You MUST call in advance to let them know you're coming over and then you're given the 3rd degree as if you're some impostor who loves to suffer through 3rd world officiousness and bureaucracy. Catch them on a bad day - who can tell?- and you'll see the employees in bitter cat fights with each other. Outside the post office, my carrier is delivering the mail from the next street over to me with such frequency that I run into him as I try to deliver mail back to the right address. It's a farce but not a very funny one - worth moving to another neighborhood to avoid the experience! The button underneath my review says "Post" and the very word is enough to send me into a tantrum. OK, here goes... read more

I got a notification that my package was delivered- never got a package. I've been waiting for a month now. Kept trying to call their office and no answer. Is this post office closed? read more

Black hole of shit. A scarring experience. 12/12: Not only a shitty black hole of scarring, but a surefire way to be certain your important mail is either 1) delivered late, 2) not at all, or most awesomely 3) sent back to you in the exact condition in which you mailed it out. This place is beyond third world. read more

Every time I go here to mail anything there is like ten people in line and two VERY slow workers behind the counter. The past two times I have been here I have left out of disgust and utter madness. The Post Office on Kedzie, just south of Irving Park is much better for speed, yet the employees are just as crazy...the guy at this one was rocking out to rumpshaker on his ipod! read more

Three is always just one person working here and there are 17 people waiting in line. I am largely disappointed by this USPS store particularly due to their high inefficiency rude and mean attitude. Please avoid this store. I would just leave my line here but I have to pick up a package. read more

If I know I have to stand in line to ship out international packages I tend to develop massive stomach pains just thinking about waiting in line at this place. There is only one nice woman that works here, there was a nice guy but he left for another post office, lucky him! The only reason why I'm not giving this place 1 star is the automatic postage machine, which is typically unused. Synopsis: If you're looking to have a miserable time and are seeking scenery for the most unnerving and uncomfortable experience of your life, go to this post office. read more

You know, I've lived in a few really poor third-world countries, where the post offices are about as well-funded and well-run as a garage sale on Skid Row, where queuing is a foreign concept and mail is tied up with twine and takes about five months to arrive . . . and I can recall getting better customer service there. Maybe the whole thing is really one long, drawn out episode of Punk'd. read more
