I have never dealt with a postal "service" as incompetent as I have experienced today. You'd think…read moreUSPS would make more of an effort to value their customers like FedEx or UPS. When I first tried to call this location, their line was busy. Not the "sorry for the inconvenience, but our clerks are currently servicing a different customer" kind of busy, but the "we're not going to answer your phone call, so we're leaving the phone off the hook all day" kind of busy. I had to track down a back-door number from a friend, and when I did finally get ahold of someone, they couldn't help me because I don't have a tracking number. Now whenever I use UPS or FedEx, I can get the delivery tracked by using my address. So just in case you were wondering why usps is losing business, you have your answer.

I would like to clarify some things in Mike's review. I understand your frustration in not being…read moreable to get through to someone at the Haines Post Office. Maybe you are not aware that this is a very small location and is a one person show. The office is only open 6 hours M-F and closes for one hour each day for lunch. The employee who works there is in no way incompetent and is liked by all the customers. There is no "back-door" number to this office. So, think about it, one employee providing service to customers at the retail counter and by phone in a small town that has provided the best service I have ever experienced in a rural town, might have actually been busy. I would be curious as to how and where you get your USPS financial info from, last time I heard they were taking business from UPS and Fed-Ex and outperformed them again last year. And yes it can be frustrating that the USPS only tracks packages with a "Tracking Number", but that is why they tell you to hang on to your receipt, and is one of the many reasons they are cheaper and provide better, timely service than their competitors.

My sister and I came here to drop off a large pre-paid package for a friend. The person who helped…read moreus was Damon. We went up to the counter and said we need to drop this off and that was it is already paid. He immediately got annoyed and said there was no shipping label. We turned the package around to show him the label because why would we drop off a pre-paid package with no label? He then got even more annoyed because he said he could barely read the label. He took out his scanner and dramatically tried to scan the label and complained it wouldn't scan. Instead of being helpful he was extremely rude to us about the label. Also he said he could not take the package because he couldn't scan it, but he could've just manually entered the numbers. This really made me mad because he was extremely rude and over dramatic about the package, instead of helping us fix the problem.

The Pendleton Post Office is a helpful mix of short waits, knowledgable, helpful staff and…read moredependable deliveries. Their retail people are likely to know your name and make good suggestions about cost-efficient, timely delivery of packages, tax documents and plain old letters - if you ask, they'll show you how to fill out their documents before your arrive at their windows and speed your way through the process. They are also patient experts in locating packages sent from other (haven't had problems on the Pendleton end) locales. They have a persistent, gentle sense of humor and some clever merchandise, suspect the rubber boneless turkeys was was local, funny effort. My mail delivery, even on truly tough (sub-zero, ice covered roads and sidewalks, large dogs) days, has been consistent. Single downside is their public relations - they inspire a scowl in diner conversation over the location of group mailboxes and business deliveries. Haven't had these (own a small business) problems, but have heard them more than once.

I don't even know where to start. Basically I'm unhappy with mail delivery or lack of. I've had…read moremail and packages not get to me. I've filed claims of insurance which were denied because they said they delivered the package. Now I've told people to add signature required to any packages they send to me. They still stick signature items in my box and they never come to my door for a signature. Now the workers at this location have always been really nice. Also the all night stamp machine is great. Unfortunately this doesn't make up for their other mistakes.

Wow, I can't believe I'm giving this place a whopping four stars…read more To make sure that I decided to give this Post Office an appropriate allotment of stars, I thought it only fair to give it more than once chance. The first time I went, I got to the establishment about 10 minutes after it opened. I had four big boxes (APOs, of course!), and there was a short line (i.e., about two or three people ahead of me). However, to my surprise, even though the place had just opened, they had two tellers working. GASP! And this Post Office is WAY smaller than the one in Wilsonville. Granted, I still had to wait about five minutes in line, because they still move purdy slow. But when I got to the counter, the dude (who moves like a snail) was really nice, and knew exactly how to handle these packages. No confusion over why I was there...he just DID HIS JOB. And he also assured me that it'll always get done faster at this branch, rather than the Wilsonville one. It's one of those statements that makes you wonder if he's just placating you or trying to talk up HIS establishment. So I left, and that was that. I went again yesterday, around 2:45 p.m., this time, to deliver more APOs, and to see if he was right, and if I'd leave happy. I drove into the parking lot, looked around and shouted the LORD's name in vain...it was packed. And I was sure my trip would now at least take an hour. So I get inside, and I'm right...there's a looooong line. But, OH HAI!, there're THREE people working the counters (all of the tills are open!), and the lady at the Postal Store was also able to chip in and mail some stuff. In the words of Borat: WA WA WEE WA! Granted, I still waited in line between five and 10 minutes, but I'm telling you...if I were downtown or in Wilsonville, that same line would have taken AT LEAST a half hour to get through. And they don't forget the entertainment, either. Halfway through my wait, someone a few spaces ahead of me...their phone started ringing. And he let it go awhile. And it was (very clearly) "Don't Stop Believing." Ha! FAN-TASTIC. When I got to the counter, the guy wasn't particularly talkative, but he did the APO fast, and I was outta there. I am NEVER going back to the Wilsonville Post Office! (Oh, and PS: Snail Boy was right. They ARE faster.) (And PPS: Extra snaps because it's right across the street from DUTCH BROS!!)

Most of the time I feel as if "Post Office" is more like a four-lettered word. People gasp in…read morehorror when you mention it, and often rightly so, when one has to consistently suffer through long lines and grumpy employees. I'm not going to lie--I would probably act the same way if I worked at one of these stations. I've dealt with this particular post office for years; however, I dealt with it twice yesterday. TWICE. The first time I went in, there was actually no line. Which made me oh-so happy. The gentleman who helped us out was nice to talk with, but in the interest of us saving money, he kept insisting that we not express the packages being sent. Uhh...I'm pretty sure it always comes to the customer being right, and I appreciate you trying to save me a few cents, but really? Don't push it, k? About a half-hour later, my friend found out that one of the packages she was sending to Canada actually needed to be there in about five business days, not just postmarked by that date. Since USPS doesn't guarantee international packages, the only option would have been going with FedEx international express, which would take three or four business days, and cost almost $30. She immediately called the post office to see if she could change the shipping. They told her to come on down, and we did, and then there was a massive line out the door. After about 20 minutes in line, we finally get to the front, and our space-case person had a really hard time doing what we asked her to do. She found the package pretty easily, but then she had us fill out a bunch of forms, including a refund request for the original postage. All in all, this took another 20 minutes, and we became "those" people who everyone stares at. Well, it got shipped, I can say that much. But was it all the trouble? I guess so. And I think that for the most part, the staff is pretty knowledgeable and personable, but the second time around, I'm not sure what happened. Ultimately, I'll continue to gasp in horror when I have to go to the post office, because, let's face it: They're almost all the same.

This is the closest post office to where I live and I've tried visiting during different hours, days of the week, and times of the year...there are always lines to the door or past it. I've resorted to sticking a bunch of stamps on whatever I'm sending without weighing it, putting it in the drive through box, and hoping it gets there. However, since my Father's Day card didn't make it in time this year even though it was only going to Medford and had over two days to get there...I'm not so sure this will work either. Meh.
