It only occurred when the weather was hot. Basically, only summer afternoons. We had PG&E come out repeatedly and they could not find the source. We spoke with plumbers and other heater repair companies. All of them told us that it was not our heater; that we were wrong about the inconsistency of the smell. That gas leaks are only consistent and would not happen only when it was hot. We were told that we must be wrong. We felt like we were going crazy. Until we called Bay Area Water Heaters and Dave came out (with a whole crew). He took the time to inspect our heater and said yes, this slight gas smell on hot days is something he had heard of. It was likely due to an old valve within the control panel. He walked us through our options but ultimately suggested replacing the entire heater. His team was able to do the job right then and there and at a reasonable rate. It was completed within the hour. And sure enough, no more gas smell in our garage. Dave and his team were amazing and incredibly professional. We will be using this company again.

I had scheduled a service appointment and needed to cancel. I understand that cancellations impact a schedule, so I remained completely calm and polite throughout the conversation and paid their full cancellation fee immediately without hesitation or dispute. Despite complying with their policy right away, the owner became hostile. He lost his temper, raised his voice, and berated me for how much the cancellation hurt his business. A cancellation fee is meant to cover lost time--it is not a license to yell at and lecture paying customers who are speaking respectfully. Handling ordinary business interactions with this level of aggression and emotional volatility is completely unacceptable. I would strongly advise against dealing with an owner who treats customers this way.

We needed an urgent replacement of our gas water heater as we are expecting and hosting guests and needed hot water immediately. I called their customer service line to schedule an appointment and they were able to solve our problem right away. I called yesterday afternoon and Jessica was able to schedule an appointment for service first thing in the morning the next day. Luis B. arrived on time, was extremely professional and knowledgeable, and was able to diagnose the issue right away. After identifying the problem, I let him know we needed hot water as soon as possible for our guests we are hosting. He acknowledged my situation and confidently assured me that hot water would be restored. Luis B. walked me through the problem, provided solutions with great knowledge, and shared several options for replacement of the water heater. He gave me choices on how to move forward and was able to answer any questions I had about the packages they offer. Once I made my decision, he quickly went to work to replace our old unit. He was extremely professional, performed clean and precise work, was communicative throughout the whole process, and was very fast to solve our problem. Luis B. was in and out and completed the job within an hour and a half. Overall, from initial phone call to final completion of the water heater replacement, the service was amazing. The whole experience was professional, understanding, effortless, and true to expectations by completing the job within 18 hours of calling them. They provided an outstanding experience and service at a fair price and I would highly recommend Payless Water Heaters to everyone. See the work for yourself in the pictures. Thank you to Luis B. and the Payless Water Heaters team! JP

-Dishonest -Predatory and high pressure sales tactics…read more -and didn't even resolve the problem Let me start by saying that I paid them the $398.72 fee for coming out to inspect and attempt to unclog our kitchen drain. So please don't bother trying to remove this review. Play by play on tactic (TLDR): They failed to unclog our kitchen drain, crawled underneath the house to check out pipes. Offered to try unclogging again, but we declined because it didn't work the first time. Then it was suggested that we replace the entire kitchen line which is older metal piping. In good faith we thought they were genuinely providing a solution and we said that we'd like a quote for what a replacement would cost. Well here comes the fun part, a project manager was sent out to provide the quote. The gentleman was very friendly, spent time talking to us, talked about his family and asked about ours. Bonded with us over having children. Then told us, the quote is ready, please review. We were given a quote to replace 25ft of old piping with pvc, the quote was for replacing everything underneath our kitchen, and includes a new clean out, and doing a flush of the system (which was a freebie which normally cost $2400 alone), before and after pipe replacement. Access to the piping was straightforward, no oddity or special circumstances in our home. (They crawled and checked it out and said so themselves) They quoted us $7700 for this job, told us that they provided high quality work for this price and they are fixing other people's mistakes constantly which ends up costing more if we go with other cheaper options. Our gut said this quote felt unreasonably high and proceeded to ask what kind of discounts can you do. he tried to get me to tell him a price I wanted to pay. I said I have no reference points and I'm not in a position to know what is a fair price for this since they were the first ones to come out. Told him I'm going to get a few other quotes, and was then pressured to give a price again and he said he can call management to get approval. But if we do that I'd have to sign right away. He will not enter negotiations without a commitment that we'd sign today. (Let's turn up the pressure here...) I said give me your best quote and asked how long is your quote good for? And he said I'll give you five days. (I clearly read in the estimate contract draft that standard quotes are good for 15 days.) He said, great I'll check back in 5 days and see if you're ready to negotiate. But I don't know if I can do the same price beyond that. Conclusion: called 3 other companies for quotes they all came in under $3500 for the exact same scope of work. Even better ending is that one of them was able to just unclog the pipe and also crawled underneath to inspect and told us that the existing pipe is actually in great condition, no need to replace. Of course all the other companies would not provide as high quality of work as knockout plumbing and repipe claims to do. And it's funny how they didn't even solve my problem with their high quality bar, while a less expensive and "lower quality" provider did the job. I don't even want a refund, I just want everyone here to know about their tactics. And know that some people working here are intentionally trying to take advantage of you when you are vulnerable and need help. If I were the owner of this company, I'd take a good look at what's going on and do something to fix this. Mic drop. Thanks for reading.
