A friend wanted to celebrate her birthday with new piercings. I googled tattoo shops in the area and Urban Art had the most and best reviews...and they were not wrong! Very happy we came! My friend is a very particular about cleanliness. She was very satisfied with the shop, and how they clean their items before piercing. The head piercer, Nico, was skilled and very patient with her she is terrified of needles). Nico was very kind and allowed her to take breaks as she needed. While she only ended up stretching 3 closed piercings and didn't end up getting new piercings as she intended, she for sure plans to go back because of how gentle Nico was. I went as a support to my friend, but ended up getting three new pieces of jewelry for my various ear piercings and Nico installed them for me without any issues. I would 100% recommend the shop and we definitely plan to be back! read more

I'm blown away with this shop. About a year ago I had received a really bad belly button piercing (not from them), it was crooked and extremely shallow which resulted in it ripping and having to heal. I walked in and was immediately greeted. I explained my situation and nico was more than willing to help. He was extremely professional, extremely kind, and made me feel beautiful again. Instead of having an ugly scar reminding me of a horrible past piercing, I now have a beautiful new piercing which is NOT crooked and NOT shallow! Highly recommend. Thank you again! read more

All of the staff were great. We went to Karla for ear piercing, she was so patient & understanding with my hesitant 13 yr old. I appreciated all of the education & advice during our visit. Everyone was appropriate & respectful of my daughters age. Everything was clean and sterile for her piercing :) The artists' work hanging in the shop was awesome made me want a tattoo :) the price was more than fair for the piercing & stud. read more

Honestly I could save your time, money, and skin by just goin somewhere else. I went in last week for a 3*3 cartoon character and even though the final product looked pretty crispy my artist was pushing the ink and needle way to deep for the whole session and now a week later my shits almost faded out, and I have plenty of tats but this is a first, fuck these ppl read more

We just went Urban Art to get my six year old niece's ears pierced for her birthday. Karla was beyond amazing. You do need to bring a birth certificate to verify you are able to give permission and Karla verifies with the child that they want their ears pierced. Once that's completed she walks you through the whole process and is incredibly thorough, kind, and talented. The entire staff was warm and accommodating. If you're looking to get a child's ears pierced this is the place to go. Unlike Claire's the process is sanitary, less painful, and the staff are professionals in their field. Bathroom is clean. FYI parking is a little bit tight. I got my nose pierced at this location and it was efficient, quick, and easy. You get a good selection of studs you would like. If you don't like it, you can go over there and change the top for like 10-15$ (prices as of feb 2022). I would come back again! read more

This is my second review for here but it is very warranted!! I have now gotten 4 piercings from Nico and they have healed so well and the process was very smooth. I felt safe and comfortable and Nico was kind about talking me through everything. After having bad helix piercing experiences in the past, I was nervous about going into it again. But it has been about a week since my helix piercing with Nico & it is healing so well!! 100% recommend Nico for any piercings!! read more

Since my first experience at Urban Art, I have definitely turned into a loyal customer, getting my next three tattoos (yes, I've had three more since the first one!) at this same location. However, for the last two, I've gone to Neil. (I think Justin was booked the first time around and I decided to try someone else at the shop. The second time around, I chose to work with Neil and my husband actually got his first tattoo from Justin.) I am definitely more than happy with Neil's work. He and Justin are friends with some common artistic leanings but distinct styles at the same time, so it's cool to have tattoos from both of them. I definitely appreciated both of their willingness to talk through my tattoo ideas and make recommendations inspired by but elevating my vision. On another positive note, Neil is a really fun and interesting person, which makes the tattooing go by relatively quickly. (Yes, it still hurts, but with the right breathing and good conversation, it's survivable!). With my last tattoo (a back piece that took around 12 hours in multiple sessions), that personality was definitely a huge plus! If you are looking for a great tattoo from a professional yet outgoing artist, I highly recommend Neil! read more

Based on customer service alone for the piercer: i was a little pushy with getting my nose pierced with a hoop, but he insisted on a stud and showed me some really pretty ones. Unfortunately it was super packed and my baby sister was complaining about xyz and i had no earplugs to deal with her. However i am appreciative of the niceness and Chaz (i believe thats his name) being patient with me as i went on a tangent about a hoop and i will take his advice and get a stud. Unfortunately Mesa is so far out from my families place and im on holiday. So my stud will have to wait. Sorry i left without notice and thank you for being patient with my pushiness. read more

I've never been a big tattoo girl, so I began my tat journey with a small butterfly from another studio. My Urban Art Artist is Christine, once I explained what I thought I wanted, she recommended a cover up, a redo and I went for it! She came highly recommend by a few friends, so I knew she was the right one to transform my tattoo into something super special. I've been back a few times and each visit she produces something better than I ever imagined. I had the honor of receiving Rod's artistic gifts a few weeks ago. I was referred to him thru a mutual friend. My family had a recent tragedy and i needed to memorialize the lost loved one in ink. I set a consult appt online then met with Rod. He listened to my story, collaborated with my ideas, and gave advice on my piece. I even scored a heartfelt hug (I was in tears); which cemented my faith in him. The session was set out a bit (he is much in-demand, obviously because he is quite awesome) and I could not have had a better turnout! He educated me on tattooing over my scars, and gave proper expectations so I knew what to look out for. I absolutely love what he did from the strong lines, to the wispy lines... shading and clarity- all was beautifully done -better than my mind could imagine. Like I told him at the end of my session- Rod is my tattoo artist for life. Oh, and Lori was super cool to deal with in the front office; great follow up email w/instructions. 10 stars If I could the staff here is awesome!!! Came in and talked to the front desk gentleman such a sweetheart (bad memory I already forgot his name ) . Had a dermal done by pinky, and it came out beautiful, she was so super super quick and the best I've ever had!! Lori has tried to help remind Rob to call and email me an update no less than 6 times over the last 3 months. Rob never called or emailed me. Eventually Lori did not respond to my follow up email. My mom and I got matching tats last year (March 2017). We were seated right away. My mom was a tattoo virgin. Our artist was very kind and explained everything to her ahead of time. Very clean facility. Used gloves and fresh needles straight from new packaging. If I need a touch up or decide I want another tattoo this is where I'll be going. Don't be deceived by the building location or outside. Staff are friendly and know what they're doing. The inside is very large and has private rooms for each person. read more

Born and raised in LA, I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil. During Jr high I progressed from paper to Graffiti. After a successful graffiti career, I needed more. I got my first tattoo and I was HOOKED! I decided to get an apprenticeship immediately. After losing everything I owned in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, I moved my family to beautiful Arizona. I opened Urban Art Tattoo & Piercing that April 20th and it's now been over 30 years! I've been tattooing for over 33 years. It's the second love of my life and a career that fulfills my artistic needs as well as allows me to meet amazing, diverse people every day. I paid a $60 booking fee a week in advance, and was told it covered the artist's drawing time and the appointment slot. Yet when I arrived early for my 3:00 PM appointment, nothing was prepared. After about 20 minutes, the artist showed me a design that wasn't even close to what I had provided, so he had to start over while I waited even longer. After an hour of waiting -- including watching the artist step outside for a smoke break -- I left without getting tattooed. I then learned the booking fee was nonrefundable, despite the fact that the delay and lack of preparation were entirely on their end. If the fee is supposed to cover the design work, the design should be ready before the client arrives -- not started after check-in. What should have been an exciting first tattoo experience was instead frustrating and disappointing. I reached out to the owner, hoping for understanding. Instead, I received no apology, no responsibility -- just the implication that I was being unreasonable for expecting my time to be respected. Extremely disappointed. I won't be returning, and I hope others know what they're signing up for before booking here.

My first tattoo here was my fleabag tattoo (pictured - my left inner forearm) and I worked with David. He was so nice and talented, he did amazing. I gave him a hodgepodge of ideas to work from and told him the things I *had* to have in the piece - he incorporated everything j wanted and fleshed out the design in such a way I never even imagined. I'm so in love with it to this day (I got it a few years ago). My next tattoo was also with David - I got my ghostie in a field (also pictured). This was a scar coverup. This one I kinda let David do whatever he came up with. He gave me some options on the vibe I wanted and once he had a general idea, he came up with something *amazing*. Seriously, I get so many compliments on this. After my ghostie, David left the shop (and moved very far from me lol) so I decided to work with a different artist - Jarom. This was a total like, kismet situation. I walked into the shop after knowing David left, and asked who would be best to do some lettering on my wrists (pictured) and Jarom was suggested. He was super super nice. Such a stellar vibe. He made sure the font was what I wanted (and double checked the spelling lol) and I got in with him THAT DAY. Like... Within 30 minutes of walking in, I was sat in his chair. That day, I put another deposit down with him for another piece coming up lol My most recent piece here was with Aarin. He did my heart and dagger (pictured). This was another kismet thing. I walked in to go over ideas with Jarom for my next piece and saw this design on the flash design wall. I immediately fell in love. So I asked if I could get that done and when. Aarin came out and we talked for a minute, and again within about 30 minutes I was getting this done. Aarin was a gem to work with. I seriously recommend coming here and getting work done. Each artist has an Instagram and if you find someone you dig, 9 times out of 10 they'll take time out of their day to meet with you.

I sent some ideas of what I was trying to get to cover it but I was open to letting him design it. I stopped into the shop one day so he could see it in person and he said he could cover it and I booked my appointment (there's a $100 appt deposit, it's applied to the price of the tattoo). He did a phenomenal job, explained the process and got to work, he gave me a couple of breaks and he knocked it out in 2-1/2hours. It turned out soo good! It's beautiful! I love it!! I chose a fun dangly 14k gold piece for my piercing as I know from a previous cartilage piercing that I need a more hypoallergenic metal. And while my ear anatomy doesn't quite make the piercing fully hidden, I'm happy with it. I'm glad to have had the consultation with Megan prior so I knew what I was getting myself into. Do yourself a favor and get pierced by Megan (walk-ins are allowed for piercings). Buy some saline solution here, tip generously, and walk away being a more decorated and shiny version of yourself.

Now if I want to put a hoop in it will be a massive hoop. The piercing healed fine but they used a corkscrew piercing which is super outdated and the gem from my piercing fell out after 5 months. I would not get a nose piercing from here and I wish I would've gone somewhere else.
