I love this place. I've been going here for about 15 years. They have the best and most unique inventory in the Bay Area. Their turn around for ordering frames and putting in the lenses is quicker than other places I've delt with. I mainly come here for the inventory though. I have two pairs of caviar frames from here and I have yet to see someone else wearing the same frames as me. And the first pair I bought I've had for 15 years and they still look fabulous. The second pair is newer. I saw them online when google-ing caviar cat eye frames and unique eye ware ordered them for me since they didn't have those particular frames in stock and they came super quick. I have been wearing glasses for 50 years and I have had so many eye glasses I've lost count. Including prescription sunglasses, I am sure I have had over 100 pairs. I have been going to Unique Eyewear for about 7 years now and they have always taken outstanding care of me. Eva is the best. One time when I needed eye surgery and subsequently a new pair of glasses, she made new lenses for me at no cost. I had a pair of vintage sunglasses that finally broke off at the right arm. As luck would have it, I keep pieces of old, broken sunglasses of the same type and one had the right arm intact. I first took them to a watch repair person, who could not help me. I then took them to Unique Eyewear. They also did not have the right tool to remove and put back on the arm that was needed. Instead of saying, "Sorry, can't help you", the person helping me took it upon herself to call another place she thought could do the job. They were fairly close by. Not only did she confirm they could do the work, she set up an appointment to go see them right away. I have a large wide head/face (57mm is recommended lens width for me) so shopping for eyeglasses that fit my face and look good has been a life long ordeal. I came to this store based on reviews and their website which lists the brands they offer. Im glad i made the drive from Hayward because the selection and service were excellent! The proprietor of the shop gave me several suggestions that all looked good and most importantly fit. This was a first for me. She told me she makes a point to order several different sizes to accommodate people of different head sizes and shapes. I would highly recommend to anyone with larger head size. read more

I am so happy this store exists. My 7 month old baby needs glasses and I was having a hard time dealing with that but an even worse time finding someone that knows how to fit infants. We paid out of pocket for frames because Kaiser covered frames and lenses but only offered one style of frames they didn't know how to fit. I left Kaiser very frustrated, stopped by another retailer that was not experienced with babies, and started crying when I walked in and realized they had so many frames her size to pick from and someone competent to help me. The selection at Unique Eyewear is FANTASTIC, and the staffers are helpful when assisting you with finding the right frames/ordering those of interest. My only issue was that they were slightly unorganized - after discussing options with one staffer, it didn't seem like it was the easiest to understand the notes or find my items when another staffer was on duty. There were minor inconveniences along the way (ie when installing my lenses there was a hole, so I had to wait a couple more days before the pickup), but on the whole I'm very satisfied with the look and quality of my glasses! read more

My husband and I just found out that our 2 year old daughter needs glasses from an optometrist in Santa Cruz. Neither one of us have ever had eye problems and have no idea how to deal with vision problems, what the lingo is, what the numbers or mean or anything. The optometrist in SC just seemed interested in getting us to buy some glasses rather than helping explain all of the things that we were stepping into. I recently had to purchase some computer glasses which also are progressives and have reading glasses at the bottom. I was really concerned these things were going to make me sick, because the last time I tried it at another optometrist, I couldn't wear the glasses and never went back. Susie just made my weekend! I was supposed to reading poetry on open-mic at the Pruneyard Barnes & Noble but I had lost a screw from my glasses so I was forced to wearing my "spare pair". Uugh... As soon as I approached the other readers, one of them looked at me and asked if my hair was different. I immediately ran out of the bookstore and straight to Unique Eyewear! She said I could wait until the other employee returned from lunch but after waiting for 15 minutes there was still no one willing to help me so I left. I have been getting my glasses at Cohen's for quite some time. They are very nice and you can get a good exam for $50. But, the glasses aren't cheap. My last pair cost around $800. So I read the reviews of Unique Eyewear and was a little bit skeptical, they looked too good to be true. But when I went there, wow! Great, personal service. Great selection of frames. And when I asked how much, I literally braced myself for the worst until she said, $160! She saw the nose pads in my old glasses were broken and said, "you're not leaving until we fix those!" I cannot be happier with the services provided by Susie and Eva. My six-year-old daughter lost her glasses at school, so I called in to order an exact same pair. They told me it might take 2-3 days. Impressively, it was ready the same day! They rushed the order and called me right away. Then, as it turned out, my daughter's classmate found and returned her old pair. Eva generously offered to cancel the order when she heard about this. This level of customer services will keep me coming back for years to come. They have a cute store front. Young children will love to play with the toys and get comfortable at the store if it is their first visit. Horrible experiences with this place, please don't waste your time and money. We had nothing but problems with this place and they refuse to resolve the issues and are nothing but rude to us and our insurance now. The employee we first dealt with recommended us multiple pairs of glasses for our daughter that were to big for her, being our first time getting her glasses we didn't know about sizing so we ordered the pair she liked. we went in to pick them up and asked about adjusting them and the one lady said you can't adjust these. then we went in to have a lens checked and a different lady adjusted them without asking me if it was ok to adjust my daughters and said the other lady didn't know about adjusting these glasses and didn't want to tell her last time we were there (well hello you should say something so we don't leave with glasses not properly fitting, sorry if there is some issue between to two of you but for your customers you need to figure it out). then after she adjusted them without permission the glasses started sliding down non stop all day long. the owner then met with us when we went back in because of the previous issues and said its because the glasses are too big for her. (so why did her employee show them to us.) i showed her a picture of another pair we liked, she said their too big as well. so the owner recommended we reorder a smaller size they didnt have anything similar so we just got a pink pair out of a catalog. they came in and we were still not happy, they look horrible. now we have a pair of glasses we spent almost $400 on just sitting in a case and i'm extremely upset that we don't have a nice pair of glasses for my daughter. the employees obviously don't know what they are doing. I wish the issues were resolved for my daughters sake, instead of them turning rude and not willing to do anything. We went somewhere else and got new glasses for our daughter, she was so much more excited about her glasses and they look a lot better on her then the ones from here! read more
