We were extremely excited to check this place out arrived around 10pm on a Saturday night. The initial vibe of the atmosphere was very 1pm coffee shop "ish" Very bright lighting, small interior, no swanky decor. There was no music not even light background only the sounds of random chatter . No ambience what so ever! We sat at the bar for every bit of 15-20 min and watched 3 male bartenders serve around us as if we weren't there. We both felt that a little odd no greeting of any sort either. After being overtly ignored we just assumed we weren't welcome and decided to take our business elsewhere. I will be filing a formal complaint with management regarding that issue but overall it was a bummed experienced on our first spring weekend out. read more

Our group of friends came out for an afternoon drink and some food as we had heard great things about the bar and seen pictures of the beautiful view. 2 of our friends joined late and brought their sweet, quiet, and adorable 15 month old, Henry. They were accosted by the host after entering who demanded that they leave. Why? The 15 month old baby was under 21......are you kidding me? They kicked out two parents because their child couldn't furnish an ID. This isn't some thumping club. This is a relatively quiet bar that serves food. Besides Henry was already so drunk that we'd had to cut him off. Jokes aside though I was deeply offended that this place kicked my friends and their adorable child out, citing "I can't lose my liquor license". They took advantage of my friend. Charged him 30$ per shot of tequila. No he didn't order the wrong thing, no they didn't tell him beforehand, no he wasn't too drunk and not paying attention. I went to grab a drink and a bite to eat at the rooftop bar. My sister and I were greeted by the front door staff as we walked in. Before we could even fully walk through the door a guy said "if you're here for the bar, it's closed. I'm sure you can find somewhere much better to go to." As a poc, this feels racist. The bartenders are horrible. As a consumer I felt so bad, as if I annoyed them. The male bartender with the beard was the worst. He was very short didn't want to take our order, he does NOT need to work with people. His attitude was unacceptable. I've been wanting to patronize the establishment for awhile. Our first time at UPBAR was last weekend. We arrived at 6:45 and they were already out of nachos. We ordered the charcuterie board. Very poor presentation, huge board with a few pieces of meat and cheese and like one cut up piece of toast. It looked so sparse and was over $20! The kitchen employee (not our server) brought us our board and walked away abruptly without giving us plates or utensils. We eventually got her attention again, and she came back with paper plates and plastic utensils, tossed them on the table without even looking at us and walked away. Rude! And who wants to use cheap plates and utensils with a pricey appetizer? Lighting is too bright and the ambience was just ok. We will probably go back again in the nicer weather for a drink and sit on the pretty patio. But this was a bad first experience. read more

We ventured into this rooftop bar after spending some time shopping in Midtown. Don't let the rooftop experience intimidate, this place is approachable. The cocktails make the trip up worth it, and there is no reason to stay hungry with their selection of small plates. The service staff seemed new, eager and friendly. Been here 3x now. First was about 3months ago. It's very new. So a lot of people haven't caught on to it yet. The first visit was a date with my lady. It was around maybe 7:30p on a Thursday I believe. Bar decor and scenery is about a 3.5 out of 5. This particular day. We order the nachos, garlic wings and two flights of the margaritas. Food was pretty decent. The nachos were very good. Had the balcony to ourselves. Which was unexpected. We stayed maybe an hour and a half. Service was attentive considering it was only maybe 12 people there. I revisited a second alone. I was craving some nachos. This time it was maybe on a Sunday evening. The bar was like a ghost town. Maybe a few hotel residents and a sprinkle of college students. I order the nachos again. I waited maybe 30mins. My food came out and the nachos were cold. I sent it back. They made some more. This time the food came out. It was hot. But way less food than the first plate that came out which was cold. By then I was starving so I just ate it. They didn't comp me either. Which is cool. I just left didn't even order a drink. The most recent visit was maybe a week from the time of this review. My cousin wanted to have his birthday party here so it was quite a few of us attending. This was on a Saturday evening (6p) during the NBA playoffs with a outside temp of 75 degrees. We expected a big crowd. It's was at least 14 in our party alone. Upon, arrival it was a decent crowd. Maybe 60 people collectively from the inside to both outside balcony's. We were still able to have an entire section on one balcony to ourselves that wasn't reserved. Here is the part where things went downhill. This place was completely understaffed in my opinion as well as others. Customer service stinks with the exception of one server. They only had two bartenders and two floor staff members. On a Saturday evening. Our server informed us that when we arrived the bar had no chicken wings, and short of a few other menu items. Ok cool. We're hear now. We'll work thru that. We order drinks. All of our drinks took anywhere from 20-30mins to receive them. No lies. Even when walking up to the bar. This was not a really crowded establishment. Our server would take 15 mins to return mainly because we noticed she was partying and dancing with other patrons. Meanwhile, our drinks never arrived or by the time they did. They were watered down. I ordered several rounds that came out 15-20 mins late watered down or wrong orders. When our food orders came out they were staggered even though most of us ordered at the same time. Food was cold. Orders were mixed up. It was just complaint's galore from everywhere. We all asked our server several times to clean the tables in which she replied ok. But never did. Even when she brought out our orders. We asked if they would put the NBA playoffs on. They didn't have one channel that supported it. Terrible disappointment. We asked to speak to the manager or floor manager. She said he was the bartender. This guy never looked up. Never addressed any concerns. Never walked around in a barely filled bar to greet patrons. Just nothing. All of us agreed this place has the potential. But the staffing and lackluster management along with horrible service will drive this place in the ground before it ever really takes off. Anyone with an ID from out of state, you may want to bring another form of ID. You get carded when you walk in and they scanned my MN ID and their scanner told them my ID expired in 2000. My ID expires next year and I know there's no issues with it because I've been through airport security with it 5 times this past year. The manager wouldn't let me in and my friends and I had to leave. I understand that they may receive many fakes and they might have thought mine was one but the situation was not handled nicely (very rude management). They don't take reservations so they will let you wait in a "line" for over an hour but allow other people to walk right passed you to take the table they said you would get. This was my second time coming to this place and I will never go back. When we walked in, it was about 8pm on a Saturday night and not very busy yet. The employees just stared at us and we could tell they were annoyed more people had walked in. there was one girl serving on the patio and two bartenders. You could tell they were short handed. We sat at the bar because there were no servers inside so we thought it would easier since you had to order with the bartenders. The one bartender who had dark hair a beard and glasses was not welcoming or friendly at all. He kept telling people to go to the other side of the bar to order because he was busy. There was one other guy who then had about 15 people waiting for him to take their orders. We had one drink and were there for over an hour because one bartender would not take orders and one was taking everyone's orders in the bar. The bartender and server were complaining infront of customers about how bad their tips were and how they wanted to walk out. They were slamming and throwing things behind the bar and cussing. The server got in an argument with a group of customers about her tip infront of everyone in the bar. We ordered food and all of it was wrong, but we knew they were busy so we did not make a fuss about it. My friend ordered the sampler app and only got wings and the bartender came up to us and got in her face trying to argue with her that that is what she ordered. My friend was literally shocked and just said she didn't but it was fine. They made the atmosphere horrible. They did not want anyone there and good thing for them I'm sure everyone in that bar that night would never return. The ambiance is horrible, and it was dirty and gross. I understand being short staffed, but you should not act like having customers is a burden. Attended a corporate happy hour in the bar area. Love the indoors and outdoor patio spaces and great views. The glass bar walls slide open to make it one large space. Hotel's website reads masks required and the hotel employees were wearing masks but not the bartenders or any other staff member in the bar! Hand sanitizer was placed in strategic locations and a masked hotel staff member came thru once and wiped door knobs, etc. Drinks are unique; had the Blood orange Mojito... odd - no sugar was added and didn't taste oranges, was OK. 2nd one I ordered, bartender forgot the mulled mint! Returned the cocktail and was remade correctly. The bartender who severed me apologized and he was very polite, friendly & helpful throughout the evening. Food was OK. Reads tasty on the menu but disappointing when eaten. We had appetizers. The stuffed rav of the nite was spinach artichoke but weren't fried, they where white and floppy with not much flavor. Can't tell you what flavor the pot stickers or chicken drummies were, no distinct flavor. Nothing tasted bad; just bland to the point you couldn't tell what you were eating. To be honest the sauces were the hit and had more flavor than the food. The red pepper hummus with a hint of spice was the highlight of the food we ate.
