0 stars!!! Worst nail experience I've ever had. All nail ladies were rude, I made an appt with my friend, we arrived on time and we asked to sit together. They weren't accommodating. It wasn't busy either, there were open seats. My friend was seen first, then I was shown to a seat for a gel manicure. The lady didn't talk to me at all, she randomly got up to turn on the water for an older gentleman. She swished her hand around his feet and his water bowl to feel the temp then immediately came back to me and touched my hand to finish a finger. At the end of my manicure she got up, didn't say a word and went back to the same gentleman. I didn't know if she was done or not, my friend had to get her attention and ask if my service was complete, she turned and said all done still sitting with the gentleman rubbing his feet. I then said "oh usually I get some lotion and a hand massage, I didn't know it's over". (All other places put a small bit of lotion and rub my hands for at least 2-3min and verbally say thank you or all done. The nail lady rudely proceeds to squirt lotion in my hand for me to rub myself and it drips on my flip flop. She says "there's your lotion" in a sarcastic tone. Very rude and body language was just off. Worst experience at a nail salon, won't be returning or recommending to anyone. Please do better, yes we weren't regulars but it's not right to treat newcomers so poorly. read more

Always so pleasant and accommodating--Very clean and personable staff---Great service

I had a friend visiting from out of state and we wanted a nice little outing getting our nails done. Unfortunately, we had an awful experience at Lony Salon. Neither of our nail technicians said hello or introduced themselves. They never once smiled or uttered a word through the whole appt. At one point, my friend's tech stood up in the middle of doing her manicure, walked to the pedicure area, put her hand in the foot tub of a customer who was soaking his feet, and swirled it around. Then she went back and continued my friend's manicure manicure without washing her hands. We found this pretty disgusting. Less importantly, she didn't say a word, like "I will be back" or "Excuse me" when she left. About 5 minutes later, the tech got up again, walked away from my friend, and started doing the pedicure for the other customer. My friend just sat at the manicure table, unsure if her appointment was done. I asked my tech, who said something to the other tech, who turned out to be the owner of the shop! The owner said loudly, "Yes, you're done!" My friend asked if there would be lotion or anything more and the owner stood up abruptly, grabbed a bottle of lotion and said, "You want lotion?" She squirted some on one hand and walked away. The manicure was very poor quality. Meanwhile, my pedicure was OK, other than the scowl on the tech's face and her seeming put out when I asked if she could help me adjust the back of my chair. We are quiet, polite, respectful people. We also realize getting our nails done isn't the most important thing in the world. However, even with reasonable expectations, we both left feeling frustrated and confused. I do NOT recommend this salon. If you look at the reveiws over the past 5 years, you'll see good ones, but also enough bad ones to make you question this place. read more

This salon has been a staple in West Newton for over 25 years. When I was younger my mom use to bring us in with her occasionally and my great aunt has been coming to David and Chau for 22 years. They always have top tier service and it's such a friendly atmosphere, They are truly a staple in the community and have such fair pricing. I never write reviews but just had to for this salon. I had the worst pedicure of my life. She literally did not acknowledge me once. Not one smile and she didn't even look at me. That isn't the worst part. She rushed through my pedicure. Left cuticles on all my nails. Didn't put lotion on my feet or massage them at all. She did my calves for maybe 30 seconds each leg. I had to ask for lotion on my actual feet. She look annoyed and then put the tiniest amount of lotion just on the bottom of my feet - very dismissive and half assed. The color bubbled when I got home and my cuticles were glaring at me. It has been exactly one week since I got it and I needed a whole new pedicure like five days ago. (So basically the next day) Shameful waste of money. Note. I don't know the technicians name but I do not believe it was the owner. read more

My manicurist is on vacation for two months, and this annual vacation causes a lot of stress each year as I frantically search for a few manicures. Nothing crazy, they are my natural nails and I don't even want color but I need them to be even, the correct shape (oval) and to have my cuticles taken care of. You know, basic manicure stuff! I called and they were able to get me in within the hour (a weekday morning), and while they are much too short (although I could now go 4-5 weeks before needing another) and a little bit of the wrong shape, my cuticles were cleaned up and look so much better. $19 for a basic manicure and I was in-and-out quickly. read more

Lonys Nail salon is the absolute best! David, Tony and Chau are so talented! Lony squeezed me in for a pedicure while I waited for my 91 year old mother to get a pedicure (not easy with her feet) with Chau and gel manicure with David. Chau also helped my mom with facial waxing. They were so kind and caring to my mom who has been going there for over 15 years! I am going back to get my nails done from now on! I really liked it here. My first time and I got dip nails which chau did expertly. It's been almost 3 weeks and not a chip in sight. She let me take time with the color choice and I finally picked a color I have been happy with. It's a blue gray that a woman had on her nails and I liked it. The salon is owned by chau and her husband and you can tell they have a special bond with one another as they sit next to each other doing their clients nails. Very lovely atmosphere, clean, and you don't have to go under lights to dry your nails which you have to do with gels. Chau did The nails in very good time and I look forward to going back again for other services. They almost have too many colors because it's hard to make up your mind. read more

Went one time before last week and had a decent experience although the nail artist did make me bleed a bit. This past time I was very dissatisfied because I had called ahead for a simple gel manicure last week, and I picked this particular place because online it says 3 weeks lasting gel manicure. I got my nails done Thursday and it took just over 1 hour for a gel manicure on short nails, and the gel extended past my nail and up onto my actual skin. Unfortunately, because the gel wasn't just on my nail, my nails chipped by Saturday. Not even 4 days later all my nails were peeling up. Feeling like I wasn't my money on this experience. read more

About six years ago I came here because someone I worked with at the time always had the cutest, detailed nail art on her manicured nails. She pointed me to Lony's where I was so pleased at their close attention to detail when drawing designs such as flowers, snowmen, Christmas trees, etc. ***Six years later*** After not being too pleased with nail art done in other cities, I'm back. I got a winter-themed pedi which cost $42 (red and white stripped w/snowmen on both big toes). I moved to Newton recently and found this place by googling the closest nail salon to my house. I called to make sure they'd be able to fit me in for a mani/pedi and made an appointment for 30 minutes later. I was trying to match a color on a dress and found the perfect color (with help from the woman who was about to paint my nails). She was very meticulous which resulted in a fantastic pedicure. Afterwards, we went over to her table and I decided I wanted to do a shellac manicure. We had a little misunderstanding and she thought that I already had one on so she started taking off my nail polish as if it was the shellac kind. She called one of the other ladies over to translate and we cleared it up, no harm done. She said "Sorry. I don't speak English", I said "it's okay!!", we both laughed and moved on. She got me prepped (trimming, filing, cuticle stuff) and then I went to a man at a different table to get them painted. He double checked them and then did an awesome French manicure. I had never had the shellac before and I'd definitely recommend it. They don't chip and they are dry after a couple seconds under the light (you can get your keys/wallet/phone/seatbelt/whatever as soon as they are done painting them). My nails came out great since they pay such close attention to detail but that also meant that it took a long time. I was in there from 5:30-8:15-ish. I noticed some other people getting in and out faster so maybe I just needed a little extra work. Since I was there for so long I got to see a lot of people come in. 90% of them seemed like they were long time regulars which is a good sign because it means the standard of service is consistent and keeps people coming back. The staff was very friendly and frequently cleaned and disinfected the equipment. It was more expensive than I'm used to but I felt like I got my money's worth and I usually don't get shellac. I forgot to bring cash but I could pay with my card and they let me tip on it as well. I'll definitely be back. read more

Please note, this review should have been dated back to May. At first, I was excited and absolutely loved the work done on my nails. I had gotten a a french mani and pedi. And the thing was that I typically have long finger nails to begin with, and I had only had several nails that were not the same size due to chipping/breaking. So, when I left I had half acrylic and half natural nails, since there was no reason for me to have acrylics in the first place due to my very healthy nails. I just needed them done nicely for the vacation I was going on. However, she did a spectacular job on both my nails and feet. Now, here's the kicker. I thought at first that I had gotten some cleaners (maybe bleach) under my nails after having cleaned my house and it started to bubble up under the polish, leading it kind of chip the polish. This happened after 2 days! Normally you're nail job should last you 2 weeks, if not more! But then I realized that this was also happening to my toe nails as well towards the end of the week, leading me to realize that either they have really crappy product, it was no longer good (does nail polish expire?), or it was diluted polish. I was originally going to recommend this place to one of my co-workers who was getting her nails done for a wedding, but advised her to go to the nail salon I usually go to instead. My pedicure on day 4 still looks great even after the wear and tear of summer in flip flops. My manicure hasn't even chipped yet!!! I'm impressed. It's definitely a bit pricey, but better than some of the below average salons in Boston. Plus, the people who work there are extremely nice. Lony's salon is great for everything - nails, wax, facials, and even makeup. I've been going here for years and am always happy with my nails when they do them. They have a great selection of colors and have great options for gels and the new powder application. Lony is also great with any skin needs you have. She always customizes my facial for me depending on what my skin needs at the time. I always leave with skin that feels amazing! read more

A good everyday salon -- for the most part clean and inexpensive (mani is $12, pedi was $30). The staff are nice and the manicurist I had was great with the cuticle trim, very thorough and not a single nick. On the downside, I think they could do more to clean the place up -- maybe I'm just spoiled by Bella Sante, but I thought the salon looked a little run-down (nothing a little paint and a bottle of windex wouldn't fix). But everyone seemed very careful about hygiene. Regarding another reviewer's comments, I watched two of the salon staff dilute the nail polish, so they're definitely cutting a few corners on polish, but my manicure came out very nice and lasted well, and the two friends I went with were happy with their pedicures. If you have the $$, go to Bella Sante instead, but for a less expensive salon, Lony's is pretty solid. read more

I'm not the type to write bad reviews but my experience here was so terrible that it needs to be heard. I went in for a gel manicure and a pedicure the day before my vacation. 2 1/2 hours later and $70 out I left with the worst gel manicure of my life, not to mention one of the longest and most expensive. The night I got home they all started lifting from the front. I ignored it and hoped they would settle down. 1 day into my vacation when washing my hair 2 of my nails completely peeled off into my hair. By the 3rd day every single nail had completely peeled off whole leaving me with absolutely no nail polish for the rest of my vacation. I have been getting gel manicures for 10 years and this has literally never happened to me before. This is something that shouldn't even happen 2 weeks after a proper gel manicure. I can not stress enough to stay away from this place. It was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent and I was embarrassed to have no nail polish on my hands and an average at best pedicure while on a beach vacation. read more

Very nice salon - clean and bright. I have been there a couple of times and very happy with service both times. Had a pedicure and fill - service was good - what I really liked it was fast - but still quality work. I was in an out in just over an hour. I have been getting my nails done for many years - and one of my pet peeves is how long it takes. Anna proved you can do a good job quickly with wonderful results. This review is long over due. It is so unfortunate that the management, not the employees, have turned me off and away from this salon. After my last visit I just had to force myself to go elsewhere. Long story short, I made an appointment over the phone, showed up when I was told, waited for 45 minutes, questioned why I wasn't being seen at my appointment time, and was then told scolded by the owner in front of everyone that I got the time wrong. I got the time wrong? Really? Blame the customer? I was so upset about how abrasive and accusatory the owner was that I walked out and have never been back since. My technician Jenny was so wonderful and did such a fabulous job the handful of times I visited before the final incident. Such a shame. read more

The last time I went in I waited over an hour after my appointment because David had taken a walk in, and it took over 2 1/2 hours for a manicure and a pedicure! RIDICULOUS! I love this place. I orginally started going to the one that used to be in Watertown due to the close proximity to my apartment. Unfortunatley, the whole shopping complex was burnt down due to an electrical fire. I was happy to find out that Lony's brother owns the Newton location and all of the girls were transferred over. I've been going to Anna at Lony's Nail Salon since 2007. I always get a gel manicure and a spa pedicure which I consistently get compliments on. I've definitely stretched a pedicure 4 weeks and it still looked good. Because my fingernails grow so quickly, I can usually only stretch my manicure 2 - 2.5 weeks before the new growth starts to look tacky. They're really good about hygiene and the owner (Lony) tries really hard to make the place cute and comfortable. It's the sort of place where all the girls will remember your name once you've been a couple times. I'm notorious for making appointments and then needing to cancel or rebook but it's never a problem. Even when I call last minute and need an appointment that same day, they're usually able to fit me in. I hate waiting for services and I've never had to wait more than 5-10 mins for Anna because Lony is good at being open and realistic about availability. read more

Tried this place as a recommendation. I don't think I have ever reviewed a place but I am so bummed out by my experience I want to share with others. I went in for. Gel manicure- it was an indulgence I was looking forward to. The woman who worked with me (I think? Anna? ) but was never introduced so have no clue. I was easy- requested no cuticle cutting. She filed my nails, painted and then literally wiped cream on each hand for 10 seconds and was done. NO massage! I've never had NO hand massage- a short one yes...but not NONE for $30 bucks! Then she waited as a got cash to pay. I gave $40 and she intentionally gave me two 5's so I was stuck either tipping $5 or none. To my own detriment I left the $5 to avoid awkwardness. Now I wish I left $0! It was even worth $30. Not a good way to do business. Totally disappointed! read more

I go to school in the West Newton area and I used to travel to the Natick Mall to get my nails done. I chose to get acrylics, and had been going back for the periodic "filling" needed to maintain them. However, after a while I had noticed that they were chipping very easy and there was some sort of blue fungus growing underneath my thumb. WELL.. that was it for me! I decided to look for another nail salon closer to school. I looked all along watertown street, as there are several options. I was just looking for a quick fix at the time. I stopped by Lony's and David, one of the owners, was very sincere, but he was booked that day and didn't have the time to fix my nail. I went down the street further to "Alpha Nails" where the lady there agreed to fix my thumb. Well, to make a long story short, I was so impressed with the kindness and sincerity of the people at Lony's I went back and have been going there every week since late September 2007. It doesn't matter how busy they are or whether or not you have an appointment, they always make room for you! I would recommend this place to anyone! I even brought my mom and she absolutely loves it! I'm not sure if the Roni E. just went on a "bad" day or had a different kind of reaction to their product, but I have had nothing but the best results! read more

I've been getting my nails done here for a long time after family in the neighborhood suggested it. You always know what to expect after each mani/pedi, they usually do a great job! They are good about fixing your nails if you end up chipping them, etc. The salon is family owned and they remember you each time you go back, very relaxing environment. The only thing I wish they would change is the amount of time massaging your hands and feet during mani/pedi. They recently changed their pricing so only if you pay more do you get your hands and feet massaged. Overall great environment! read more

awful awful awful awful!!! please do not go there!!! I went yesterday night for acrylics, which I have never had before. My nails were long and really nice because I get manicures all the time elsewhere. I didn't think I would need tips, just gels or pink and white, whatever they thought was best. Well the girl talked me into putting white tips on, she said it would look nice and be a permanent french manicure. She then cut all my nails off, really really short. She didn't file them, didn't smooth them at all, she didn't do my cuticles, nothing! She then glued on the white tips. I said I wanted them pretty short and she kept arguing with me about how long to keep them. She would not make them as short as I wanted. Then she used the powder acrylic to paint over the nail. She did an awful job. It was all over my fingers, still is, it's not even, it looks like I have a weeks worth of growth behind one of my pinky nails already!!! She cut me with the file on top of everything else. My cousin was with me and she got a mani/pedi. It looked awful too. Really sloppy! They painted over her cuticles, only painted half the nail, the sides were not done at all really. read more
