The tailor here is AMAZING, with a very quick turn around time and very reasonable pricing. Before taking her my wedding gown, I got a bridesmaid dress altered here, and she finished it in less than a week. She talks you through all your options and will tell you if she thinks there is a better way to alter the dress, even if that makes her less money. I took my wedding dress and my mother's dress to her, she got them both done within a week (during what I assume to be peak season), let us both try them on and make free adjustments if necessary, and they turned out beautifully. I initially took in 2 pairs of chino pants to see if they do quality work...I was so impressed that I took in 4 more pairs for them to alter! It's like having a brand new wardrobe at a fraction of the cost! They had to alter the legs, waist and crotch, cost approximately $30 each, but considering that new pants would have cost me double that (or more), it was a bargain, plus they fit perfectly! The owners are very friendly and respectful toward the customers. But, most importantly, they do quality work! In fact, I'm taking more items to them today! I highly recommend Universal Tailors! I decided to try this place based on my daughter in law's excellent experience. I needed a dress hemmed (rush job). I advised the lady I needed 1.5" shorter. She advised the material the dress was made of was very stretchy and would probably be too long after some use. She also suggested I try it on to get a better measurement as sometimes items aren't even. I have to say she could have just taken it and done as I requested but she wanted me to have it done right. The price was great, around the same, or less than I have paid at other locations. This will be my new go to alterations place. read more

I have been a customer for years. Since this is So Cal, I haven't needed a suit (and therefore tailoring) for 10 years. I am very surprised and saddened by some of the reviews. Mary has done quality work for me every time at reasonable prices. I would never consider going anywhere else. The older gentlemen who co-owned the place passed away a few years ago after a long illness. They also moved a couple of times during the same time frame. Cut them some slack. If they didn't smile at you or greet you perfectly, perhaps it was because of their situation. Hate them if you want, but there aren't that many mom and pop stores around anymore that do quality work. I ask them to do minor alterations. If you aren't happy that she cant make your size 2 dress fit on your size 8 body, that's your fault. If your arms are too short and the buttons on your suit sleeves are off, take it up with God...no one is looking at the spacing of the buttons...they are wondering why your arms are so short relative to your pear body. 5 stars for being nice people that do good work at reasonable prices. The lady who ran the shop stayed open and waited for me to arrive on a holiday (Labor Day). She was extremely knowledgeable about current trends and did amazing work with all 5 items. She was easily reachable on her phone despite the holiday and was very accommodating with our giant rush order. I felt the alterations for my suit were a bit pricey, BUT I had zero issues and it was stress-free business for myself as the consumer! Came in for another alteration. Alterations are 10$. It was so quick. She new what I wanted done right away with almost just looking at it. Most orders are done in 2 business days, but if asked and if I can be done, it can also be same day. You can send someone else to pick up your clothes, you dont need the ticket, but she will need a name and what was done. It is polite to give a call for a heads up on who is picking up the merchandise. read more

I've come here many times in the last few months. I bought some new suits and of course they needed a little bit of work and the owner does a great job. I'm usually in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. She gives me my total and I come back in 5-7 days to pick up my items. She even did a rush order for me one week and charged me a fair price. The prices are fair given the quality of work. I've gone to other tailors who had great reviews and they either left my pants too long or too short and it's so frustrating. When you find a good thing, you stick with it. You can't take chances when you spend hundreds of dollars on new suits. I'm glad I brought my items here and I will continue to bring them here. read more

Why does this place have such great reviews? I went in there to get alterations for my bridesmaid dress and the lady there seemed like she didn't even want to give me the time of day just because my dress was sequin and it was "too complicated." She also wanted to charge me about $60 just for the hem! I took it somewhere else and they charged me $25 and did an amazing job! Not to mention their customer service was excellent and friendly, unlike this place. They also said the sequin was no problem. I liked this place until I brought back my husbands pants that didn't get tailored correctly. I brought two pants, one to use as a sample of what I wanted the pants to look like (slim). They were the exact brand, material etc, just different color. One lady who works there (seems Korean) has broken English. She said she will fix it after I paid for it and came back. Following day I came back and she said she couldn't do it and to go next door to fix it. Ummm okay. What about the $10 I spend for you to get it done correctly? SHE LITERALLY WALKED ME OUT AND POINTED ME NEXT DOOR TO GET IT FIXED. Mind you, I was polite and friendly the entire time. Just give me what I paid for. All I wanted was to make his pant from straight to bootleg (it's a uniform). Shame on you! read more

Went here after reading the yelp reviews to get some pants hemmed. There was an older gentleman there, whom I assume was the owner. Very nice guy. He said that since the hem was for dress pants, it had to be an invisible hem, which was $10. That seemed to be about the going price based on the places I called. There was a dressing room for me to try the pants on, he made some marks, and I was on my way. The pants were ready 2 days later as promised, and it was perfect. Granted, this was just a hem, but nonetheless, the overall experience was very good, so it's 5 stars in my book. read more

The price of a silk kimono top was finally discounted to my price range from an online source. I bought it, but it didn't fit properly. The sleeves just looked wrong. The lady at Universal said that she couldn't match the stitching on the sleeves but she didn't think it would make a difference. She was right. The outfit was altered and now looks perfect. Best of all, it only cost $20 to make the repair. I will absolutely return for other alterations. read more

Ordered a suit for a wedding and was given pants a size smaller and way longer then my size. Unfortunately, they couldn't send me the correct size in time for the wedding in a week, however Universal Tailors was able to fix my problem in less than a day, and they did it perfectly.
