Up until this spring, I have nothing but amazing things to say about Urban Tailz- recommended to co-workers, friends and neighbors, several of whom still use their services... but as of late, the level of service has been trending in the wrong direction. I am hoping this is temporary, but it seems as though they are shifting their focus to prioritize standing/reoccurring walks and dealing with some issues on the scheduling side (including the recent departure of Alison, who was their awesome main POC for clients). As someone with a very fluid work/travel schedule, this is a pretty big factor for me. After 2 years of using them as my primary walker, they abruptly changed their policy to require days of advanced notice to request walks (48-72 hours), without giving owners any formal communication on this change. While its understandable for businesses to change policy over time to fit customer demand, I am a little aggravated that it was done without formal communication to customers (just a note in the app home page). Additionally, the walkers have seemed to be turning over more frequently as of late... one of my newer walkers has left the door unlocked twice in the past two months (I do have two locked doors with keypad to access my home, so just one being open was not the biggest concern, although it may be for some). Consistency was one of the reasons I loved UT, so I am sad to see that go too. I truly hope this is just bump in the road, but just be aware that some older reviews (prior to 4/2024) may not reflect the current service model. read more

I hate writing a bad review, especially after having met the manager who was very friendly. We previously moved from another walking service due to change in ownership and selected Urban Tailz. Positive: they take a lot of pictures and leave detailed notes. Negatives (I'm just stating facts vs. a rant) - a lot of changes of walkers / no consistency - with no consistency we'd get notes like "Ellie (our older dog) wanted to go on second walk..." which we would have (and have depending on the walker) happily paid for - we have a puppy and an 7.5 year old mixed breed; sometimes he didn't poop and I was hoping they would see that and try to make the second walk based on if he did / did not poop on the first walk - we were having misgivings about them for past few weeks but I dismissed those at part of challenges of raising a puppy I would say if you have an older dog(s) this is probably an ok service to use but I don't recommend them for a puppy (More attention should be paid to what the puppies do / do not do during a walk and adjusting accordingly) But today set the bar for why I would have reservations using this Company. The walker came at 10:30am-ish and our 5 month old puppy didn't poop on that walk....by 2pm I started getting nervous...(we have two walks scheduled per day) so rather than hope he didn't poop in his crate (we've had more accidents with this walking Company over our 13 years of being a dog parent, and that includes two dogs of puppy age) I hopped on the train from the office to ensure our puppy did not have an accident. We live on a busy street in Lakeview East) and the lockbox they use (and note we switched to a lockbox that they said needed to be replaced though had not had any issues with) was not only unlocked but it was open with the key hanging out. We have been using Urban Tailz for our heartworm positive pup, Kona, for a few months now. Since we're both working from home we haven't needed a regular daily/weekly walking, but Urban Tailz has been so wonderful and accommodating for the several times we've needed a single walk. Having a heartworm positive dog going through treatment means extreme exercise restrictions. Too much excitement could be threatening. Needless to say, we were very nervous about getting a walker to take her out for bathroom breaks while we were out of the house for longer than 3-4 hours. Alison, an Urban Tailz manager, took the time and care to go over all the special circumstances for Kona. She was very understanding and accommodating for our last minute request. After chatting with her, we felt confident that Kona would be in good hands. Edin has been taking Kona out since we first started with Urban Tailz and has been nothing but wonderful. At the end of his visits, he sends a detailed report of the visit and a few adorable photos of our girl! He's happy to feed her if we ask and uses the extra time (since Kona can't walk for the full 30 minutes) to give Kona lots of attention and belly rubs. We rest easy now knowing that she's in good hands while we're away. Another great benefit for Urban Tailz is that they use a super user-friendly app. The app allows you to request services, pay invoices, send messages to your walker, view all your walk reports, update your profile (with all the details you could possibly want to share about your pet). I have used Urban Tailz for almost 11 years now, and they walk our 15 year old cocker spaniel daily. As a company, I could not be more thrilled with them. As time and technology has progressed over the last decade, they have updated their website/services and most things are electronic now. This makes it easy when I need to cancel or schedule dog walks or when I need to reach my dog walker. Their system also allows you to enter any specific information/traits/quirks about your dog - in case a different walker has to come for a day. While individual dog walkers might have changed for us over the years, we still receive excellent service from each walker. They've always left us notes about our dog's progress as well as if they noticed anything peculiar on the walk. I especially love the new system with Urban Tailz where our dog walker, Emilio, posts pictures to my husband and I every day of their walk. It's wonderful to see the pictures when I am at work and know that our "baby girl" is being taken care of so well. Emilio has been with our family for the last year, and I cannot speak highly enough about him. I know Pralines is in great care with him every day. Our doorman has also come to know our various dog walkers over the years and has reported to me how wonderful they are. He sees our dog with Emilio each day and has made several comments to me about how Emilio sees the walk "as more than just a job". He always "take such care of Pralines" and spends a lot of time with her. In the past, if our dog walker had to take any time off, our normal walker or Carine will take the new walker out with Pralines for a "trial walk". For many dogs that might not be needed, but with our sometimes high maintenance dog that is much appreciated. Carine is now part owner of Urban Tailz, but she was our first walker back in 2006 and really took the time to meet Pralines and learn her "traits." I loved that she (and Urban Tailz) actually did this. I've always felt 100% comfortable with Urban Tailz coming into my home when I was not there and taking Pralines for a walk. Most definitely the best dog walking service out there! I have a mini pinscher who has severe anxiety and is scared of other dogs. Our walker Erik is extremely accommodating to his condition and makes sure he has the best stress free walk ever by avoiding high traffic areas in the neighborhood. Flaky like all the other pet sitting services here in Chicago. They assured me I would never have to worry about not having sitting services for my pets as long as I gave them enough notice. They LITERALLY said "that's the benefit of working with a service like us, we always have enough sitters so that is never a problem." I specifically asked them about the holidays as well at that time and again was told that would not be an issues as long as I gave enough notice. Shortly after that, I had to cancel another service but told them I would definitely use them in the future and they still obviously had me listed in their system. I then requested holiday services 4 and 5 months out and was told I'm not considered a customer and that they can't guarantee services for them for the holidays because of that. This change in their policy was never mentioned ahead of me following up after they took several days and still hadn't said anything. They then conveniently said they were JUST following up with me to tell me they can't guarantee it (yeah right - I doubt I would have heard from them until November 20 telling me they can't watch them) and they had changed their policy MONTHS ago. Honestly not a cute look and not a company I feel I can trust even if they are able to make it work. I get they don't have infinite sitters but don't lie to your customers or to your not-customers as I was very pointedly called out as. They have some customer service and operations issues to work out and until that's sorted I have no interest in this business. read more

I have no idea why it has taken me SO long to write a review -- I have been a VERY happy customer for almost 3 years! We brought home Jordyn from a rescue on a sunny Saturday afternoon, three years ago this June :) That Sunday night, I realized, "What's going to happen when I go to work tomorrow morning?!" I was/am a first time dog owner and had no idea what I had gotten into (but that's another story lol)... So, I knocked on the door across the hall -- knowing my neighbor had a yellow lab and worked full time. When she answered the door, my neighbor raved about her dog walking service, Urban Tailz: "Tailz with a Z!" I contacted them, they came over the next morning to meet myself and Jordyn, and we have been happily acquainted ever since! My favorite things about Urban Tailz: 1.) They are reliable -- and flexible! That's a difficult combination, if you ask me! Our schedule is hectic and inconsistent (my fiance and I both now work from home, but often need last minute walks to head downtown for appointments). By simply sending an email, they always accommodate and come through for us. 2.) 9 out of 10 times, we have the same walker, Matt. And boy is he hilarious! I have taken the notes that he's left and showed them to friends -- just to share the laugh! I have ran into Matt on a few occasions (walking my neighbor's dog or other dogs in the neighborhood), and I can see how much he loves "J-Dog" (as he calls her) and how much she loves him! This past Easter, we had Urban Tailz house-sit while we traveled to visit family. Matt wasn't available :( But it gave us a chance to meet Carmen! She came over a week or so ahead of our trip. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Urban Tailz, and, more importantly, our seriously amazing dog walker Francesca. More specifics below, but we switched from a blah walker to Francesca, who LOVES Shyla, and vice versa. Shyla whines and tail wags like crazy when she see Francesca - she loves, loves walking with her. Shyla is also not the easiest dog - an 80 lb Rottweiler with leash reactivity issues, and Francesca has taken this and helped Shyla succeed on every walk! No issues ever, and willing to work with our harness and now easy head leader. She has a big, wild dog herself, so knows how to set Shyla up for success, and for that I cannot thank her enough. She also goes above and beyond, loving up on Shyla with extra belly rubs when asked, and lots of treats I provide. Also, rather than notes I asked for pictures and text about the walk, and she gladly indulges me - love getting pics of Shy midday, and knowing exactly when Shyla was last walked so I know whether I need to hurry home. Francesca is amazing. Terrific. The best! As for Urban Tailz, booking/cancellation/payment etc. is such a breeze with their online system. They are SO SO accommodating and always respond very quickly to any request. They seriously are wonderful - small business caring about customers and providing the best customer service. This is a company that other small dog businesses should emulate. (And I have used a few others, including multiple dog daycares, and most could learn a thing or two from Urban Tailz!) --- Like other reviewers, we had another dog walker that our girl, Shyla, wasn't too thrilled about. The other walker was nice enough, followed directions, etc., but she was never excited about Shyla. (EG, I I was home one time and she came in wearing her headphones, didn't even speak to or engage with Shyla, but instead just put on the leash and started walking out door. When I said "hi," she pet Shyla and was fine, but just not that into Shyla at all.) Shyla also started hiding from her and even growling at her sometimes, which caused concerns... so I started looking around. Comes in Urban Tailz. So Shyla is a Rottweiler, very persnickety, sometimes a brat, and quite strong with some leash reactivity. I let Urban Tailz know, and they said they had the perfect walker and were willing to work with me. Luckily they sent THE amazing Francesca who Shyla absolutely LOVES (and Shyla does not love just anyone, especially when mom/dad aren't home). I will say that like most pet lovers, I am crazy about mine. So going into this review I want to admit that I am a little obsessed with my two dogs and I am aware of this fact. Given this, I would not trust nor recommend Urban Tailz more. We use them twice a day to walk our Rhodesian ridgeback and our black lab mix and we also use their sitting services for when we're out of town. Firstly, our Rhodesian ridgeback is the most stubborn and emotional dog known to man. So the fact that we finally found a dog walking service that is not only patient with her but also gets her to walk is incredible! I receive detailed messages and pictures of their walk and will also often get updates that our dog walker Erik has brought another four legged friend along - which we love to encourage as it helps incentivise both our dogs to walk further and provides more social interaction for them. The sitting service is equally as high of a standard. I wouldn't trust anyone else to look after both my dogs more than urban tailz. Not only are they respectful of your home but they make sure your dogs are constantly seen too, whether that be taking them out on day adventures or buying more dog food because you ran out. They also send regular updates and pictures whilst you're away, so you know your little ones are looked after. I 100% would recommend Urban Tailz to anyone especially those who are just as crazy about their pooches as I am of mine. read more

We have been using Urban Tailz since July, and Lorena does a great job with our English Bulldog. Whenever Phoenix gives her a hard time, she lets us know with great and detailed messages, but I think now that Phoenix knows her better they are doing really well together. I love that the same person walks our dog each time. The Hubs and I have very strange schedules that change a lot, and Urban Tailz is always totally flexible and understanding. I'm a bit of a Nervous Nelly about leaving my dog Lily with anyone (mainly because shes slightly crazy), but due to my work schedule, it was necessary for me to find a dog walker during the day. I called Urban Tailz and Carine came to my house a few days later to meet Lily and discuss the logistics of the deal. They have a minimum of 2 walks per week and its $12 per 30 min walk, which is super reasonable. Carmen is my dog walker. She is probably the most dedicated, kind and persistent person I have met. First meeting didn't go so well, Lily (not surprisingly) did not like Carmen. But Carmen came on her day off to meet Lily when I was home. She really made an effort to make Lily feel comfortable, and now, Lily really enjoys her walks. Carmen always leaves nice notes and gives my dog treats as well. I appreciate her professionalism as well as her kindness toward my self-admittedly totally psychotic dog. The best thing about Urban Tailz is their flexibility. I can add walks if necessary the same morning I need them. I can change the time of my walk if I know I'm going to be home later than usual. They are extremely accomodating with scheduling changes. I used to travel a lot and leave my dog with family and friends, but she seemed to be traumatized by the experience. So this time, since my trip was shorter I decided to look for a reputable pet sitting service to take care of my dog for the first time. The walker I had didn't leave a very detailed note about how things went (she only wrote that they went on walks and that my dog went both #1 and 2), but I was satisfied because my dog was very well-adjusted and happy when I came home, which is unusual for her whenever I have to leave town. Overall the service is great; they managed to have one consistent walker for my dog while I was away. I met with Carine, a coordinator who was not going to be the walker, before my trip, but since my dog is pretty easy-going with anyone I didn't mind. It would probably be good to specify that the dog walker also be present for the first visit if you do have a more nervous dog, so you can gauge if your dog is going to get along with the walker or not. Me and my pup recommend Urban Tailz to all the pet parents out there! I have used them for over a year since adopting my dog and have never had a complaint. They have always been able to accommodate last minute changes to my dog's walking schedule, as my work schedule changes, which I really appreciate, and they're always really communicative. Their app is super easy to navigate- you can schedule, chat with your walker or management team, and pay your bill. They also send you photos throughout the walk, and then a report at the end with a map of the walk and a summary of how your pet did! Very clear instructions were given to Erik and Paige. An email was sent to Erik and posted in their web portal. Paige and I went over my instructions in person. A printed list of instructions was left in my home. Paige did not follow instructions. She did not change the drinking water. She left the lights on. She double locked the door after I specifically told her not to double lock the door, presenting a security issue in my building and a danger to my cat if there was a emergency. Urban Tailz decided they would implement their own particular policies rather than following my instructions. I did not request that you be concerned for my safety - idiotic reply! I gave Paige specific instructions about my lock! It is double locked when she walks out. . You are incompetent! She left a light on for your safety when arriving home, as well as making sure Allie wasn't left alone in the dark. We also always tell our sitters to lock both locks when leaving a home because leaving only one lock locked is not safe. We believe all locks should be locked for our pet's and our client's safety. Unfortunately, we don't believe we are a good fit for you moving forward. There is no charge for the visit Paige did so there is no payment due on your end. We apologize that we did not live up to your standards, but we know Allie was well taken care of Paige while you were away. I am very disappointed with the service Allie and I received on September 27, 2019. Paige did not give Allie her ice as I instructed. I am not sure if Allie received clean water. Paige left my kitchen light on. Paige double locked my front door making it difficult for me to enter. We went over the lock procedure during her meeting with me. I left the complete printed instructions near the cleaning products and Allie's box. I do not want Paige back. She does not pay attention. Service has been cancelled. read more

We used Erik when we were out of town for a week and really felt comfortable with him. He sent reports and photos everyday and was really communicative. One of our cats even had accidents outside of the liter box and he cleaned it up and checked around for accidents on other days. He even helped bring in our packages, and came back later to bring it in because it hadn't arrived by the time he came to check on the cats that day. When we got home, everything was in great shape with their liter boxes, food, and water. We will definitely be using Erik again!! read more

I've only been using Urban Tailz for a short time and can say that they're great! I was stuck in the suburbs and needed a last minute dog walker to take care of my dog.
