I've been shopping at Upscale for many years now, I have told many of my friends and co-workers about the great deals and cute clothes that they sell. After this week, I will never step foot in this store. This started on Tuesday night, I looked online to see what time they closed and it said 8PM. I got off of work and walked in around 7:10, started to browse and saw an outfit on the wall that I needed, I asked an older woman working there if she could get it down for me and she did. She went back to sweeping the store in a hurry, and as she was sweeping I over heard her telling another customer that was with her daughter that one of her associates "didn't show up to work today and that she was having to close the store down at 7:30 today." As I'm still browsing she abruptly approached me and asked "Are you going to buy? Because I'm closing at 7:30." I told her I would buy it if it fits, and that I needed to try it on. So she lead me to the dressing room and I tried it on. While I was trying it on, she was rushing the other woman as well, and the customer told her that she had driven here all the way from Humble, she clearly was not happy either. The outfit was too small, so I ended up leaving. I didn't get too upset because from my understanding this woman was probably short handed and I just planned to return the next day. Although the manner this woman approached me was very unprofessional. Wednesday evening, around 7:15 PM again, I walked in and saw the same older woman working and another younger girl working. I thought to myself, good now I can shop without being rushed. I make my rounds and picked out a few things to try on, and asked the younger girl if she could get me a bigger size on the same outfit that was hanging on the wall, as she's doing so, I tell her that I was in the night before and I was basically rushed out by that older woman because she was closing the store down at 7:30. She didn't really react to it and just said "Yeah we always close the dressing rooms at 7:30 so that we can get out of here right at 8PM." I'm thinking to myself, wow. I've never heard of a clothing store that closes the dressing room early, only to benefit the people working there. I mean working retail, you close at a certain time, and that means the dressing room too? Am I wrong? So I continue to look and here comes the older woman again, telling me "Are you buying?! because we close the dressing room at 7:30." At this point I'm pissed. I tell her, "Look you did this to me yesterday, and I came back today, your sign on the front door says you close at 8PM. I've shopped here for many years and I've never known anything about you not allowing people to try on clothes at a certain time." She snapped back at me and pointed to a small hand written piece of paper taped on the wall near the dressing room that said something about them closing it at 7:30. Then she said "You must not shop here that much if you didn't know, there's a sign right there, and smirked and just kept pointing at the paper." She blew me off, she was extremely rude and disrespectful to me. So I go inside of the dressing room and I'm so upset that I didn't even bother to try on the clothes and told my daughter let's just leave. I kept my cool and left, I took a picture of the entrance door. What gets me is their return policy, even if you have a receipt you can NOT return or exchange a dress if you buy it. Which means if I walk in there at 7:35 and I'm not allowed to try it on, if I go home and it doesn't fit me, I'm screwed out of my money. Someone explain to me how fair that is to a consumer? It just doesn't make sense. I'm not the type of person to ever linger around shopping after a store closes either because I've worked retail for over 15 years and I know how frustrating that can be. To me this is just bad business. We are the ones keeping that business open by purchasing their clothes, but if they continue to have this type of outlook on running a business, it's not going to last. She was beyond rude, no sense of what customer service is. I had an encounter a few months ago with another older thinner woman working there that was chewing out one of her employees in front of customers and that was very unprofessional as well. I don't know if anything can even be done by my complaining, since it might be privately owned. But I will say that I do NOT recommend anyone spending their money there. I much rather take my business elsewhere. That's a nice shopping center and they shouldn't treat customers that way. read more

This place straight...whispers sweet nothings in my wallet's ears. It's got AFFORDABLE boutique apparel! I go to boutiques all the time, mostly to just scoff at the price tags that demand $69.99 for a dang see-through tank top with one cool button on it. But THIS STORE, has some of the exact same unique boutique clothing that I've seen at other pricey/trendy stores except less expensive. yay! The store description says it's a resale/consignment store, but it's not. Upscale for Less is in the same strip center as Sam Moon and owned by the same guy. Try it out, it's great! This place is awful. By the looks of the other reviews, they are in serious need of new management. My mom and I looked online and saw they closed at 8. I worked in retail for a number of years and am fully aware that this may be frustrating to employees who want to go home on time. That being said, we decided before going in that we would be in and out quickly. We came in at 7:15 and as soon as we walked in the door, we were told the store would be closing in 15 minutes. Not even a "Hello, welcome to the store." NOTHING, just straight up rude. We we a little confused and told the employee it was only 7:15 and she got really rude and started making smart remarks. Mind you, we were really just confused because we thought they closed at 8. She responded to our confusion by calling us rude, saying she has the right to refuse our service and saying that "Other people have lives to". I've never had an altercation like that with an employee. And all because we were trying to ask why she was trying to get us out of there 45 minutes before they closed. She wanted to refuse our service because we came in 45 minutes before closing. Good luck to this store if this continues. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Wouldn't even call it customer service. Please don't shop here!!!!! read more

Cute clothes for a reasonable price. Staff sucks, seems that they are ready to leave, hate their clearance rack, very disorganized.

I purchased a full price dress from this store. I tried to exchange it three days later unworn with tags and receipt because I couldn't find a bra to wear with it. When I tried to exchange it she asked me for my receipt I gave it to her. She told me I couldn't exchange it because it was considered a "formal" dress and that it was on the receipt. The receipt says NOTHING about formalwear. I have never purchased anything that I could not at least exchange for store credit. Absolutely ridiculous! read more

I know there's been complaints about closing times and management issues, however I'm usually there around lunch times because that's when I'm free to shop without my toddler so I don't usually run into that problem. It does suck that they're always short handed (that's not necessarily their fault though) but I always find things there that I normally find online at some boutique, but it's HALF to a QUARTER of the other boutiques price and it's not cheap quality which as a bargain shopper I appreciate so so much. I also love the location because it's right next to my other favorite stores like Sam Moon and Style Encore. Only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 is because I do feel like as its popularity has grown, so has its prices, Which I understand, I mean you have to keep business running. I just don't want them to get in over their heads like all the other boutiques that love their products WAAAAY to much. Customer service is horrible almost to the point I don't want to shop here. I had an issue with an item and contacted them about it and the owner claimed that I could have possibly been the one to mess up the clothing and she doesn't have proof that I didn't. Don't work here! For some reason minors get paid $.50-1.50 less then what they offer, and due to COVID they are paying new employees $8 an hour compared to before COVID which was $9 an hour. Also, many of us get tricked into getting paid .50 cents less for more than 2 weeks because we are suppose to be getting "trained". In my case, I was told that I would get paid .50 less for two weeks but she added another week because I "only made a few hours" and we didn't really get trained on anything. Oh and with hours, because of COVID she said that we would make 15 hours a week, but that slowly became only 8-10 hours a week and told us that we couldn't get more hours because she "can't give over time". Please don't work here, management is horrible and it's really hard to get a discount from the store, she gives a 20% discount but only if you spent $10 on each item and we can only get the discount right before or after work, and we were not allowed to go in on our days off to buy and get a discount. She is incredibly rude by making remarks or comments on the employees or costumers. She "joked" one time on my day off to "put the clothes away after trying them on," she was so rude to me and my mother and later realized that she was actually upset at me because I didn't put the clothes away ON MY DAY OFF!! She also makes up scenarios on certain questions, like pay or hours just to keep us from repeating ourselves. She's also really inconsiderate because she will yell at your or get mad for anything that is an inconvenience to her like doctors appointments, or just days of in general even considering that the schedule is made a week at a time on Saturdays. In the end she only hires girls to sweep and mop once a week because the older woman that works there only puts girls on the schedule in the afternoon and she works the whole day by herself, and when we get there she micromanages everything we do but some how has time to play knock off candy crush. read more

I was in the store Sat. Oct 12, 2013 with my two granddaughters. The music overhead was playing. I was shocked to hear the "F" word countless times in a song (?) that used the "B" word as well. It was offensive and vial. No one under the age of 21 should be allowed in the store. I cannot believe a department store in a public shopping strip would allow this type of music (?) to be played. I was told it was a CD playing. When I was speaking with my granddaughters about my disbelief a store employee thought it was funny and laughed out loud. I have never encountered a situation like this in 64 years and I wish I had done and said more at the time. I believe playing this music violated the law. read more
