Came here for a meet up and really enjoyed myself. The staff explained all the safety measures and the different ways to throw axes which I thought was really great. They continually monitored as well as gave guidance to you in a helpful and encouraging manner. Like, "hey I noticed you were doing this, try this out, or maybe try doing this" which i thought was a good approach to interaction and instruction when seeing people throwing axes for the first time. There is also a water fountain, excellent, hydration is important. The bathroom was maintained which is also a plus, nobody likes going to a gross bathroom. Overall, if I'm in the area and have the spare cash I'd probably do this again. I'd probably try to be in a lane where there is nobody next to me though because waiting for somebody else to finish throwing just so I can retrieve my axe was tiring. Safety first though! read more

Half Axe - Axe Throwing Near Me - Marlborough, Massachusetts

Decided to bring my friend here for her birthday...also pretty confident that I can win easily! Yeah, I can't aim and it pretty much ended becoming a game of chucking the axe and as long as it sticks, yay! Joking, I got 1 bullseye...after 45 mins. The length of time to play depends on the size of your group. The price remains the same per person though. There's also a coach to teach and keep score as well. Josh was our's, but I have a tendency to make my arm move diagonally instead of straight. I would definitely come here again!! read more

Half Axe - FIRST AND ONLY BULLSEYE! - Axe Throwing Near Me - Marlborough, Massachusetts

I've been to a few axe places now. The kids liked this a lot, but there are a few things that make this place different. First, it's really bright and well lit. I mean, that's ok but you always feel like everyone is watching you. It doesn't have that hangout vibe a lot of these kinds of places have. Second, you only get 1 axe per lane. The other 2 places I've been to (other companies) give you several axes, and each person uses their axe during their time there. Third, sure, you get instruction and the lady/guy/person helping us helped out, but they also were managing this other group, so you don't always get the assistance or attention you need. I usually have a single person dedicated to my teams that watch everything, tell you all when to go get your axes, etc. Much of the time, I was the one telling the kids "WAIT" before they went to get their axe because the other kid hadn't thrown yet. So, be prepared to be on safety duty here. You do practice throws then can play games - the person watching us keeps score, but because they're doing another group, they don't always know or watch so really just keep score yourself. It would be easier if I had the white board and let the kids keep score. They do have a little bar in the back for booze if you need it. The kids liked it a lot, they all nailed it. I just think compared to other places that do axe throwing they could step it up a little. read more

Had a great time here on the evening of Saturday, December 11th. We arrived and were immediately set up with a throwing lane and a coach who explained the two ways to throw the axe (overhead with two hands, or one hand over the shoulder.) We were not rushed through our time even though most lanes were taken up and they had reservations after us. Highly recommend. We will be going back! read more

My son-in-law, grandson and I had a great time throwing the axes! The person that gave us the pre throwing of the axes directions on safety and how to hold the axes when throwing them did a great job! I asked him if they had bandaids there? He said they did. We didn't need any after all! Art J. read more

We had a good time but would have been nice to know 30 minutes of our 60 minute time slot would be instructions and practice throws. I understand the importance of safety but the cost is not cheap and would be nice if this instruction was not half of the time we spent money on. read more

Very clean establishment. Recommend calling ahead to schedule a lane as they do book up quick. Nice small bar there with good prices. I'd like to highly recommend coach Kat. She was so pleasant and patient with my fiancé who is the equivalent of Al albatross throwing an ax. (Very clumsy and awkward) I'd say this place is good for small groups as well as large. read more

1st-timers here. Had so much fun yesterday! Came with my 19-year old son and my boyfriend. Great experience all around and no doubt will be back. Nora, our instructor, was amazing!!! Cannot say enough about her. Fun, friendly, knowledgeable and gave good tips as we played. Loved it! read more

The games are a lot of fun and although it's worth the trip, the constant intrusive nature of the staff is annoying. We paid for an hour of fun together - not for lessons to become professional axe throwers. It would be more enjoyable if staff would just step to the side and assist when asked. read more

the coaches are so annoying and condescending. i love axe throwing but not here. the technology didn't work and it was not that fun lol go somewhere else read more

Went with my girlfriend and adult son at the end of vacation week. Wasn't sure what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. We booked online and filled out some of the liability release paperwork online also. The paperwork was a little difficult to navigate on a cell phone so we just finished it at the venue. The guy at the counter was super helpful and very laid back. The electronic pads made it easy to finish the paper work in a flash. John (our instructor) was great! He provided us with clear instructions and gave us plenty of pointers throughout our time there. He critiqued our style and form so that were got pretty good by the time we left. He suggested a few friendly competitions that made the event really fun. Absolutely worth every penny of entertainment dollar! And it is locally owned by a small business so another great reason to support these nice folks. read more

Jack was an excellent coach today for our birthday party! He was so patient with us amateurs!

Our Coach Jesse was very knowledgeable and encouraging. It was our first time and it was very fun!

Way too expensive compared to other facilities. The 'coaches' are lax and chill. Not much to the facility.

Went for the first time Friday night. We had a great time. Our instructor was great. Had fun playing a couple of different games.

I had a blast here. When I first saw/heard of axe throwing I was thinking to myself who would go and do this for fun? Well let me tell you, it's fun. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and supportive throughout the process of learning to throw! You can either throw one hand or two handed and for me I was better at the two handed throw. My boyfriend did better with the one hand. The axes were nice and I could see people really getting into it getting nice axes that are always sharp cause some of them were dull making them less likely to stick. Once the wood gets pretty beat up it also became more difficult to stick but it was still so much fun just throwing an axe and honestly I was pretty good at it. read more

This place should be called half ass axe throwing. They charge a single person $50 an hour to throw there. I had called this place previously about coming down they told me on the phone it was $25 an hour for one person that they normally only book 2 people at a time but they would fudge it so that I could come down and throw for an hour. I drove down there walked in and then they pulled a switch on me and told me it was $25 and half an hour per person and that it would cost me $50 to book myself for one hour. Not only that but this place was small in the staff seemed highly unintelligent. If you're a competitive ax thrower do not go here it is a complete joke and a scam. Parking is horrible outside to boot. read more

Well that happened. Best team building event ever. We showed up on a quiet Wednesday night 12 of us. Quick safety lecture and instructional demonstration. a little bit of practice and we were good to go. Pretty good Learning curve by the end of the session everybody was getting about half of the throws or better to stick. I'll be back with my wife soon. You must be 18 and over to get in. Learning curve is quicker than I thought it Would be. I understand they're looking to add leagues and they mentioned that it did get busy on the weekends. read more

What a fun time we had at Half Axe. We had a large group (16) so we booked a 90 minute tournament. It was definitely the way to go; it cost a bit more per-person than just reserving a lane, but a coach was with us the entire time and facilitated a great double-elimination tournament. No one was eliminated until the very end, so everyone got plenty of axe throwing opportunity even if they weren't winning their rounds. We all did get better as we got more throws. And it was as much fun (if not moreso) to watch the others and cheer them on. Definitely a great way to spend a couple of hours, especially early afternoon on a weekend when there was no one else in the place. read more

Went for the first time and loved it! The instructor was great and made sure we were able to make the target. Would go again!

Disappointed with the experience we had here last night. Eleven friends and I arrived for a friends birthday. We checked in no issue, paid our $25 a person for the hour, and signed our waivers. Josh, our "coach," greeted us and directed us over to our two lanes... that's correct, two lanes for twelve people at $25. Meanwhile a couple that arrived shortly after us each got their own lane. Where's the value in that? We spent more time watching than anything else. Anyway, Josh went through the safety measures and taught us the two ways to throw the axe, but never once mentioned that throwing an axe too hard is grounds for a scolding like he was our father and a threat for expulsion. I mention this because a little later into our set one of the girls in my group threw an axe that ended up hitting the board flat (instead of by the blade) and made a decidedly loud noise and bounced back awkwardly (but never past the cage or the red line.) Josh, who had his back to our group instructing the couple next to us when this happened, shot around and immediately scolded her and stated that if we continue to throw that hard again we may be asked to leave. I wish I could accurately describe how rude he was about it. It was unbelievable how into himself he was even after this encounter. He spent more time strutting around practicing his own throws than anything else. There was really very little interaction outside of the initial instruction. Talk to people! Give more pointers! It wasn't until we had a mere 15 minutes left that someone else in our group said, "hey what about playing a game like you mentioned in the beginning?" that we actually got to have a little fun. We got one and a half games in and that was that. Really a stale atmosphere over all, no music or food/drink options at all. Bottom line... over priced, understaffed, poor organization, and unfriendly staff. Being a week night is no excuse to have one coach working, there were multiple large groups that came before and after us. Won't be back. read more

Second time visiting. First was with a group and the second time on a date. I had a great time both visits. I like that I can fill out all the forms ahead of time and that they serve beer. I agree with one of the other reviewers. It would be nice if the lighting was a little different so that it had more of a hang out vibe. Maybe have the throwing lanes very bright as they are for safety but have the seated areas dimmer. Some music in the background may help too. All in all still a really fun time! read more

We enjoyed ourselves. Something new and different. The staff was very helpful. Look forward to going again.

First time axe throwing today - and it just happened to be Andy's first day as well. He was kind and patient - very understanding of the struggle of getting the axe on the board for the first time. He gave very helpful advice and encouraged my friend and I when we made small accomplishments. The axe throwing itself is extremely fun and gratifying/addicting once you get it on the board. I expect to come back here many times. read more

The idea was really cool, and we did have fun however they charge 25 dollars per person for half an hour and then proceed to "teach" you how to throw for half the time. I went with a party of three total people and we each got to throw about ten times in the time given because our instructor spent so much time teaching us and the people next to us at the same time. So 75 dollars for us to each throw an axe ten times I was really disappointed. read more

I joined a league at half axe after playing here once last year. The staff and owner are awesome, the people in the league are a lot of fun. I have really enjoyed my time. I went from having my axes drop to the ground almost every time to landing almost all my throws in a couple weeks. I definitely recommend this for people going in one time, but suggest looking into joining a league because they are so much fun read more

I have been here twice and really enjoy throwing axes but the establishment could be hard to like. First time I showed up there were 2 of us and we each got a lane and new wood and it was a blast. The second time there were 3 of us and we were put into 2 lanes. So already I am paying more for less. When asked about this we were told it was to keep the wood fresh and that you needed more than 15 to get a third lane. Give me a break thats a lot of watching other people throw. Next we start the session and we get a trainee. Which fine people need to learn some how. However the senior staff threw this kid to the wolves, offered him, and my friends whose first time it was, no instruction or help. On the materials we had one axe that was so dull and pitted we were unable to get it to stick into the wall andnine lane had new wood and won every game regardless of the tosser. Once we switched to a new one we finally got some to stick. Lastly the senior staff seemed more concerned with tossing their own axes than doing their jobs. This place should change their name from half axe to half assed. read more

Spent some family time at Half Axe today and had a really fun time . Jack was a great instructor and provided lots of information on how to throw an axe. The four stars is because it is expensive. It's a lot of fun! Staff is really friendly and knowledgeable... before going I was worried a coach would just stand there and stare at us the whole time but that wasn't the case. They were there to make sure we were safe and knew what to do. They did keep an eye out but didn't just stand there staring the whole time so that was a relief! I highly recommend this place... especially for date nights.. or to try something new. read more
