This is definitely more of a lounge than a restaurant or bar which I don't mind at all. I really enjoyed it - very fitting in this area. GREAT atmosphere - very inviting (lots of comfy couches and chairs) - the front patio will be an amazing place to relax in the warmer months. It's just around the corner from all the hot spots on Hyde Park Square. I just stopped in for happy hour (2 bucks off all apps, 6 oz wine, and beer) after a long day of shopping at Rookwood and it was just what I needed. The prices are very reasonable for the quality wines they serve. I got the bruschetta capra (thick pieces of toasted italian bread topped with a goat cheese mousse, sauteed shallots, honey, and lemon peel - it was really tasty). One weird thing I noticed was there wasn't any female staff - I'm not sure if it was just the night or what, but I just thought that was weird.... even if the customers are mainly women. I think it's worth checking out if you like this sort of feel - personally, I feel great in a place like this - even going alone. read more

Since moving away from the Midwest, Unwind is one of the few spots in Cincinnati that I really miss. The place has become a little too loud and busy since it first opened, but it's still a gem during their slower hours. Wine selection is extensive and amazing, of course, and bartenders and waiters are very knowledgeable and helpful in helping with your selection. Their managers and owner(s?) will also roam around and make friendly conversations and wine recommendations. There's cozy, indoor seating with dim lighting and fireplaces, as well as romantic outdoor seating with candles. If you can make it here when it's not too busy, it's a great place for a date (you may find yourself yelling over the noise if you come over the weekend). What an unexpected yet wonderful surprise! I was in Cincinnati for work, and the man at the front desk of the hotel recommended Unwind as a great place for a drink and small plates. Wow, he nailed it! This is a small, very warm and intimate wine bar in Hyde Park and I cannot say enough good things. I was there by myself and was nervous that I would feel like a complete creepster. But the minute I walked in, I felt invited. The atmosphere is upscale, but a little more rustic so it's very comfortable. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a very friendly bartender who was happy to chat with me. He recommended a glass of cab that was delicious and just my taste - not too dry but not too fruity. I'm a fairly boring eater so I just had their basic bruschetta, but it didn't taste basic. Nice crispy bread, very fresh tomatoes, and the perfect amount of basil and olive oil. A wonderful compliment to my wine. By the time I was ready to go, I was so relaxed and comfortable that I could have fallen asleep in one of their couches! And, over 50 of those are poured by the glass! The inside boasts a nice sized fireplace with a separate room to host parties if desired. They have a beautiful patio with plenty of seating and heaters/fans to help control the elements. If someone in your group doesn't thrive on wine, they also have a full bar with liquor and beer. Funny before last week, I've only been here twice and both times were for brunch. Huh? Yeah they serve a light brunch, which is pretty decently if you are not starving. Finally I came for happy hour with the girls. As expected, it was quite packed by the time I got there around 6:10 on Friday. We sat at a small 2/3 person table in the corner. It's cozy, and bustling, but not too loud that you have to raise your voice to be heard. Perfect for catching up with coworkers (quite a few people were dressed all spiffy from work). We each got a glass and then shared a bottle and some food: olives, bruschetta with tartar sauce (yum! bread was nice and crunchy), flatbread pizza, and the veggie burger. The veggie burger patty was surprisingly great: shiitake mushrooms did the trick. Service was wonderful. For a busy Friday evening, they weren't slow with our orders at all. My boyfriend and I dropped in on a Saturday night around 7 and were easily able to find a table for two. Though we are experienced wine drinkers we are not very sophisticated and found the 3 and 6 oz pours to be very accessible. There is a nice variety and they are all moderately priced. For the more advanced wine drinker there is an extensive bottle list. The atmosphere was charming and cozy on a cold winter night. There is an assortment of tables, bar stools, and couches inside, and I am excited to try out the patio when the weather warms up! The most delightful part of our visit was the assortment of small plates. We ordered the tomato tartare which consisted of roasted/sun-dried tomatoes with a goat cheese mousse on top and crackers on the side. It was absolutely fantastic! We also had a bruschetta which had the same goat cheese mousse over perfectly toasted bread. Though you certainly wouldn't come here for a full meal, it was a great way to start our evening. By the time we left around 8:30, the place was packed wall-to-wall. I attended an event here and really enjoyed myself! Their inviting patio led into a beautifully decorated space; so rustic yet cozy! I felt like I was transported to a high-end lodge! The bathrooms had beautiful granite countertops and ceramic tile, and very clean. The wine selections were wonderful and the small bites I sampled were the perfect pairing to my glass of wine. I love this place. You can come here for many reasons, from a first date to comforting your friend that just got dumped and wine always fixes the problem. The inside is similar to an upscale lounge and outside is great in the summer. They have lots of tables with fire pits and glass and other things to charm you. The wine glasses range from $9-$12 and everything I've had is delicious to drink. They offer multiple glasses of every varietal you can think of, and every server has an opinion as well. They have a couple premade flights but you can also ask to mix your own. The food is all vegetarian and I might've had the best black bean burger of my life (and I've had a lot of black bean burgers). The only downside is how crowded it gets on weekend nights. It seems to be a great place to go for people to meet that avoid the crowded bar scene downtown. I must confess, I'm not much of a wine-o. I was meeting a former colleague to catch up after years of missed connections and selected Unwind based on our agreed upon area of destination. That said, Unwind is exactly the kind of place I've been searching for in Cincinnati. A low key joint with plenty of character, room to breathe and a natural ambiance that keeps chatter hushed so you can hear who you're talking to without yelling. The two wines I samples were much better than I have had in the past. The Syrah Ja Ja from Lanquedoc, France was one of the best reds I think I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. Smooth and subtle, just barely astringent and if it was tannic at all, I didn't notice. The Vlognier Jaffurs from Santa Barbara, California my friend chose was also quite pleasing. Whites have never keen my preference, but the palate experience was very good. I didn't have any of the "light fare" but I hope to try something new upon each subsequent visit. Yes. If you're a fan of wine, this is the place for you! I came here once with my girlfriend (she goes all the time) and I was impressed. They have a nice outside patio area where you can just chill and sip on your favorite wine. They have a vast selection of wine, so you'll be able to find something you like. They also have some craft beers and a full bar. Also, they sell some food. Nothing too big or heavy. Mostly appetizers. Almost everything there is vegan or gluten free too, if you're into that kinda stuff. My girlfriend and I split the artichoke dip. It was very good. It had parmesan cheese and truffle in it. It also came with a few pieces of toasted bread. We ended up getting more bread with it because we quickly ran out and still had dip left. A great place to meet up with a small group - a max of maybe 6 will fit comfortably. The wine selection is vast, and the light fare is great. I tried two flatbreads and the goat cheese crostini and they were all fabulous. The goal is to nosh not to have a meal. Parking is a bit of a challenge - I drove around for a bit to find off street parking. They offer valet sometimes, but I did not partake. You can drop a little more money than you planned here easily The owner is very welcoming and you can tell it is a passion for him. This place is as good as it gets! It is quite literally one of my favorite spots in Cincy-tucked away in Hyde Park/Oakley area. The wine is a bit pricey which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I found a the name of my fav moscato and went to Jungle Jim's and bought a whole bottle cheaper than the price of a 6oz pour. But the ambiance is what makes this place so great. Especially on a summer/spring/fall night when you can sit outside. The food here is pretty good too. Great addition to the Hyde Park area! The wine list is great, decor is really nice (think aspen ski lodge) and wait-staff is attentive. Absolutely LOVED this place! It's all that I look for in a wine bar. Awesome wine, great service, good food, and a warm cozy environment. It's perfect for a date with your loved one, for catching up with your girlfriends, for a nice glass by yourself to unwind after work. It's just perfect. I came here one snowy cold winter night. The worst part of the night was probably the part where we circled HP looking for parking. But then we came into such a warm and classy room, dimly lit (but not so dark it's hard to see), with some soft music playing to help you relax the second you walk in. You look around and the place is beautifully decorated, and there's a very welcoming fire with nice comfy couches (of course, I went straight for the seat closest to the fire =). I would typically start a night at a nice wine bar with a flight, but they don't really do flights. Not a problem, because you have the option of smaller pours so you can build your own custom flight. I got some recommendations from the server, and added a couple of my own picks and created my own flight. Well, you can't have all this wine and not pair it with some delicious selections off the "light fares"... so we got the quail egg flatbread (per our server's recommendation), and it was amazing! We followed the flat bread with a slice of strawberry cheesecake that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious (not made in-house, but still, they chose a good bakery to order from!). What a gem of a place to have so close to home! ----------------------------------- Explanation of my rating system - 5*: Epitome of something, the best I've had, would LOVE to go back 4*: Great food and happy to go back regularly, but not the best of the category 3*: Food is fine. Highlight of the night: Mango Moscato for $6/glass during happy hour! My friend and I sat outside and enjoyed the summer breeze while we sipped and nibbled our way through the menu. The food was okay, nothing bad but nothing memorable. We tried a flatbread, a cheesy dip, and tacos. The tacos were notably difficult to eat due to the flat crunchy shell, but the goat cheese on top was delicious. We walked in and were greeted by the understated classiness of Unwind - wood barrel-adorned walls, intimate lighting, candle-lit dark wooden tables, and comfortable, plush chairs. Ive frequented a couple wineries in my lifetime but I lack the ability to pinpoint multiple notes and flavors in my wine. I just know that I prefer darker reds over white. Anyhow, I came here after a stressful Monday at work and I was ready for a drink so I did appreciate not having to look through an overwhelmingly extensive drinks list. Although don't get me wrong, they have just enough to cater to a variety of tastes (some of my friends weren't wine drinkers). Our server was nice and helpful and made very good recommendations. I ordered the Petit Sirah by Sexual Chocolate which was excellent (I'm not gonna lie, I was drawn by the name) and my friend gave positive reviews of the Pinot Grigio. I don't recall the name but I ordered some kind of mushroom dip. It was good but not spectacular. The prices weren't exactly cheap but fairly priced considering where they are located. After a 9oz pour, a refill, and appetizer, my bill came to about $26 which is double what I'd normally spend during happy hour. But I had a really pleasant time and I figured it's okay to treat myself once in a while. I recommend coming here if you prefer a more quiet ambiance. Well I am by no means a Wine-O but this place is really really awesome. The outside patio is amazing. The inside is dimly lit mood lighting with lots of couches, lounge style. They have 15-20 beers all in bottles, however, some of those are unique. Overall the crowd is late 20's early 30's. The fresh fare was all great. They had some great wines by the glass and an awesome spanish wine flight. The atmosphere was wonderful, inside and out.
