We found this place on "The 13 Best Coffee Shops in Atlanta" list from Infatuation after leaving the GA Aquarium and needing caffeine and snacks before an afternoon roadtrip heading back home. This place certainly lived up to its billing. We came in with a crew of 4 kids who weren't in the mood to sit still (or quiet) and the friendly staff (and gracious patrons) took great care of us, getting us on our way with full bellies and ready for our long trek. I was on the hunt for a nearby coffee shop and this was the first place that came up. I'm really glad I got to try this place. This is a black-owned, LGBTQ-friendly coffee shop. I was lucky and got a free parking spot on the side street. There's only 3 spots reserved for Urban Grind patrons but there's plenty of paid street parking right in front. I wasn't sure what to order but they have a QR code of the menu. I'm not a coffee person but love tea, and I really loved seeing they have tea lattes, which you can choose your type of tea for, as well as chai and matcha too. I went with the chai latte with oat milk which was absolutely delicious and came out nice and hot. It's honestly one of the best chai lattes I've had in Atlanta. In total with tip, it cost $8-9. I decided to stay at the coffee shop and work. It wasn't crowded (came late morning on a weekday) and I was able to get a spot by the windows. The WiFi works great and the seats were comfy. The music is a little loud so if you have to hop on a meeting where you need to unmute, you'll likely need to step outside. I want to add that they have a printer here, which is really awesome and not something I've seen at other coffee shops. The gentleman behind the counter gave excellent service, explaining all the options and answering our questions as we took our time deciding. Another week, another trip to a Black-owned coffee shop. This time I stumbled upon this cute spot called Urban Grind. Let's get into it! Location and Parking They're located right in the heart of West Midtown, on Marietta street. There is a small (and I do mean small) section of free parking. Otherwise you have to find street parking, which is metered and was $5 for a couple hours. Venue and Atmosphere The space has a cute and comfy feel to it. I did notice that there were more couches than actual tables and chairs, which if you have a laptop can be a bit difficult to do your work on. There were plenty of outlets for those in the shop, and of course the WiFi was free to use. Food and drinks The food and drinks were both really good. I got the white mocha, of course with extra syrup and it was amazing. For food I had the Classic Grind & Co with bacon. It was all cooked perfectly and the croissant was soft and buttery. Service Service was quick easy and efficient. The staff were friendly and helpful and had no problem walking us through the menu and offering suggestions. Verdict I had a good cozy time here. I was able to get a lot of work done, with some good food and coffee in the meantime. I'd come back for sure, just gotta see if I can get that free parking lol. Until next time! read more

Such a great spot to work! I ventured out of my apartment recently on the hunt for a nice spot to work at for a few hours and stumbled upon Urban Grind on Yelp. Black-owned and operated, this cozy spot is definitely a new favorite of mine. Upon arrival, I was so lucky to grab a parking spot right outside of the cafe for an hourly fee. When I entered, there were already a number of patrons inside but it was cozy and quiet, perfect for a morning of tasks. I grabbed a hightop seat in the corner that offered an outlet right under the table, really allowing me to get plugged in and settled. When I went to the counter, the barista was such a sweetheart. We chatted a bit and she made her recommendations, leading me to order 3 coffees that morning! All were delicious and made just right. When ordering, there was another woman behind the counter and she just *looked* like she knew what she was doing lol. I asked her if she was one of the owners and she was. It's always great to see owners and managers working hard alongside their team! She gave me some breakfast recommendations and all of them sounded delicious but I ended up going with a croissant breakfast sandwich. Stellar choice. The sandwich was hot, cheesey, the croissant was so flaky and soft - wow. I tore that thing UP. I ended up sitting and working for about 5 hours in the shop with no disruptions. I didn't feel rushed out and the barista checked on me every so often to see if I needed anything. A couple of days out of the week, I like to work remote at a coffee shop. Making my way through back owner ones, I tried Urban Grind. I was almost discouraged from the reviews but, I like to judge establishments for myself. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the barista and was even complimented. Lunch was about to be served so I just ordered a Lavender Vanilla Iced Latte for the moment until I was hungry for lunch. The latte was delicious and flavorful. Around noon, I went ahead and ordered lunch which was a Turkey Bacon Club and a bag of chips. The panini was definitely cheesy ( as you can see). The shop itself is a little "intimate". There were extra tables on another side of the shop but, they didn't seem to be available to sit. Therefore, most customers were kinda packed together. If you are taking a few minutes I would definitely suggest background noise cancelling headphones as the shop music was a bit loud ( IMO). read more

There's always an "older" gentleman that works behind the counter & that man needs help! He does a phenomenal job and honestly it looks like he try's to fill everyone's orders by hisself. This was my first time visiting although it's a 9min drive from my home. I parked on the side by the dry cleaners because there was free parking. I was greater as soon as I walked in. The decor is very dark academia with the wood and velvet seating. My breakfast sandwich was just okay. My order came out pretty fast. There is paid street parking out front, but they do have about 3 spots on the side of the building for customers that is free, which is very nice! I got here at 7:50 am right before they opened, so I easily got a spot, but not sure if there would be spots later in the day. I only stayed for an hour then went home! ***EXPERIENCE*** I came right at opening, so there was only one person working, and she was clearly still trying to get everything together for the opening, but she stopped to let me in and take my order! I didn't see the wifi password anywhere and I hate asking lol. Since I was only there for an hour, I just used my hotspot. There was a power strip by the table I chose, but I didn't see outlets by all seats. There was a booth in the back that I wanted to sit at but it looked super worn down with no outlets, so I opted for a normal table. The inside was cozy, but I personally didn't live the vibe. It was okay, just not my favorite local cafe. Definitely worth coming occasionally but won't be my go-to. ***STAFF*** Friendly! I ordered an Iced Mint Condition, which is basically an iced peppermint mocha. Interior is plush and comfortable - a perfect coffee shop to settle in and sip on a beverage while working, studying, or just chilling. Parking isn't great but that's like most places in the area. They have lighter and stronger. I like the Black Forest. It's about $3.50 for a medium. This is made with chocolate and a choice of milk. Also they have granola. It's about $5 for a bag, which isn't as much as other coffee places that sell this kind of stuff. It overall is an excellent place for coffee. Locally grown beans and ingredients. A cute coffee shop nearby my house on the west side. I stopped in for a quick panini for a late lunch and was ultimately tempted into a sweet treat pumpkin chai tea latte. Although they only have oat milk or whole milk as their options (Skim, almond, nonfat would be great!) I enjoyed it nonetheless. The panini took unusually long to make considering the cafe wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered off of the holiday menu a peppermint mocha I did pay for a 16 oz because that is their smallest but they made an 8 oz coffee for me so keep in mind they only have a 16 oz and a 20 oz option. The uniqueness about this coffee shop there are books for sale supporting local artists, artwork on the walls and music for sale. Well , I finally have arrived to the infamous Urban Grind Coffee House . I visited on the morning of a weekday so there was available parking near the rear . They also share parking with the cleaners next door . I ordered a small raspberry white chocolate coffee along with a croissant breakfast sandwich. I was at first sketch about ordering a raspberry coffee but never the less I was quite happy with my choice . I give a shout out to the barista. I made my way back to this place for a double take and same service and same quality . The atmosphere is warm and inviting . Warm greeting as I walked!! Hiiiii! The smells of freshly brewed coffee and baked good will greet you as soon as you walk in the door. Different varieties of pastries and coffees will have the undecided stumbling for a few minutes. There are a long list but enough to make wonder should you have tried one instead of another. I got the Caramel Macchiato Espresso with Almond Milk, my norm and didn't notice until I sat down the House Specials. It was ok, maybe because I've been tortured by the franchise coffees that add so much caramel with added sweeteners and sugars. The croissant with egg white and Turkey sausage was good. The only thing I noticed was while the person preparing the sandwich, left the door open to the unwrapped croissant, and bagels (there were wrapped vegan cookies in the same case) and any flies, gnats and creatures could fly in (this is a pet peeve of mine in the food industry. MOCHA One of the best mochas I've had in the city. There is not a lot of parking so I was very lucky to secure one right outside the café, and I made a pitstop for a cuppa coffee. Staff was extremely nice and attentive, they asked if I wanted whip on my mocha, which of course I said yes, and it is easily one of the best I've had. The café is very small, and quite packed, but still a nice quiet place to read a book if you can find a spot. I will be frequenting this more often now that I know it is here, but I would probably rather take my coffee on the go. read more

i was really excited to come here on a day that was a special occasion because i saw they had chai lattes! it's also nice that it's a locally owned POC business too. parking is limited, there's a couple free spots to the right of the shop and there's some paid street parking. i ended up getting a small iced chai latte with almond milk. just a heads up they have a sign saying there's been some supply chain issues and as a result increased prices which is understandable, but my drink came out to be $6.43 which is $2 more than i expected :/ the interior is small but cozy. there's some tables and really comfy chairs. they also sell some pastries too. my chai latte was good but it was really really sweet. i wish i had asked for less sugar. also, they messed up my order and gave me a hot chai latte instead of an iced. because i ended up paying a lot of money for an incorrect drink, my visit was a bit disappointing. but i've heard other drinks are good. read more

I decided that I am going to patronize more black owned businesses in Atlanta during this year of 2020 Urban Grind happens to be one of those places. The location is great although you have to pay for parking. I walk in and there is no one there to greet me so I decide to take a seat. I make myself comfortable and soon see a you g man emerge from the back. I approach the counter to place my order a Raspberry White Mocha with Almond milk because coconut milk is not an option and a toasted everything bagel. I take a look around as I snap some shots of the place. Cute, cozy chairs and sofas, as well as a board that displays what they have going on for entertainment nightly. I stopped into Urban Grind Coffee House on the Tuesday morning after Labor Day and was greeted with lights out and locked doors. Another woman on the patio told me they weren't open yet even though the times listed online said they would be. There was a sign posted on the door that said, during Labor Day Weekend they would open at 9 AM. So I wasn't too unsettled, even though it was the day after Labor Day Weekend. A woman went into the building around 8:40, greeted us, and locked the door back behind her while we waited for the place to open. When we were let in a little after 9 AM it seemed like the two people behind the counter were still trying to get everything together. I found a corner to work for the morning and noticed a lot of the furniture was run down. I went up to order. The service was friendly. I decided on a large french press. I gear towards more black coffee than flavored lattes. Their selection of flavors was impressive but not what I was there for. The coffee wasn't anything to write home about. I don't think my french press was made with the best equipment because too many grounds were floating at the top. The creamer also seemed to be old cause it was floating instead of dissolving. The vibe did seem to pick up as people came into work and created a warm atmosphere. I would like to try this place out again in the future but I'd explore the rest of the Atlanta coffee scene first. read more

Super cute coffee shop! It's like thrift store meets coffee shop. The ambiance was really nice. It had jazz music playing. It was loud enough to enjoy but not overbearing. I was able to read and chill while deciding my next move. They have most of the basic coffee options, select pastries and a lunch menu!
