I had a wonderful coffee chocolate mix that was phenomenal. I also had Creme brûlée French toast which was good, but honestly a little one note for me. I really missed the brûlée part. My wife had eggs Benedict and it was delicious. The home fries that accompanied it were alright, but not my favorite. I am in Michael's Uptown Café every week but only review it annually (or less). I find them one of the most consistent and excellent restaurants in Bloomington. I have never had bad service or a problem with food here in any way. I love Victor's friendly and cheerful greetings and the new improved lay out (now years old) is marvelous. Whether I meet family or come here for a business meeting, I know I can count on them to get it right. It is no wonder they are such a perennial local favorite. we went here in March 2021, while restrictions were still high with covid. we were able to reserve a bubble for outside seating and it was great! although we booked it like a month in advance, it was worth the wait! not only were we able to add people to our reservation the day of, but they were really accommodating with food allergies and gave great drink pairing recommendations. a lot of places during covid give you the impression that they want high turnover due to less seating, but this was not the case! we never felt like we were rushed out and the staff and food were both lovely! I wanted to be a little more adventurous this weekend so I went to Yelp beforehand and chose Uptown for a big group of us Friday night based on the good reviews. Uptown delivered. Great service, everyone of us had fantastic food, wine aplenty, appetizer coma, etc. My husband would give them 1 star- but only b/c they don't serve liquor- he loved his food though. The goat cheese bruschetta is delicious, especially with the salmon on top. The bread is crunchy, the cheese is creamy, and the salmon does not taste fishy. This place fails to even remind me of New Orleans (except via cheesy attempts at naming it's dishes). The food is very good but the prices are high for what you get. read more

Had eggs over medium which were a bit undercooked but the home style potatoes were excellent with a bit of exterior crunch! Wife had biscuits and gravy with an egg over the top. Aside from the incredibly tasty NOLA offerings, Uptown has the finest beef in Bloomington hands down (sorry, Janko's). I could eat a New Yorker (best burger in Indiana) for lunch every day for the rest of my life and never tire of it. The steaks and medallions stand firmly between my palate and vegetarianism. And on a cold winter's night, I have found nothing from any Bloomington eatery quite as comforting as the Uptown Pot Roast preceded by one of their countless zesty soups. I went there for breakfast, we were seated quickly and our orders taken. I ordered a breakfast burrito. It had no flavor, and was overdone with beans. The guacamole on the side was just as tasteless. It needed more salt. I won't be coming back for breakfast anytime soon. read more

The food here is generally very good, if a little pricey, and prior to the past two visits I would have given four or five stars. I would go there for their Reuben sandwich and their side salads which were heaven, until the last two visits when the corned beef couldn't be found in the sandwich. Worse yet, when I commented to a manager, i was brushed off. So, add poor customer service from a manager along with a decline in the quality of food, I give it three stars... We went for brunch on a Sunday. The atmosphere is cozy, the food was amazing, and the service was great! I had read a review about the Huevos Rancheros special, and it happened to be on the board when we went; it was absolutely delicious! They should add it to the everyday menu. Some other meals at our table were the biscuits and gravy (yum), Popeye Omelet (the white cheddar is wonderful in this), and I can't remember the last one but it was an Eggs Benedict with the port glaze in the sauce so it was called something different (amazing). I love trying new food and places! I took this suggestion from a local and went but last Saturday for brunch. I had the shrimp and grits with a Bloody Mary... AMAZING! The grits were creamy with a hint of spice but not overbearing. The andouille sausage was smokey and paired great with the grits. The shrimp was plump and delicately cooked. I'm a huge Bloody Mary fan so I was a little skeptical to try it but it did not disappoint. Everything about the meal was perfection. Additional to great food, our server was friendly, knowledgable and attentive. I called 30 minutes prior to our arrival and we had no wait upon on our arrival. This place is seriously awesome. Being from Chicago, I really know what good steak is; and this place has got it. I recommend the Filet Mignon Medallions, they were truly excellent.
