This is Bob the rude and miserable employee

On January 6, 2026, at approximately 7:40 PM, I visited the 271 Cadman Plaza post office to drop off a package and purchase a money order. During this interaction, the postal employee on duty was hostile and unprofessional. During the exchange, the employee used homophobic slurs directed at me. This occurred after a verbal exchange where he displayed an aggressive attitude toward me. Regardless of any disagreement, the use of slurs and discriminatory language by a federal employee is unacceptable and constitutes misconduct. I am requesting a formal investigation into this incident, including review of security footage and any witness accounts. I expect appropriate disciplinary action to be taken. I also have video evidence of the employee refusing to provide a receipt upon request and intentionally delaying service for approximately 15 minutes in a retaliatory manner. This video is available upon request. I also asked for the supervisor, but she was acting like she didn't wanna be involved. This post office is so unprofessional. It's ridiculous. I will be taking this to the further extent.

I didn't intend to leave another review. But it seems the tips/check-in feature doesn't work the way it used to. I have a Post Office box at this location and it can be convenient when the hours are actually operating as listed. I'm mostly come here on the weekends and the late afternoon. And it hasn't been a problem up until now. I got there at 5 PM on Sunday and they were closed. Usually this location is open at least until about 10 PM. But I don't know what's going on.It's the main Post Office. Service here is definitely a hit or miss.... some agents are nice. Some people are not. Sometime ls your mail is in your box, sometime, i's not. Hopefully gets better.

I like this location because of the late hours, I don't know any other location open past 5pm. That being said, the line is always always always long as hell. Luckily, the staff members are usually friendly so that makes it better. Other than that, it's a post office so you get what you get.

Today was a day that involved going on a joyride regarding postal service. USPS rarely fails to provide a seamless experience: rather, it is often aggravating. After walking this far up to the post office lugging the merchandise I needed to send, I finally arrived at the window. The wait was slow and painful. They had some markers on the floor for social distancing. I already helped myself to the free priority box and had the self addressed label. All I needed was to drop it off at the window. Alas, not here. The employee behind the window would not give me a self adhesive pouch to slip my label on the box. Instead, he suggested to buy a roll of tape for $5. Oh really? Had I known, i would have brought my own. I wasn't looking to buy my 4th roll of tape that I rarely use. In addition, I couldn't even borrow some tape. Bah Humbug. Out of principle, I left and saw the massive line waiting for service. Good luck. I try to avoid visits to the post office. Most are useless.

Great service at this location. There were two staffers helping expedites services for customers. On walked the line to ask what the customers needed. Another was next to the self service machine.

Despite what you read or another post office tells you, they are not doing walk-ins for passports.

But whatever the reason, the Astor branch Post Office is consistently AWFUL -- unnecessarily rude, and unhelpful. This is not about one person having a bad day. Examples: - I brought in a box sealed with duct tape (it's strong!). I knew that is taboo, so I made sure to over-wrap it with many layers of ordinary clear tape. That DID make the box acceptable, but I got scolded like a 5 year old anyway. The clerk was sooooo wanting to refuse the package. - when submitting a box with a prepaid label, you're supposed to get a chance to put in your email address to get a receipt. Most clerks prevent you from accessing that -- despite the place having almost no business, they don't want to wait while you put in your email. - I was waiting for a package addressed to me at a local mail service -- an address 2 blocks away that the Post Office must visit multiple times a day (I've been getting mail there for over 20 years). No matter. The Post Office claimed they tried to deliver at 6:30am (long before the place is open) and took it back to the Post Office; then refused to re-attempt delivery. When I went to pick it up the clerk without even looking at my printout (with tracking info from the website) rushed passed me, and said "we don't take payments here!". I explained I was not there to make a payment. I could go on.... Not EVERYONE was a petulant ass, treating customers like they are an imposition, and other Post Offices in the area are consistently MUCH better. This is not about the Post Office generally - it is about this branch. Horrors! Avoid it if you can.

I am utterly appalled by the treatment I received at the West Village Post Office - 70 West 10th Street and hope proper action is taken for these employees involved. On 3/19, I was waiting outside of the post office as it was not open yet. Several workers impolitely asked me to move over or "get out of the way" so they can enter the building. They promptly locked the door behind them. When a different worker was exiting the building to bring out a cart, she did not lock the door behind her. She did not say anything to me, so I thought - I will wait in the lobby, not inside the post office, as it is 30 degrees outside and it is 9:20AM and the post office opens at 9:30AM. Well, I was wrong. Rather than politely saying excuse me ma'am, we are not open yet, the worker outside with the cart SCREAMED at the top of her lungs to "GET OUT". I asked her why she felt compelled to yell and me and that is not the appropriate way to speak to a customer. She did continued to yell at me so much that a man in a car nearby told me I was right and the post office worker was RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, AND EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. There was absolutely no attempt to communicate politely or explain the situation calmly. No customer, regardless of the circumstance, should ever be subjected to such aggressive and demeaning behavior, especially from representatives of a public service institution. This experience has not only left me feeling mistreated but also deeply concerned about the professional standards and customer service training at the West Village Post Office - 70 West 10th Street. It's clear that a serious review of staff conduct and customer interaction protocols is urgently needed to ensure that no one else has to endure such an unwarranted and humiliating situation. Customers deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, not met with hostility for minor misunderstandings or mistakes.

She had about 5-6 people on line. When I walked in she had already stopped the line before a lady, making us three wait. Thank God for good people who were in front of them that they were able to help them. My service was clicking the qr code and giving me a receipt, So it wasn't as easy for them to help me although they felt bad. As a Female we know that if you have to go use the bathroom okay no problem but she said " no this was her break, and wasn't taking nobody else till she came back." How does one clock in and immediately take a break?! This post office either needs to hire more people or have a good long meeting with her about that. As Im standing here people are coming before work, from far, or just because they need one simple thing and have to walk out flabbergasted that she just clocked in and is already on break - is absurd. Frustrated I told her her that I was going to report her because this shouldn't be right. She had her name tag on before she went on break. As i'm standing there I was like " you know what, I dont feel like my package would be safe in her hands so I will proceed to wait and take her name when she comes back and go elsewhere. When she comes back she had taken off her name tag. Kindly asked her for her name 2 times and she ignored me. I then got frustrated and ended up taking a picture. Not sure what type of service this post office is running but honestly I do Not recommend this post office at all as long as she's there. 1 star because that's all i can do but 0 for her customer service and support.

I figured Heart-Hat was on break and the working employee would be helping me soon. So I took out my phone to check my email. Well, at some point Heart-Hat must have decided to get back to work. I looked up and she was snarling at me in a low voice: "I called you." I said, "Oh! I didn't hear you." Which I hadn't--I'm a senior with a hearing disability. She said to me in a nasty voice: "That's because you were on your phone." I reminded her that she'd been on *her* phone for a long time. Well, that really set her off.
