This place was recommended to me by someone who's been there before and I was in the area, but this must be a hit or miss on service. I went in the evening on a Tuesday. The service was an epic fail, went for a birthday pedicure. I called ahead and asked if they took walk-ins and if they did art, yes, yes. OK, it was a walk-in so I won't complain that I waited 40 minutes before they even saw me and I fell asleep waiting. Then they proceeded as normal when ready, but when they got to their actual time to paint the nails the lady could not perform the art, (fast forward), after a couple of attempts and her starting over I asked her what art she could do, I was open to compromise, and she just painted a line. That was it! I told her and the manager that I would pay for the polish removal and the nail clipping but I'm not paying for the full service, I'll go elsewhere. This was for my birthday vacation, it was just a flower. A lady who was getting a manicure, her face was hilarious watching this. They're like "you're not gonna find another place this late in the evening", I'm like I don't live in the area but I'll go somewhere tomorrow (was that their end game?). It literally turned into an auction battering what I would pay. Then I stalemated at $30! I took a lollypop from their bowl and stode there eating it, till they folded. I'm so proud I didn't pay full price for a service not delivered. The manager was like "oh she spent a lot of time", so have I, been here 2 hours and I didn't get the service and I called ahead, so not my fault. Ugh. I went to Unique Nails (1271 Washington St, West Newton) for a gel manicure in April 2025. When I called ahead to confirm the price, I was told it would be $40, which matched the price displayed on their sign near the entrance. When I asked for a receipt, the nail technician refused and responded, "It's mine." Also, the technician just took off the old gel and put on a new one - nothing else was done (no nail extension). I hate to wrote a negative review... But, I got a terrible staph infection in multiple nails after having a dip manicure here :(. One trip to Urgent Care, another trip & copay to my PCP and I am on antiobiotics. Super painful! Both urgent care & PCP's office said they see this type of infection a lot andnit is can be dangerous. I've been here twice and both times I left completely disappointed and feeling ripped off. First of all, both times my manicure was sloppy and chipped within the first day...even the first freaking hour it was dry. They charge $35 for a Mani pedi- however you can go closer to Boston and get that for $30 for a manicure that'll at least last a few days. In addition, The lady did not remove any of the nail polish that she got on my skin during my manicure and I had to go home and remove it myself from each finger. I asked her to fix this and she said they were too busy. The first time I went, the lady got halfway through my manicure then made me go get cash out because she decided it wasn't enough to charge my credit card (after I asked if that was ok in the beginning). Very rude and short with their customers. The pedicure was good at least- but the overall experience I've had each time- is not enough to go back. Such a shame because their location is great for people in west newton! I recommend Brookline nail and spa- I've consistently gone to them for a year now and even after I moved from that area- I go back. This salon is located very close to my business and I frequent it often because it's convenient, they're accommodating, prices are reasonable for the area and they are very good at what they do. I have had most of the staff do my nails at one point or another and most recently had Amy their newest edition do my fill and pedi and it was awesome. I highly recommend owner Tina, Amy, Lilly the gentleman who works there and overall everyone. Parking is metered if on Washington st and they will feed your meter if need be. Great local salon. Called ahead to make sure there was an opening and walked in half an hour later. Someone was ready for me by the time I had chosen my color. I also got help matching a color to a picture I showed them. The lady didn't speak English, and didn't ask me how I wanted my nails shaped, but that was fine with me. She did a quick no frills job and the gel manicure came out pretty perfectly besides one tiny black dot on one finger. It was shiny, smooth, and durable (lasted about 3 weeks without any chipping and it maintained it's shine). It's probably not the place you go to get pampered and relax, as it's not the most aesthetically pleasing place and it's very quick service. I liked being in and out fast. read more

Do not go here unless you want NAIL FUNGUS. I am so saddened by this and I left the salon crying and shaking. I had them apply acrylics nearly 3 months ago (I had acrylics done when I was younger and had them for years and never had one problem take note they were done at a different salon) 2 weeks ago I complained that I saw black coloring under the acrylic and the nail tech was confident when he told me it was nothing serious and continued to refill the acrylics without checking underneath. I didn't listen to my gut and let me him do it. Big mistake. 2 weeks after I went for another fill all excited to apply Christmas colors. Once he removed the old color almost all my nails looked black under the acrylic. I demanded he take them all off after he tried to continue filling without checking. Once he removed them 7 of my 10 fingernails had a SEVERE BLACK/GREEN/YELLOW FUNGUS GROWING. I informed the tech how I was upset because I told him about this 2 weeks ago and he brushed it off. Meanwhile he has been using the tools on my fungus nails and using them on others like the nail filers and clippers etc. I went straight to my doctors and got a prescription for the nail fungus but according to the doctor this is going to be a long road of recovery. They also did a horrible job on the nails multiple times-they didn't fill down to the cuticle they left openings for water entry and they never applied enough glue so they kept falling off and charging me each time to place them. read more

Regretted it immediately, and ultimately asked them to just remove all the polish and let me leave. Was left with nails that still had bits of cotton stuck to them. They took me right away, were super speedy since I had to get back to work after, and were very nice! It's the nicest looking french gel manicure I've ever gotten. I'm surprised this place didn't get better reviews. This place is always busy when I go. I go to LyLy. I am quite particular about my nails and she gets it right every time and will make sure I am satisfy before I leave. I usually just get the traditional manicure... which literally lasts me 2 weeks before it starts to chip-- amazing, right?! I do take about 15 minutes to dry every time though, so it may be a contributing factor. Overall, I would recommend this place. Customer service was horrible. We had a reservation and I still waited 20 min for my service. They kept yelling at me to pick a color when I already did but they wanted me to pick from a more expensive polish. I kept refusing which is probably why I got ignored. Then after soaking my feet for 20 min they tried to get me to get up and get my Manicure done. I refused since my friend was getting her feet done and we came here together. It was supposed to be a girls day which is why we made an appt. I got a regular manicure and pedicure and it came out to $40. Pedicure was good but manicure has weird little bubbles all through the polish when it dried. I wouldn't go back here. I only came here because a friend usually goes here and we went together. I usually go go Paris Nails in Brighton. I highly recommend PN! I'll be going there instead. Plenty of workers, very nice shop. Always walk in with no problem. $12 for manicure and $25 for pedicure. I had a great experience at Unique nails with Evon, she is just wonderful and did a great job on my mani/ pedi. I have gone to a few different salons in Newton and this so far is the best. She does a great job on the nails and is wonderful to talk to and it is more affordable than others. Also, my meter had run out before she was finished so she ran out there and put in plenty of extra time so that I would not get a ticket. When this place applies nail polish, it doesn't come off. Period. I've gone to places that perform more luxurious pedicures, but I've never been to a salon that puts on polish that lasts as long. Polish on my toes can last up to a month (!) and manicure polish lasts at *least* a week, and I've had it last as long as two. I would give this place 5 stars if they were better at buffing and massaging in the pedicure department. I am always a walk in, and they've always been able to accommodate. read more

This place gives the worst manicures. They tried to use an old polish that was coming out clumpy on me. When I asked for a newer bottle they told me it was the nude color I chose. After trying 2 colors (all clearly old polish bottles), I told them I didn't care what color it was as long as it was good polish. Silly me. This is THE place to get your nails done in Newton. The ladies that work here are friendly and the pedicure chairs have massage remotes. They do a pretty respectable job, and get it done efficiently--not rushed, but also not stressing you out about your meter running out when you put plenty of time on it. Looks like they have the machines in the back to sterilize the instruments (always good-no one wants to lose a toe). I've been getting my nails done at Unique Nails for nearly 10 years now. They do a wonderful job with gel manicures in particular. I typically go with a French manicure and I have never been disappointed; they usually last 2-3 weeks and my nails grow out before the polish chips. Management/ownership has changed over the past few years and the interior of the salon has been nicely redone. It is clean, fairly priced, and with a very efficient and capable staff. I went in for a mani/pedi, and what a waste! The pedi was ok, they have a good selection of nail polish colors, but I was afraid that the technician was going to cut my skin. The mani was awful - she filed my nails super short, and was in such a hurry that she did cut me when she was cleaning the cuticle. She put disinfecting solution, but still, I bled and I am nervous about an infection. Then, when I got home the nail polish was all bubbled up, in all fingers! I removed it and re-polished on my own. This was awful. I gave her a $5 tip but I shouldn't have. She was kind of rude and kept picking up her cellphone while she was doing my nails. STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

I was more than disappointed with this place. I had been many times before and had a decent experience but the last time I went it was just awful. I went with a friend who was seen right away while I waited for an over an hour to be seen. More than two of the staff members were sitting at their desks on their cell phones not even paying attention to the fact that I had been waiting for over an hour and there were plenty of available seats. After being reminded multiple times by other clients noticing that I had been waiting for quite some time, they finally decided to take me and were quite rude about it. The manicure was sub par at best and left my nail beds BLEEDING. my friends manicure was hardly finished and looked like a pre schoolers work. I am certainly not impressed with this salon. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. The first time I was there, a woman had made an appointment, got there, and had to wait an hour. She got in a huge fight with one of the manicurists and eventually left. The second time, I had a Shellac manicure done. As I was leaving, the sides of the manicure started to come up and it was clear that she had done something wrong. They started to tell me it was the color, not that she had done something wrong. I didn't have time to have them redo it, since taking off the Shellac and putting it back on takes around 45 minutes. She told me it would take 15 minutes so I stayed, despite not having time at all, and it of course took 45 minutes. They did not apologize or offer to give a discount, which I think most businesses would have done. I was a half hour late for another appointment I had. I am sure other people have had positive experiences here, but I would never go back. read more
