OMG WOW I booked with Corinne and I'm amazed! I have never had A curly cut like this and she was awesome! She was super nice and the salon had an over all super calm and chill vibe! I have 2c/3a hair and have never really trusted people with it after multiple failed attempts at a curly cut but she genuinely amazed me! She even taught me how to style it! So my hair looks good even if I do it! I think it's also important to add that I had super long hair past my butt when I went in, so I was very concerned that she would cut more than I wanted her to, but she absolutely did exactly what I asked for! My daughter wanted to perm her hair (first time!) so after countless google & yelp searching we decided to go with Urbanity because they called me back (even tho I didn't leave a msg to generic phone vm), and we scheduled an appointment. 10am appt - no one else was in the salon, and it was very nice and chic inside. My daughter was excited and I left her there (was quoted ~ 2 hours for the perm) since she knows what she wanted done to her hair. Pics attached of the perm to this post. It was done in under two hours and when I picked her up the front was curly but I felt the back was ... not done?! We were told to let it 'air dry' and the curls are forever until her hair grows out. Few hours later after it was completely dry we still felt the back was not curly. It had a curtain of waves on top but the bottom looked like her before perm straight hair. I texted the stylist who did the perm the situation. She replied: "She honestly probably just needs a trim, as perms can be a little damaging. If you want to bring her in on friday or Saturday i can do it for her. No charge of course". My daughter was hesitant the trim would be done terribly as well, and in the end she wanted a headful of curls so we didn't go for the trim. I've been seeing Ellen here for a couple years now and I think you should too! I saw some tips saying it's hard to make an appointment but I've never had a problem. You won't get in same day (unless you're super lucky) but it's not like you're waiting a month. They're flexible. Cuts and colors are always beautiful! I like to get my brows done too. The ladies here seem so well versed in current hair trends that I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in the hair magic they pull off! My friend EGP recommended this salon, as she is a client of Julie's. She set up an appointment for me with Lauren, and we went together for cuts and color. Initially, I was a bit perturbed that they were running 30-60 minutes behind, but the weather and driving today was horrible. When I come back, I am going to book my appointment on a weekday, not Saturday, if I can avoid it. Or book the first appointment on Saturday. EGP and I were there for 4 hours. Now, I don't know about you, but for me that is far too long to be sitting in a salon. I think the time issue can be remedied though by simply being choosy with when you book your appointment. NBD in retrospect. Lauren is amazing at what she does, clearly. She seriously duplicated a cut that I have long had pinned on my Fierce Hair board on Pinterest. It's difficult to find stylists with such precise skill in cut and color, and also those who are up on current trends, especially for short hair in Buffalo. At least, that has been my experience. She did an awesome job on my cut and an awesome job on my color! Like truly, seriously awesome. She must love what she does because her work certainly reflects great passion for her craft. She cut my hair so that I couldn't see it until it was done, and I have to say, when she spun me around in front of the mirror, I was so excited and happy that I could have cried tears of joy! I felt like I had been on a makeover show! The price was beyond reasonable and I will be back again and again! I'm so glad EGP convinced me to book an appointment. I came here because of the location on Hertel and the great reviews. The reviews are right. They do a great job here. This salon has perhaps 6 chairs, although I've only ever seen two in use. I stopped in to make my appointment and it was easy to make it. Love that. And I could get in within a week. Love that too. My cut was much needed and I am happy with the results. I felt like a glamor girl leaving with my hair all blown and curled etc. It held and the next day looked great too. Prices are clearly marked and easy to see. They even do brow waxing if you want that. Parking is street meter or side street. All credit taken through Square. But of course they prefer cash. read more

I used Urbanity for my wedding hair and makeup back in October ! Karen and Julie were so professional and accommodating from the beginning. They allowed me to do trials ahead of time. The best part? They are willing to travel to your bridal party, so we were able to just relax in the hotel while getting ready. I would definitely recommend them for hair and make up! Came to Urbanity yesterday at 12 and Jodi was my stylist. She was extremely helpful, attentive and professional. She offered me water or tea right away and then as that was brewing got right to asking what would like done. I only wanted a cut and style. Beautiful cut and deep wash with a toner and conditioner. I went in this weekend super nervous because it was my first time at this salon. I was amazed at the job Karen did! She was so good at hearing out what I wanted for my hair and making it happen. I always find such happiness knowing that the people that take care of my hair actually care about how it turns out. Karen did just that! The salon itself was so cute and cozy-they offered drinks to their customers. I even enjoyed when the staff went on their lunch run they asked their customers if they would like anything as well. Karen has been cutting my hair for the last six+ years, and the last several of which have been at Urbanity. Karen does amazing things with my hair, I give her little to no direction (or I show her ridiculous photos from Pinterest) and she creates great colors and cuts that always look perfect on me. Karen also gives me great eye-brows, like really great eye-brows. She is also trying to teach me how to curl my hair, but I've more or less decided it's just easier to schedule an appointment with her to get my hair curled. Karen has also styled my hair and make-up for events, and I was thrilled with how it turned out each time. I like Urbanity as it is an easy-going and relaxed atmosphere. The girls in the salon are always trying new hair and makeup products and are always willing to share and recommend products that might work well for me. Karen is on-time, and patient with me when I am running late. She is always able to fit me in, but I religiously schedule my appointments every 5-6 weeks. Pricing is completely reasonable. Parking is easy, never an issue. My husband also see's Karen for haircuts every 4 weeks and is very happy with how she cuts his hair. No more lopsided Supercut fades for him. There's a certain amount of love and care that goes in the work Urbanity does daily. You feel it the moment you enter the room and see the modern classic furniture and decor. I've only had my hair cut by Lauren, and she takes the utmost care to make sure that my hair looks great. She'll take the initiative to suggest styles and cuts that really compliment who I am and what would suit me. They get to know you and really, really take care of you. Not only was she super sweet and personable, she gave me the perfect blow out (somehow making my hair more blonde, idk it was magic or something) and she did my makeup perfectly in 20 minutes flat! I was short on time and she was extremely accommodating in getting me dolled-up and out the door in time for my friend's wedding. I would not recommend this salon to my worst enemy. After being referred here by a college friend (last time she was here was about 2yrs ago) I decided to try it out as I am new to the Buffalo area. When I called to schedule my appointment I explained my type of hair and it's thickness, I was told that they had no problem doing hair of my thickness and texture. I showed up early and re-explained just to be safe. My hair came out horrible after 2 hrs. I was highly disappointed and cried on my way out. I called after returning home to speak with a manager about the quality of the job done on my hair for $50. She took my number and sent me a text informing me that the owner would be in contact. The owner took 2 weeks to get in contact with me and was extremely rude. I was not offered a refund or any type of compensation such as a discount off my next service or a redo. Once the owner did contact me she was not helpful, kind, or in anyway understanding. Please do not go here if you want quality service. read more

Amazing job on my frizzy, 10 times dyed hair. When I left Lauren, it looked like celebrity hair; shiny and perfectly cut. I didn't believe my hair could look that good! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I planned on using this salon to do my hair/make up on my wedding day. After paying almost $100 twice for trials and dealing with negative attitude, hostile employees and ending up looking nothing like the images I brought to reference, I chose to go elsewhere for my wedding day. No one wants to deal with rude attitude on their wedding day coupled with not getting the style even somewhat near what I requested, I expressed my concern. I was told basically 'too bad' they would not refund my deposit and hung up on. Who does that?? What reputable establishment conducts business like this???!!! Not one apology or attempt to fix anything! There was NO contract or any reason to behave this way as I calmly expressed my concerns. BEWARE! I submitted a complaint with BBB and will have to sue them. What a shame! I will tell everyone I know about this horrible experience as I would hate to see anyone else trust this salon in good faith and have an experience like mine! read more
