We are new to Jan's Health Bar and were very impressed with our first order. We tried the tuna…read moresandwich, and it was excellent--fresh, flavorful, and not overloaded with mayonnaise, which we really appreciated. It arrived in perfect condition and wasn't soggy at all. The packaging was excellent and showed great attention to detail. Based on our first experience, we highly recommend Jan's Health Bar and look forward to ordering again

While this place is super clean, bright and tidy, the reason it loses stars for me is that the name…read moredoesn't accurately represent the food offered. Smoothies and açaí bowls with loads of sugar, cream-based soups like broccoli cheese and creamy chicken with lots of fat, Have'a corn chips boasting natural ingredients but containing seed oils. The sandwiches seemed wholesome but the vegan bacon bits tasted like pure chemicals. If you stick to strictly vegetarian items you may be in good shape but there are lots of vegan ingredients in their menu options. Vegan is not always better for you (and often highly caloric) because what they use as a substitute for meat and dairy is usually ultra-processed foods like refined oils, isolated proteins, modified food starches and heavy sodium. Probably okay if you ignore the "health bar" part of the restaurant name but I feel like it's misleading if you are really interested in healthy foods. The service was subpar as well. As a vegetarian, I ordered the broccoli soup but they gave me creamy chicken instead. When I went to exchange it, I waited a bit for someone to come over and there was no apology for the mistake.

It's been a few years since I've been to Ubuntu Café, but all I remembered from my last visit was…read morethat they had an amazing almond croissant. And let's just be honest, my obsession with chai lattes and almond croissants really needs to be studied:) So, naturally, that's exactly what I ordered. I got a chai latte with almond milk, and it was creamy, frothy, perfectly spiced, and just so good. The almond croissant was every bit as sweet, buttery, and delicious as I remembered. One of the reasons I love Ubuntu Café is the location. It's right by the marina, so you get this beautiful ocean breeze while you sit outside and watch people walking by. It's one of those places where you don't feel rushed to leave. They also offered me a half order of their cheese bread, and I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it ended up being one of my favorite things. It comes with a guava and passion fruit jam, and the sweet jam with the cheesy bread sounds like it shouldn't work... but somehow it absolutely does. The thing that really stood out to me, though, was the service. Everyone was so attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful. It just made the whole experience even better. Five stars. No notes. I'll definitely be back.

Although they were busy, the staff graciously rearranged tables to accommodate our group of 11, including three little ones. Elizabeth was our server, and she was incredible. She and the rest of the staff anticipated our needs--especially with the kids--and our food and drinks arrived quickly despite the bustling atmosphere. We shared a wonderful bottle of Prosecco (served in chilled glasses!), and several of us enjoyed beautiful (and delicious!) coffee drinks. The menu was filled with so many tempting options that it was hard to choose. We all ordered something different, and every dish was outstanding. I'm still dreaming about the delicious chicken grain bowl I ordered and can't wait to try recreating it at home! Ubuntu truly lives up to its reputation as the "greatest neighborhood café." The warm, welcoming, and very kid-friendly atmosphere made us feel right at home. Our little ones especially loved exploring the peaceful water feature out front and searching for the little plastic duckies throughout it. The café is also perfectly situated overlooking Will Rogers Mini Park and Colorado Lagoon, making for a beautiful setting. Ubuntu gets an A+ for food, service, and ambiance. We can't wait to return the next time we're in Long Beach!

A great alternative to Porto's!…read more I bought a wide variety of empanadas here, including the breakfast and burrito flavors, and they were all incredibly savory and delicious. You have the option to buy them frozen to save for later, but they honestly taste best when you eat them fresh right at the bakery. A quick tip if you order online: Make sure to go straight to the front and let one of the many employees know you are there for a pickup. They only call out names for in-person orders, so you'll be waiting a while if you don't speak up! I also tried their new seasonal sandwich--the pulled pork melt and the very popular nonseasonal sandwich crispy chicken sandwich. Both were very filling and packed with flavor. Just make sure to eat these fresh, as they will likely get soggy if you try to save them for later. They have a great selection of desserts and coffee drinks that I didn't have room for this time, but I'll definitely be saving those for my next trip to Long Beach. If you're looking to try something a little different from the usual spots like Porto's, I highly recommend checking this place out. I will definitely be returning to try more flavors!

Parking - Free in a shared large parking lot, plentiful We were both intrigued by their potato balls, empanadas, and breakfast burrito in which we ordered 4 potato balls (2 chicken/2 beef), 2 empanadas (1 chicken, 1 beef), and 1 breakfast burrito to share. Our order came out in about 10 minutes or so, not too busy. Total came out to about $42 which is quite expensive for the amount of items in my opinion. 1. Potato Balls - By far my favorite menu items from the visit, they weren't as crispy/crunchy as Portos but they're bigger. Portions are big and it's filled with your choice of filling, very delicious, highly recommend 9/10 2. Empanadas - Usually I love empanadas but these were a bit disappointing on my end. They were softer than empanadas that I usually have, although delicious still but definitely not my favorite from the bakery. 6.5/10 3. Breakfast Burrito - Talk about portions, this breakfast burrito is loaded with ingredients, eggs among many other ingredients, super flavorful and savory. It does have a bit of a kick to it which adds to the taste, pretty good! 8.5/10 Overall, a solid brunch spot, although a bit expensive, it's still worth to check them out. Pretty decent tasting potato balls, breakfast burrito is big in portion and delicious as well, along with their empanadas which can be a hit or miss depending on the style of empanadas you like. Definitely a good spot for a snack even if you're in the area.

The QR code was for a Free Entree w/ purchase once the restaurant opens. Not one to pass up free food, I made sure to use my phone to scan & sign up. Once open, I was ready to check out Mendocino Farms for the first time. The menu at Mendocino Farms consists primarily of sandwiches, salads & soup. After a quick perusal, I thought the Peruvian Steak sandwich best whet my appetite. Peruvian Steak sandwich- Spicy aji amarillo marinated steak with Oaxacan cheese, herb aioli, red onions, tomatoes, shredded romaine on a toasted potato roll. I quite liked this. Tender steak, with fatty cheese. The vegetables provided contrast & texture. For my purchase, I went with a side of Southern Potato Salad. It was good, but similar to grocery deli potato salad. In hindsight, I should've purchased avocado added to my Peruvian Steak sandwich. Service was excellent. All hands were on deck, as Mendocino Farms opened only a few days prior. Each employee had a name badge, specifying their name & which entree was their favorite, helping indecisive customers choose what to get. Plenty of seating indoors & al fresco. Parking is at LBX, with Mendocino Farms being across Georgia's and facing the Hangar at LBX. I found the Peruvian Steak sandwich delicious, yet meager in quantity, considering the regular price. It's more of a substantial snack, than a full meal, in my case. However, it's great to have another quality food option in the area, and I look forward to coming back & exploring the rest of menu.

We asked if she could wipe down one of the dirty tables and she suggested another table but was next to a large party of teens. ( too much for my 82 year old mom who can't see or walk all that well) Jahie suggested the back/side of the restaurant and it felt more like a break room with a couple employees eating along with other employees cleaning out these large stacked containers and all of them chatting amongst each other. Reeeeally disappointed in her lack of care or consideration. One odd thing...the silverware didn't have a knife included...just a fork..so I ended up eating with my hands. Hopefully it was an off day...had to deduct points for the complete lack of customer service. This was after we already tipped :(
