First off there is always a long line of unhappy customers, secondly the branch manger walks around attempting to help but failing every time, third there is sometimes a stamp/money order line and sometimes there isn't (bull). Lastly the supplies are ALWAYS low or "bering delivered today". The counter staff are very knowledgeable and that is the ONLY good thing about this location. Over the summer I was trying to mail off some cookies I purchased in a different country to a friend. I paid for shipping twice just for the cookies to come back to me both times. I came in again for the third time just to see if I could get this resolved with the help of a manager. This "managers" name was Barry. I said hello and asked and told him what happened. I asked if something could be done about the shipping since essentially I paid for shipping twice and it never made its way to the final destination. Right off the bat he was stank like he felt like he shouldn't even have to talk to me. Imagine working in the service industry and being upset over having to do your job. People always act untouchable when they know that getting fired is rare which is also why it's hard to find people who actually do their job in these types of environments. Everyone is looking at us as he's loud and belligerent. At this point he's talking over me as I'm showing him my receipts when I came in multiple times and spoke to multiple USPS workers. Mind you, the second time I came in the USPS worker made the mistake of covering over the apartment number (even though I wrote the address on there twice) with the label. I wasn't aware at the moment due to the USPS worker putting the package in the pile to be mailed out. Of course it came back because of that reason. Anyway, Barry stands up on me behind the 10" thick plexiglass and says "Here's my badge and my name is Barry. Report me if you have a problem". I said, "I don't want to report you I just want you to do your job and stop being rude". Mind you he's sashaying his block head ass away after he smashed his flimsy ID on the plexiglass. I never reported him because I never said I wanted to. I was there to get help due to two common errors that happened on behalf of the USPS workers I interacted with not kick up smoke with some overpaid man baby. I actually was nicer to him than I should've been given how nasty he was to me. I should've reported it knowing how he went about the situation was wrong. If you can't handle your temper then maybe you should retire. There's an older Black man who works the windows at this location. He's always sweet and that's a rare trait at the post office. He's the only person I enjoy interacting with. It's funny too because I've shipped things in different countries and I've never experienced the things I do at USPS. This is an odd place. read more

I cannot stop myself to tell our disaster experience at this USPS office. We went to this office today to send out some business flyers. We were at window of an Asian lady with long hair. She first looked at our flyers and was like "hell you have this much". Then she told the lady next to her "I hate this type of job". She talked so loud that we also heard her speech. This made us upset. We also deliver flyer through other post office and we never have this kind of comments. We paid USPS to deliver. We were customer and now we felt that being insulted. Ok. I guess in a country of freedom speech, she could express her option. But then what happened made us totally disgusting. The lady only counted first 5 or 6 bundles of our flyers then start to throw these into bin!! LIKE throwing garbage! We spent whole night to count bundles and each flyer. She just paid no respect to as. Following was the conversation: Me: we have 50 bundles Lady: no only 47 Me: you just throw all into bin how could you know clearly L: damn heavy I did not want to count again. While in Brooklyn recently, I visited the Cadman Plaza Post Office. As a former Brooklynite, I am very familiar with this Post Office and am glad that they offer extended hours. I went to the post office prior to 8:00 a.m. and it was great to have that option. The staff was friendly and I was able to get in and out quickly (probably because I was there so early), but it was an overall pleasant experience. read more

I believe someone at this post office must either be stealing or throwing out mail. I haven't been receiving mail for over a month. I've called every morning at 2 different times for over 2 weeks and finally I got through this morning only to be told they are delivering the mail they get. Obviously they are not and something fishy is going on here. I've spoken to vendors directly and checked my address with them and it is correct. I haven't received a single piece of mail in over a month and they not only don't seem to care, they also don't pick up their phones, respond to messages or anything! If you move to within the zipcodes served by this office you would probably be better off having your mailed delivered to your job or having it delivered to a almost anywhere else if you expect to receive it. I am at a loss as to what to do and have reach out to the main USPS office again since this mail carrier is so incompetent. read more

My wife and I went to the Cadman Plaza post office today to renew our minor son's passport. When we got to the window to submit the paperwork, we were informed that we were missing our son's birth certificate, the only way to ascertain that we were his parents. Andre Berry, the supervisor, overheard our predicament and told us that he would hold our place in line so that when we returned with the birth certificate we would not have to stand in line all over again. Sure enough, when we returned two hours later he moved us to the front of the line. Mr. Berry has a great disposition and made the process pleasant. This is a man who loves being around people and his job. He is one of USPS's unsung heroes. read more

OMG. SO SLOWWWW. I can't say that I have experienced anything else but slow service. The lines are incredibly long in the morning and you have old ladies with their rollers chatting up a storm with the tellers. Excuse me ya old hag, but shut the hell up and move along! Went here to get passport renewed in person because I didn't have any other choice. I actually had to come twice and I still wasn't able to submit the needed documents to the clerk because of her refusal to take them. I tried to be as patient as I could understanding that nobody wants to be there any longer than they have to be but one of the two clerks was sitting on her ass completely ignoring the crowd that were waiting to be called. I never expected smiling faces and great customer service at a Post Office, but this place is the pits. Employees are very rude. The line is never less than 20 minutes at any time of day. I've lost track of the number of times I went to check my PO Box before 9:40, only to find that area closed off (it's supposed to be available until 10PM). And items that can easily fit in my box are given a callback slip, making me return during their relatively limited operating hours to spend 30 minutes or more waiting for them to retrieve it. Usually I read these 'fuck the usps' reviews and find them way overblown. I don't need customer service providers to be friendly, they just need to get the job done and not be rude. This, however, is the first office where I had to get online immediately just to make sure it wasn't me. Because this is the first time that I've ever felt like a window agent was actually trying to provoke me. I was shipping a package internationally, and as I slid the customs form through the window gap, I said, here's the customs form, and the agent said, I know what the customs form looks like, it's my job to know and I didn't need you to tell me. Staff are unknowledgable about USPS policy. I had a package fit in their flat rate envelope that was only reinforced by tape as their website allows it; however staff denied my package. Note that everything was inside the envelope, and nothing was sticking out. Unfortunately I plan on avoiding this location in the future in favor of the Manhattan office that opens late on weeknights. I was hoping to mail out today but this is just a hassle. It's a middle of the road post office - not the worst but not the best. I wish they still had Sunday hours; that would be worth another star. The building is gorgeous! I wish they would renovate the interior too, as the facilities seem really run down. I use this post office pretty frequently, and the folks who work there are always knowledgeable and helpful. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty fast. And, when it's busy there's often someone there checking on the people in the line, making sure you have the right form, or letting you know if there's a way you can skip the line. This is my Go To Post Office. This Post Office itself is functional. If the person behind the counter accepts your package or letter it will get to where it has to go within the desired time. I can not say the same thing for the mail boxes located around this area (good luck with all those Netflix Red Envelopes) but hey this review is about the Post Office not the Postal Service. Being a transplanted New Yorker I often find myself sending things back to So California and use the Priority Mail Packaging. If I can not find the desired packaging then there is always a "Helpful" employee willing to give me said packaging. Often times that same employee will refer to the numerous tables around the facility so that I can fill out the documents or address the package outside of the line (which moves relatively quickly no matter how long it is) and return in line. I have mailed packages internationally from this particular location and they have arrived quicker than a family member mailing an item to the same destination from the West Coast. They do handle all of your Passport needs here as well. Decor wise: this place has an old courthouse feel to it (oh wait coincidentally it is located inside of the Bankruptcy Court so you can mail your documents efficiently after you file for Bankruptcy what a novel idea. read more

I live in the neighborhood and while I try to avoid it at all costs (literally I prefer to pay UPS five times the price of shipping than have to walk up those steps) I have been forced to go to this post office on occasion, and always leave feeling berated and like I need a shower. Absolute nightmare with the worst people who work here... the lady behind the desk refused to scan my pre-paid packages. She kept saying "I'm not scanning these. You need to fill out a form." Never ever have I had to fill out any form for pre-paid packages. She had already dropped them all in a bin & asked if I wanted to fill out the form. I said no and she kept repeating "I'm not scanning..." it would have taken her 5 seconds to scan the packages but she spent more time arguing with me. I regret the fact that I walked away. I should have gone to another window or even asked for a supervisor. I asked when will the packages get scanned, she responded when they get picked up. It's been 24 hrs & they are still not in the system! With all the Covid & holiday delays, I'm really concerned that they're not in the system! Once I got home, I tried calling them to speak to a manager - well, no one picks up. They really don't care to help customers at all. Lack of efficiency at this place is the biggest issue. How this place has even one star I don't know. This is the nearest post office to me and it's about half a mile from my apartment. After trecking there with a 13 lb box i couldn't do self service for (because it wouldn't fit in the drop box) i got on line. When i got to the counter, the woman simply told me I could not mail my package because it had wording on it. This was a cardboard box I received a package in that said "Gilt" in size 30 font on 2 of the 4 sides. This was very confusing given the way amazon boxes look at the fact that I received a shipment in this very box. I asked her for a sheet of copy paper to cover the word "Gilt" (I had packing tape with me in my bag) and she said no. I was behind an Indian looking gentleman who asked the Asian clerk for tape and he made him buy the tape and was unprofessional with the customer speaking to him in a demeaning manner. Right after, a white male showed up with 3 boxes and asked for tape and the same Asian clerk directed him to get tape and they handed him a roll of tape. I was in disbelief and felt disgusted. Sadly, the Red Hook post office, and the Cadman Plaza post office, are huge reminders that our Postal system is just not a sustainable one. Soon we likely will have a five day delivery week, which could be one answer to the postal huge debts. One of our postal carriers told us how workers with less than 6 yrs seniority would be laid off or cut down. The system loses that much money. That means those workers left on, are often overworked, with little time to sort mail before routes, and deal with weird conditions. Post boxes on the street are being taken out because it takes a worker to empty them! We always tip our mail carriers and UPS persons at the holidays- they are allowed to accept a gift certificate or present that is $25 or less. Less people tip than you'd think. Many of our friends tip their kids teachers, but not their mail carriers. No other "service" comes to our doorsteps in such bad conditions without fail with such little thanks. To be fair, at both the Red Hook and Cadman plaza offices, there are often crazy customers shouting about something or other, people counting their change over and over...the clerks do deal with irritating customers all day long. okay, what does irk me at Cadman, is when you are polite and friendly- and you get the occasional clerk with a haughty attitude, unhelpful, jaded, curt, rude or you name it- and you know that person has a pension that not so many people do these days. Two things I I can suggest is that their website needs to be updated like a real online store- not an archaic, unsophisticated one!! And secondly, to anyone who can- at least offer your mail carrier a bottle of water once in a while, no matter what the weather- they usually can use it!! :) read more

This is my first time ever writing a yelp review. I wouldn't bother to write but I had an excellent customer service experience that needs to be documented. I am writing in the hope that a supervisor will see this and reward the postal worker who was so outstanding on my recent visit. The review is specifically about Bob, who is my personal hero at 271 Cadman Plaza East. I have a post office box at this location and have had other interactions with postal workers who ranged from kind and helpful to polite yet disinterested and in one case curt to the point of being rude. Bob's demeanor and customer service skills stand head and shoulders above them all. Not only was he kind and courteous, offering helpful and accurate information, he went above the call of duty to help me connect with a very important package that was stuck in processing. My anxiously awaited package contained the keys to the apartment I had expected to move into that very day. I was in a bit of a panic as the package was not yet available for pickup. This after alerts had stated that it had already arrived in the building and there was a supposed guarantee that the package would arrive by the day before since it was mailed express! I imagine the delays were due to a combination of the effect of the Pandemic and the unfortunate cuts to federal funding for the USPS. (There had already been a delay of 5 days at the postal point of origin before it was shipped out, but I won't even get into that.) Having provided Bob with the tracking information that showed the package had arrived in the building; he checked and then let me know that it was not yet deliverable as it had not yet been processed by the people upstairs. When I asked for a time frame for processing, he suggested I give it at least another 24 hours. This dismaying information had the ring of truth based on an experience I had with another package (not express). I explained that it was express and carried a guarantee of delivery by the USPS for the day that had already passed. Letting him know the crisis it presented for my family (not interested in booking a last-minute hotel room with my kid and cat during Corona Virus season); I asked if there was anything that could be done to expedite processing, considering the guaranteed delivery date had not been honored. Well, this kind, helpful man took my number and said he'd see what they could do and would call me in a couple of hours. I got a call from him, personally and within that very hour, to inform me that not only had they located the package; but it was available for pickup, and that I could simply ask for him and wouldn't even have to wait in line again to receive it! What amazing news! Here was a situation where the ball had been dropped and this man picked it up and spiked it into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown! He is my personal hero. My family enjoyed settling into our Pandemic safe apartment that very evening. I can't express how this made my day, my summer in fact. And through it all, his demeanor was amazing. He explained the situation and protocols in a straight-forward manner but with compassion. Someone, please get this man a raise! Some people care about doing their jobs with excellence and care to positively impact the lives of others. This man, Bob, embodied professionalism. When it comes time for promotion, his name ought to be first on the list. read more

There was no one in line behind me and she refused to assist me in getting materials together so I could ship my packages. An older male associate was kind enough to come around the counter and help me, also mailed a package of mine she previously turned away. Thank you to him for providing good customer service. This is the WORST Post office ever. I arrived to this post office around 10:30 and waited patiently for my time to see the lady behind the counter. The environment was disgusting. You can clearly tell that the workers don't care for their environment. There was more booths that had no workers in them!! Inside the booths it was utterly disgusting. It a complete mess! Then when it was my time to see the lady, she had a serious disgusting attitude with me. I talked to her in a calm manner to ensure that I wouldn't offend her in anyway. But this lady seemed unbothered. She didn't care for the customers what's so ever! I gave her my passport and told her my issue , trying to see if she knew where I can go to have my passport renewed because it was an emergency! This lady flung my passport back at me with utter disgust and was like "call this number" while looking around to not make any eye contact. It was so degrading. This women is clearly racist. I'm not saying that to add more assault to injury but she had a completely different interaction with a black customer as opposed to me (latino). I would not recommend this place to anyone what's so ever! Never come to this place. The environment is disgusting, the customers don't care about you. Sent something certified mail, it was delivered according to their system, but surprise of surpises..the green card was never returned. So, after calling USPS and getting the number of the local office, I called, and then called and then called. No answer. Shocking? Not really. Just read the prior reviews. The US Postal Service is going out of business for a reason. Read the reviews, try to call them, or worse, make a personal visit. Those are the reasons.
