Stopped in after a morning walk in the park. The service is prompt and friendly. I enjoyed an oat milk latte and bacon avocado toast. The avocado toast wasn't what I expected and was wonderfully surprised. The bacon is a flavorful bacon jam in a generous heap on top of the toast. The bread was thick and hearty. The tomatoes are marinated and added a nice acid to cut the richness of the avocado and bacon. read more

I've been here about 3 times. First time was really great because the coffee was really good and so was the bakery items! The last two times were very very bland and flavorless iced coffees. I usually just get flavored lattes but I do come here because the inside is great and the outside is perfect to come with your pup. You can also get some work done here because it's quiet enough but also roomy enough if that makes sense.... The staff is always friendly as well. Amazing spot, ambiance, and idea. The drinks were incredible. It fails in the execution of food and service. Our family came here from breakfast. All 5 of us walked away barely eating their food, except the cinnamon roll. Both avocado toasts had a funky spice taste to it. The meat (sausage and Canadian bacon) on the everything bagel sandwich was floppy. The burrito tasted like meat was made days ago and the eggs were non-existent. It took 42 minutes to receive a latte, a cappuccino, and a hot chocolate. We were done with our food and took them to go. The drinks were outstanding!! One could say that the staff was overwhelmed. It may be true, but it was not because of Mother's Day. It was like this a few weeks ago when we last visited. That day, fewer people were there... maybe should have been a sign. They shouldn't be put in a situation of always having to apologize. We are now headed home to grab some cereal. read more

I think this may be my new favorite coffee spot in St. Charles. Upshot Coffee (formerly known as VB Chocolate Bar, which I loved as well) has recently reopened their dine-in service option, with social distancing measures in place, of course. Upshot Coffee has a large area for indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff is SO friendly and helpful! I usually go for their batch brew single cup of coffee (the lovely Chimera blend), but the oat milk latte is another one of my favorite drinks. I recently tried the Wildberry Scone, and I can honestly say the quality of this scone is beyond any other I've had at other coffee shops in the area. As you walk in the front door, there is a refrigerated area with "Beets & Bones" bone broths, cold-pressed juices, food, etc. I recently tried the "Moon Shinin'" juice (lemon, lime, apple, tumeric, apple cider vinegar, ginger, cayenne) and it was incredible! The products are a bit pricey, but the quality makes up for it. This partnership between Conor VanBuskirk (Upshot Coffee owner) and Nick Zotos (Chef) is such an awesome idea, and I'm so excited to see the expansion of Beets & Bones!! Wow! I was so happily surprised to find this coffee shop in the suburbs. Sometimes when visiting family it's difficult to find a good latte and selection of food in a cafe or coffee shop. Everything about this place is great. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere transports you out of the suburbs, and the coffee and food is fresh and delicious. Also their prices are pretty incredible. I got the sourdough toast with ricotta and jam which was huge but so so good. The cheese and jam were so fresh tasting and even in a to-go order the food presentation was top notch. Their latte was a good, typical latte which is exactly what I want. I didn't realize this when ordering but I was happy to see that they offer Oatley oat milk! Not something I expected from a suburban coffee shop. read more

This place is awesome!! I'm only giving it 4 stars because I miss all of the chocolates and caramels VB used to make. I got one of the specials called the Smohka with almond milk. It had activated charcoal, mocha syrup, and sea salt on top! The latte art was a little untraditional (which I LOVED!) and they made mine look like a galaxy! It was super tasty too! The atmosphere is very streamlined and modern. It's a great place to get a lot of work done or study! They have a wonderful selection of pastries and cold pressed juices. They also do a ton of bone broths (beef, pork, chicken, turkey, and they even have a vegan one!). You can also buy VB's ice cream (which is so creamy and divine!) Really great spot with a good location. The staff was nice, the coffee was very good and I enjoyed my toasted bagel with cream cheese. This is a good place to work remotely, enough plugs to keep your computer charged! A lot and I do mean a lot of sunlight, lol, between that and the coffee you won't ever doze off. I love this place! I felt like I stepped into a coffee shop on a Hallmark movie! The shop itself and the area is so quaint. The food and coffee were great and the people were friendly. I did an online order for 11am and had to wait a bit longer because they were pretty busy - Sunday morning, ya know! I had the avacado toast and a witch's brew coffee and my son had the breakfast burrito and a brown sugar vanilla latte. We both loved what we ordered. I also got a bottle of their flavored syrup to take home. The only thing I didn't like was the $5 parking for their lot. I called upshot to place an order for pickup and was directed to order online. I hang up and go to order online but 2 of the 3 items are not listed. So I call back and ask if the items are available and the women said yes. I explained that I was told to order online but the items I want to order are not showing up on the online menu. She then told me the item I want to order is $11 (which was not accurate with the menu pricing online) and asked if I could find another item on the menu for $11 and just pick that instead and then in the "notes" write what item I actually wanted.... Okay. So at this point I'm like that's too much and because I have dietary restrictions it seemed like a mix up waiting to happen. I told the women that I would just come in and order in person. I rush over on my lunch break, order the food and waited over 25 min for a power bowl and donut. The woman handed me my power bowl and asked if I got my donut. No I replied so she ran back to get it and returns to ask if I need utensils.... yes, I reply. She goes in the back and gets me utensils and opens the door for me and I leave. At this point I'm just happy to have food but obviously super late back to work (which is why it would have been nice to have my order taken over the phone). I get back to work and my power bowl has no dressing! So I go to eat it dry and find that a lot of the kale is not only yellow but has brown spots! That's not the only disappointing thing about the bowl but I'll leave it at that. Very unhappy with the whole experience. They have given me regular bread on a gluten-free order and that is dangerous for my health. They have messed up my orders. And a few weeks ago my banana bread was hard as a rock. I've ordered three door dash orders from this coffee shop and every single time I have to call them to even confirm my order because it's been over 20 minutes and they've not noticed the incoming order. It'll be funny when we quit ordering cause you have to be asked continuously to acknowledge our money spent trying to get some breakfast but don't without waking you up. Mornings aren't leisurely around here that's why we get delivery. Could you please notice when you have an order so we don't have to do your job for you? VERY annoying. I ordered a mocha and a burrito. The mocha was very separated in the cup, I don't know if that was intentional or not, me personally I like it well mixed. It tasked mostly like chocolate milk I couldn't really taste any of the espresso. Maybe I needed to ask for espresso to be added? The burrito was a different story.
