Serge did an amazing job disassembling my old desk (a fairly standard writing desk) and assembling…read moremy new adjustable/standing desk. He really went above and beyond in every aspect, from responding promptly to methodically assessing the setup of my new desk.
I initially reached out for an estimate through Yelp, and he responded super quickly with both a quote and his availability. He made time to come out on a Sunday morning, which I appreciated since a few other companies I was looking at only worked weekdays.
While I had no worries about Serge's ability to disassemble my old desk, I was initially concerned about him maneuvering my new one, as it's very heavy - 180 pounds in total. I actually tweaked some of the muscles in my hand bringing the boxes in initially, and I didn't want anyone I hired to potentially injure themselves as well during the setup. Serge reassured me that he could handle it himself, which he did expertly. I was super impressed by this, as most folks who've set up this desk have required two people to flip it over and move it into place.
I initially thought I'd try tackling this project myself or with a friend, and I'm honestly so glad I reached out to Serge instead. When we discovered that printed instructions hadn't been included in the box for my new desk, he had no problem reading through the online instructions on his phone. It's definitely easier to have full-size, printed instructions while assembling furniture, but Serge reassured me through the whole process that it wasn't something to worry about at all. Small details like this - his reassurance and adaptable mindset - are what made me really glad I went with his services over someone else's, or trying to do it myself.
Serge was also fantastic at troubleshooting and figuring things out in real time when he ran into a slight roadblock midway through assembling the new desk. In putting the top onto the frame of the desk, he realized that the pre-installed inserts for the top were for bolts rather than screws, and it didn't seem like the proper bolts had been provided. I was initially worried that I'd perhaps have to run to the store to get some, or that I'd have an incomplete desk on my hands. After all, a handyman can only put something together to the extent that the has all the materials needed to assemble.
I would've completely understood if he told me I needed to get the proper bolts and have him come back to finish the assembly. Instead, Serge reassured me by saying, "Don't worry - this is my problem, not yours." He took all the stress off of troubleshooting, and after a few minutes of research, he figured out the issue and had the desk successfully assembled!
Serge finished the entire project in just under two hours. After seeing all the small things he worked through in real-time, I'm so glad I went with him to help with the job. In particular, his ability to take initiative throughout the job and his reassuring, calm, and friendly demeanor stood out to me. He charged a fair price for the project and made sure all the little details were right, like checking what side I wanted the sit-stand controller on and handling all the cable management on the underside of the desk. As it was raining when he arrived, he even went as far as to take his shoes off and leave them outside so he wouldn't bring water or dirt into my apartment. This thoughtfulness was such a respectful and considerate touch.
Also, my dog absolutely adored him. She's a great judge of character, and she gives him ten stars. :)
