2nd time I've got vehicle smogged here. Very fast, professional and friendly. Think it's family owned which is another plus.

United Smog has got to be the best kept secret in Salinas. I am very picky who works on my vehicles, as I do my own mechanical work myself, (every mechanic is out to screw you)... That being said I have an 1986 Honda Accord and had issues with it running right. I'm not a foreign mechanic and was at a loss. I went to two other shops, one in Paso Robles that gave up, and Salinas Honda that had their 40 year supervisor tech mechanic try and repair. He was rude, cocky and if how to repair is not in the computer they have, they don't know what the hell they're doing. He said..... this car is junk and will never pass smog or run right!! Pissed off I called around and Jose at United Smog (owner) answered and I told him the story, his response was... I can fix it, bring it in. I was speechless !! But what did I have to lose other than another big bill. This place is tucked in the back corner of commission st and appeared clean in appearance. I met Jose who was very polite, knowledgeable and professional. After all my experiences I've had with this car, I reluctantly left my Honda that was my mother's first new car. (Sentimental to me) Let me tell you in two days he found all the issues, I had one shop install a new carburetor and Honda replaced spark plug wires, well the new carburetor was bad... go figure Salinas Honda specialist couldn't find, but Jose at United was right on it. Ordered new carburetor, Jose installed along with repairing other issues and HOLY MOLY I have a new running car!!!! Jose is the real deal and he is training his staff to learn hands on how to repair vehicles the ole fashion way along with new technology. You will not be disappointed giving Jose a chance. Please tell him I referred you all, cause he has a customer for life as long as I own a car I can't repair on my own. Thank You All at United Smog !!!!! read more

We have tried to do business with this company. All the reviews were good. I don't see how. The first My Daughter called to make an appointment, the lady was rude, but was able to take her car in. The second time which was last week. The lady who answers the phone refused to let her make an appointment. She stated she need to check if she could come in. What?!? The third time which was today. The lady hung up on her. What kind of company is this if the person who answers the phone is rude and unwelcoming. We will never ever try and do business with this company ever again. read more

I checked under my Chevy van hood because the fan belt was squeaking. I found a shredded fan belt tensioner. O'Reilly Auto parts, I purchased new belt & tensioner pulley ($126) great price. Juan (not Two) was extremely Efficient In getting me the correct belt and pulley. Then he gave me the best advice of all, "United Smog Check" to get the repair done. The shop was spot-less! I pull my Van & 17' trailer in the yard. Within 15 minutes Carlos is on it. Bam, parts all in & running smooth as silk. They charged me $98 for 1hr. That is a 2010 price. Tina wrote it up. Bam! I'm back on the Road w/ 3000 miles to go. I ran to the store an get some chocolates, waters and Carlos' favorite holiday beverage as a $33 tip. Very Honest, Very Fast, Very Rare. Came In for a smog check and unlike other businesses nearby they were nice, courteous and didn't try to sell me things, buy my car , or treat me differently because I'm a girl. Highly recommend this place if you know what you want and don't want any bs read more

I was amazed at how fast I was taken care of. I needed a smog check. I called and they invited me to come in and were very clear the hours they were going to close for lunch, and when they were going to reopen. When I got there, the place was clean and clearly marked for social distancing protocols. I gave them my paperwork, keys and information. I then sat down outside in the fresh air and started to relax. I was not even 15 minutes when I see my car being driven out and placed in front of me. I thought the mechanic was going to take the car for a drive. Nope, he was done! Very professional, nice people. I looked at the list of services as I was paying and I definitely will be bringing all my cars back here, not just for smog checks, but for all my vehicles needed services here. How many times does someone think, I look forward to coming back her for them to help me again? read more

Good people, good service! Came in for a smog check as a walk-in, and they got us in & out pretty quick! (Which is always a bonus when you wait until the last minute to renew your car registration.) The front desk attendant was friendly and helpful. The front office is pretty cool looking too; I liked the bench made from an old truck bench. Thank you, United Smog Check! read more

Wow. THAT WAS EASY! I just bought a '95 BMW and the Smog Check was outdated.. no big.. well yeah it is, or it can be.. The Gentleman that did my smog certification was knowledgeable, experienced and friendly. The waiting area was also clean and comfortAble. With a nice toy to occupy my grandson. Most of the good reviews are for smog tests and not the repairs on our sorry local smog places. I think if I pay a lot for an expensive part to replace, the people should be able reserve a time for me instead of waiting in line behind the mob especially since my car is still failing about 4 smog tests bad when it wasn't a gross polluter here. Place is crowded, noisy, always colder. Prices are the lowest in town, though. The best mechanics are still at shops that don't do any smog tests. read more

Super quick, super simple, super inexpensive. Everything you hope for from a car/smog place. Just make sure you bring your DMV registration form or whichever other document you need for your car. There is signage everywhere stating just that. It seems to be a recurring issue. Also keep in mind that the smog certification goes through digitally, so aside from your receipts and whichever paperwork you entered the building with, you don't need any other documents from them. read more

I did not start out with the intent of visiting United Smog Check, but I'm glad I did. My regular smog shop was closed because of a vacation, so I looked on Yelp for an alternative. United was nearby, the reviews were good, and I was on my way. I showed up without an appointment, but they were still able to get my car in quickly. The woman running the office was very pleasant and helpful, and the smog tech was quick and efficient. I also learned that they do other services and repairs besides smog checks. I will be back! read more

Brought my RV for a smog check to Fox Auto in Seaside and the mechanic/owner said I needed a new carb. I just had the carb rebuilt, so I got a second opinion at United Smog Check.
