Always the same yet not, lol. This particular location is busy and there's always a decent line. There used to be two blue mailing boxes outside, but they removed one so now there's only one and it fills up often. Sadly, they lock the doors now after hours to keep homeless folks from entering at all hours, so if you have a PO Box or if you're looking to use the self service machine that convenience is long gone, and you can only access them during normal business hours. I have been to this post office for passport application and certified mails. The few times I was there the lines were short, they serviced my request pretty efficiently. USPS is also a cheaper alternative to UPS/Fedex. For passport services, definitely make an online appointment to save you time waiting. Passport photo taking was more expensive than CVS/Walgreen, so next time I'd for sure get my pic taken at the pharmacy. I was satisfied with the overall experience considering the USPS is underfunded and the employees there are not as motivated to provide high quality service like other private institutions. read more

It works. This USPS in Annandale can be extremely busy. Your best bet is 11 am to 1 pm in my opinion. No matter what there will be lines. This is because for now consumers, the USPS shipping is cheapest option. Their tracking system is laughable compared to UPS or Fed Ex. I'm not thrilled about the stamps going up two cents. They probably have their reasons, but the public/private quasi operation seems to like doing this often. That is frustrating. Parking here is plentiful at least. If you go during off peak hours even better. The employees are friendly and efficient. read more

While in-person service is usually hassle-free (at peak times after a long wait) and usually friendly, it still stings that I have on more than one occassion rushed to get home from work in DC by 4:30 only to find the service area roped off or door closed because they are closed early - but when I question they point at the clock which is set 30 minutes fast. And why am I rushing to get there? Usually because they have left a notice about a package that was specified that signature was not required for delivery. Very frustrating. If I could, I would do ALL of my business at the Merrifield Post Office...but it is only exceptional because it is a regional hub. read more

I was an expecting an international delivery that was lost at this location. I opened a case with USPS and spoke to someone at this branch who instructed me to file a claim if the package wasn't received by the end of the day, which it was not. When I proceeded to try and file a claim I spoke with USPS consumer affairs who stated my only recourse was to have the original seller ship a duplicate item. It's completely unreasonable that USPS would not let me file a claim for an item they lost and also completely unreasonable that they expect the shipper to be responsible for the item that was lost at the fault of the post office. These individuals are completely inept at doing their jobs and even worse, they refuse to make customers whole and take ownership of their own errors. read more

We confirmed that this is the place the manager treats us like in Amazon Forest. We went there to ask for changing the address around 3:30 pm. The manager there took away our FORM which was given to us by another USPS location and all our personal docs and throws them to the trash bin. She also said: I do that, what are you going to do? in front of everybody there!! She also yelled at an employee who tried to help us. Do you have the RIGHT to take away our FORM and personal stubs?? On what basic?? We'd like to give this service a MINUS 5 STARS if we can. We understand you just stressed out of work but what did you do to us huh??? It was so rude!! Avoid this post office at all cost. Only go here if you like to play Russian Roulette with your packages. I have shipped many items here, but not anymore, because they have lost 2 of my packages (Valued at more than $200). I ended up having to take the loss. From all the other reviews, it seems like this post office likes to lose packages or their staff likes to go on an early Black Friday holiday shopping spree in the back. I hope they open up an internal investigation to see where the packages are. At least return them to me if you are unable to deliver. So this place is super-duperly located near gas stations, banks, places to eat, etc. So I go here often. Mail a few things, but some stamps. ..usually using the automated system. But how are you going to send something CLEARLY and DEFINITELY marked for Hyattsville Maryland to West Palm Beach Florida? !???! Then I have to spend time on the phone to be told to come back into the post office. I go in and have to fill out a form as if the instructions weren't clear enough the first time. This post office is my backup for my mailing needs. You have to know when to roll into this post office. The middle of the day on a regular weekday is not bad. Two days before Xmas is stupid. Guess which one I picked. This post office has a main line for most everything and a separate line for just postage needs. They have an automated post office kiosk for do it yourself mailing. My main problems with this place are the really long waits during peak hours and that I can never find certified mail slips here. The staff is multilingual and can help with Vietnamese patrons as well as Spanish speaking patrons. I'm not sure about Korean, but it would only make sense in Annandale. Also, here's to you last minute mailer who has decided to mail all your Xmas gifts out on December 23 in the hopes that it will get there the morning of December 25. More power to you. read more

OMG....... Annandale PO is THE worst! I live nearby, but we always go to Merrifield PO (and almost always get remarkable service). I've got horror stories of packages sent all over the US multiple times before being delivered to the wrong address, but the latest is an Amazon order that showed 'Out for Delivery' in Annandale at 9:00 this a.m., only to be delivered 3 hours later to an address in Richmond! And in case it isn't clear, let me stress that this is much more the norm for Annandale than the exception. Do not use the Annandale PO for anything if you care about your mail. We've been going to this post office for 15 years, and have never had a problem. Staff are always friendly and courteous. The only problems I've seen are customers being rude to them, but staff members always handle it gracefully and professionally. Their are several bilingual tellers, which helps when there are customers who speak little English, but I've never found their accents to thick to understand. I've recommended this post office to a lot of people, and have gotten positive feedback. read more

When I'm next the phone rings for them to tell me my package has already left. Then they tell me to meet the delivery guy at a business. I'm here over half an hour and no guy. Terr-herr-herr-ible. This is by far the worst post office I've ever had the (repeated) pleasure of using. I do a lot of selling on eBay so I spend a day or two most weeks visiting our United States Postal Service retail outlets. This one just happens to be extremely close to my house. And extremely clusterfuct if you happen to need to use the retail counter. Luckily, I usually sell/ship small items that are heading to domestic locations, so I am usually able to use the automated postage machine. Even this machine has given me problems though. It has been broken once; another time it took my roommate's money and didn't dispense the postage thereby resulting in us having to wait in line and then wait for someone to figure out how to ameliorate the problem; and even when it is functioning properly, the APM usually has a line 3-deep of people who can neither figure out computers nor read simple sentences written in English. But all in all, the APM sure beats waiting in line! If for some reason you need to pick up a package or ship overseas (and use customs forms, then you are in for a real treat. Doesn't matter if there's 5 people in line (and there's usually about 27) and 5 people working the counter (and there's usually about 3...ok, 5, but 2 of them just walk around behind the counter and never offer any semblance of functionality), you are screwed. I swear to sweet Jesus that I've been in line with a full cup of coffee and have finished it, slow-sipping and everything, before getting to the counter. I don't know what it is, could be the combination of super-ethnic patrons and equally extranjero workers, but it seriously takes about 7min per person minimum. So if you're number 4 in line, you'll still be there for a half hour. There's a post office near my old office in Alexandria off King/395 and they only have 2 counter peeps and zero automated postal machines...and I STILL got through there in less time than the Annandale joint. Maybe I'm just spoiled though, having used the Fairfax City PO for 7 years while working out there. That place can churn through 11 customers in 11min. I love that place! read more

I really hate to give bad reviews but holy frijoles, these people are inept! In the last month they have 1)lost one of my packages. Poof, gone. Nobody knows where it went. I've been waiting over 2 weeks for something that should have arrived within 2 days. 2) the sender of the original "missing" package resends me another package. I make sure to track it. Apparently, the delivery person "attempted" to deliver the second package and "left a note". Really? Weird, because someone was home all day and no, s/he didn't even attempt to come by. Ah, dishonesty, my least favorite trait in people. Look, if you are too freaking lazy to do your job and deliver the crap you're getting paid to deliver, that's fine. Just don't lie about it. When I call the Post office and let them know that I did not receive a note or an attempt of delivery she tells me "Yeah, yeah, I know. But it's out for delivery right now. Wait, it shows it's been delivered." OK, so I log in and track it. Yep, shows as delivered. Yay! Goody gumdrops!!! Momma's happy! BUT WAIT, there's more...I get home, excited to finally receive my goodies and guess what?! There is no package waiting for me. That's right! I've been lied to a few times regarding this package delivery. Now honestly, I'm not sure how hard being a postal worker is but I assume you don't need to be a genius. Somehow the Merrifield post office manages to get my mail and packages to me...why does the Annandale one have such a hard time? Get your head out of your...well, you know how the rest goes. I would give this particular branch a negative score if it were possible. This branch seems to "lose" only the mails that contain checks. Since 2007, I have encountered multiple missing checks & packages processed by this branch. I've lived in different areas of NoVa since 1980, and had no issues with missing mails serviced by other branches. Only after I begin an inquiry, some of the checks would mysteriously be delivered, or some would not be delivered. Since the only missing mails seem to contain money, I'm deducing that someone at this post office is stealing my mail. The level of service provided by this branch is dismal at best. read more

I put my mail on hold at the end of last month and requested delivery of my accumulated mail. They left a notice without a tracking number or any items checked to make it easier to call USPS. I emailed USPS twice from their website. I signed the notice and made sure it was visible to the courier. It is now four days after when I should have received my accumulated mail and I haven't even gotten an email response. Since their hours are from 9-5, I cannot take time off of work since I used up all my vacation hours for vacation. They already have my signed permission that they can leave items at the door. This is ridiculous. Who knows how many bills or pieces of important mail I'm missing! read more
