U.S. Post Office 14th Street branch was convenient when I was shopping Union Square. It's typical no frills service. You get what you need and don't dare take photos in the post office. Check out the Xmas postage stamps while you're there. They're out of the Snoopy Stamps just like the other branches!

They have two automatic machines and two tellers. What else do you need? A package I dropped off here once got across the country early.

Quick line. Pleasant service. What's not to like considering it's a post office and not a swanky restaurant?

But whatever the reason, the Astor branch Post Office is consistently AWFUL -- unnecessarily rude, and unhelpful. This is not about one person having a bad day. Examples: - I brought in a box sealed with duct tape (it's strong!). I knew that is taboo, so I made sure to over-wrap it with many layers of ordinary clear tape. That DID make the box acceptable, but I got scolded like a 5 year old anyway. The clerk was sooooo wanting to refuse the package. - when submitting a box with a prepaid label, you're supposed to get a chance to put in your email address to get a receipt. Most clerks prevent you from accessing that -- despite the place having almost no business, they don't want to wait while you put in your email. - I was waiting for a package addressed to me at a local mail service -- an address 2 blocks away that the Post Office must visit multiple times a day (I've been getting mail there for over 20 years). No matter. The Post Office claimed they tried to deliver at 6:30am (long before the place is open) and took it back to the Post Office; then refused to re-attempt delivery. When I went to pick it up the clerk without even looking at my printout (with tracking info from the website) rushed passed me, and said "we don't take payments here!". I explained I was not there to make a payment. I could go on.... Not EVERYONE was a petulant ass, treating customers like they are an imposition, and other Post Offices in the area are consistently MUCH better. This is not about the Post Office generally - it is about this branch. Horrors! Avoid it if you can.

It is very accessible via MTA NYC Transit A, C, D, E, and F trains at West 4th Street. This station is Patchin Place, is a gated cul-de-sac. This station is somewhat small for retail space, but it gets the job done for the purpose of my visit. This station is open on Saturdays which is very beneficial to my schedule and needs. I am utterly appalled by the treatment I received at the West Village Post Office - 70 West 10th Street and hope proper action is taken for these employees involved. On 3/19, I was waiting outside of the post office as it was not open yet. Several workers impolitely asked me to move over or "get out of the way" so they can enter the building. They promptly locked the door behind them. When a different worker was exiting the building to bring out a cart, she did not lock the door behind her. She did not say anything to me, so I thought - I will wait in the lobby, not inside the post office, as it is 30 degrees outside and it is 9:20AM and the post office opens at 9:30AM. Well, I was wrong. Rather than politely saying excuse me ma'am, we are not open yet, the worker outside with the cart SCREAMED at the top of her lungs to "GET OUT". I asked her why she felt compelled to yell and me and that is not the appropriate way to speak to a customer. She did continued to yell at me so much that a man in a car nearby told me I was right and the post office worker was RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, AND EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. There was absolutely no attempt to communicate politely or explain the situation calmly. No customer, regardless of the circumstance, should ever be subjected to such aggressive and demeaning behavior, especially from representatives of a public service institution. This experience has not only left me feeling mistreated but also deeply concerned about the professional standards and customer service training at the West Village Post Office - 70 West 10th Street. It's clear that a serious review of staff conduct and customer interaction protocols is urgently needed to ensure that no one else has to endure such an unwarranted and humiliating situation. Customers deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, not met with hostility for minor misunderstandings or mistakes.

I headed to the clerk. Lady behind the counter closed her window and acted like there is no customers waiting for services. Took no initiative to service either. Upon giving her the package I couldn't even see her face as the window was so closed up. This is not covid period anymore and I don't see her wearing a mask either, please give some customer service. She was also very rude to others waiting in line afterwards. I will not come to this location again. Out of all the manhattan post office. This is the worst location with bad customer service. She had about 5-6 people on line. When I walked in she had already stopped the line before a lady, making us three wait. Thank God for good people who were in front of them that they were able to help them. My service was clicking the qr code and giving me a receipt, So it wasn't as easy for them to help me although they felt bad. As a Female we know that if you have to go use the bathroom okay no problem but she said " no this was her break, and wasn't taking nobody else till she came back." How does one clock in and immediately take a break?! This post office either needs to hire more people or have a good long meeting with her about that. As Im standing here people are coming before work, from far, or just because they need one simple thing and have to walk out flabbergasted that she just clocked in and is already on break - is absurd. Frustrated I told her her that I was going to report her because this shouldn't be right. She had her name tag on before she went on break. As i'm standing there I was like " you know what, I dont feel like my package would be safe in her hands so I will proceed to wait and take her name when she comes back and go elsewhere. When she comes back she had taken off her name tag. Kindly asked her for her name 2 times and she ignored me. I then got frustrated and ended up taking a picture. Not sure what type of service this post office is running but honestly I do Not recommend this post office at all as long as she's there. 1 star because that's all i can do but 0 for her customer service and support.

On this day she was wearing a white beret covered with hearts. When I walked in, there were two employees behind the counter. One was helping a customer. The other was Heart-Hat, who sat there scrolling on her phone and ignoring the customers standing in line. This went on for several minutes. I figured Heart-Hat was on break and the working employee would be helping me soon. So I took out my phone to check my email. Well, at some point Heart-Hat must have decided to get back to work. I looked up and she was snarling at me in a low voice: "I called you." I said, "Oh! I didn't hear you." Which I hadn't--I'm a senior with a hearing disability. She said to me in a nasty voice: "That's because you were on your phone." I reminded her that she'd been on *her* phone for a long time. Well, that really set her off. She started ranting and when I asked if she had Christmas stamps, she yelled "No!" At that point I moved to the next window to escape her anger. The friendly worker there showed me the many holiday stamps they indeed had, and also explained how I could buy other designs at the lobby kiosk. I confided to the friendly one, "You know, I've signed petitions in the past to save this post office." Heart-Hat shouted over at us: "Nobody cares!"
