I was again greeted by a very pleasant woman who swiftly moved me through the renewal process. We had a pleasant conversation regarding my new picture and my 23 years of living in TX as opposed to Mass. I walked out at 9 AM at exactly my appointment time! Winner winner chicken dinner! This locale has plenty of parking and many DPS folks to assist. Pro tip: Make sure you bring all the required paperwork or you will be SOOLuck and have to reschedule.

I am a cemetery junkie, often walking cemeteries performing Find A Grave work and genealogy. Since…read moreI was in the area, I wanted to check out the grave of Sam Bass. He was a notorious outlaw in the area. Thankfully someone had attached GPS coordinates to his grave. I didn't know where his grave was, so I simply punched up the GPS coordinates and took a leisurely walk to where he is interred. Of course I took pictures and added updated GPS coordinates. There were a few other memorials I "worked" while I was out there. There is a slave portion of the cemetery. My mother and I paid our respects to one and all. Please check out this cemetery.

We weren't able to find AW Grimes here or at least Google didn't want to cooperate. There are many old gravestones dating back to the 1800s for those looking to see the carvings. This cemetery is pretty clean and the newer graves are closer to the front entrance. There sadly are some graves where the headstones have fallen down and broken and I wish some folks would come here to do cleanings of the stones but it is what it is. There's not much else to see here other than the historical area I mentioned before. Parking is a bit limited toward the front. It's all gravel, nothing is paved.

Thing Two has been here for multiple girl scout events (including today). I have voted, worked out, played racquetball, sat with my thoughts in the community garden and so much more here. This is one of the best community centers I have ever seen. As I have lived in this community for many years, I have seen this community center evolve from the basic amenities to what now houses an adequate sized gym, a racquetball players dream, an indoor regulation sized basketball court, a place to meet friends and so much more. It's often times like this when I realize that I am so fortunate to live in a community that is able to fund such an amazing place where the community actually comes together to celebrate our common interests. #bewellcentraltx

I also don't like being distracted or bothered when I do my daily miles. For me, the very best place in Austin to do serious walking is the Camp Mabry track. You can see the track from Mopac by glancing west between the 35th and 45th St. exits; it's that expanse of area with planes and helicopters all neatly lined up and lit up at night. It's exactly one-mile of light gravel and cinder with quarter-mile posts--I know the distances are accurate because I measured them. There are also exercise-stations all around the track with incline benches and bars and instructions on how to use them, if that interests you. The track has a large parking lot and a small bathroom where you can change. Camp Mabry is a military post, but normal people can use the track--just tell the guards at the 35th St. entrance why you're there, show some id, and be prepared to open your trunk. You'll get a yellow temporary permit for your car. I don't know what the deal is on the property here, but it sure doesn't feel like being in the middle of Austin: You must drive slowly and carefully, especially during dusk and dawn, to accommodate all the does and fawns and raccoons and coyotes that will cross your path. It's actually pretty cool. At twilight, there's usually a herd of deer grazing as I'm driving out. I've noticed Army people do early morning workouts, so if I'm there when they are, I just stay on the right-hand side of the track and they'll zip past me on the left--just like driving. On weekend mornings, I see Navy people. From 6:00pm on, I rarely see more than two people using the place at all. Incidentally, it's worth bringing your own water and not rely on the water fountains at the two gazebos. One last thing--every once in a while when I'm there, a helicopter will swoop down and land in the middle of the track and after a short while take off again. For some reason, that just fascinates me. It occurs to me this place is some kind of hidden gem that I shouldn't be talking about, and those in the know probably want it sequestered; if that's the case, I'll consider deleting this review. I attended the AMERICAN HEROES Air Show and Camp Mabry open house this weekend, and simply was…read moreoverwhelmed. It was packed on Saturday with visitors, displays, representatives from all kinds of military and non military representatives, reinactements, food vendors, on and on. I took tons of photos and was not even able to capture a small part of what was there. I wore myself out. The kids that people brought loved it! It rained now and then but that was basically ignored. What fun! Mark this down for next year, hustle up the kids and spend the day. I suggest arriving about 0900 AM so folks can deal with unforeseen delays. This was fun. Really fun and also really interesting to see those that provide and have provided service to the nation and Texas.

They are located right next to H-mart and 85 degrees bakery…read more USCIS staff are professional, accurate and precise if it comes to times, and the job. 2 pm biometrics appointment, checked in at 1:53, a little wait with a number, then some redo's of a couple of fingers to get clear prints, and I was out by 2:15 pm. Original forms, cards were returned to you, including a little booklet with the next steps in the process, and a customer satisfaction form to filled out and returned in the box on your way out. Which was very satisfactory in my case. Tried to get there earlier at 1:30, and the door was locked. I guess they're on a lunch break. And people need & deserve a break too! The door reads again (just like the received appointment letter), only to enter with appointment, and only 15 minutes prior. It had notes that USCIS staff are wearing masks, and for visitors it is optional (because of the 'green phase'). When checking you in, they did ask me to remove the mask to confirm my identity. Which I'm glad they did! The waiting area (which is basically first come - in line/checked in, first serve) had signs everywhere to NOT USE PHONES. Pretty standard for government centers. Do not take photographs. Do not eat or drink. And that's how you keep things clean and safe. My pictures were only on the outside to show it's location and the times, rules to enter by the door.
