Ive always been really happy with my nails at Tinailery! They always have the most unique, special colors, the salon is cute and updated, and everyone I've worked with has always been very kind. Technically I've always felt they've done a perfect job. My nails always last (I always get gel) and I never have the issue with the sides of the gel separating. The team uses a bunch of different cuticle files which really allow them to get the paint super close to your cuticle. I have come here for a manicure and a pedicure on two separate occasions. In both cases, the techs did an amazing job. The manicure took much longer than expected, like almost two hours for a regular manicure instead of the listed 40 minutes, but it came out beautifully and when a bit of it smudged on my way out, the nail tech fixed it carefully and for free. The pedicure was also of amazing quality but the chairs need to be more comfortable and I would recommend replacing them, though again, the quality and care of the services themselves are outstanding. Visited yesterday and while the decor in the salon is beautiful, the pedicure is below average at best. First, while they have opted for cozy chairs, bc they are not movable it makes it very hard for anyone who is tall to sit comfortably through the process. Next their color selection for "dazzle dry" is about 25 colors which isn't great, but manageable. While the cuticle cleaning and shaping of nails was fine, the massage for a spa pedicure was about 2-3 minutes on each leg which is ridiculous given it's a "spa pedicure" with extra long massage and cost nearly $100. Finally, the tech told me I could leave as my polish was dry and...it was not. I got home to messed up nails and was really frustrated by the whole experience. Overall, ambiance is lovely but past that I wouldn't come back. read more

I have been coming to this salon since last year and initially had good experience with this place. However, my more recent experience with the customer service has been very disappointing. The online platform is extremely confusing for making a reservation. The services are listed in weird ways and pricing is unclear when you need customization. I made a same day reservation online today for a gel manicure with removal of current work. One our before the service, the store called me and complained that I did the reservation wrong online and tell me to call next time or book through wechat. I told them i did try to communicate via wechat last time to request for a technician, no one responded. And i prefer to book online. The store did not explain to me how to better navigate their poorly designed web interface and make a reservation online to best represent the services i need. Instead I felt scolded by the person on the phone and felt bad vibes from them. There was no patience or attempt to help with the confusing situation. I encourage the store to update their online reservation platform to be more clear and user friendly or just get rid of it if it's not working well instead of blaming their customers for it. Second time I get my nails done here and they didn't disappoint! Since we recently moved to Boston I have been looking for a nice place to have my nails done and have had some disastrous experiences in other salons with nail polish pealing one week into my manicure, nails breaking and so on. At Tinailery the ladies are nice, they know their stuff and the whole experience is pleasant and pain-free (yes I've had painful manicures before where they file into your finger or the acetone burnt my skin!) Love this new nail spa in Boston! The exterior is so nice and cute. It's actually a Japanese nail spa which they do Japanese nail arts and they have organic nail polishes! When I first came in I immediately just said I wanted to do some gel nails but then I noticed the cute designs and nails arts they have. I still ended up getting the regular gel they have tho. When I sat they gave me a tea which was super nice. I've never been to a nail spa that serves you tea while getting a manicure. The girl who did my nail was pretty fast look less than an hour to finish my nails. After getting it done I paid $45 for the service. Kind of pricey but it's okay. I want to do some designs next time but the price is really high but I think it's reasonable for the effort they do. For now maybe I'll just grow my nails first for it to do justice on the design. But the lady that I gave the payment to explained to me the stuff they have and all the ways on how to book an appointment and stuff cause t takes a long time to do the design on the nails Anyways. Hands down the best place in Boston for Asian style nail art. I booked an appointment for medium difficulty nail art after stalking their Instagram feed for ages. I took a few candidate photos as a reference because I had no idea what the difficulty standards were. They have a bunch of nail art magazines so I ended up finding a really pretty set that matched the medium difficulty cap. Phoebe was super patient and thorough & such a great person to chat with! I was more than happy with the results, not to mention they've held up well for weeks without a single chip. Tinailery is definitely expensive compared to what you can get in Asia but for what they offer here, I think the prices are more than reasonable. possibly the worst experience i've ever had. Prior to my experience they asked me to come 20 minutes early so I did, I didn't start my appointment until an hour later because they were running late. The spa chairs were extremely uncomfortable and there wasn't enough space for the pedicure. The pedicure itself was very uneven and I now need to fix my nails myself. The manicure was even worse, the time they spent putting into the manicure doesn't yield the same results. I left her 25 cash since I felt like she deserved it and thank you for fixing me and working during these crazy times. Micro-aggressions against Black customer and possible shady payment transaction practices to potentially avoid credit card transaction fees and income taxes. $116 for an average gel manicure. My friend found this place and we were both very excited to have our nails done here. My friend had her nails done at the salon a few times before I was able to join her. The first time I had my nails done I loved the outcome (extenders, with gel french tip nail art - around $200 total). At check-out I was told the credit card machine was not working and would I mind paying by Venmo. That was fine with me. This was an overall good experience. Therefore, my friend called and booked three separate appointments for us and one more friend for three weeks later (putting down a $150 deposit). At the time of the appointments the nail session was fine. However, when it came time to pay they would not let us pay separately and asked my friend who booked the appointments (and also happens to be Black) to pay for all of us on her credit card that she used to book the appointments with. We do not have a clear understanding why this request was made but, we finally agreed (even though this was inconvenient for all of us). When my friend went to pay with her credit card they told her that yet again the credit card machine was not working and asked if she would please pay by Venmo (the total for 3 people was around $275). My friend was at this point flustered due to the difficulty we were experiencing trying to pay and vocalized this to the owner, Cammie, who was checking us out. However, my friend wanting to move the process along and leave agreed and paid for us all by Venmo. As we were in the process of tipping our nail techs for their services Cammie asked my friend to prove she had paid for the appointments and asked my friend to show her her Venmo transactions. We were both confused by the request however, complied and verified our payment. I want to note that the prior time when I had been asked to pay by Venmo for my $200 dollar appointment I was not asked to verify my payment or show my Venmo transaction history (I happen to be White). The overall interaction with Cammie left us both feeling uncomfortable, moreover we both felt my friend was experiencing a micro-aggressions around payment due to her race. I go on their website just to see that they were fully available and just refused to service me. I don't know if it's because it wasn't their work or because I'm black or maybe both. Cammie helped me pick a nail design and was so lovely. She did an amazing job on my nails, as you can see! Two things stood out to me: 1) the design is stunning, she's very talented, and 2) the quality of the manicure and polish is amazing (aka you don't sacrifice quality for a pretty design). This is my fourth visit to Tinailery and prior to today I had only great experiences. The job they do here is very detail focused & the gel lasts for 2 weeks almost intact, at least for me. However, today I got my color choices all mixed up and in the wrong order which left me sadly disappointed since the money/time investment didn't feel worth it today. I really wanted to love this place but couldn't get myself to do so. The "manicure" involved my cuticles/ nail beds being pushed and carved by some painful machine. My nails were neither soaked in water to soften the cuticles nor clipped with a cuticle nipper. I was kicked out the door after 10 minutes under a weak air dryer. Wasn't even given lotion or cuticle oil. The end result was my fingers still surrounded with excess, dry skin, my nail beds ruined by that awful machine, and nail polish I had to remove myself because they weren't given enough time to dry. They seem to do well with nail art but if you're looking for a simple manicure, this place ain't it. My suggestions: Bellacquer in Brookline and MiniLuxe Prudential. read more

They always do a great job on my nails and the hard gel lasts a long time so it's worth the price. One thing Tinailery does need to figure out is gift cards. I feel like I'm always either reviewing nail salons or restaurants on Yelp, but that goes to show how dedicated I am to my nails/nail care! I had been on the lookout for a Japanese nail art salon in the Boston for awhile, and came upon Tinailery. I kept the place in mind, but it's a bit far from me and I was nervous the pricing would be too much. Over the summer I decided I wanted to treat myself and brought in a picture/inspo I found on Instagram. Li Wenjie worked on my nails and he did such a good job. He really took the time to focus on making sure my nails were in good condition before applying the color. I asked for a more difficult style, as you can see in pictures, but he really took the time to make sure it came out well and used different brushes throughout. He even offered me different suggestions like using a matte coat for the nails with designs so they would last longer and I loved it. You do have to put down a deposit of $30 which goes towards your final amount, and this was easily done on venmo. My total was $55 before tip, and though it's a little pricier than a regular gel manicure it was 100% worth it seeing how much they took the time and patience to work with me. Well. I won't be back. Service: - Complete lack of respect from the nail techs. Constantly gossipping about the clients. Sayuri did a fairly mediocre job on my nails, and then proceeded to complain loudly and insultingly about me for 20 minutes to Phoebe (the owner), who did nothing but laugh in response. Girl, I can hear you. At least wait until I'm out the door. But at that point my friend and I were hungry and exhausted and ready to get out of there. Which leads me to... - Even in the middle of doing our nails, the techs are constantly getting up and leaving with no warning to answer phone calls, see to other clients... Um. If I'm paying for your time, can I at least get full service instead of twiddling my half-finished nails here? No wonder it took us each over 2.5 hours - half the time the techs weren't even working on our nails. - Sayuri couldn't communicate to us in English. Every conversation we had was 3-way. And yes, my friend doesn't speak Mandarin, so initially we tried to make it work 3-way, but eventually we just gave up. As for me, after I heard her b*tching about me so many times, I refused to stoop to her level. Absolutely unacceptable. - My friend asked for silver decorations and got gold. Whenever we tried to ask for any kind of change, they would exhibit such a cold and reluctant attitude that in the end we just stopped asking. So much for the customer is always right. - No tea! Ok, I won't ding for this, but it was certainly disappointedly lacking on a rainy, cold day for us. Adding insult to injury. Pricing: - Wow, is that pricing model out of this world. The base is already exorbitant, which I initially attributed to the Boston area's lack of competition in this space (I've been to plenty of wonderful studios in NY that charge less than half.) I was willing to pay it for a job well done, not this terrible attitude and service. - Add on random price increases with no advertised price list (I literally saw a nail tech go over to show Phoebe a picture of a customer's nails, at which point she pulled magic numbers out of nowhere for the additional pricing on each nail), and point-of-sale with only the total shown with pre-calculated tips. Complete. Highway. Robbery. Nope, nope, and nope. read more

I've now been here about 4 times, usually for gel nails, and once for a pedicure. The manicures just don't last. Tinailery does offer a 7 day guarantee (they'll do fixes for free), which I took advantage of when 2 nails chipped within 4 days last time. When one of the main women there fixed my nails, she instructed the girl who had originally done my nails the first time around how to do them properly - a little annoying. If I had had time, I would have asked her to redo the whole manicure, because there were clear issues with how the first girl had done my nails. At this point (6 days after the manicure), none of the other nails had chipped but were already starting to separate at the edges or slightly peel back. Needless to say, now 15 days after the initial manicure and 9 days after the fix, the two nails that were fixed are perfect, and the rest of the nails are absolutely chipped and trashed. They have been peeling and separating since about a week + a day or two after the manicure, which given that I don't do anything manually with my hands (ever, really, not even with cleaning products or dish soap), they really shouldn't be. They weren't finished properly, the top edges weren't painted... and this has happened each time. The salon location is quick and easy (and right next to my job), so I have given it a few tries, but that time was likely my last. It's way too overpriced to only last 9-10 days. Before I moved from the Brookline area, I was going to Aer Nailbar, which literally lasted 3, sometimes 4 weeks for a gel polish. I think it's really just that the employees of Tinailery range in skill level - I often see women with longer nails getting beautiful nail art there with ombre and sequins and all these glitzy additions (done by the woman who appears to be the owner, who fixed my two nails), and I'm sure the nail art is lasting longer than 10 days. But because I am just getting a simple gel manicure, I get stuck with someone newer, and they are done poorly. TL;DR: It's hit or miss here, and seems to generally be miss if you are getting something "easy" done. Would not recommend now after 4 manicures. read more
