I've reported this post office multiple times to the USPS and several city offices. Their customer service is atrocious, their employees are rude, and they just can't manage to do the one job that counts in a post office - successfully sending and receiving mail. They've lost several packages of ours when we had them sent to the post office specifically for safe keeping, and, my personal favorite, they get angry when we return looking for the same package (which they lost) more than once. One employee in particular - Janet - should be fired immediately. She yells at her staff and her customers publicly, curses frequently in front of customers, and once - when we said that we would wait until they found a package of ours that they lost - threatened to call security and have us forcibly removed. A real winner, that one. Honestly, this post office is one of the top reasons I want to leave Allston and they're the only reason I will never ship USPS again. Avoid it any way you can. read more

Absolutely abysmal. Long lines every time I go in. Postal workers completely clueless as to the the pain everyone in line is enduring. Today one of the employees turned his back and had a cellphone chat while 10 people waited in line for him to work out his weekend plans drinking Mai Tais at Revere Beach. Then my total was $2.07 so I started fishing into the Take-A-Penny collection of 30 pennies. But no! he reminded me its only take A SINGLE penny. Thank you sir, I didn't realize this is only for the $2.01's in the audience. So I gave him 3 bucks and he placed my 93 cents not in my hand like any courteous person, but nay: on the counter! GAH! I've never had a problem at this post office as a retail customer, buying stamps, sending documents with a return receipt, or picking up packages. It's in an awkward part of Allston, kind of run down, and the line is slow as can be, but stamps are stamps. Also, they are open a little later than some of the other area post offices, which is helpful. However, in the two years I've lived in Allston, I've had random pieces of mail go missing here or there. I missed a credit card payment because the bill disappeared. I got a non-payment notice for a medical bill a year after I'd been to the doctor, because the first bill never arrived. Mail with tiny typos would arrive with angry notes on it about making sure people have the "correct mailing information" and then the next piece of mail from the same sender would disappear. I've had to call my credit card and health insurance companies to specifically request special address formatting in their database to satisfy this post office. So, last week, when I'd gone two full weeks without any mail delivery whatsoever, I went to the Allston Post Office to complain to the manager about my missing mail. He was very rude and confrontational, and told me that the mailman who normally covers that route goes on vacation frequently, and that the substitute mailmen who cover the route shouldn't have to figure out which mailbox the mail goes into, and when they can't figure it out, they send it all to the dead-letter office to be forwarded or returned to sender. Isn't that the whole purpose of a mailman- he sorts out which envelopes go to which address? The manager then blamed my management company for mislabeling our mailboxes, but I checked the USPS website for mailbox specs and spoke to the management company, and the mailboxes are labeled correctly. The mailman just couldn't be bothered to check the labels and deliver the mail. Since I complained, we've still had almost no mail service and missing pieces of mail. Unfortunately, while I was at the post office complaining, all of the other people on line ahead of me were making the same complaint about their packages and mail disappearing. If you live in Allston, get your stuff delivered to work and switch to e-billing. They just don't care. read more

First off, I was trying to receive a package from eBay in the mail. Their tracking statuses for my package are misleading and inaccurate. Such as "available for pickup" which actually means available for pickup by a truck. When this status came up I went over to the post office a day after and after waiting in a ridiculous line, they told me it would be delivered that day and it was on a truck. It was not however and the tracking status was updated to "notice left". I checked my door/ mail yet there was no notice. The next day I got the same thing and a day lated I went to the post office again and what did they tell me? Its on the truck... they gave me a number to call and I explained what I did here. This is the worst post office you can imagine in the USA. I have been living in Allston for only 1 year. However, so far, 3 times I have received a notice for 3 different packages during the last one year to go and get my package from the office. All 3 times my packet was no where to be found. For the first time, I even had to file a police report. I am really fed up with the poor quality of service they provide. 50-50 shot that you get any service here. If you do, there's a decent chance it's decent. If you don't well, you got Peter. The fact that this man is still employed, (on top of some of the carriers) should be clear to all who deal with them how they are driving a money printing monopoly into the ground. Today, after receiving mail twice over a six day period, I was told that "most of your mail went with the carrier". MOST??? why not all? So I went to pick up the rest, since we are a business and depend on timely mail delivery, and got 8 pieces of mail that hadn't "made the cut". When we received the delivery, there were two pieces of mail. HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE? More importantly, this total of 10 pieces of mail, wasn't HALF of the mail that was supposed to be delivered. I had to go back and deal with them all over again to get my mail. If this wasn't enough to make my blood boil, I got to listen to PETER, who's incoherent babble about how he likes his coffee, did not spend any of the twenty minutes I was there, picking up, moving, or even looking at mail. This isn't a first, every time I have ever seen him, it's 1 minute work, 15 minutes screwing off. Worst Post Office around, the one in Brighton is clean, quick, and professional. I used to love this location. Mimi is great. She is the best thing about this branch. However, lines are frequently long, with little to no back up for the clerks, although managers will walk by and ask if anyone is just dropping off. I had an awful experience here, after shipping through this location 3xs per week. I started using the harvard branch and online services. Through exploring their website, I learned that I was shipping things for more $ than I could be paying. I was outraged because everytime I shipped an item via the Allston branch I would be astonished at the price quotes, asking different clerks multiple times if i was shipping efficiently. They all said yes and never suggested flat rate envelopes or using the usps website for FREE packing supplies at sizes not available on location that are flat rate and cost efficient. I understand that the usps is a business and needs to make $, but lying and being rude to loyal customers isn't the best business strategy! read more

Lou who works at the Allston Post Office is the very best! He went out of his way to loacte a missing package I had sent to my son. He found it and had the carrier immediately delivered it to him. He truly went above and beyond to assist us, and I can't recommend using this post office and his services more! read more

This post office was locked when I came in today. Apparently it's been closed, possibly permanently, since late December.

EDIT: If the USPS was a private business this branch would have shut down within a week. Here is an update to what you should expect when you go there. 1. An asain guy at the counter that has a sh*t eating grin all day while he doesn't help you, but manages to take 5 minutes to hit on every asain woman that walks in the door. Then he will randomly walk away from the registrar for 5-10 minutes at a time, not to find a package, just to stroll around. (i have seen this happen many many times) 2. when the line of people reaches the lobby (7-10 people) you can be guaranteed they will close at least one window, however you can look intot he back room and see that same employee chatting with friends, this happened on my last trip. I know not all employes are trained on the register but come on this is disgraceful. and be aware if you happen to ask with they could open another registrar, you will only be met with irritated blank stares from the management. The best you can hope for in this case is for one of the managers to get up from his desk, brush the crumbs off his hand and offer to get packages for folks in line with a will call ticket. IF YOU GO THERE TELL THEM THEIR SERVICE IS HORRIBLE ITS THE ONLY HOPE . make a stink about it. bad bad bad. bad service, rude at times, generally their is a line out the door. and in those cases when the line does go all the way from the lobby to the front door I have see the sales people CLOSE A WINDOW!!!!!! I saw this when I checked to see the hours of operation. People have some real psychological problems when you complain about a post office. It's owned by the government. Utterly incompetent, incredibly rude staff. I'm in an office building down the street and my company has been here for 10 years. We have an ongoing issue (usually with substitute carriers), where they simply will not try to deliver packages that require a signature. They don't leave a slip, they don't buzz us on the intercom, they don't come up to our suite. The regular carriers are good about this, but the subs simply don't care to be be bothered. I just filed a complaint with the USPS yesterday - a package I was supposed to get on Monday was flagged as "attempted" but that we weren't here (I was personally in the office), and that a slip was left (it wasn't). I requested redelivery for Tuesday and someone was in the office from 7:45AM until 6:30PM. No re-delivery was attempted, no update to the tracking. When I called the USPS to follow up I was told that it was resolved by the local office. Yet, I still don't have my package. When I brought this issue up with the manager (for the 3rd time) last year, I was told that nobody had ever complained about it. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT - multiple times. What I love about this branch is the staff. While I've only been here a handful of times, I've had a great experience every single time. They're super friendly and they seem to know some of the customers by name, (I love community feeling places!). When it's not busy, they're chatty and will laugh with you - not typical of other USPS locations period. Let's be hippy dippy and just spread peace and love y'all! They do a great job moving the line quickly, especially when customers are hemming and hawing about something or other - I love how conscious they are about long lines! This location is best accessed on foot, but there's also some street parking if you're lucky. read more

It's unfortunate that you can't really "change" post offices. I've been living about two miles from this post office for three months; in those three months, the postal carrier easily delivered my Netflix DVDs to my apartment, then all of the sudden they started returning them to Netflix as "undeliverable." They lost one of my package slips and never delivered it until I drove down to pick it up, and parking is a real challenge in that part of town. The folks behind the counter are nice, but the service isn't as transparent as I'd like. In every other place I've lived, the postal service has been an unseen, efficient presence in my life; these days I feel like I'm wielding a riding crop and trying to keep them in line. read more

It's a nice post office, usually very little line (before 3PM), and I've only encountered one staff who seemed impatient with the customers, out of 5 ish staff I think I've encountered. Lots of diversity in English accents in Allston... If they had one of those self mailing stations, it'd be amazing. Huge plus that there's usually free street parking in the mornings! read more

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The mailman dropped an orange slip in my mailbox with no instructions on whether it needed a signature, or for me to go to the post office to pick it up. Literally a blank orange package slip. A package came for me the next day, so I assumed that the mailman had decided to leave it and tossed the slip. Then it happened.....the slip was for a different package, so I went to the post office. HOLY HELL. I gave my name and address and the woman in the back said, "Oh that street? ugh. That mailman is delinquent." DELINQUENT?! Then, she went into the back to search for my package and I could overhear her and numerous other employees talking about how terrible my mailman is- several other mailmen left laughing because they clearly agreed with her. She searched high and low, but without the BLANK SLIP she could not find my package. I then said, "I thought you might be able to search for the package by name." and she replied, "Yeah, cause that would make sense but we're not there yet." She took my information and told me that the manager would be in touch by the end of the week. Guess what? Three weeks later- no call- no email- NO NOTHING. I've called and inquired twice. The package was a small necklace, so there is NO excuse for it not being delivered directly into my mailbox. I have half a mind to file a police report for theft of the necklace, but my guess is that the USPS will get away with it because they are fucking horrible people...and the mailman is a delinquent douche. I've been here twice and both times I witnessed rude behavior to other customers especially when English is not a first language. On my second visit an Asian lady "assisted" me. She didn't ask how I wanted my package sent, she just roughly told me to follow the POS/card read screen. I went through the prompts and watched as I clicked 'no' to the fragile/liquids questions, the touch screen malfunctioned. The surface area selected yes instead of where my finger was at no, I tried to explain this to the lady and she yelled at me like I didn't know how to use a touch screen. I mean, I build computers and have worked IT but, I guess I just don't know how touch screen buttons work. /sarcasm read more

Gotta give a shout out to the Ballston post office- I imagine it's not the best job in the world but they are always friendly and helpful when I'm in there. They are also open on Saturday which is really convenient for us working types. If you have a fragile item or an important international package (i.e. a bridesmaid dress en route to Canada), they are also really good about helping you with shipping options. read more

In fact, I will be calling again today to search not one, not two, not three, but 4 very important letters I know have been sent and I know to have been sent to the proper address. This is "my" post office. Meaning, this is where I must go when the postal service cannot leave a package/envelope @ my home. They are always friendly to me, sometimes they seem like they are in slow motion, other times they seem to be really happy to have a customer. I like this place, it's unchanged Americana. If i could give this post office zero stars I would. So rude. What really made me loose it was the guy standing by the door today. I saw somewhere online it said open till 6, so I got there at 5:02 and had literally just carried a heavy box i wanted to send 8 blocks to this post office. Aside from that it was super hot out and I was only 2 minutes late for their apparent closing time. People were in line and he stood by the 2 closed door near the registers and said sorry we're closed over and over again and refused to let me in. Thats really shitty customer service to be quite frank. I had just walked forever and I was obviously exhausted and only 2 minutes late with no one else in the lobby with me. I've lived in this area for 4 years and I have to say that I have not had one issue here. I was just in here and I know the holiday rush can be busy and at times frustrating, but the postal office was prepared for long lines with an additional portable cashier. PETER, is a bold white guy with thick french accent that acts like the king of the universe. Every time I come to my local post office (which is pretty frequent), I try to avoid him. This one time everybody else is on break so I have to talk to him. Note that I have been living this area for years and I have seen how PETER talks to the customers, and throw everybody's packages across the shop to the bins. (you can also read more reviews from here this is not only time his name has been mentioned) During the my time at the counter I literally didnt get through the security questions because PETER cant care less about your questions, concerns about your shipment. I tried to ask a question about my box, instead of answering a quick question, this guy keeps asking the same question again and again, and again and again, like I dont understand or speak english. Question about what? Question about my box, which is the thing i have questions about!!! After a few minutes things got tense and PETER started yelling, and started talking very slowly and loudly, like Im challenged, with 5 other customers behind me, humiliating himself in front of everybody. I was so angry so i left, but then came back right away i realize i have to ship my box, so i went back and ask PETER when Tatiana finishes her break, and this guy just plays on his phone, doesnt even look up just shaked his head, I asked one more time, he goes "I-------- DONNNNNN------T KNOWWWWW-----------" Finally someone comes out and process my box, during this time, while having another customer himself, PETER still persistently interrupts and throw shades at me, like a high school bully or something. What happened in the end, was the fragile things in my box was completely shattered, instead of just having a crack on the glass. Now im not fortune teller, but how much do you wana bet PETER destroyed it before it ever left the post office? Most of the people working here are super nice. I'm tracking a package and I see that it's status is "out for delivery or available for pickup" which is confusing enough in itself! So I call the post office to find out what that means and if maybe I can come over there and pick it up. The guy who answered the phone said no, I couldn't (which I was expecting) I asked him what the exact status was , and he said "It means that it's in the post office in a pile and it will get to you in between 1 and 5 days"!!!!!!! This post office is difficult to work with, and will not accept responsibility for lost, mis-delivered or stolen packages and mail. After going in three times over a two week period there was no record of my case, or any record that i had visited the post office to indicate that a package was misplaced or stolen. After almost a month of phone calls, escalations, etc. i was basically told that the post office was in no way responsible for the package, or my $70 loss. After a final call to the post office, i was told that the neighborhood around this post office had a close to 30% theft rate of packages. One would think this would entail a change of delivery procedures (regardless of signature confirmation or tracking status) or that the post office delivery trucks/foot people would be more intelligent in hiding packages from plain view (rather than leaning them against a front door for the world to see, and then steal.) When ordering any item i will now use the service that holds the package at the post office, and i will be shipping out any packages through other services. Hey- at least it's not the RMV. Maybe I'm just too sympathetic to the plight of Postal Workers, but I don't find this place to be that bad. Honestly, the only time I've ever been able to go is on a Saturday, but I've probably stopped in at least a dozen times (either mailing or picking up packages) and only 2-3 times has the line gone out the door. It should be noted, however, that those times were when I showed up around 1 o'clock, and they close at 2. If you show up at 9-11 on Saturday, you won't wait more that 10-15 minutes. While I've never come across the type of rudeness previously remarked upon, one should bear in mind that these people have just spent their dealing with people who naturally assume the worst from a post office. There is one woman there who is always very helpful and patient. It's not a magical wonderland of stamps and self-sticking envelopes, but it's not hell either. read more

I've been going here longer than I care to admit. Most of the staff are nice except for the Korean(?) guy, who can be a real jerk. If there's a long line sometimes they have an extra person just get packages for people with delivery slips, which is nice. I like the music they play - lots of Motown and older stuff. read more

Well, this is one of those reviews which is relative. Every post office is essentially a couple steps away from being Frustated Incorporated, but this one is typically pretty good. The staff is generally very helpful and useful; competent far above the average post office worker. as long as you don't get there right at closing time on a friday, and leave your self time to do longer things, they are always pretty rad. Nice location.. friendly customer service, I just a small issue with buying/exchanging stamps. I was still in the store when I bought some stamps, and I was told by the associate that these stamps are good until December, and if prices increase, then I will have to add more postage. I was not thinking clearly and then realized that it would have been better if I had bought the 'forever stamps'. So I tried to exchange the stamps I purchased for these forever, but the associate could not do the return. She apologized and everything, but still could not do it.
