We came here on our way to Vancouver…read more My husband needed some quick road sustenance - and The Great Mongolian BBQ was the perfect stop. The place was clean and well maintained and the staff were efficient and quick to help us. As a customer you get to pick the ingredients that you want in your bowl. My husband selected a delicious looking assortment of ingredients, including meats, fresh vegetables, sauces, and savory noodles, and then the staff cooked it up on their iron grill. I opted for lovely hot green tea We then grabbed a cozy booth and while I sipped on my soothing tea, my husband raved about his well seasoned meal. If you're looking for a quick hearty and flavorful lunch - The Great Mongolian is a solid stop. Trust.

This is kinda an interesting one for me. I haven't had Mongolian grill in probably 10 years, so I'm…read morenot sure what I can compare this to. It is essentially a semi self-served food court experience. You go in, top up an empty bowl with thinly sliced meat, veggies, noodle, sauce and they stir fry it for you on a huge flat hotplate. All together, there are maybe 15 items you can choose from, with another 8 types of sauce you can mix and match with. I guess people go in feeling it's more of an interactive experience. With a little bit of strategy, you can squeeze in a couple more ounces of food. Food was okay. I mean the ingredients were clean.. I guess? Similar to a salad bar, or a subway, or a poke bar, there's not really any skill involved in cooking these. I even mixed in my own sauce, so they literally just had to make sure nothing was raw or burnt. The presentation after things are cooked, would be considered underwhelming. (just look at the images) For the amount of food you get, the price is fair. But would I look forward to going back there again? Probably not. I'd say a hot bowl of pho for the same price would likely be more satisfying. Food 5 Service 7 Ambiance 6 Value 6

We have tried different places like this and have had way better service! This place was not the best place for portion size as I've been to other places and have left full. Then he put half of my cooked order into the container with the rice (container was NOT full), and the other half in second container and said I have to pay $10 extra for 2nd container. I said no thanks and he started yelling at me. I just stared in disbelief. The restaurant was empty - no other customers. I'm surprised Fraser Health hasn't shut this place down for violating food safety rules. $20 for half a bowl of mediocre stir fry is not worth it. I usually like to support local mom and pop businesses but this guy clearly doesn't want returning customers.

We truly appreciated how welcoming and helpful they were. We were impressed by the wide variety of fresh and healthy ingredient options. There are so many fresh toppings and sauces to choose from, and it was so easy to fully customize our bowl from base to protein to toppings. It is not a preset menu spot, which makes it even more fun. We also loved how vegetarian- and vegan-friendly the options are. The portion size was surprisingly generous (more than enough for us)! For the quality and price, it was honestly very impressive. Our bowls were served hot straight from the grill, and we felt like we were watching a cooking show as the staff prepared everything right in front of us. We could literally feel the heat from where we were standing. Huge thumbs up to the hardworking team managing both prep and grilling. Everything tasted fresh and flavourful without being overly greasy. We even had leftovers for lunch the next day, and it still tasted amazing. We also loved their healthy drink options and frozen yogurt. Learning that their entire menu is seed-oil free and refined-sugar free made us appreciate the concept even more. The space is clean, bright, and has a super welcoming atmosphere. It is a great option when you want something warm, hearty, and customizable instead of cold salads or typical fast food. Great value for money and protein options for everyone. We truly think Goodbowl needs more locations in Vancouver. Highly recommend. 100% would come back again. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Yay! Price: $30-$40 spent per person (dinner) Presentation: 2/5 Parking: 1/5 Be patient! It is located in a busy plaza with lots of restaurants and shops. Tips: * Go on a weekday if you can. It is a bit easier for first-timers to learn the process. * Ask questions. The staff are more than happy to explain the build-your-bowl steps. * Do not underestimate the portion size. * Pair your bowl with their drinks or frozen yogurt if you are extra hungry. I ordered a Regular Bowl ($15.95) with egg noodles, various fresh veggies, hormone-free chicken, and teriyaki sauce. I feel that I could've asked for more sauce though as I prefer more saucy noodles. I loved how the ingredients and toppings were all made on a grill top in front of you and it is served sizzling hot! The fruit smoothies ($8.65) were such a treat too! We chose the Green Machine (spinach, apple, kale, pineapple, banana, low-fat vanilla froyo) and the Classic (strawberry, banana, orange, low-fat vanilla froyo). We enjoyed how refreshing and natural it tasted. They also have fresh fruit frozen yogurt and we picked a small size ($4.95). We picked a strawberry banana and blueberry flavour. This was pretty good but I felt like it could've been creamier or blended even more. Still hit the spot though. If we want nutritious food and fresh ingredients next time we're in the Richmond area, we'll be returning to Goodbowl!

Pro tip: There is free underground parking at the restaurant. After 6pm, you can park at CIBC parking stalls underground. The Deluxe AYCE is only $3 more per person so with the 20% late night deal my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. What we found is much higher beef quality and lamb that rivals what higher tier hot pot spots like DolarShop provide. My boyfriend loves the snack bar and we discovered there are two separate snack bars in the restaurant that has different food - one has desserts, spring rolls, chicken wings, and deep fried buns. The other has cold appetizers, noodles, curry fish balls, and lamb shanks. The original house soup base is really tasty and the service here is quick and pretty friendly. The only downside is that the restaurant is not well vented so be prepared to smell like hot pot from head to toe. Regular deluxe AYCE is $34.99 per adult for dinner and end of the meal includes complimentary ice cream. They also have some unlimited drink refills that are pretty reasonable prices for around $3.99/person. Solid hot pot place and the great thing about this restaurant is they don't rush you out when your time limit is up.

Spicy was traditional Chinese spicy (so pretty spicy) but both are flavorful. The lamb and beef meats were good. The inside was nice and clean. They had a small buffet style section where you could grab toppings and certain side items. I guess they only put certain items out at a time and don't refill it when they run out. We ordered the Chinese Donut, as we got the last 2 in the buffet style area, but the guy came back and said they are all out. So it seems like they don't make more after a certain point. Parking seems a bit bad. We are not familiar with the area and planned to go to the nearby mall afterwards, so we ended up paying for parking at the mall across the street. From the looks of it, they only really have street parking available. We paid in advanced for the happy hour price before happy hour ended. That all being said, the service was subpar. It was okay at first, but then we ordered more meat and fast forward 20 minutes, it still had not come out. It the took a minute to find a flag down a worker, but we asked once again. It felt like only had 1 (maybe 2) actual server on the floor. We waited like 5 more minutes before ultimately just leaving. I'm not sure what happened since they were pretty empty (customer wise), but it heavily ruined the experience. If you go, I hope your experience is better!:)

The menu depicted various grilled meats and lots of veggies, with rice or noodles, for a reasonable price. (Most everything else at the other places were fried. And I wasn't in the mood for Panda Express). I ordered a teriyaki chicken with minimal rice. This dish cost $5.99 (the cheapest meal offered) and I usually eat 1/3-1/2 of any given meal, anyway. The lady who took my order was friendly but quite the character, with her "wig" of red yarn braided in two large side braids, and the "cook" was a nice guy who was personable enough. My dish was presented in a styrofoam box (even though I said I was going to eat it in the food court there). As for the food itself, I inspected the chicken pieces and they were cooked through and through. There were some veggies (carrots and cabbage, mostly). And, as I requested, I got only a bit of rice. Unfortunately, everything was doused in a teriyaki sauce that I wasn't too keen on (mostly because there was so much of it. But also it just wasn't my cup of tea). I ate 1/3 and threw the rest out. And I felt super queasy and had major GI issues for the next few hours (I'll spare the details but, suffice it to say, it was NOT a fun drive back to Vancouver for me). Other than a Starbucks coffee, this was the only thing I had all day, so the chances are pretty high that this food didn't sit well with me. Not sure if it was me or the food, but I'm not going to take a chance and eat here again.
