I reached out to about 10 contractors for quotes and Juan's bid was in the mid-range. From the first walk-through, he was knowledgable and asked questions to help me understand what my options are. Unlike some others, he was never pushy and that made me feel more comfortable about working together going forward. He estimated that the entire project (leveling the backyard, building a short wall, French drain, and adding gravel) would take 2 weeks and they finished ahead of schedule. Juan and his crew landscaped our backyard and installed a new front lawn after we got our pool removed. We were working with a landscape architect who provided the designs. The crew installed all the plants, decomposed granite, and irrigation perfectly. Our architect also commented that she really liked the crew and that Juan in particular was very knowledgeable. Not to mention Juan is just a really nice guy and was open to the small changes we had to make as we were doing installation. In total it took three weeks to complete the entire project. His crew was great and Juan also works with them, he doesn't just only project manage. He was here all day nearly every day with the crew. It's a small company but they do great work, pay attention to detail like grading, and clean up after themselves every day. We brought a design to him and he found plants that perfectly matched what we were after. We continued to use his services for gardening maintenance once the job was finished. Juan and his team redid our patio with installation of pavers, flower beds, sprinkler system, replace fence etc. The work was well done with the exception of the fence where there are gaps we didn't notice (our bad). They were professional, timely, polite and very friendly. The work was done around end of June early July. No complaints. However, .... Juan promised us that he would stop by 2 or 3 months later to check on the plants and the drip irrigation system to make sure the plants are doing well and adjust the system if necessary. We think we have a problem with the Japanese maple ( the leaves are brown and don't look healthy). We messaged him around mid October asking him to stop by sometime to check the maple tree. This is long overdue, but considering the holiday season, my delayed review is understandable. My project, which started as just a walkway upgrade (pavers) turned into something too much for me to handle. I looked around on Yelp and other local sites for suggestions. I had probably 4 or 5 businesses return my call. The other companies either didn't return my call, or took too long to respond. Not only was KB Landscape (Juan) the first to respond, but he showed up immediately to give an estimate. I like it when a business shows how important you are to them as a customer by making you feel like you're their priority. Juan was great to talk to. He listened to what I wanted, gave suggestions, and gave an honest, and very fair quote. So fair, in fact, that I decided to have my driveway done at the same time! Juan and his crew moved quick, removing all of the concrete and dirt into a debris box and then hauling it away. The process took about two weeks, which is to be expected. When completed, my wife and I were so happy. Everything turned out better than we could have imagined. KB Landscape did a great job on our Backyard Project as we spent more time at home due to the pandemic! Juan and his crew completed a two terrace wall in our hilly backyard, added irrigation pipes, put in new soil as well as replaced our railroad tie steps to our upper patio that was ~ 20 years old and falling apart. Juan was very quick to give us a very competitive quote...his demeanor was kind and non-pushy...and once we made a decision to go with him, he was very swift in responding to our questions via text. Though the project took longer than expected due to pandemic related delays, we were equally in no particular rush. We were especially impressed when Juan had his crew redo a few of the railroad tie steps to put in an extra step for better ease of climbing (without our asking for it). That showed a very conscientious nature of someone who has pride in their job and in doing very high quality work (especially when we often see people take short cuts and do inferior work). For that, we would give an extra star! The two terraced walls were also well done and the curvature of the design and color scheme turned out just as we had envisioned it. Since the completion of the project, we were able to place some fresh tanbark, plant a few plants and decorate it with solar lights, autumnal haystacks and pumpkins. We look forward to decorating it seasonally! In the spring, we plan to call Juan to help us select and plant flowers and fruit trees for a more robust garden! read more

We have a typical rectangular yard in the Sunset district of SF that badly needed landscaping. We hired KB Landscape to remove a large expanse of old cement as well as a short brick wall. Juan and his crew laboriously cracked and hauled out all the old cement, prepared new planting areas for drought tolerant plants surrounded by a river rock mulch, a large area for artificial turf rimmed with pavers, and another area for new concrete. He also constructed 3 very sturdy redwood planter boxes, a trellis for a climbing jasmine, and installed new irrigation for all the plants in the yard. Juan had some great landscaping ideas and definitely knows his plants. His primary goal is client satisfaction, and he always went the extra mile to ensure that we were pleased with the outcome.
