Utterly unreliable. The service is what you'd expect from an "undeveloped" country. Hit or miss delivery and missing packages. When they do arrive, packages look like they've been run over by a semi. They have a habit of scanning items as delivered when the packages are still at office or in their truck. This renders tracking useless. I suggest you contact National USPS 1-800-275-8777 to file complaints. I gave up trying to contact the Cadman office directly. They either never answer, pick up and hang up or are utterly rude... with the exception of this lady. I've spoken with Toby several times and he is condescending and says things like "you're going to HAVE to wait." Sometimes he takes down my name and number saying he will follow-up... never to be heard from again. I dream of a day when this place is worthy of its NYC location. read more

In general I love the USPS--they have saved my carcass many times. And I know that being a USPS clerk must be an often exhausting and thankless job. But this branch? This branch is beyond foul, and whenever possible I head to Red Hook or Park Slope to avoid it. There are at least a few clerks at Cadman who are genuinely kind and helpful--one younger woman and one older man, in particular--but it seems that most are mean. These are the ones who yell at slightly confused, polite customers telling them to "learn to speak English." These clerks are not just petty and unhelpful, but derive pleasure from screwing people over. Sort of emblematic are the notices currently on the broken drop box; most of the energy in these signs goes to telling people to "be smart and not dumb" (I think the second one says "Dummy dummy dummy" at the end?). read more

I only come here if I am in the neighborhood, let us be clear about that. Of the three times I have visited to drop off my packages and get a receipt, a postal worker tells me something is wrong with how I dropped it off. Every time. Never fails. Now I will say that I drop off packages weekly, so fairly often, to my local post office (also a one star joint, but with friendlier folks) Please know that I don't know it all, but I do know that - You can add extra clear tape to small priority boxes. Why? Because all you have to do is squeeze the sides of the box and you can take stuff out, that's why. Thanks to the postal woman who tried to tell me otherwise. She was trying to convince me that it might not ship. I do this all the time. - No extra paperwork prints out when you create an express label. Trust me Thanks to the super disgruntled worker who told me otherwise. He couldn't tell me what it was I was missing, just that I was missing it...and that it might not ship (it did, of course) - If you ship an express package, get a receipt. Keep it. Apparently if you show proof of mailing it, with a receipt, the post office still has no proof YOU actually sent it. As if someone else would stand in line forever to get a $20 refund. It is such a hassle. They are not about refunds, even if something that was supposed to ship next day gets to the destination days later. I've accepted the fact that all post offices stink. That being said, this branch at cadman plaza makes the experience at least bearable. Yes, the lines are long and the staff at the windows are slow. However, this post office looks organized to a degree. In addition, during busy times, there is a staff person / manager on the line answering questions (to deflect customers off the line). So, maybe I'm just in general a forgiving mood, it's the New Year, and I want to start it off with positivity and understanding. My family overnighted a package of very important documents/papers that I had made the mistake of forgetting at their home while visiting over the holidays. It was to be delivered no later than 12 noon today. Tracking the package online, at 12:45pm (when I had not received the package yet) I discovered that a delivery entry for 11:55am was made at my receiving address. The problem is that, no package was actually delivered at that time. My building front desk and security confirmed it. I called Cadman Plaza, my local post office and asked kindly to help me resolve this issue: to please contact the driver, who may still be in the area, and help me confirm that either a mistake on USPS part was made or that my building staff was incorrect/not accurately reflecting the truth. In less than 5 minutes, the driver directly contacted me. Admitted that the delivery was incorrectly delivered and that he was downstairs with the missing package. I was hand delivered the package with an apology and that is all I needed. I can now go on about my business day, process the documents/papers I wanted today and go on. There are many reasons why the USPS and often the Cadman Plaza location receives negative ratings and comments. For years, I, and others, have personally witnessed questionable customer service and delivery issues. However, this incident was handled with prompt service, understanding, professionalism, admission of error, and resolved in a timely matter. I am grateful for the professionalism of the manager I spoke with on the phone and the delivery driver, who without any hesitation immediately worked to do their job and provide me, their customer with attention and a way to solve the problem. Business/delivery mistakes happen, we all understand that, but correcting a mistake is a sign of good service and deserves a thank you. I am very disappointed with this post office. I work as a silversmith, making handcrafted jewelry, ship all over the world. I used the post office's scan sheet, like always, to scan in three boxes. Only I didn't watch the scanning. Apparently only 2 were scanned and made it into the system. They other says it was never shipped, so no way to collect on the insureance I paid. UPDATE : They tried to steal from me! Worst and laziest post office employees ever. Every single package I have the tracking status will be Delivery Attempted and that there was a "Notice Left" but theres barely ever any notice nor did they ever attempt to deliver it. I would understand if it's once in a while but when it's very single package that's just pure laziness and bullshitting. Don't bother asking for redelivery through their redelivery option. They don't redeliver even after a week. Some of them will lie and give you false information about post office policies for package pickup and how it works. "You can't pick up this package, your name isn't on it" (Wrong !). As long as you have the pink slip, the person's photo ID (just in case if someone else's name is on it)and yours with proof of address, you're fine. Any New Yorker knows you have to grade city post offices on a curve. You're never going to get actual good service. But even among city post offices, this one is abysmal. The lobby puts you into two clearly marked lines, shipping and packages on Line 1 and all other services on Line 2. The lines are blocked off by ropes and everything. But don't be fooled. 20 minutes into your wait on line 2, while you watch one heroic clerk actually work while two more just sit around in front of a window staring into space, a clerk will yell with practiced exasperation "THERE IS ONLY ONE LINE!" And then a minor battle will break out as Line Two tries to merge into Line One, who is not having it. Then you can wait another 25 minutes until the one clerk actually doing her job gets to you. My God... this is where packages come to die. I had some things overnighted from Amazon - spent an extra 50 dollars in shipping. They were supposed to be Fedex... They were not. The USPS "attempted delivery" on a Thursday night to my office, at 7:30pm. Obviously, no one was there. No slip was left - this was all learned from online tracking. I went in on Saturday morning, thinking a 1 day buffer would be enough for it to be filed away in the office for pickup. WRONG. DEAD WRONG. After a 2 hour wait - let me just say that again, let it sink in. AFTER A 2 HOUR WAIT, in the unhappiest of lines, I was met with a wave of absolute attitude unlike anything I've experienced in my life. A great shadow of 'tude loomed forth above me, and crashed furiously on my huddled body - crushing what little soul I had left. My package was "still on the truck or somethin, come back Monday." "Do you need the tracking numbers?" I asked. "Nah." "Can I have a phone number to call, so I don't have to come down here and wait in line if it's not here" She scribbled down, in barley legible handwriting "718-855-0208" Call this number. Do it. It is a direct line to hell. I called to no answer three times this morning, each time the call terminating with a screeching howl, an alarm-like electronic tone that I assume is meant to deter you from calling again. Beneath the electronic horror I could make out subtle voices... demons, I assume, from some deeper, inner gate of the underworld. So I beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the USPS phone system. After 5 calls, I got through. A woman answers, asked my name, and went to go look for my package. Then, hung up on me. NOT THIS DAY! I called back, another 4 calls through the electronic screech. I got through again, and explained I was hung up on. "BY WHO!?" "I was not given a name." "WHAT YOU MEAN!?" "I need my packages." A long pause... I was sure I would be hung up on again. But no, she asked my tracking numbers, my name, the address it was sent to, and my phone number. "It's still on a truck, but should be back by 11:30am." We arranged for her to call me, though she would not give me her name. My packages may be lost for good, but I have a feeling my inside horse may indeed help me. My faith in the phone call is strong, and unwavering. I will get my packages. I WILL. Long story short: Don't ever use this post office. It will devour all that is good left inside you. If you wait in line there for more than 4 hours, you realize you've been working there for years. Their demise rests solely on their total incompetence and lack of technology. In this place, this disgusting, dirty, horrible bureaucratic hell hole with bulletproof plexi-glass, fluorescent lighting and odd stickers everywhere, you will be met by people who should not be allowed to talk to anyone for a living. So, whenever possible, pay the extra five bucks and use another service. Sadly, we all know this is impossible to do all the time. We're forced to go here and endure every single time anything fails to make it to our mailbox. When you do, SAY NOTHING. Just walk to the window, give them your slip, get your package AND LEAVE. If there is no package, SAY NOTHING. You'll get nowhere. Your package is gone and it's never ever going to be found and there's nothing you or your God can do about it. Just remember, the USPS is no longer profitable. They work for our tax dollars now so call your congressman and tell them it's time to do away with the post office and to start with Cadman Plaza. I got here on a Saturday during walk-in hours for passport application. I arrived around 11am and expected a solid 2-3 hour wait. What I got was a number 90-something while they were serving #3. It took an hour to get to #12. Their system is very unorganized, with people sitting on the ground and mothers holding their crying children as if it were some kind of refugee camp. Seriously it was ridiculously insulting. Tensions were high, and many prospective customers were arguing among one another enough to make everyone else feel uneasy. Even the staff was screaming at customers. I think they have lost sight what customer service is; just because it's a government building doesn't mean you don't answer to the people: in fact quite the opposite. (EDIT: The one and ONLY kind staff member I encountered was the Asian lady checking paperwork before being admitted into the holding cell... Err, holding area.) Finally after 2.5 hours and 20 numbers going by I decided to leave and come back early in the morning later the next week. This place continues to be the bane of my existence. The people who work there are the WORST ever. The other day there was a woman, who worked there, trying to expedite the lines. She was trying to make everything more efficient but her colleagues behind the windows kept being f-ing ridiculous. She told one customer who did not have a pen to ask the different tellers to borrow one- not ONE was willing to lend her a pen. Then, the expediter lady sent someone from the money order/stamps only line to one of the all services window. I am pretty old-fashioned and often send out snail mail to my friends, loved ones and pen-pals across the globe, so I've come to know this post office pretty well. The staff is pretty friendly and for the most part willing to help, unless it's within 5 minutes of closing when the security guard literally starts counting down the time. Don't come anywhere close to closing time since the attitude goes to the max. Like it resembles the DMV-type customer service. Luckily, they have the 24-hour machine that most people don't use in a separate room. Um, I guess they have a nice selection of stamps if you're that kinda person. Well, I am that kinda person and when there's not a long line, one employee got remarkably excited when I had asked to see their stamp collection. I had already contended with the fact that the employees at this office had obviously stolen multiple packages from me over the years but my in-person experience took the cake. Stay away from Mitzie at the passport office! She blatantly refused to accept all my valid forms of ID and made it a point to find fault where there was none in my application. I then asked if I could have an identifying witness since she wasn't accepting any of my IDs and she refused all of those as well. It was very obvious she didn't want to help me. Afterward, she went out of her way to say that any identifying witness I bring had to know how to speak and write in English. Myself and the person with me are native citizens, hence English as a first language and didn't speak with an accent, and yet she just had to squeeze in some racism as the cherry on top. The only person with limited English during this interaction was herself. In the time she took to do all this she could've processed my paperwork and actually have earned her living. Wow. I came here to write a scathing review about how awful this place is and see pretty much everyone has beaten me to it. Same thing as others - a nonexistent notice was left at my workplace from a failed delivery attempt. Called USPS 800 number and they said to head over to Cadman to pick up. Went to Cadman, stood in line for 40 minutes only to be told they don't hold packages that are sent to workplaces. Sent through my B.S. translator this means "Eh, I don't feel like looking for it. NEXT." I called the 800 USPS # again to confirm this is where the box would be and they said that was the only place it would be and apologized on behalf of the Cadman Post Office. Everybody there is incredibly rude and not just the employees - a lot of the customers are just as bad. It's almost as if they feed off of each other. Bring earbuds and make sure your phone is charged up if you plan on coming here because if you have to listen to the exchanges between the clerks and customers at the windows during the hour you're standing there waiting you'll start too drool and hallucinate. It's funny and amusing at first but after a while you start wondering if there is any hope for humanity. I've been in this situation there 2 or 3 times and after this last time have learned to use another carrier if at all possible when having packages sent to my workplace. The only good thing about this office is the automated tellers. If you can get by with mailing your items that way, have at it. But avoid walking any further into the gates of this horrifying Cadman Plaza Hell at all cost. And again: like I said, it's not just the employees - it's a lot of the customers, too. And it has nothing to do with their having to wait in line - the place is a magnet for self entitled people who like to yell, such as the woman ahead of me who kept insisting they try her credit card again and again after it was declined 3 times. She could have walked away but stood there and hollered for 10 minutes to the amusement and eventual hatred of all of us behind her. If you happen to walk by this post office make a crucifix with your index fingers, hold it up at the doors, and walk away as fast as you can. It's not worth it. read more

I've had it with this post office. Receiving packages from them is a nightmare and their carriers are just lazy and dishonest. I like to get packages delivered to my job because I've had issues with stolen packages and mail at my apartment building. However, this post office for some reason likes to deliver packages well after office hours. My job ends at 5:00 PM but most of the time they attempt deliveries at 7:00 & 8:00 PM (If you believe their tracking system). Most of the time they say a notice was left, but there's never any notice to be found. Just yesterday, a package I've been waiting for was marked as delivered at 9:22 PM and left at the reception area. Well there's two problems with that: ONE. There's no reception area at my job TWO: My job was definitely closed at 9:22 in the evening This is not the first time that they have lost or misplaced a package of mine that was marked as delivered on their tracking system. I never knew a post office could be so horrid. I DREAD having to mail anything knowing I have to go through pure hell at this post office. I just stood in line for an hour in the small building because there were so many fights at the counter prompted by how rude the employees are. An employee made up rules for why he could not ship a poor girl's package which we looked up standing in front of him on a website he made up and showed him he was lying to our faces, yet he closed the counter and everyone refused to help us. I am turned away most times I go for excuses like "your tape is slanted so I cannot ship this" or "the writing is a little smudged so you have to get out of line and re-do this." Before typing this I went to the post office two times and was yet again turned away after an hour in line because they did not like how I taped my envelope and refused to provide any or sell me any. There was no offer to help, they just sent me away. I am appalled that this location is even in existence!!! UPS YOU MUST RE-EVALUATE THIS LOCATION AND THE PROCESSES AND EMPLOYEES! II felt like I was in a scene from 28 Days Later upon entering this place--everyone looked like a zombie in shock, I didn't even see the sign for this place, garbage and papers littered the lobby and vestibule, scaffolding looked like it had been abandoned for months... basically, it was the epicenter of its own apocalypse. Ok really? I went in to drop off a package that was already packaged and labeled. The ONLY thing I needed was a bit of packing tape to secure the box and it was good to go. This post office had tape, but when I asked for scissors to cut the tape the lady behind the counter explained "oh no we don't have those", as if scissors would be some rare commodity in a shipping facility.
