My best friend and I noticed this place while walking downtown yesterday, so we decided to check it out. They had many guys sitting at the bar, hanging out, eating and drinking. Upon entering, the male bartender employee was very friendly and suggested a few places for us to sit and then suggested that we can sit in their VIP area. (He was joking but it was their last two seats at the bar, closest to where we entered.) We happily sat there. I wish he would've helped us and been our waiter/server/bartender. He took our drink order but then the female bartender came over to take our food order. My friend ordered chicken quesadillas and tea enjoyed them. I ordered the Transit Logs. They are pizza logs wrapped in bacon, smothered in barbecue sauce and then they're grilled for a nice char. (I plagiarized most of that sentence directly from their menu.) The Transit Logs were REALLY good!!! I ate them ALL, which I shouldn't have done. I'm taking off one star because the female bartender was VERY dismissive of a patron, who asked how much longer his takeout order would be, after he'd been waiting awhile. I thought that was really rude. She was talking with a male patron who was sitting within my sight and nearby, while she was dismissive of the other patron. If/when I return to try more of their cool menu and great drinks, I will ask for the male bartender to serve me. This dive bar is a really cool ceiling and a fun vibe. They had a drink and food menu on the chalkboard just to the left of where I was seated. I tried a fun drink off of that menu. I noticed the Transit Logs off of their regular menu. It hurts me to write this even at still a 3 star because I've been meaning to get to Union Pub for a while. I'll say this, my rating is rated off one thing and one thing only but in WNY it's an important one. The roll. They advertise Costanzos rolls, which in my opinion if you're a restaurant in WNY NOT using Costanzos you better be making your own gosh darn own killer roll. This was most definitely not one of their rolls, I won't be fooled. Maybe they were out of them for the week but this subpar roll ruined an otherwise great burger for me. I got the Transit Burger minus the egg plus LTO and it was certainly a huge, meaty burger that tasted great but by the time I got halfway the roll was falling apart, so I gave up and just ate the rest bun less. Fresh cut fries were a plus. I will say it was a nice touch that they wrote thank you on my takeout container. I'll definitely give them another shot, but if you're going to advertise Costanzos rolls, you gotta give me one. No other roll can stand up to the weight of your otherwise awesome burger! read more

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Service was horrendous. The waiter/owner skipped getting my f-i-l's drink order. When he finally came back with everyone's drinks and we told him he skipped my f-i-l, he took his order and then brought the wrong drink. The food took over 40 minutes to come to the table. Even then it was only about 1/2 the orders. Some of us finished eating before others even got their food - that's how long it took. When the rest of the orders came out, they were incomplete (fajitas missing the tortillas, salsa and sour cream) or still not done (he said they ran out of hamburgers and had to make more). We brought our dissatisfaction up to the waiter/owner and he blamed it on the restaurant getting blasted with concert-goers. There were a few concert-goers who came in for a beer and left but not enough to explain why our service was so poor when we made a reservation weeks in advance and they knew we were coming. I was so annoyed with the waiter/owner that I had to get up and leave while he was still making excuses for his terrible service. I will never return to this establishment. I would not be surprised if they go out of business in the very near future due to the awful service and below average food. read more

Had a awful experience with the Union Pub and I wanted to make all aware. Had reservations for 14 people for the Thursday during the March madness tournament in Buffalo. Made the reservations two weeks before and all was supposed to be set. Called them at noon the day of to see if it would be okay for us to be 15-20 minutes late as the game schedule came out and was a little behind. If not we would have showed up at our time. I was told by the person who answered the phone (who also happened to take my reservations two weeks ago that there was a problem and they could not honor the reservation. I asked what the issue was. I was Told he could not get into it. I said that was totally unacceptable and I have 14 people expecting to meet there. Again nothing. He suggested we try the pearl street grill. I asked if he had a connection there to help us out and he said no. I told him a lot of help that that is going to do!! He abruptly said I gotta go I am busy and hung up. So 14 of us left high and dry including friends from Toronto and Indianapolis. Great impression for everyone! I never stepped into the place and have never had the food but will never ever step foot in this place. Want to let everyone know so you also don't get your evening ruined. I would give zero stars but had to give at least one to post. read more

Ordered delivery from Uber Eats and only half my order arrived. Called the restaurant and they were super apologetic (I get it things happen) since they didn't have anyone that could leave (the guy who answered the phone was awesome btw) he said he would comp some drinks if I was able to go and pick it up. Since I couldn't, I just recovered and let them know. Ordered the poutine and honey garlic wings and both were amazing!!! Came to this location to watch the Toronto Blue Jays game as it's across the street of the Sahlen stadium. One of the first MLB games in Buffalo. The waitress was nice and said it would be a few minutes as a table would be leaving soon, no worries. Two ladies walked in (of the opposite race) and they sat them first. Now I don't mind waiting but when you site two people who walk in after we (two people) did that makes you wonder. Not sure how the food is as we left after a few minutes. Went there for lunch. 4 people. Arrived at 1:20pm. We have exactly one hour for lunch. All 4 of us ordered salads. No food by 2:05pm. We ask for our salads to go. 2 ordered caesar salads. Menu says lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onion, croutons. We both received boxes. Had to send it back twice for cheese and croutons. Never got the onions as we both said no tomatoes. The best place for wings in Buffalo - period! It's a travesty and disgrace that the Buffalo Wing Trail did not include Union Pub! (Anti-union sentiments at play? You decide). Really bad experience with service and food is not good. It took more than 1 hour to get our food and the waitress's explanation was unacceptable. How can it take more than an hour to come when other tables came after we do get their food first? When the food finally arrives, it was unfinished, honey garlic wings with no sauce, potato skins half burnt and dry...the meatballs are edible but still not great. Have been coming here for over 10 years (when it was known as the Irish Times). Notwithstanding the nice renovation, the prices have gone up substantially. On our last visit last week, the chicken wings were smaller and portions for fries and onion rings were also smaller. Given that it was a Sabres game night, the place was packed but there was only one waitress. The knife in the back though was the 18% tip which was added to our bill. Notwithstanding that the service was acceptable, I would have preferred having the option of how much tip I wanted to leave. read more

This pub is exactly what Kevin says - mediocre food with really bad service. The bartender (one of the owners?) is a very chippy fellow - fun to talk to, upbeat, funny, etc. But that's where it ends. We arrived before the pre-concert, young people (who came in very loud and shrieking like animals), but their obnoxious behavior was not the establishment's fault. The rest of it was though - a simple sandwich order took forever. Finally my wife - who almost never complains about anything - complained. Our food came out, and the order was wrong. Back into the kitchen it went for another few minutes. When it finally came out for good and we finally got to eat it was bad, and I mean bad. How do you screw up a friggin sandwich?! They managed it. Two guys near us ordered before us and still had not been served after we had finished eating what we could! Unbelievable. I heard them complain at least twice, wondering what had happened to their order. Like all of you, when I go out I want it to be an enjoyable experience. Instead, I was livid.
