We had another great experience at this restaurant. Food is so so good and fresh. The garlic knots they give you in the beginning are so fresh and so good. Service is good Ambience is cozy Will definitely come back every yr we come Solid Italian grub- soooo good!

What a great find in this area! The restaurant is really small though so don't be surprised if you have to wait if it's super busy. We came on a Saturday night and thankfully we got the last two seater. There were quite a few flies flying around which was annoying. The place is very cozy, and we came when there was a live piano player too. We ordered the Caesar salad the whole, and my it may have been too big. They literally serve you the whole head of romaine lettuce, which is a lot of salad when you actually cut it up. The flavor was really good though. I ordered the clams with fettuccine cooked in a bianco white wine sauce and it was delicious. I was disappointed that the clams were so tiny though. They had no meat in them. But the flavor of the white wine sauce was delicious. My husband ordered the fruti de mare with their daily fresh pasta which you could definitely taste the pasta's freshness. He thoroughly enjoyed it too. Overall, great find. Would highly recommend.

Amazing food!!!! I can see why there is a wait to get in usually. The complementary garlic bread was to die for! I went here for my friends bachelorette dinner and we were all so happy with our selections! I had the lobster Mac and cheese and was not disappointed. Great ambiance as well.

Update: I'm glad I gave them another try! I had the special Mac n cheese (with shrimp and spinach) tonight and it was absolutely delicious! The bruschetta is SO TASTY and of course, the garlic bread is to die for with roasted garlic cloves in the basket. Everyone enjoyed their meals and many had leftovers to take home. I also enjoyed a local beer on tap. Bonus: we ordered a piece of cake for a birthday in our party--the only choice was lemon coconut and it was some of the best cake I've ever had! Light and tart and delicious. Warning, parties of 8+ need to call for reservations. We did not know that and ended up waiting almost 2 hours. (Please update your website to reflect your current reservation policies, thanks!)

What a fantastic little Italian restaurant?! Before we came here we had a very unpleasant dinner on the water. The food here was "fantastic" and the service was excellent. THE Portion sizes are "perfect".... ***garlic bread here with a showstopper!!! my wife and I would literally come back here just for the garlic bread.

Loved this little gem, not a lot of dinner places in town. A very cool setting. Went 2 days in a row, out of towner. Would have given 5 stars for service however, chicken was cool, while the pasta was hot. (Didn't have the heart to comp pesto chicken and pasta which was amazing.

The staff and ambience of the union block was so amazing! We had such quick service with great drinks and even better food! The garlic bread was to die for and the chicken riggies were the best EVER! Wouldn't recommend if you don't like spice though (I do so it was perfect). Can't wait to go back when in town again!

An aside: don't listen to your douchy Manhattan cousin who says the Finger Lakes "aren't quite a destination" - these lakes are legit. Anyways, it's lovely up here. Now my new lady also takes care of her oldest's six year-old during the summer so he's up here too and is a wily cat, mad obsessed with that Italian Brain Rot bag right now, and...well, let me just tell you... So we're just walking in downtown Penn Yan apropos of nothing, and there's this joint with a leprechaun on the wall called Silverbird. We all walk in not expecting anything, and holy heck this place looked like a 1970s time warp inside. But the staff was nice and the grub was decent, and what really made this a hit was the totally random vintage arcade inside. For just a few quarters you can play skeeball, bowling, and baseball pin ball until your heart's content. And hand to god, the kid didn't make one single reference to Italian Brain Rot the entire time we were there. Thank you, Silverbird. From the bottom of my bitter yet vintage arcade loving heart.

The free bread was warm and delicious. The brown butter Manhattan was on point. An amuse bouche arrived. We shared the "Eggs on Eggs" starter - deviled eggs topped with caviar and blinis. For $31, we received two eggs, each halved and topped with a blini and a small amount of indistinguishable caviar, with a bit of shredded lettuce. While tasty, neither the ingredients nor presentation justified the price tag. With the mains, I had a glass of Hector wine essence. That was also good. But the egg topped pork chop was chewy and also pricy at $39. The menu promised a hash, but it sat on top of fries. If memory serves, La Portena's crab dish, a special, was announced as a saute, but turned out to be crab cakes. These commanded a $43 price tag. This was a nice enough dish, but expensive for what it was. If you are sensing a theme here, I think the prices here are about 20% higher than they should be. Perhaps we came on an off night. Later that week, we ate at the Burnt Rose, under the same management, and had a better experience.

All About Christy!…read more My wife and I had traveled from Irondequoit to catch a band playing at Point of the Bluff. When we arrived, we found out there was a $10 cash fee for parking. Not having any cash on us, we set out to find an ATM--but being unfamiliar with the area and misled by some bad info online, our search kept coming up empty. One source suggested there was an ATM at a nearby restaurant, so we stopped in--only to find that wasn't true either. I asked a young server if they had an ATM on-site; she wasn't sure but immediately turned to ask Christy. Christy instantly picked up on why I was looking for cash and asked, "Are you headed to a show?" When I nodded, she didn't hesitate--she pulled out her own purse, handed me a $10 bill, and simply said, "Just pay it forward." Her kindness and generosity truly floored me. I've already shared this story with so many people. Christy is the kind of person you don't forget. Later that evening, our dinner server received a 40% tip--in Christy's honor and with her spirit of giving in mind.
