Beware: Urbanity has a LOUD, negative and hyper-opinionated beauty salon owner. I went there for years because I was following my hairdresser (Brette) and was always uncomfortable in her chair, because the owner (Teresa) is very argumentative and confrontational. Weird, because it's Aurora, a very diverse city, but I hated being around the owner - she has strong opinions, and lets everyone know it. My stylist Brette has moved on to a new location, so thankfully I don't have to sit there and be exposed to a one-woman FOXNews. I got my hair done here for prom and I loved it! It was the average price $60, and I tipped $10. The lady, I'm sorry I didn't catch her name, was very kind and did a great job! Who tries to make a hair appointment 3 days before Christmas? I DO!!! My mom needed to have something done and on a recommendation from a few neighbor ladies I called Julie early Friday morning. It was a Christmas Miracle, she had just had a cancellation for the next day at 1. She was more then happy to take my mother. When we arrived the place was buzzing. Julie was just finishing up her last appointment and was right on time. She came and introduced herself and asked us to have a seat. I had a bit of shopping to do so I left. When I returned Mom was under the dryer and nearly ready to be finished up. I noticed the shop was clean and organized. The staff seemed very nice. Mom had commented afterwards that Julie had listened to her every request about getting her perm right down to the timing for it to first be checked. She was versed in doing older ladies styles and Mom was VERY pleased with the entire experience. I also thought Julie's price was reasonable, especially since I drop about 1 1/2 times what she was charged to get my own hair done elsewhere. read more

I had moved down from the Western Slope and I am very picking on who does my hair. I get scared when I have to have some stranger for the first time touching it. I moved back down to Denver and Carrie Walton is who I found and I have been having her do my hair for 1 1/2 years now. I live in Parker now but I will still make the drive because she is awesome at what she does. She takes the time to explain a idea that you have or a idea she has. She will never make you feel lost on any service you receive. I also like that Carrie doesn't mind if you ask her questions, that's what she is there for to make your hair wonderful. My hair is shiny and so soft. My hair has never looked or felt this good. Everything cost under $250 and was worth every penny. Teresa was very nice and knowledgeable. Refreshingly relaxing salon with a great staff of stylists! I watched a few women getting their hair done (one who was cutting off a whopping 10 or so inches for charity) and really liked the color and style that the stylists were recommending. My personal fave is Carrie Walton, she is absolutely a color expert. I followed Carrie around for years getting some trendy color styling. Then, for some strange reason (and monetary concerns) I decided to quit getting high quality haircolor. My husband's stylist offered me deals on all-over color and I stretched out the visits with color glaze. It all caught up with me recently and I realized I had ugly, multi-toned hair that MUST be dealt with. Back to Carrie, who was forgiving, and we are now on the road to recovery. She came up with a solution for highlights while we let some of my old color fade out and I can honestly say I love how it turned out. I'll do that through the summer and then this fall maybe I'll be ready for something new. Wow. Rude service. I have been wanting to go here for a while now. I called several days and no answer finally i got through and asked for an apt It took them all day to call me back for an apt. By the time they called me back and of course was to late to schedule. On the website it says walk ins welcome. With several stylist Well thats not the case. When asked if anyone had anytime one lady replied nope didnt even take the time to check and the other said i have an opening in January? Really ladies talk about RUDE service. Wow. A lady was literally sitting down on her cell phone? But no one had anytime for me at all. You Lost a returning customer!!! I have a few friends who were going to try this place because of me and now they have decided to cancel and go someplace else. I was told The ladies who do walk ins are not here. I went in here for the first time today and I had a great experience. I couldn't get through on the phone, so I just went in to get an appointment. At first, I was looked at like I was a crazy person, but then Julie offered me a slot she had open for the afternoon. She was really nice and very receptive to what I wanted. She asked a lot of questions and never got visibly frustrated by my uncertainty. I have very temperamental hair, but Julie messed around with it and double- and triple-checked the cut until it was just right. I look and feel a million times better than I did when I went in. Laura Joy is the BEST of the best! I have previously been the human that gets her hair cut once a year and barely colors it. After meeting and having LJ's help, I'm proud to say she has convinced me, and I've even come back scheduling appointments on my own (gasp!), 4 times this year so far, and we're only in September! That's a true accomplishment in my life. My cuts have been perfect and color spot on. Laura Joy makes it an actual joy to get my hair cut and washed and is officially the only stylist to blow dry and curl my hair in such a lovely way, that I don't even go home and wash it and re-style it! This place works by having you contact each hairstylist directly. I made an appointment with Tina and I ended up being disappointed. I told her exactly what I wanted but she cut my hair much shorter than I asked her to and I didn't like the layers. It wasn't terrible but just not what I'd asked for and I ended up disappointed. Valentina was amazing, please request her!!! I have attempted, as a walk-in, to go to this salon in the past over 4 times when it was with the previous owners with no luck. With that being said, I called at 5:00 p.m. on a Saturday (they close at 7) and Valentina (Tina) was the only one who would color and cut me out of the 14 girls employed there, she took her time, and was very professional as if I was there at 12:00 and had an appointment. Very disappointed! 1: very cluttered and stuffy salon its too small! 2: Sarah did a terrible job on coloring and cut! I couldn't be more clear on what I wanted had picture consultation and discussion about colors. When she was done she asked ANOTHER hair stylist to look at it to see if it was ok and the other lady said heck no...she had to tell Sarah how to get the color I wanted!! I had already been there for 3 hours. It took 5 hours to highlight my hair copper and to top it off she layered it uneven. I called her the next day to fix and she ignored my calls. 2 days later she responded only to put me off 4 more days. It's ridiculous service. She was also sloppy getting hair dye all over. It also washed out the first week!!! I was so upset that I actually put time and money into this stylist!!! Sarah did not deliver-FAIL! I jacked up my own hair by accident--I used a semi permanent "wash out" bright red dye that ended up staining my hair a muddy reddish purple. I was devastated, because it just wouldn't wash out like it was supposed to. Enter Julie Kemp, the master colorist. She removed nearly all of the staining, then did balayage highlights for me. She not only restored my hair's natural beauty, but added glorious summery shimmer to it. She followed by giving me loose curls (my go-to hairstyle) to show me the results. Okay, okay, I admit that I tried to cut my own hair today. Big mistake! It is shoulder length, and I gathered it up and, whack, whack, whack! My husband has reluctantly trimmed my hair since I grew the layers out over the last year and a half, but today I decided I could do it. Ugh. On my way to Sprouts, I took a chance and walked into Urbanity, which is within walking distance of my home. Laura Joy was available and she was awesome! She was fun to chat with AND she assessed my hair and came up with a solution. She expertly fixed my hack job and styled it. I'm sold! I experienced the absolute worst client service I could ever imagine from a salon. As a professional promotionalist and branding consultant, I love to support local businesses. So I was very excited when I discovered this salon. At first my experience here was ok. The stylist cut my hair well, but didn't style it unless I specifically asked her to. Later,when I made an appointment to have my hair colored, there ended up being a ridiculous amount of miscommunication. I made the appointment a week out and even offered to stop by and let her see what I wanted, which she declined. So when I arrived and she already seemed flustered and harried, I should have bailed right then! I showed her pictures of the style I wanted and how I wanted my hair low lighted. I got neither. I did get a hair cut that will take at least 6 months to grow out. The color was pretty, but it was in slender streaks. So it looked like I had stripes in my hair. She kept reassuring me it would look better dry, it didn't. When I told her she needed to have put more color in, she said I could come back later in the week. She still didn't actually style my hair. When she told me the amount I owed I was taken aback. Now on hindsight, I wish I had refused to pay until she fixed my color. But I never thought she would refuse to follow through. So I paid her. You know that as a woman when you leave a salon, if you are happy, then you can deal with something costing a bit more. But if you don't even like how it turned out, after bringing a picture with you. That is just so disappointing. What ensued after that is the worst client service I have ever seen in a salon. When I tried to follow up with the stylist, she refused to speak with me. So we batted around a few texts, which were civil, but where I said was frustrated. She basically said she couldn't work with me anymore. Seriously. I was shocked. I thought maybe she had a bad experience with a client in the past or something. So I called the salon and asked the manager how I should go forward. She said basically it was all my fault and she guessed this stylist is just not right for me. Which is fine. But I paid her and she didn't follow through with what she committed to and in any business that is not ok. Basically, after several more attempts to reconcile the disparaging service I was told I wasn't welcome at the salon and threatened with a lawsuit if I left them negative feedback. I considered calling a friend who is a lawyer, but knew he would laugh at how preposterous that idea is. Nonetheless, it is unfortunate that a stylist or salon would think they could treat any client in this way, let alone go so far as to threaten them. After all this I feel it would be remiss if I didn't file a complaint against this company with the BBB. I guess stylists just expect you to not return if you don't like something about their work, and it totally freaks them out if you actually try to work the situation out. Sad. read more
