Makes me so angry when I come to a business or government facility and the young lady behind the counter is on her phone. No greeting or anything too much to ask. When I ask her for a envelope for next day shipping at 345pm she says im too late in the day 350pm and that I might as well send it regular mail or fed ex. because it will arrive monday and its Thursday afternoon. So i leave but the person im sending it to says just mail it. Come back in the girl is still there i told her I cannot come back in the morning. She gets up and hides behind the hallway and goes in the back and I hear her talking on the phone. Luckily a older gentleman comes and takes care of my mail and says it will arrive next day. This is the epicenter of Pentagon City inefficiency, the only constant here is that there will ALWAYS be a wait (and lobby will always have trash blowing around). Let's go back to this morning: went in a few hours ago to get labels for a certified mail envelope, none were available in the outer lobby, none were in the inner lobby either. Had to flag down someone working in the back to get them, but WHY aren't they out and available??? Came back a few hours later with my envelope ready to go, and the only reason why I was sending it certified is because I don't trust them to actually get it there, all 3.8 miles of the envelope's journey. Sent a text to a friend so I would know what time I arrived, and when I finally made it to the counter, it was 13 minutes later. I have many questions, but the main one - and it is probably shared with everyone in line ahead and behind me - is why is there only ONE PERSON WORKING?? Why?? The APC machine has been out of service for over a week, so anyone needing that is also forced to wait in the hell known as the S. Fern PO. The final kick in the ass was paying $8.20 to send something that I was afraid they would lose/otherwise f**k up. read more

It's a pretty small post office... but then again, it's in the best freakin' location there could be. Yeah... it's fairly dingy like every single post office I've ever been in. I really measure a post office by it's customer service, and wait time. Customer service here was great. I watched a post office worker try to solve the issue that a customer had for a few minutes and he was genuinely concerned. Extra points. When another post worker saw that I was waiting for a bit while the other post worker was busy, he hopped behind the counter to take me. He was quick, efficient, and friendly. Yes... he was friendly. I think that's actually a first for my post office experiences. It's like 7-11 for me, I don't expect the cashiers to be very friendly for enthusiastic, so it's a bonus when they are. They do have a self service station, and a couple of pens floating around with an egregious amount of post office stickers on the back end so they're not taken. Had absolutely no problem with this USPS office. Tons of street parking. Convenient. read more

I've lived in the area for four months and I've used this post office approximately four times to ship packages and two my packages didn't make it to their destination. I like the USPS but this location has been a huge disappointment. They have a talent for losing the most expensive things you ship. Too bad because it's in a great location. i have been using this post office for years and they are very friendly professional and helpful. did to it's location, they are very busy and customers are always in a hurry due to all the shopping options surrounding the facility and the very limited parking. Useful primarily for its 24-hour kiosk, which is often useless because its supplies are not stocked. This post office has all the usual amenities, including PO boxes. The staff are a little slow, but usually fine. The main draw here is the automated kiosk, which is available even when the rest of the post office is closed. But you will still need a pen and tape, plus any forms needed for your service. Priority boxes are supposed to be available here, but the display is almost always empty. So, it's best to bring your own box or envelope, which kind of defeats the purpose of the 24-hour kiosk. It's hit or miss. read more

The location is really convenient if you're able to walk here but parking is iffy if you're stuck driving. Don't be fooled by their automated postal machine. Theoretically you can use it to ship packages when the post office is closed, but it seems like it isn't working at least half the time leaving you to lug the package home. Other times the machine will mail your package...only to have it returned for insufficient postage. Our tax dollars at work! read more

Rude, unhelpful staff who could not demonstrate a basic understanding of their own USPS products, try to get customers to buy unnecessary extra products, and openly mock or berate their customers. I've used this USPS several times over the past two years. Everyone has always been kind and helpful. One postal worker even recommended reboxing a package to reduce shipping costs and risk of damage to the glass inside. All packaging material needed was quickly found on the shelf. For a small post office, they are well stocked with supplies. I usually walk. When driving, parking can be tough to find / expensive, but that is an issue in this whole area and not the direct fault of the USPS. (Angelia) read more

I debated walking here today, but decided it was too cold when I could drive there in 2 minutes. I found parking right out front, although it was 11:30 on a weekday. There was one employee working but he had a helper-I believe she was a USPS employee that was there hanging out with him. I know that sounds weird but she knew things about stamps and mailing guidelines that the average person wouldn't know although she was dressed in street clothes. They were both actually super friendly and really helpful. I had a bunch of invitations to send out and they helped me determine how much postage I would need on each, helped me put the stamps on, and stamped them for me to be post-marked today. Everything was done with a smile too! I've had less pleasant interactions here, but I just wanted to give a shout-out to Sean and his helper for their awesome customer service today! read more

Incompetent/lazy. My girlfriend went here today to turn in her passport paperwork (after having it all looked over by another postal worker) and was told that her previous passport was not enough proof of citizenship. What the hell? It says so right on the State Department's website AS WELL AS the post office website that you only need a previous US passport OR a birth certificate, not both. Reeks of incompetence or laziness. I'll be reporting this to USPS when I can confirm who the employee is. read more

Hip Hip Hooray that my local post office has relocated to a decent location. FINAL-freakin-LY! After months and months of teasing by the tattered paper sign scotch-taped to the doors of the old Eads St. location that promised a move in late spring, the actual move came well into the past summer. Now post offices aren't exactly the sexiest of places to review on Yelp, but anyone who's ever visited the old Eads stomping grounds (http://www.yelp.com/biz/us-post-office-arlington-7) knows that this move to Fern St. was about a decade overdue. No, seriously -- a decade! So there's nothing better to mark this momentous occasion than an honest (and if you're lucky, useful and entertaining) review of the place that puts the "S" back in UPS! Literally. The new place is a major improvement... -super clean, well organized, and well lit (read: the yin to the old Eads' yang) -entry lobby is open 24 hours for self-service (for access to P.O. boxes, the automated machine, etc.) -counter service is swifter than it used to be (which is truly a reason to break out wildly in dance and song, even if you can do neither well) -branch retained the same courteous counter staff (so you don't have to fear that one will "go postal" on you while you try to send Gramps his birthday gift) But it's not perfect... -counter service is still not as fast as it should be (read: whereas employees used to move at the pace of cold maple syrup, they are now running at the speed of warm blackstrap molasses - a meager improvement, at best) -the main room is kind of small (indeed, the old location had more space) -customers don't know how to line up properly (as in many people stop and stand immediately upon entering and thus crowd near the front door, when you need to walk past the middle island and wait at the far corner) -the limited street parking is metered (whereas the old place had its own free lot) -the place still locks up tight at 5 pm M-F (WITW?!?! a/k/a The targeted demographic must be retirees, small children, ladies who lunch, and high school drop-outs.) read more

This place needs better managing. I am so tired of dropping off packages and they do not get scanned/shipped until 2 days later....Terrible. Its to the point where I am just walking to the next block and using UPS. Packages are either misplaced or still sitting in a bin behind the drop box. Its like there is no sense of urgency. In this day, you should appreciate being employed and be thankful even if you hate it. Many people have no jobs and cannot find one. Everybody needs to file a customer complaint on the USPS website so there is more visibility from higher echelon. read more

The line in here can move painfully slow, even in the middle of the day, when you might expect it to be the least busy. However, I've also experienced some of the most friendly Post Office staff here. I had a small container of glass jars I wanted to mail priority but couldn't find a box that made sense. One of the employees went to the back and found the perfect box for me and relived a bit of stress for me! She marked the item fragile and got my transaction finished in a snap. I really appreciated the great customer service considering it probably gets frustrating having people show up without the materials they need and hoping for a miracle lol. read more

Unable to make address labels here. They could use an update such as address label machines that other states have in the USP Offices. But that's not really the problem. Because of Ebay I use this Post Office about 1 time a week. It seems to be hit or miss as to whether there is a line or not. If there is no line, it's in and out pretty quick. Unfortunately, there is an older gentleman at the far end of the counter that is VERY Very Verrrrrrry slowwww. He is super nice, but he seems to know a lot of customers and will stop and talk.. and talk.. and talk... then he will talk some more... He is very consistant with his talking no regardless of the number of people waiting. I have seen two other employees get on to him about talking but he just ignores them.. There is a young girl at the first station by the door. She is also very nice, but speedy. She can make friendly conversation and process your mail all in about 2 minutes. Love her! If you find a really long line and chatty Kathy at the end discussing the weather.. you can always walk a block over to Crystal Drive. There is usually a line there, however they are very efficient at this location and move thru the line quickly. read more

I use this Post Office on a regular basis and I can tell you THEY ARE THE BEST!!! It's a high volume office but the employees are very fast and efficient. It is true they only have two people behind the counter and an employee that will come out to the lobby to help move the line. I have used the machine with the lady that works in the lobby helping me and none of my packages have been returned. I have not encountered any "ghetto" attitudes or rudeness. I have witnessed some of the rudest most entitled customers being serviced by three very professional employees of the United States Postal Service. read more

What is the point of having an Automated Postal Center (APC) if it is out of service and doesn't work properly? Today the APC was out of service and I could not access any of the options, so I had to return back home with my unmailed package. Last week I used the APC to weigh my package and buy postage and more than a week later I get my mangled package back saying I didn't have enough postage on it. I used the scale at the Post Office that was part of the APC to weigh it and mail my package! So now sadly, my package will not make it to the recipient in time for Christmas and I have to try to make yet another trip to the Post Office again tomorrow morning. read more

Very busy during lunch hour so do yourself a favor if you can and go early or later in afternoon. The upkeep could be better, the place always looks dirty and unkempt.
