I had a very disappointing experience with Unique Eyewear. On February 7, I provided my prescription and was told my glasses would be ready in about 3 weeks. However, things quickly became frustrating due to constant delays and inconsistent information. On February 28, I called for an update and was told I would hear back on March 2. On March 2, they called and said the glasses would be ready by the end of that week. On March 7, I called again and was then told it would take 3-4 weeks. When I pointed out it had already been 4 weeks, they changed it again to 4-5 weeks. On March 10, they called and promised the glasses would definitely be ready by the end of that week. On March 13, they informed me that their lab had lost the frame and they needed to reorder it and resend it to the lab. They also said it was the lab's fault, not theirs. However, the lab is their partner--not something I chose--so I don't think it's appropriate to shift the responsibility to someone else. On March 16, they called again and assured me the glasses would be ready by Thursday or Friday that week. Now, more than 7 weeks have passed, and I still have not received any call to pick up my glasses. This experience has been extremely frustrating. The repeated delays, broken promises, and lack of accountability are unacceptable. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for reliable service. read more

The styles of glasses they offer are truly unique. They don't take insurance but if you calculate how much glasses cost at other places with the insurance coverage, the glasses and lenses here end up costing exactly the same. I have very high prescription with progressives and my glasses were made perfectly the first time. Wonderful. read more

My eyeglasses that I had bought at Kaiser broke (lost my nose pad). I randomly stopped by since I only knew of this eye glasses place near by me. I walked right in and was greeted. I then asked the gentleman if they could fix my glasses. He took and put on two new nose pads on my glasses and cleaned it. I was expecting to pay for the service and he said no charge. I was so thrilled and happy. What awesome service. Hopefully when I do need a pair of glasses I will come back to look. read more

Please disregard the non- literate review below that rudely mentions the perceived age of an employee! Honestly, my wife and I are very picky consumers and we have both been wearing glasses for many years and have tried boutique shops, Kaiser, Costco, Lenscrafters and Target for glasses in the past. We were politely greeted both times we entered (by different staff) and were astonished by the wide selection and professional service. I have not seen such a large, reasonably priced selection of stylish glasses since I went to Barcelona many years ago. With the assistance of the staff, I selected a fun pair of red frames with leopard sides ($110 for the frame) that have received accolades since the moment I put them on. My wife loves hers too and we were told the lenses come with a 2 year warranty. So, in essence, if you want old school, personal service with a wide, reasonably priced selection, run do not walk over to Unique Eyewear. Think about it, as an independent and locally woman owned business, they must be doing something right to survive the big box competition. Hands down this will be our new eyewear spot - and might I say I spent hundreds of dollars less on the lenses than I had decades ago in SF. read more

We have come to this place for the last 5 years now to get special prescription glasses for kids. They have some truly unique and sturdy styles that are appropriate for kids and their playful nature. The colors are very appealing and some come in glow colors in the night too. The frames and lenses seem to be high quality as always. Things to improve are their inconsistency in service especially on weekends, long wait times to get the finished glasses back and of course, they are much more expensive than the usual stores. Wow, is all I can say. So, I wear glasses like other women wear jewelry. I like to match my glasses to my clothing, and I traditionally buy 3-4 new pair per year. I have been disappointed with the same old styles that are out now -- ones that do do not match my personal style, which is a little more "fun" and "classic" than the Warby Parker look. I stumbled onto Unique Eyewear when I was at the Pruneyard for something else. And boy am I happy I did. Traditionally, I have had an awful time getting the lenses for my prescription made well. I have never, not once, had a pair of glasses made that I could see well out of the first time. Until now. Not only are the lenses perfect, the styles are different -- ranging from more casual to bling! But the SERVICE -- OMG, the service. I let Eva know that I would be coming in on a Saturday, and life got in the way so I didn't make it. I phoned on Monday to see if she would be in, and we worked out a time that was dependent on my busy schedule. When it turned out she couldn't make it, she actually phoned me to let me know. I mean, who does that? This is retail. Retail is impersonal and no longer about the customer. I was blown away at the courtesy. Finally, I have frames I still like that I want to have lenses made for. Unlike any of the places I frequented before, Unique Eyewear will make the lenses for me even though I purchased the frames somewhere else. We found out our 3 year old needed glasses and were referred here by our pediatrician. Glad we went: they quickly greeted us and showed us several options that would work for our little guy and what the features and drawbacks are of each. This store caters to kids, so they have a pretty large selection of kids frames which is rare. They also have kids toys, so your kiddos can stay busy while you are working on the order. When we ordered, they worked with us to make sure it would be easy for us to submit the claim to insurance as they are out of network (they also offer a discount to make up for the out of network cost). Wow the ladies working at Unique Eyewear are really good with children! During this trying time with Covid it's very difficult for moms to take their children out to take care of necessities. Well it is for me anyway . Before Covid my kids were kinda trained and we had a system that worked. But they haven't been out of the house so we lost our routine. At the door the ladies gave us hand sanitizer first. Masks required. Then she asked my children if it was ok she took their temperature on the forehead. She promised it wouldn't hurt. They laughed. They loved that she asked them. It put them at ease immediately. Then after we went inside they allowed my children to try on as many glasses as they wanted until we found the perfect pair. Afterwards every pair of glasses that my children touched they set them aside to sanitize them. Wow I was impressed at how clean and meticulous they are. I couldn't believe the huge selection of children's glasses! Bottom line: Super patient and amazing with kids! As a side note if you don't have insurance or have VSP insurance they give a 20% discount. That really helped me especially in this time. I came in for a minor repair on my sunglasses and a nose pad replacement on my eyeglasses. Suzy answered my call on the phone and said she could take care of it and encouraged me to walk in. When I got there, she was warm, friendly, and provided prompt service. She fixed my sunglasses and when she mentioned that they didn't have the exact nose pad for my eyeglasses, she even offered to contact me when they got a shipment of them and do the repair when they arrived. This business (and my ophthalmologist's office) no longer accept VSP due to reimbursement issues, so I went elsewhere this year, to a shop that accepts VSP. I may have chosen the wrong shape of lens, or perhaps the prescription was faulty, or both, because no matter how many adjustments, the separation between regular and reading just never worked. With my last pair, I didn't have problems reading the screen on my laptop, looking directly ahead, but with this pair, at the usual distance about 20", I have to look up or down: the separation line is just kludgy and gives me neck strain. I don't care if Unique Eyewear doesn't accept VSP: I'm going there next prescription for my lenses. They've always been spot on and patient. I think they do a better job at getting my lenses aligned correctly. I'm going to bring this pair and the last one, about which I've written--the one with the temple pieces each of which had to be replaced twice--for comparison, and my laptop when the lenses arrive. That way, placement of the dividing line will be indicated correctly, and I'll be able to test how they work with the laptop. read more

We called to find out if they had pediatric frames and were told their selection was the biggest in the south bay. I can't say I've verified that fact, but they had a great selection of pediatric frames, and our daughter picked out a cute pair. Three days later she fell down (on top of her glasses) and bent the frame and scratched one of the lenses. The first question each of the clerks asked me was "Is your daughter okay?" Then they immediately took care of the problem with no hassle. The store has a great selection, it's convenient, there are lots of toys for children to play with, and the clerks are very customer-oriented and knowledgeable. read more

I tried on my new glasses (which are pretty damn sharp, if I do say so myself) and noted that they fit differently from my old ones. Duh. Anyway, I figured I'd just get used to them. Five stars for the huge selection of young children frames. This store has the most frames for children that I've ever seen. What I like about the selection is that there are frames for infants and toddlers whereas a lot of optical shops only carry frames for school age children. Infants and toddlers need frames suitable to them with features such as plastic frames, nose bridge piece, and/or cable temples. We were able to choose frames suitable to my daughter's age. The frames seem to be all brand-name, good quality. The turnaround time is fairly fast - a week or less to receive the glasses. For children, polycarbonate lenses are used. There are two salesladies there, Susie and Eva, who are quite knowledgeable. The other day when I was in the shop, Susie told / showed me about sports glasses for my daughter when she gets older. I appreciate being made aware of types of glasses that will help my daughter as she gets older. There is a small area of toys to keep the kids busy. My daughter never wants to leave when we're there. I only wish that this store was closer to our home to make it easier for adjustments to the glasses. I like how the store is open on weekends also as most optometrists who sell glasses are only open M-F. Definitely worth checking out if your young child needs glasses. read more

Very impressed with the level of service. I'd been to Unique Eyewear several years ago when I was shopping for new pair of RX frames. After a few minutes of browsing, the salesperson took a look at the frame I was wearing and helped tightened up the screws which were loose. Didn't buy any in the end. This trip, GF's sunglasses had a screw missing and lens was flopping around so I thought just try them again and see if they can fix it. After about 5 minutes, she was done and we were prepared to pay her for it and she said it's free. Free? What's that? While their prices of their frames/sunglasses are high (i.e. MSRP), I'll have to stop by next time I consider a new pair of glasses based on this experience. read more

Not the cheapest place for glasses, but then again what place is? Both Susie and Eva are very helpful when assisting you in purchasing new glasses and they will present you with every option available to them. On more than one occasion I had to bring my glasses back because of scratches on the lens (my fault) or adjusting the frames after a couple of weeks of wearing. They are always willing to help and present you with all the alternatives. I am very happy with the pre-sales and after-sales service I receive. I should mention that I also work with another optometrist where I get my eyes checked and I have been happy with them too. Avoid going at lunch time because they are located in the Pruneyard which makes it VERY, VERY hard to find parking because of all of the restaurants. read more

I am very pleased with Unique Eyewear, where I bought a pair of "back-up" glasses for when I'm not wearing my contacts. Here's why I'm so happy: 1. Great salesperson Eva helped me select frames that look great without breaking my budget. I didn't want to spend top dollar since these glasses are just for at-home wear, after I take out my contacts. 2. Great salesperson Eva fitted me with my "intermediate" correction that is useful for computer, cooking, doing the laundry. I never could get the hang of bifocals or progressives. Now I have a comfortable pair of glasses for at-home living (not distance or reading). 3. Great salesperson Eva really knows the meaning of customer service and salesmanship. I didn't feel rushed or pressured, yet she helped me in a reassuring way as I made a decision about which frames to get. I'm a fussy eyeglasses shopper.
