Fresh Summer Rolls (2) (Gi Cun)
Emily C.

I grabbed chicken pho and pork summer rolls to go. The summer rolls were decent but I found the pork to be fairly dry. The pho was just fine -- not the best I've had, but still comforting on a chilly day. The staff seemed super nice when I came in to pick up my food. I'd dine in next time and try something else from the tasty menu!

Papaya salad

Parking lot was packed, it's like a shopping center area. Lots of businesses around. I went when they opened @ 11am and it was already like that. Don't let that deter you though. The area of Raleigh it's located in seems very busy. I ended up deciding to order take Order papaya salad $18 and vermicelli with grilled pork and eggrolls $18 The papaya salad is a lot sweeter than I like. I like that they come with shrimp chips! I like that there were peppers, pork and shrimp. The vermicelli grilled pork and eggrolls was good. I was sad there was only 3 pieces of egg roll. I wish the pork had more of a grilled/char taste. But not a big deal. It was still good. Clean tables, nice dining area. Good music playing. I sat at the dining table closest to the ordering desks. Do not recommend for people dining in. But if you dine in you just go sit at a table and they have QR codes on the table that pulls up the menu. Someone was smoking outside and the door was open so that wasn't enjoyable.

Bun bo hue after a long day

A gem of a place. We found this mom and pop place by accident and just loved the food. We ordered the Bun bo hue noodle soup and Bun which was refreshing dinner on a hot day. We also ordered the pork rice dish for our son who liked his dinner as well. The service was very personable and we will definitely be back to visit again.

Grill pork bahn mi

Sunday afternoon- not crowded. Found this restaurant on yelp - it's not a big place , only about 30 seats. Looks like ta typical family run place. Pho was very good - nice soup, different types of beef. The rice noodle was not as al dente , it's too easy to break. Could've been in the soup too long. Other than that, all good. Grilled pork bhan mi was very good. Lots of pork, cilantro and the spicy pepper gives the right amount of kick. Definitely worth a try.

Sliced Rare Beef Pho ( Ph Ti )

This place is a absolute must try. I was looking for a good place nearby for pho, after seeing the reviews and peaked my interest and everyone is right! From the food to the service, it was definitely an excellent lunch. Food came out pretty fast and it was just packed with different flavors plus there's two homemade hot sauces that really elevate the dish. I highly recommend the one pointed in the photo. I ordered the rare steak pho, the broth was super flavorful, and it came with a side dish containing mint leaves, jalapeños slices, limes, and bean sprouts were pretty fresh. The service was phenomenal. They're really quick and nice. And it's very cozy inside. It's not too big but it's a perfect place to come for a quick lunch or a good dinner. They had a pretty fish tank and the news playing. I came around lunchtime and was filled, but not too packed. I will 100% make this my new regular spot. And absolutely perfect on a cold day.

Pretty good! Came here on a Saturday around 6 for some takeout. First time here. Staff were friendly. Restaurant is clean. That includes the fish tank in the back! wish the Bun Bo Hue had blood or pork hock but it was still a balanced amount of meat, veggies, and noodles. Wish it was spicier. Ordered pho for my kid which she eat happily. The broth was too sweet for my taste. Spicy lemongrass chicken was nice and very tender. Comes with rice. I recommend ordering the summer rolls! I'd come back to try out the pork dishes.

Nice

Number 1 in Raleigh. Very fresh and clean. Quick service. Everyone is so friendly. I love pho here and Bun Bo Hue. Also, they have banh xeo and crispy pork belly too.

Bun rieu

Love love love! Food is great. Service is great. Goi du du - papaya salad is so refreshing and delicious. Bun rieu - so much better than any other Vietnamese restaurant who pre-steam a small dish of eggs. This one you can taste the crab the seafood. Quail - can't say much since my husband ate it. He liked it ‍. Wish this place was bigger. Price was a bit on the high side but if the food is fresh, it's well worth the money.

Grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli combo with egg roll.

Absolutely amazingly fresh: this is the real deal. We just tried Uptown Pho today for a late lunch and it was a fabulous delight. It is located in a small plaza, with ample parking. The place itself is very clean and simple in atmosphere and settings but the foods are very complex and flavorful. Service was very fast and friendly. Be sure to ask for the specials that are listed up front but are not found on their printed menu. We started off with the papaya salad as a shared appetizer--WOW--this was truly one of the best salads we've ever had! We also ordered the house special pho and the combination vermicelli dish--BOTH were also on point. All were very good portions and had such fresh vegetables and ingredients. We loved it so much we ordered takeout for our niece and nephew and dropped it off for them to try for dinner (which they also loved). We will be sure to come back every time we are in town. So so so good.

The also has all the side condiments you would want to go with your pho which is hard to find around here. The service was also amazing, they sat us down quickly, took our orders almost right away, and the food came out in about 10-15 minutes. The restaurant itself was well decorated, bright, and clean. It photographs beautifully. Unfortunately, restaurants aren't judged on lighting. We ordered everything upfront: Banh Xeo (explicitly no shrimp due to a shellfish allergy), Cha Gio, Pho Tai, and the Chef Special. Somehow, not everything was entered correctly. The Banh Xeo arrived covered in shrimp. Allergy clearly stated. It was sent back immediately. We were told they could remake it, but it would "take a while because it takes a long time to make." Banh Xeo takes under 10 minutes in a properly run kitchen. We declined and assumed the rest of our meal would arrive promptly. It didn't. The egg rolls weren't just fried, they were fully baptized in oil. One bite and it felt like chewing on a sponge that lost a fight with the fryer. Then we watched tables seated at least 15 minutes after us receive their food before we did. When we asked about the remainder of our order, we were told it had "just been added" and would take a while. Pho taking 35+ minutes in a Vietnamese restaurant isn't high volume. It's disorganization. The Chef Special was decent. The pho, which should be the backbone of the menu, was underwhelming. Several tables around us had incorrect orders or long delays. The owner circulated, but instead of urgency or accountability, the energy felt inconvenienced. Here's the reality: great atmosphere can draw people in once. Food and leadership bring them back. If you're going because it looks trendy and buzzing, go in with eyes open. The aesthetic might be the star of the room, but the food should be.

I like Vietnamese food, but the options are limited where I live- and the options for vegetarians are even MORE limited at most Vietnamese spots. This spot is different- they have a whole page of vegan options on the back of the menu. My vegan pho with tofu was wonderful, and I loved the kick from the chili oil. I also liked adding the pho toppings, and they brought us extra bean sprouts since my husband and I both love them. I didn't have anything to drink, but all of the drinks were super reasonably priced. My husband had a beer. The bar has everything you could want to drink as well as mocktails. The portions are large, and when we got to-go containers, the employees even brought us plastic bags to pack each container in, so nothing leaked on our walk home. That was a nice touch and well appreciated. My husband got a bahn mi for later, and it was also packaged well for a to-go item. Anise is a great choice for pho or other Vietnamese foods in Raleigh, and if I lived nearby, I'd be a regular here and try everything on the vegan menu.

We dined there tonight for the first time since they took over. And we're pleased to see they have fixed things up. We ordered the Pho and also the grilled chicken vermicelli with vegetables. The pho had a nice flavor and was well cooked. The vermicelli dish featured fresh crisp vegetables and the grilled chicken had a very nice marinade which I had never seen at any other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The staff were very friendly and our order was taken quickly and accurately. Our food also arrive quickly and tasted good. We're glad to say the new owners have improved most every aspect of the restaurant and we will be coming back as regular customers. Recommend you give them a try.

We were seated right away, the server was super fun and friendly. There are for sure regulars that come here. The server knew a lot of people by name, for pick up orders and sitting inside. The Pho is for sure the best thing on the menu. If I would have only had the Pho it would have been a five star experience. I however had the combination and bbq chicken Banh mi Sandwiches and the shrimp spring rolls. The spring roll was crispy on the outside but still frozen on the inside. They remade it and the outside tasted like burnt oil and the inside was still cold. The Banh mi Sandwiches were full of super fresh veggies, I loved that! The downside is the combination one had no Mayo so I had to ask for some. The other downside was that the bbq chicken one had no sauce at all and very little chicken. Again, the veggies were really crunchy and fresh which I loved. Overall I would for sure go back for the Pho, it was delicious. One of the best broths I've had at a Pho spot.

I stopped in just a they were opening on a Friday and thank goodness I showed up when I did, this place gets packed quick and you should book a reservation to be on the safe side. I was most excited about the duck egg rolls but ended up being my least favorite not because they were slightly on the dry side. Flavor was good, and the hoisin honey sauce really helped! The seafood dumplings were second best, stuffed full. The soup based was amazing and it also came with some bread for dipping in the leftover sauce. The pork and chive shumai were my favorite! A little bit bigger than bit sized but worth the mouth full! Absolutely would recommend. I'll 100% be back for more food. The bar side looked to be more casual, the dinning room was full of high tea attire so I did feel a little under dressed, thought it would be slightly more casual. They have the cutest library with free books to read but only while you dine in. The flower and book shop are in the middle of the space. Super cute, limited options but great for a last minute bouquet!
