It was difficult finding a good turf company. I asked a hand-full of people in the neighborhood who they used and almost all of them did not recommend who they used. Although the workmanship was good, the one common thing they all said was that "they didn't do what I wanted them to do." I actually experienced what that meant when I had estimates done. I had spoken to 3 companies prior to calling Urbane. 2 of the companies were clowns. They said what I wanted to hear. I didn't even consider them. The price they quoted was competitive though. A friend of mine used the 3rd company. I didn't like them since they were not receptive to my ideas or concerns (exactly what my neighbors described). They gave me a quote which was much higher than the first two. Funny thing was that they kept dropping the price as days/weeks went by. Another one of my good friends recommended Mark from Urbane and gave me his number. I didn't want to call him directly so I messaged them through Yelp which I didn't even know you could do that. Sara responded back and asked for my name and number so someone could contact me. I provided it but never got a call. So I called her and she apologized and said it was completely her fault. I told her it was no big deal. She said that someone (Mark) would call me back that day. Mark did reach out that day and we scheduled a time to meet. He came out and was completely receptive to my questions. He gave me some options. I had several concerns relating to the neighbors house which he addressed. My neighbor has several rain gutter drain pipes draining into my yard and a sewage pipe protruding out. The underground plastic pipes are in need of replacement also. He told me he would have to have his foreman Guillermo look at it since he didn't know the answer. I really appreciate the honesty since the last company told me to get rid of them as I didn't need them. Guillermo came out the next day and looked at them. He said he would replace the pipes for me and they are in fact needed. Now here comes the worst part of all.....the job estimate/quote. Mark already hinted that it wasn't going to be cheap. I jokingly told him to keep the cost down. Got the quote the next day and it was already $3000 above the last company (the one that kept dropping the price quote) that i didn't want to use. Mark also said the quote would go up slightly if I need additional material which was understandable. I decided to go with Urbane for several reasons. The recommendation from my buddy was first and foremost and the fact that Mark was a good salesman. Lol. I'm pretty good at reading people and Mark appeared to be honest and genuine. When he didn't know the answer he told me he would find out. He didn't try to BS me. He also communicated with me after hours when I had a few more questions about some ideas. Guillermo and crew came out and did the job. He was really easy to work with. He handled all the issues and questions I had. His crew also cleaned up after themselves each day before they left. I actually wanted a little more work done while they were there. Mark and Guillermo both accommodated me. They gave me a reasonable price to do the added work. Although expensive, I am happy with the quality work that Urbane provided me. Everyone at Urbane that I interacted with was very nice and pleasant to talk to--Mark, Guillermo, Sara and Virgil (who talked to me after hours at his kid's football game). read more

We just had our backyard done by Urbane Artificial Greens and couldn't be happier! Our dogs kept digging holes in the grass and there was so much dirt and dust everywhere that it was driving me crazy. I knew something had to be done before it started raining, so I reached out to 10 companies for estimates (I filtered Yelp results based on best customer review). I didn't know much about artificial turf and figured the cost would be about 5k for our very small backyard (wrong!). Of the 10 companies, I got 7 responses and only 2 actually took the time to come out to physically look at my yard and talk to me. Some companies didn't even ask if I have dogs, they just gave me a blind estimate with one turf option. I met w/Mark and he thoroughly explained the process and the turf options, which was incredibly helpful. I had initially wanted a much longer blade for aesthetic reasons, but he explained that because I have dogs who play rough; it would make more sense to go with a shorter more durable blade. I also had no idea how much work goes into the installation. I picked this company because I was impressed with Mark, he provided excellent customer service and was super responsive when I had questions, & because another reviewer indicated he had dogs and his turf was holding up great. The pricing was competitive, my yard is only ~450 sf and all of the estimates ranged between 7-10k. This estimate was the only one that included gopher wire, weed block fabric and Enviro infill. Installation took 2 days. Gabriel was the lead, crew was awesome. They did a great job and were meticulously clean. My biggest fear was that my dogs wouldn't like it. However, they LOVE it!! As soon as I let them back there they spent about 30 minutes rolling around and then played and wrestled until they were so tired they passed out. They tried to dig up part of the turf around our lemon tree, but the installers did such a good job that the dogs weren't able to do any damage. read more

We were put in touch with Urbane by the company that manufactures the one specific artificial turf our HOA has pre-approved because we were hoping to get the installation done quickly, and HOA approval is usually the biggest holdup. I first spoke to Mark on Thursday 3/21 and explained that if at all possible, we'd like to have the job completed by 4/10 before houseguests arrived, otherwise we would schedule for sometime after 4/22, when the guests left. That was the beginning of what was easily the smoothest and most perfectly-executed home improvement project anyone could ever hope for. The site inspection was done on the morning of Tuesday 3/27. Mark answered all of my questions, made suggestions and explained clearly why he recommended the things he did, and I had the bid in my hand the same day. The pricing was extremely reasonable, and the work was scheduled to be done the following week, Friday & Saturday 4/6-4/7. Unfortunately, the weather forecast had other plans because, in a 10 day span of otherwise clear sunny weather, those two days were predicted to be rainy. I emailed on Monday to find out what the next available installation date would be. Urbane had also been monitoring the forecast and I got a call from Sarah to ask if doing the work on Wednesday & Thursday would be possible, before they even saw my email. The installers showed up on Wednesday morning, exactly when they said they would. Virgil called that morning to let me know the base rock delivery that was supposed to happen between 10-noon would instead happen around 8:30, which it did. The installers, Gabriel and another gentleman whose name I didn't get (that I feel terrible about not getting, so if you're reading this I'm so sorry), were fantastic. They answered the few remaining questions I hadn't previously covered with Mark, made sure they understood all the small details about the installation that were specific to our yard, and were very nice to and patient with my high-strung rescue dogs who do not take kindly to strangers being in their yard. The installation was beautifully done, I know intellectually that there are seams in that turf somewhere but I doubt I'll ever be able to spot them, and they cleaned up the entire yard thoroughly at the end of the project, even taking a moment to put the patio chairs back around the table after I'd moved them to the side to keep them out of the way while they were working. Of all the wonderful things about this transaction, what stands out for me the most is the communication. I knew every step of the way what was happening. I knew what was going to happen next, and when it would happen, and if anything changed, I was told well beforehand. I've worked with a lot of contractors, both as a homeowner and previously when I worked in real estate, and I know things happen/change/go wrong, but the mistake too many companies make is not keeping the client informed. Urbane does not make that mistake. They back up their quality product and technical skill with outstanding customer service and communication. I highly recommend you call them first if you are considering artificial turf, because it will probably be the only call you have to make. read more
