Eric / Eduardo helped to resolve a nightmare leftover from the incompetent, crooked seller. What I thought was a clogged toilet turned out to be a misconnected sewage line that went to the yard instead of the main sewage line. The Up to Code Plumbing team efficiently troubleshot the situation and demonstrated their years of experience as they pointed out several issues from the previous contractor. Eric was very patient and helpful through the payment process as I dealt with the seller. I definitely know who to go to if I need to resolve a plumbing issue!! read more

Unfortunately, I am writing this review as part of a trend. We recently encountered an issue with our upstairs toilet and a persistent odor. We recently had a visit from Eduardo from Up to Code Plumbling through AHS. It is almost humorous that Up to Code Plumbing sends a backgrounder on Eduardo, talking about his hobbies and his love for his dog to frame the individual as a warm, helpful service provider looking forward to doing business. Our experience was anything but when it came to Eduardo. Upon arrival, he was standoff-ish and showcased that he had not even bothered to review the reported issues before his arrival. Upon entry into the home, we provided him a piece of equipment that we were instructed to give to him upon arrival. His response was to question what this was- that can be accepted, people should question. However, when we explained it to him, his response was simply, "I can't take this," and he tossed the item aside. Upon being brought to the bathroom/area in question, he proceeded to ask questions about what we thought was going on. We explained that we had a persistent odor from the bathroom and had isolated it to the toilet. He asked when we smelled it. We told him it is persistent. He said, "Well, I don't smell it," and asked when we last smelled it. We again explained that it is persistent, so we smelt it last evening and even today. At this point, thanks to his gruff responses, he simply stated he would contact his dispatch. Upon requesting confirmation of his name, he refused to give it. When ask what his number was, he asked why we were inquiring when we noted to complain about your customer service. He again refused to provide his name and tried to reframe the interaction that we had not answered his questions/could not answer his questions. Upon calling Up to Code Plumbing directly, we were unable to speak directly to a supervisor. Up to Code Plumbing may have the technical skills to do plumbing jobs- we wouldn't know as we did not even make it that far. So this review is solely based upon their interactions and customer service approach- which is 100% absent. If you are choosing between services and you have a choice, do not go with Up to Code Plumbing. As this is not the only complaint about Eduardo on this YELP! page, perhaps Up to Code will consider addressing customer service with this individual. Currently, Up to Code sends the following preamble with Eduardo's picture: "Hello my name is Eduardo and I'll be your technician today! I like to spend time with my brothers and family. On my free time I love sports, playing basketball, and walking my German Shepard named Riley. I've had several years of plumbing experience with multiple certifications and I like to help people." It is very clear they need to revise this simply to say: "I've had several years of plumbing experience with multiple certifications and I DO NOT like to help people and place NO value in any aspect of customer service or cordial communications." Again, if you have the choice, please consider doing business with anyone else. read more

Amanda, the scheduler/dispatcher/coordinator, is an unsung hero. I have been enjoying working with her for many years. Her prompt and timely communication kept me abreast of job progress, and her friendly demeanor made an otherwise stressful situation more manageable. Unlike many other plumbers who are oftentimes non responsive and/or opaque, Amanda did a great job in keeping the process and the cost transparent. I wish we had more customer service oriented people like her. read more

Got them though AHS(home warrant)) and thought they would be great because they have such great reviews. They sent Edwardo, he spent 5 mins and called AHS regarding my clogged toilet that does not have access port. Need to pull the toilet to pull the toilet to snake it. ASH denied the claim. The 1 start is for the price they gave me to pay out of pocket to remove the toilet and snake it. $880. I understand my house is 3 stories so it takes some effort to take the snake up the stairs which we would have helped with but it should not cost this much, when they are already $113 from AHS for coming to my house. read more

Eric the owner is very professional, knowledgeable, persistent and reliable. We needed replacement fixtures and parts that were hard to find and expensive. He got AHS to cover them and he came 3 times to make sure everything fit. My previous poor review turned out to be mainly AHS's fault rather than Up to Code Plumbing's fault. AHS Insurance pushed a buyout without my consent and incorrectly notified me that the plumber has reported "service completed." He hadn't. Eric then fixed the issue with AHS and all my broken fixtures. Bonus: We also enjoyed his highly entertaining stories. Great business. Thanks Eric! read more

Edward Marin was exceptional. He installed my Moen device and went above and beyond. He was professional, courteous, kind, informative, and pleasant to work with and have at my home. First...special thank yous to Amanda, the office administrator at Up To Code. What a delight and exceptional support she has been. As a real estate agent/property mgr, it's encumbent upon me to get the JOB done. This is wholly dependent upon the vendors I utilize to get the tasks successfully addressed. Amanda coordinated the arrival of the plumber, Josh, with the scheduled H2O shutoff in a large condo complex, NO EZ TASK!! So Josh is the STAR plumber of the month. He arrived right as scheduled, TIMELY, knew in advance which parts were necessary to correct our leak, KNOWLEDGEABLE, got to work immediately, FOCUSED, and made a point to clean up with RESPECT!! This is ABOVE and BEYOND!! KUDOS to this plumbing service and to the (2) two fantastic Up to Code employees. TY again, Amanda and Josh! Such a pleasure. read more

I was overall pleased and would recommend UTC if you're looking or have been referred. read more

Up To Code Plumbing are my go-to plumbers. Over many years I've relied on them for a variety of plumbing needs. Emergency services have included dealing with leaks in water lines, clogs in drains and sewer lines, and failing water heaters. Maintenance services have included replumbing of old sinks, showers, and bathtubs, also replacing dysfunctional fixtures and old corroded iron piping. In every case the results have been 100% satisfactory. So when I've got a plumbing problem or need I call Up To Code, and then I stop worrying. I can count on quick responsiveness, expert and honest assessments of the work needing to be done, skillful execution, successful completion of the work, and meaningful communication throughout the process. Eduardo was very knowledgeable and had all the parts needed for my faucet. I have a vintage tub and was impressed that he could do the repairs that I needed. Big thanks for your services. read more

Though price had been agreed upon, Eric negotiated again at the beginning of a job. Very expensive for a simple job.

Eric, the owner, arrived timely this morning and went above and beyond the call for service. He repaired the drain blockage concern and also helped with the faucet's water flow issue. He was professional, knowledgeable, personable and efficient. With all that he brings, I'd say he's a great value. Don't hesitate to reach out to Up to Code Plumbing. read more

We reached out to our home insurance on November 19, 2022 regarding our electric water heater not producing hot water. We were assigned Up To Code Plumbing to our claim. Our first appointment was in November 23, 2022. The technician assigned to us was Josh Cox. He arrived, I showed him to the heater, looked at it for 10 minutes, and told me, we needed a new heater. At no point did he mention that it might be an electrical issue, but I totally get it. The business must stay with Up To Code Plumbing. Josh had me signed the receipt of service and his recommendation. He stated these documents would be emailed to me. To date, I have not received these documents I signed. I called to follow up on when we to expect our heater installation. I spoke to Amanda, she redirected me to call my insurance as I needed the approval first. I didn't know that was the next step. I wished Josh or someone from Up To Code would've given me a call with next steps, but I had to follow up. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, our new heater was scheduled to be installed in December 1, 2022. The day of installation, I received a call from Amanda indicating that the out of pocket that was quoted was incorrect. I never received any documents on the quote. I asked Amanda to send me the invoice for the out of pocket amount, she sent me one, but the amount was incorrect. I asked her to resend me the invoice with the correct amount, she stated, she didn't know how to fix it. She would need to wait for someone to help her. To date, I've never received documents on the service required for my heater. After the water heater was installed, we still didn't have hot water. After installation, Josh finally mentioned that it might be the electric breaker. I was very concerned at this point, we had not water, and we had a new heater, but now it might be an electric issue. Josh said to give it an hour for the hot water, if I still didn't have hot water, I would need to check the beaker. Josh had me sign documents of service completion and receipt of my out of pocket. Again, he stated I would get copies of these documents. I received the documents in December 12, 2022, but the amount of what I paid was/is incorrect. An hour or so later, Amanda called to check on how installation went. I told her we still did not have hot water. I then received a call from Eric, who was super helpful, and really tried to help us. He tried walking me through the breaker, but I couldn't fix the breaker. Thank you, Eric! After, we were able to call our insurance to get an electrician out, the electrician found water in our new heater in December 5, 2022. I called up To Code, spoke to Amanda to let her know of what the electrician found. I sent her pictures too. I received a call from Eric, we scheduled an appointment for the next day. Eric was super helpful, he came before 7am on December 6, 2022. I was able to get to work on time and he came to check in the water heater. When he checked for any water, we no longer had water. Thank you, Eric! Thank you for the tips too! The reason for my 2 stars is the lack of communication from Up To Code Plumbing. I am still waiting for documents from Amanda. We paid an out of pocket that was not needed. Yay for a new heater... I had to pay the electrician too. I do hope to receive the documents at some point. I needed the documents to call my insurance to review my out of pocket amount. Please note, we did not have water until December 5, 2022. I've attached a pic of the king 2 emails I have from Up To Code Plumbing. read more

Up To Code Plumbing - Plumbing Near Me

Water heater installation; pipes replacement; toilet replacement. Eric is the owner of the business and is honest and professional. Josh was the plumber who did the majority of the work. He overcharged me by hundreds of dollars, and didn't finish the job. Eric charged me an additional fee to complete the work. Josh did not return not my phone calls; installed the toilet seat improperly; failed to install a toilet seat cover on a second toilet overcharged me by at least $500 and misrepresented himself as an employee of the company after he was let go from Up to Code plumbing company. Bottom line: I was taken to the cleaners by Josh for a minimum of $500, and then I needed to pay the owner an additional $145 to finish the job. A warning to future clients: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you allow JOSH to do ANY work at your home or work. read more

My bathroom sinks were plugged up. Service was professional. Communication was on point. The problem was quickly diagnosed and solved.

I experienced two major plumbing issues. First, a toilet leak in a downstairs bathroom. Second, a 17 year old water heater in the garage began leaking through the garage and bedroom walls! Contacted my home warranty company American Home Shield (AHS) who assigned Up To Code Plumbing. I always research contractors assigned by AHS before any work is done in my home. Based on my research and on previous Yelp reviews, I requested Eric for the job. Eric arrived early, diagnosed the leak, confirmed it was covered by AHS, and within a few days returned with Eduardo, worked quickly and efficiently, repaired the leak as well as repairing worn master bath faucets. Due to pandemic, it did take extra time for parts to arrive but his solid work ethic was well worth it! Just a few weeks later, I had a major leak in a 17 year old water heater in my garage. Based on the impeccable work by Eric on my toilet leak, I again requested him for this repair. Within 48 hours, Eric arrived, diagnosed the leak, removed the water heater, set up a new heater in a temporary space in the garage, and notified I need water mitigation services before installing a new water heater to current code. These services were completed and Eric successfully installed a new water heater to code on a metal platform. I've seen the negative reviews yet despite them and based on the professional approach and experience from Eric to my two jobs, I recommend Up To Code for your plumbing needs! read more

Total scam and waste of time of a company. They were called out to my house from my home warranty policy and 1) they don't come prepared to actually do work that same day 2) take up to 2 weeks to schedule any meaningful work, meaning I had to pay someone else to snake a critical drain 3) left my house a mess each time they came through the house without cleaning up after themselves 4) took out a component of the sink (the stopper) that they committed to fixing but then when trying to schedule the upcoming service to replace the stopper, they wanted me to pay $170 x 2 sinks out of pocket to fix the issue. It's a $17 part at home depot. They're extortionists and complete con artists. Do not work with them to save yourself some hassle and piece of mind. There are plenty of honest plumbers out there. read more

Our toilet was leaking from the water input hose. We have and American Home Shield insurance who had us use Up To Code which was located in Torrance CA (22 miles away from the house in Long Beach). Josh came at the end of his day and said the hoses just needed tightened and said he fixed it. We left and the tenant came home the following evening finding the bathroom flooded from the hose that Josh fixed. It was after 5 on Friday and Up to Code was closed until Monday. Called Monday and Amanda (who was very nice and professional) said Thursday was as soon as she could get a plumber. This meant 5-6 days the tenant would have no water (needed to be turned off because hose was still spraying). Would not recommend if you needed someone to adequately diagnose and fix problem and be available in case the fix did not work. read more

Well, where do I start... In June, the shower in our master bathroom was dripping, and it got worse so we decided to call American Home Shield. Josh from Up-to-Code was sent to examine the shower. He pointed out there is something wrong with the valve, and he will get back to us in 2 days. Of course, no one got back to us. I called, the lady over the other side of the phone line said she would get back to me by 2 pm that day. No one got back to us. Then I called again (try not to be a pester, so I called 2 days later), no one answered. I tried again, no one answered. This is when I thought they were trying to avoid me. It was one month after Josh's initial visit. So I went to AHS' webpage and mark it as unfixed. This time the lady did call back and told me Josh would come with a valve. Josh showed up and the valve did not match (he did take pictures in the first visit). He took new pictures and told me he would come back next Monday or asap. Again, no one showed up or called to explain. After one week, I called them again. It was mid-August, and I felt angry. No one was taking the call, but I left an angry message. Of course, no one was offended or returned my call. I called AHS and got a real person to explain the situation and asked for a different plumber. They told me that Up-to-Code will be given another chance to respond the next day. Fine. The next day the lady called and told me Josh would come for the third time. He was actually there and took over the phone and said he had to take out the whole valve because otherwise he would not what to replace. So Josh showed up, no drill but a utility knife and something. He told me that he cannot take it out and we would have to drill a big hole on the wall and pull out the whole shower and replace the whole damn thing. Then he left. I was not even angry but found it ridiculous. The next day, AHS sent another plumber who correctly diagnose the problem and fixed it. No holes were drilled. Thanks, Up-to-Code, for the visits and the almost 2 months' wait for such a ridiculous experience! read more

I paid $75 to make the problem worse. Up To Code was assigned to me by American Home Shield for a leaky tub valve and a clogged drain. A technician came out to check out the problem. I was told that he needed additional parts to fix the diverter. I was also told that his "solution" for the clogged drain was to "throw bleach down there." After a week of no follow up, I called to see if they were going to fix the problem. The same technician came out and, in the process of attempting to fix the problem, he broke the valve leaving me unable to shower. I was told that it would cost me $600 dollars to repair his error. I will be remodeling the bathroom soon so it made no sense to put that money into something that will be removed soon. I called to request a temporary fix - an acquaintance who is a plumber told me that a simple temporary solution would be to remove the tub spicket and cap it off. The other option I gave them was to refund the $75 I already paid and I would find someone else to repair their damage. I was told that the owner would contact me; that was over 2 weeks ago and I have yet to hear from anyone. Currently I am "showering" with a bucket. It would be in your best interest to hire actual professionals. read more
