Serge did an amazing job disassembling my old desk (a fairly standard writing desk) and assembling my new adjustable/standing desk. He really went above and beyond in every aspect, from responding promptly to methodically assessing the setup of my new desk. I initially reached out for an estimate through Yelp, and he responded super quickly with both a quote and his availability. He made time to come out on a Sunday morning, which I appreciated since a few other companies I was looking at only worked weekdays. While I had no worries about Serge's ability to disassemble my old desk, I was initially concerned about him maneuvering my new one, as it's very heavy - 180 pounds in total. I actually tweaked some of the muscles in my hand bringing the boxes in initially, and I didn't want anyone I hired to potentially injure themselves as well during the setup. Serge reassured me that he could handle it himself, which he did expertly. I was super impressed by this, as most folks who've set up this desk have required two people to flip it over and move it into place. I initially thought I'd try tackling this project myself or with a friend, and I'm honestly so glad I reached out to Serge instead. When we discovered that printed instructions hadn't been included in the box for my new desk, he had no problem reading through the online instructions on his phone. It's definitely easier to have full-size, printed instructions while assembling furniture, but Serge reassured me through the whole process that it wasn't something to worry about at all. Small details like this - his reassurance and adaptable mindset - are what made me really glad I went with his services over someone else's, or trying to do it myself. Serge was also fantastic at troubleshooting and figuring things out in real time when he ran into a slight roadblock midway through assembling the new desk. In putting the top onto the frame of the desk, he realized that the pre-installed inserts for the top were for bolts rather than screws, and it didn't seem like the proper bolts had been provided. I was initially worried that I'd perhaps have to run to the store to get some, or that I'd have an incomplete desk on my hands. After all, a handyman can only put something together to the extent that the has all the materials needed to assemble. I would've completely understood if he told me I needed to get the proper bolts and have him come back to finish the assembly. Instead, Serge reassured me by saying, "Don't worry - this is my problem, not yours." He took all the stress off of troubleshooting, and after a few minutes of research, he figured out the issue and had the desk successfully assembled! Serge finished the entire project in just under two hours. After seeing all the small things he worked through in real-time, I'm so glad I went with him to help with the job. In particular, his ability to take initiative throughout the job and his reassuring, calm, and friendly demeanor stood out to me. He charged a fair price for the project and made sure all the little details were right, like checking what side I wanted the sit-stand controller on and handling all the cable management on the underside of the desk. As it was raining when he arrived, he even went as far as to take his shoes off and leave them outside so he wouldn't bring water or dirt into my apartment. This thoughtfulness was such a respectful and considerate touch. Also, my dog absolutely adored him. I'm a bit confused and disappointed to say the least. Sergei was prompt, polite, on time and promptly responded. He came to check and then started the next day to work on the job. He was a hard worker and did replace 3 hinges on 3 cabinet doors and reattached 2 front drawer panels. He attached a door plate to protect the door frame. These were perfect, no problem. He also changed the shower head, cord and faucet spout but the spout came off and can not be put back on. But then, he made a 'new' gate with multiple flawed wood, so it looked like an old gate that he just painted. He was asked to be sure to seal and putty all cracks to prevent termite and rain rot which was a hit and major misses. There were parts he puttied that looked sloppy and uneven, something an amateur might do, but mostly, he missed the majority of sealing the wood and all the damaged areas. He made a mess on our cement with putty and paint and got paint all along the brick fence, top to bottom. He added a horizontal board that was not only slightly crooked, but it did not butt against the other boards on both ends. He refused to finish the work, instead refunded $100 but not before insisting I message on yelp that 'he refunded me and that I had no complaints about him' first, before he would hand over the $100 from the total I paid. btw, I also paid upfront for all the supplies, wood, etc. (He refunded me $261.66 for the wood and paint for the gate) Needless to say, I had to look for another handyman to finish and redo what Sergei failed to do properly and professionally. I really don't understand why he failed to select unflawed wood instead of settling for damaged wood? You would think it would be easier, less work, less of a headache to deal with if he had only selected better lumber instead of settling for flawed, damaged lumber. I even brought this to his attention but he brushed it off saying he would not be using that part of the flawed wood. I even suggested treated wood but he insisted it was too thick. It was a waste of money to have had to pay for such flawed wood and ultimately ended up costing me more. I would recommend Sergei because he is honest, a hard worker and did make things right. read more
