Your pal Johnny used to like this place, but it has gone significantly downhill. The service is terrible. Your pal waited 25 minutes to replenish his pint and then, to add insult to injury, he was grossly overcharged when the bill arrived. Perhaps the service was deliberately slow, given the smug, insouciant, and charlatan smile of the very rude bartender upon being given the check presenter. Your pal truly has no idea what he might have done to earn her inexplicable umbrage. Your pal does tend to be polite. Perhaps the bartender objected to the cashmere watch cap that my ex-wife gave me and that I still don every so often to remind myself of how I obliterated my personal life? Well, that's between me and the former missus. What do YOU know about it? Did my ex call this bar and warn them about your pal? I really don't know. But your pal felt as welcome here as a Grand Wizard during Black History Month. And let your pal be clear: he loves Black people. He's that rare white dude with more than one Black friend. Talk about failing to read the room or, in this case, your customer. They have attempted to "liven up" the place with a sad lonely DJ on the weekend, the removal of tables in the back, and bad and entirely unsubtle lighting. If you're considering throwing yourself off a bridge, but you haven't quite decided whether to go through with it, well then this is the bar for you! Nobody here seems happy. Solid dive bar. Drinks are priced alright. It's cozy but not claustrophobic. The lights are dim. You can watch TV on non-flat screen. Nothing to really complain about. read more

Fun neighborhood spot. Good tap list, great bartenders, two TVs (one of which is an archaic flat screen CTV), a lot of seating. They have chips and popcorn for sale, but nothing substantial. Cheap drinks, good happy hour deals. What more could you ask for? read more

Chill atmosphere, super friendly bartender. Only issue was price. My friends and I got 6 draft beers (normal beers, nothing fancy), which ended up being almost $70 before tip. Union Street Pub is a homey dive with very reasonable prices (during happy hour) and a fairly extensive draft list. It also just became my new neighborhood bar, my 'Cheers' if you will, as I live a couple blocks away and have visited twice within the last week. It's cozy but charming and the fragrant buttered popcorn that is microwaved throughout the night lends itself to this warm atmosphere. Really want to like this place. The space is nice, great beers on tap, never too crowded or loud--all the makings for a good neighborhood spot. Had a couple nice experiences here with cool bartenders about a year ago, but recently every experience I've had here has been a huge disappointment. Had a bad experience with a super rude bartender a few months back who talked shit about my tattoo when I was in the bathroom. Guess he didn't realize the person he was talking to was my boyfriend. Later that night I took a sip of my beer, only to pull a screw out of my mouth. I let the bartender know, and instead of apologizing, he tried to guess which beer I had been drinking based off which taps were the loosest. (He guesses right.) Super weird. Avoided it for a bit after that, but decided to give it another chance last night. Woof. Started off with beer and everything was great. Bartender was friendly and it was probably the only place to be in Crown Heights on a Saturday night where you could actually have a conversation because it wasn't to loud. After a couple of beers, I switched to liquor and things went downhill from there. The drinks were SUUUUPER weak. I ordered a gin and tonic that tasted nothing of gin or tonic--more of a flat seltzer. After one, I decided to try an experiment to see how many it would take to catch a buzz. Welp, 4 drinks in I decided it just wasn't going to happen. Then I saw it. A black, gelatinous thing the size of a pencil eraser in my ice cube. I pulled it out, let the bar-back know, and he made me another drink. I was pretty turned off by that point, and didn't touch the new drink since whatever had been in my drink had most likely come from a dirty ice machine. We asked to close out, and the bar back said something about having to do something outside, and immediately ran and got the bartender--I guess to do damage control? This was completely unnecessary since we didn't raise a stink about this. I know, its hard to believe that the person writing a novel of a yelp review didn't raise a stink, but I swear we didn't. It was 100% a "hey man, there's something in this drink and also could we close out when you get a chance?" type thing. ANYWAY, bartender comes in to do damage control and ends up doing the exact opposite. Homeboy walks up to us with a shit eating grin and says "heard you found one of my boogers in your drink". (!!!!!!!!!) Yeah, fucker, I did. Quick tip--when you're serving out weak drinks, the sober crowd won't be as receptive to your asshole jokes. Welp, we closed out our way too high tab, tipped 20% because assholes need a living wage too, and were able to do that math easily since we weren't buzzed in the slightest. This place is pretty lame. Crowd isn't fun, the bartenders are corny, the interior is basic pub design, and the selection is very meh. This side of crown heights doesn't have much going on so maybe they are trying the bare minimum, or that they don't know how to make an attractive bar to add spice to the community. Hell, even the weird branch ofc a few blocks away is more fun just by the asshole bartender dealing with some crazies. read more

Great selection of beer on tap. Happy Hour is Mon-Thurs (3:30 - 8 pm), Friday (2:30 - 8 pm), & Sat & Sun (3 - 8 pm) is $2 off beer and well drinks. It's our new favorite local bar. The cocktails are less impressive, but at $8 I'm not too picky. It's a great low-key bar to hang out for an hour or two before heading home from work. read more

Breweries represented include Founders, Sly Fox, Bell's, Six Point, Lagunitas, etc . among the 16 beers they have on tap. Other than this, everything is pretty middle of the road. Typical hip Brooklyn interior, smallish in size, decent cocktails, and a local clientele. They're not doing anything wrong, but if it weren't for a bigger tap selection than the other 6 bars between Lincoln and Eastern Parkway, I'd find it hard to pick this place over any other. read more

The one star is based solely on the fact that they charge an 8.8% surcharge if you pay your tab with a credit card. Considering that credit card companies charge a business 2-3% I don't understand how they can get away with charging customers that high a percentage. If they want cash payments so badly, why not have an ATM in the bar? Oh right, because it's more convenient to gouge the customer and say it's because they used a credit card...people generally spend more money when they are using a credit card. I wouldn't have stayed if it weren't that we didn't see the sign behind the bar until after we had ordered our drinks and been told there wasn't a nearby ATM. I know this is a trend with a lot of businesses nowadays, I'll take my business and my credit card and cash elsewhere where they won't make up surplus charges to skim off more money from the customer. read more

I had a meeting here last night- the music isn't too loud and there's a decent beer selection. Other than popcorn and chips, there aren't many food options but if you're looking for a decent place to have a drink, it's a solid choice. Not remarkable, but alright. read more

So excited to have a bar on the "other side" of Eastern Parkway. My friends and I went 2 nights after it opened (it was a Wednesday) and while it wasn't packed, there was a nice, varied crowd and the bar felt very intimate. Love the new wood smell. My only suggestion -- which is a tiny thing! -- is that it would be great to have coats hooks on the walls by the tables since half of the seating is stools without backs to put your jacket, coat, or bag on. read more
