Coach Dan greeted my party and made accommodations for us. We had a later appointment but we decided to come earlier and he made it happen. The place was empty when we arrived but ppl started arriving minutes later. They offer food and drinks. I ate before the axe event so we didn't buy food or drinks. This is a festive spot - great for an after work get together and surprisingly busy for a Tuesday evening. Axe throwing is a sport for everyone, don't be deterred. The coaches all have a fantastic energy. Food options exist but are limited, the beer and wine menu is solid. Nothing on draft, but the prices aren't wild and the selection is wide enough. We went for a work event. Jeannelle was our instructor and she was amazing. She made it so much fun! We actually played a game and it was so fun and competitive. I would encourage anyone to come here for team bonding but definitely ask for Jeanelle. read more

Went with 4 friends as a fun night out in Somerville and it seemed pretty empty in there. We walked in without a reservation not thinking anything of it seeing that there were 2 groups of people in there and about 15 lanes... they turned us away because "5 is a lot for our coach." Looks like they need the business but apparently not. Also had extremely rude interaction with other staff as well. Would look for something else to do, like karaoke around the corner (recommended by the staff- unsure why they'd turn away business and send us to other businesses) read more

Who doesn't want to get out some aggression by throwing an axe? Very basic set up. Axes and wood against the wall to throw it at. Each reservation gets a "Coach" your coach will explain to you how to throw the axe and give you great corrections. After the initial explanation they then have you play against your friends and they tally up your points for you to see who wins. It is incredibly fun but if you have more than 4 people I would say an hour isn't long enough. It goes by a lot quicker than you think and you don't get much time to throw before you have to head out. read more

It's fun for a birthday or date night and just right in terms of difficulty. The instructor was kind, patient, and clear - you spend the first part of your session learning how to throw and the remainder competing against others in your class. It goes by quick - if you find that you love it, they have entire leagues devoted to the sport! Recommend making a reservation online. We tried going once on a whim on a Monday- they had space, but no instructors and so we had to return another day. We made a reservation, but oddly it was later overbooked somehow and so they re-scheduled us last minute. Not sure if these are common occurrences, but something to keep in mind that could occur. read more

This place was a lot of fun! I went with 3 friends and we had side-by-side lanes so that we could learn and throw 2 and a time. We had a 90-minute time slot with our "guide". She was very friendly, patient and encouraging (even when I really stunk - which was 99% of the time). She told each of us how to adjust our stances and techniques so that we could throw our best. We were shown 2-arm and 1-arm throwing stances. The 90 minutes went by so quickly and our group of 4 had a lot of fun learning and then "competing" against each other. Tips and other thoughts: they have a parking lot - which is awesome. You have to go to the front desk to ask for a parking pass to put in your car. They do sell beer and wine that you can take to your area (but not in the actual throwing lane, obvi). There is plenty of space to hang coats and purses by your lane for when you're throwing. Make a reservation for your party in advance and look for coupons online! They do accept tips (which they can put on your credit card). Your guide will take a picture of your party with the axes at the end so that everyone can remember the good times! I highly recommend this experience for friends, family or coworkers (just maybe not with enemies! Lol) read more

Had an amazing experience at Urban Axes! My 3 friends and I made a reservation and were treated so well! Our "coach" was Dan and he was so fun, witty, and knowledgeable about throwing. For 1.5 hours private throwing, we were paired with each other for a competition and then put in a bracket based on points. It's great, casual and friendly competition. Overall, super beginner friendly but still an awesome spot to work on your target throwing! I will 100% go again and again, shoutout to Dan for such a great experience!! read more

My daughter recommended that we go axe throwing while I was in town. She had done it previously at this spot, but I had never done it before. Our instructor Kevin, was very knowledgeable and did a great job of instructing out group, which consisted of me and my daughter and 4 other folks we did not previously know. If you have less that 4 in your group you can't reserve a bay, but will participate in what they call social throwing. We had a great time with the folks we were with amd everyone's axe throwing improved as we got more and more throws in. I would definitely recommend this place as a fun activity to do with your crew. They do serve alcohol and some food there, but we did not get any, so I can't opine on the taste of the food or the variety of drinks offered. read more

This year we spent our anniversary trying something different. We went to Boston and my SIL and BIL wanted to try ax throwing. It had been a while since I laughed so much. We had a great time. Tickets were bought the night before and we signed the online waiver also that night. That saves you some time. Once you walk in temperature is taken and mask must be on while your standing anywhere on site. They have a section where you can hang out and get drinks. The food because of covid is 4 crackers, 4 pieces of cheese and 4 pieces of salami. You have a section with a coach that walks you through everything. She was great. Helped me a lot because I totally sucked. The only thing is that its loud from everyone laughing and talking so with the masks you can't hear them very clearly. We had so much fun ax throwing and competing to see who can do better. It's a must do! read more
